That top "Where Is The Thing" graphic is my resume or badge or parking instructions or whatever it is I need when I'm on my way out the door to a job interview or some sort of exam. I always put it in some very speshul place so I won't forget it and then.... basically, I've obsessed on it so much that I think I've done whatever I need to do and I leave the house without it.
It's also my passport, soc sec card, receipt that I need to get something repaired, couple other things.

Great question, states control their own voter rolls and state/local elections, but it's more unclear when Federal elections are at stake.
I would think the abject failure of one state to secure valid voter rolls could cause their Federal results to be rejected in the national count.

Not necessarily malign intent. They way it used to work, the ballots are tallied up on election day. Historically people you know, voting in person. If the total number of outstanding ballots are not enough to change the outcome, then they don't bother to count them. Makes sense from a time, labor, and $$ standpoint.
Where things go sideways is allowing "early" voting. People are already voting? Then deciding well ... let's keep the polls open a little later on election night ... And then let's keep voting for another week or so ... and the hell with postmarks... and forget that signature verification stuff. And oh lookie here !! We just found a tractor trailer FULL of ballots - all for Joey Biden. "We Must Count All The Votes To Protect Our Democracy" etc.
For my part, I think voting fraud should be a Capital offense. Sick of it. We're still in the "That's Crazy Talk, It Never Happens But If It Did We Deserve It" stage of outright denial.

When it comes to mail in ballots why isn't there something like we have with all mail purchased through the internet, tracking labels. I get that maybe people don't want a Did/Didn't vote tracker with the name (though you still sign a book for in person voting which does the same thing) But for every mail in/ absentee ballot there should be a barcode/number you can keep, and at each stage of the process you ballot should be scanned, so you can then check if its been accepted, sorted, counted and everything else that goes on with a ballot.

I used to hear them say things like "They should legalize Weed and then Tax The Shit Out Of It!" As if this was a great idea or something. I would play dumb, and say "How about they legalize it, and just leave people the fvck alone. Is that an option, or is it an either/or kinda thing? We don't tax people growing Azalea, what makes a weed (and that's what it is) so special?
And they look at you like you're from Mars. Leaving people alone, isn't part of their worldview. And it goes downhill from there.
Legalizing weed, and setting confiscatory tax rates, means that people still prefer to buy untaxed weed. I know they are making money hand over fist, but it has caused a lot of problems. Another name for the "black market" really ought to be the "free market".
Remember Eric Gardner? He was just making money, because NYC taxes the shit out of tobacco. Selling "loosies" is doable, because of confiscatory tax rates. The governor wasn't getting his cut, so they had to arrest him. I'm not really a "Libertarian", but the whole tax serf thing is just insane.
The government used to get all the revenue it needed from Tariffs. Income Tax was Unconstitutional. And funny money was too. It wasn't perfect, but so long as the crooks have a printing press, it won't matter what laws we pass, or repeal, or anything else. They just pay the right people off.
Without an unlimited supply of federal confetti bucks, I suspect a lot of really bizarre things wouldn't be affordable. Choose yer own adventure bathrooms and all the social ills and professional agitators and millionaire "newsreaders", a somewhat limited money supply means choices have to be made. That is exactly what happened here in So Cal. "State legal" weed is ridiculously expensive. Only tourists, and those who were too scared to try it before legalization buy the stuff. Now we have gray market 'speakeasy' shops all over the place, if you know how to find them. Prices there are actually better than they were at the old medical marijuana shops. I'm not tooting my horn here. Well I am a little.
Suffice it to say, Trump debates on roughly three levels. The top one is what almost everyone watches. That's where the other candidate can "tie" or "beat" Trump, and the media can pretend it's a win.
He's actually pretty strong on that level. He's also great on the middle level - but he absolutely cannot be touched on what I call the bottom one.
The bottom level - the unconscious one - the under the radar one - is where Trump competes and wins the debate in a bloodbath.
That level of communication is meticulously planned and executed. The rest of the debate can go any direction but that is the gameplan and he sticks to it with such calm measure it's almost not believable. Although unseen, the unconscious level overshadows everything else, and is geared toward leaners on both sides, and the true undecided voters - who are the ONLY people that matter.
I won't go into detail but basically when Trump gets done, he makes it *impossible* for certain people (a lot of people) to pick Biden. Watch.

There was a drama group at NYU that wanted to "prove" that Hillary's gender hurt her in the presidential debates. So they did a special performance that was essentially certain segments of the presidential debates, but gender-flipped. Trump's lines were given by a woman who attempted to mimic his performance, and Hillary's lines were given by a man who attempted to mimic her performance. And these were actual exchanges from the 2016 presidential debates, with the two actors moving on the stage just as the real candidates did.
Needless to say, the NYU drama students learned to their chagrin that if anything, Hillary had been helped by her gender. With the genders flipped, and the sympathy that they'd held toward the real Hillary removed, it became clear just how effective Trump was, and how utterly horrible Hillary was in the debates.

