I see it as exactly the opposite. While the Left may have been willing to walk away from Slow Joe and not turn out to the polls, they saw Saint RBG as a mainstay on the SCOTUS. The idea of letting Trump fill the space uncontested will motivate a lot of Dems to show up at the polls.
Posted by: Mr. Obvious at September 18, 2020 07:41 PM (k+h+d) I'm highly skeptical that the kind of Democrat who knows and cares about RBG is not also the kind that votes in every election like clockwork. ACLU lawyer. Confirmed 97-0 in the Senate or some BS like that.
Interestingly enough, there is no requirement that a Supreme Court justice be an attorney, or even pass the bar. Now the usual suspects would screech like wounded eagles for even suggesting that a non-attorney be appointed on the court. Only Really Smart People can be depended on to interpret the plain meaning of the Constitution, you see. Related, is it required that the FBI Director be some super educated guy (or Butch Reno?) How about a cop? A well respected LEO who worked up through the ranks, who has actual you know, experience? The Senate. The word itself derives from Senile when you get right down to it. Or corrupt blow dried ass hats, with some notable exceptions. Not enough to "make a difference", to turn a phrase. 708 In reality, it changes nothing.
You knew Ginsburg was getting replaced next term if you were an informed voter. This simply amplifies the issue to the uninformed voter. Advantage Democrats. Posted by: Bitter Clinger at September 18, 2020 08:12 PM (XmYq7) The operative word is "informed voter" which does not describe the typical voter. Ruthy, while known to be ill, has not been in the center ring of attention to the LIV. The media and the Dems can use her death to whip up a frenzy the likes of which, even 2020 to date can't match. Hope I'm wrong. Trusting that The Donald has wargamed her death and the strategery required to thread the needle before the election. Posted by: browndog at September 18, 2020 08:23 PM (BgMrQ) 909

What ever reluctance, or lack of enthusiasm their party regulars may have had about "really" voting in this year's election are out the window.
Posted by: browndog I am not saying that this won't up the enthusiasm, but this is overselling it. MOST moderates do not get enthused overthe SC. Most of the non-voting dem base (young and minorities) do not get enthused over the SC. This enthuses the reliable voters that were going to vote anyway. If anything, the SC has been pretty low key of late and the Left overdid the drama with Kavanaugh. I think the Left will try to make hay out of this, saying that Trump is going to outlaw abortion and enslave women, etc. but I don't think it is going to work on the moderates. Not this time. 275 She gambled and lost,
Posted by: Patrick From Ohio at September 18, 2020 07:50 Indeed, arrogant bitch wanted to be the first to inaugurate Hill as the first female pres. So she didn't retire under Obama, as you said...she lost. That twit Shannon Bream said RBG was most devoted to her family. What utter BS, she held on to power until she died instead of retiring and spending more time w/ family. Posted by: Farmer at September 18, 2020 08:45 PM (LthQw) 1007

Cruz, he did mention.
Said he would get 100 votes from the Senate. Said the Democrats would vote for him to get him out of the senate. Posted by: Braenyard at September 18, 2020 08:23 Well if he nominates anyone else Murky, Susan and Mitt might defect. That would leave it at 50-50. Pence gets the deciding vote. If he nominated Cruz how would the Dems that voted to get him out of the Senate explain it to their voters...I wanted to get the SOB out of my face so I placed him on the SC? Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) announces she will NOT vote to replace RBG on SCOTUS until after Election Day. GOOD RIDDANCE TO BAD GARBAGE.
Hope you enjoy your eternity in the abyss of hell you horrible rotten no good daughter of Satans spawn. As always there is also a negative side. Oft said it is thou shalt not speak ill of the dead. Here I amend that guideline and offer I will speak ill of her dead as she vomited forth her perverse ideology created in hell transported via dark lightning and ejected incautiously into the always bright Universe exposing her dark darker darkest soul born in the ninth circle of Dantes Hell. No No NOOO Fuck the bullshit. Writhe in torment for eternity in the flames of hatred you have created, employed and projected on the truth. Unofficial BUT TOTALLY TRUE cause of death Satan called in the contract on her soul for her life due to default on the terms and payment agreements. QUOTES: I am evil personified. I have always BEEN evil. I will kill your children in their beds on Christmas Eve And laugh as they Bleed out in agony to my Provence of Death. Pfft. I'd be willing to bet she didn't make any death-bed pleadings.
My experience of these types of cancers is that in the last week or so of her life the drugs she was on would make her experience serious memory loss such that she wouldn't even remember certain family members let alone her job. The days before passing they tend to go into a deep sleep. How disgusting is it that the Left are using a persons death to try and get what they want? DING DONG THE WITCH IS DEAD! Isn't anybody going to bitch about Fox gushing over RBG, with that whole "We have to show we're better than they are", "Don't speak ill of the dead", "She was really a great person", "Oh she as so SMART, and HISTORIC" crap. * She showed ZERO class toward the President. * She was not a friend of mine, and I couldn't care less if she was friends with Scalia, or was Jewish, or loved her dog. It's completely irrelevant. * Her job was to uphold the Constitution, but she was an activist judge instead. It's HER fault, in part that we were inflicted with ObamaCare, and a bunch of other foul stuff. She was an evil witch, and this is a great day for America. Let me adopt the contrarian position:
Best for Trump not to replace her, or try to replace her, but add the issue of the Supreme Court to the front and center issues of the campaign, including (shudder) the certainty that if the Dems capture the Presidency as well as Legislatures they will pass a "court packing" law to bring up the number of SCOTUS judges. Most don't realize that the Court composition of 9 rests on a mere federal statute (not the Constitution) and our "shared understanding" that we shouldn't start messing with the Court's number, that was operative during Andrew Johnson, strained during FDR, and gone today. Keeping the appointment in hang fire mode is a great way to highlight a truly existential threat to the Republic. One justice not at stake, its the Republic in play. Posted by: xnycpeasant at September 19, 2020 10:43 AM (lcQJG) 1044
Murkowski and Romney are determined to hand the Senate to the Democrats. By announcing their opposition in advance, they put Susan Collins, who is in a tough but winnable race, in a terrible bind. We only need 50 but who will crap out after these three?
Posted by: Nikola's Notion at September 19, 2020 10:44 AM (c0RaZ) 1045
Yes, Trump is definitely helping down ballot races... but unfortunately the reverse is not true, a not insignificant number of traditional republican voters are not supporting Trump.
Posted by: Serious Cat at September 18, 2020 08:25 PM (700n7) Oh nonsense, Trump has the support of over 90 percent of the Republican voter base. Posted by: Oldcat at September 19, 2020 02:45 PM (eoQWY) 1046
She was able to make plenty of her fervent wishes come true with her decisions on the Court, the Constitution and the law be damned. I'm not inclined to give her one more to extend her influence over the Court long beyond her death. It's about time for The People to get theirs for a change.