It's a damn fine idea for anyone holding public office or government employment. When I was in the .mil I had to piss buckets worth and get tested constantly. Because operating millions of dollars worth of machinery is dangerous stuff.
Why are the people operating the machinery of government allowed a pass? The insanity and delusions of people in government - prescription drugs would answer for a lot of it, I really believe this. These are people taking powerful "antianxiety" and "mood enhancement" drugs.
Hell, for that matter - nobody should be able to vote unless they get 60 days clean. Think about how many MFers brains are scrambled right now. What percentage of Americans are taking prescription feel good stuff right now?

It's been my experience that you had to add anyone else that would be driving the car onto the the rental agreement at the time of the rental. But, I haven't rented a car for years. There was also the driving it west or east of the Mississippi River depending where you were. In Texas I couldn't drive it to Mexico.

They've been pushing a lot of stuff everyone hates. I think a lot of it is they have been trapped by Trump on all sides of normal political debate. You can't pick a side against Trump on the economy, jobs or war. You can kind of do it against some aspects of his foreign policy but it would look silly considering the results.
So all they have is their usual insults and a bunch of attention grabbing horseshit. I think it's the red's way of looking "strong". Like, for example, if you're the dude in the debate advocating for straight up murder, you look pretty strong. They are so power mad I think that's what it must be. We'll do this because we CAN and fuck you. It's a way of playing the strong horse.
Commies are never about what's good, popular or right. It's all platitudes and pain.

Heh. My first visit to Nicaragua, we went to Playa Gigantes surfing beach, and stayed a night at a "surf hotel" run by some dudes from California. I helped fix somebody's outboard motor, and one of the hotel guys told me I should move there and set up a mechanical shop, and make bank. It was 20 miles of bad road to the nearest Taller mecanico.

It'd take a mess of track-laying to get a rail connection built. B.C. Rail stops at Ft. Nelson. I don't know if CN goes any further north. They could probably build fairly quickly by following the Alcan Highway right-of-way, except in hilly stretches, where the grades would be too steep for rail.

I'll never forget driving up the grade toward Tehachapi, looked over, and a string of tanker cars had been pulled off the tracks. Startling to see them up there working on getting things straightened out. The wrecker train looked pretty impressive.
That particular grade has a lot of twists and turns in it, and requires helper engines on the back of the train. I sort of assumed the engine in the back wasn't keeping things quite tight enough, and, oops!

I took the entire wood-framed sealed unit, that was broken by hail, out, and had a new one made to the exterior dimension of the old wooden frame. Plan is to first, trial-fit it, and if that is good, run a bead of caulk for it to bed upon, fit it in there, and fasten in wood strip stops to retain it, laid in with caulk.
So, a busy day planned for tomorrow.

Pour dressing onto slaw. stir it up. Put it in the fridge for a hour or 24.
If you cannot find tarragon vinegar, make some. There are recipes on the Internet.

I thought it was a bit weird at first but learned to love it. They are a great combination imo. But we all go our own way.
Back when I only cared about Texas BBQ, to me it meant Brisket on butcher paper, a pickle, and a slice of cheese. You got your coke from the machine and it was the old school glass bottles. And that place was considered one of the best in the state.

if you go there, try the fried chicken too. It took me forever to order it but I was wrong.
I also used to spend quite a bit of time in North Myrtle. I loved the Sands Ocean Club. Not sure if they are still around.

I am one of the few Southerners that prefers unsweet. If you go to Parkers, they have only sweet and sweeter.
Someone once did a research project on Southern Sweet Tea. They drink the most of it in dry counties or areas where imbibing is frowned upon by many. One way or the other, people are going to get their sugar. Booze is denatured sugar but it still has an effect.

I can pound the unsweet stuff. I recall when they let us have a coke in basic training about six or seven weeks in. The stuff tasted so sickly sweet. It is interesting how you adjust to things.

she likely knew what she was doing. It is pretty standard to put at least a bit of sugar and salt in a dish to make it taste better and enhance the other flavors. I believe I have seen sugar as an ingredient for cole slaw.

Machines in those areas win because the locals don't vote. That is how AOC won in the primary - the lazy high level Dem wasn't even paying attention. If the populace really comes out it might be hard to rig it because they never have to in that district.

The Roman leader Cincinnatus was named dictator for the year in a crisis - absolute power, life and death over every man, his word was law. He was notified by a delegation plowing his field. He went with them to Rome, defeated the enemy in a short time and gave up the dictatorship and went home.
The Romans remembered that, and Washington and the veterans of the Revolution made the "Society of the Cincinnati" to remember how they put down their military power after saving their country too. The city of Cincinnati was named for that organization.
