Census Data: US Household Income Hit All-Time High in 2019

And it would have hit a new record in 2020, if not for the Chinese Virus.

Karen Townsend at HotAir:

Median household income reached an all-time high, coming in at $68,700 in 2019. That is a 6.8% increase, from $64,324 in 2018, the largest one-year increase on record. The poverty rate fell to the lowest in recorded history, at 10.5%, a decline of 1.3%. The poverty level fell for the fifth consecutive year.

The specifics that Trump often refers to - the categories of specific demographics tell the tale, too. Real median incomes grew for black Americans (7.9%), Hispanic Americans (7.1%), and Asian Americans (10.6%). Remember when then-candidate Trump asked minority voters, "What the hell do you have to lose?" Any minority voter that took that challenge to heart has been vindicated, certainly economically speaking. Income levels for minorities reached record levels.

There were 2.2 million more people working at some point in 2019 compared with 2018 and 1.2 million more people working full-time year-round. Women workers drove the increase in full-time year-round workers.

More at the link.

Unexpectedly, first-time jobless claims fell again, a signal of a growing economy.

Furthermore, continuing jobless claims also fell by 900,000, as more people went back to work.

Even as the media continues poor-mouthing the recovery.

First-time claims for unemployment insurance totaled 860,000 last week.

That was down from the 893,000 a week earlier and better than Dow Jones estimates of 875,000.

Continuing claims fell by more than 900,000 to 12.63 million.

If Trump's economy was his greatest strength, then the virus gave the Democrats a perfect excuse to attack the economy directly, but in the guise of public health.

That is the biggest deal of all. Anyone who utters "why would you vote for anyone who's not a Democrat? You're poor!" should be (metaphorically) slapped in the face.

It's beyond the initial reaction to the virus and the initial shut downs.

The virus was an accident for Democrats, and they used every tool they had to the max to make the story as big as possible, heightening the danger as much as possible.

Trump's not 100% clean in this, but there's a difference between advocating for two weeks to shut down to avoid a hospital crush, insisting on continued lockdowns six months later, and Trump's overall message since before Easter that we need to open up.

"Interesting you should send such a faulty and flawed picture of Trump who has done nothing to help the country in any intelligent person's estimation. His tax cuts are for the rich, and his plans to cut taxes further will be at the expense of social security. He follows every evil precedent well: rapes the environment, increases unemployment, puts money in his own pocket from the government from buying and selling covid merchandise."

I asked him to send specific examples of Trump's raping the environment and putting money in his own pocket.

"A little aside on Hillary Clinton: In college she was forced to debate issues of Democrats vs Republicans. At the time she was a staunch Republican and didn't want to take the blue side. Her opposition was the other way around, a Democrat who disagreed with Republican thinking. After the debate, having researched the real issues and not just hype and name calling, Hillary became a dyed in the wool Democrat."

My reply: "She became a Democrat because she saw that party offered a quicker path to power over others."

She rewrote Michigan law to say that as long as a ballot is postmarked by November 2 the state has to count it up until certification 14 days later. Her reason is because 6400 ballots in the primary in August were late and not counted. What is more outrageous is she also rewrote the law to allow anyone to assist the voter with filling out and mailing their ballot. The requirement that the person live in your household or be in the clerks office is too burdensome. I hope this gets overturned.

Posted by: TheJamesMadison, shouting Lawrence! into the desert at September 18, 2020 12:24 PM (UWqZJ)

Yes- Easter!!! Five months ago! Since then, -Trump has been saying OPEN, OPEN, OPEN!!!

The initial shutdown was bad BUT was supposed to be time limited just to allow enough ventilators to be manufactured (remember that?) and make sure the hospitals weren't overwhelmed. These were measurable events and they once they occurred, Trump said open.

Which is part of why it ought to recover more quickly than normal. In a conventional recession there has been a massive misallocation of resources to building something(like housing) more than we need. That misallocation isn't really recoverable. This shock exists by fiat and our use of various goods and services ought to be rather similar afterwards. Most of the costs should be bankruptcy losses, not permanent losses of capital.

213 I think everyone who is registered to vote actually intends to vote. I mean, why register if you are not going to vote? So, any registered voter who does not have a ballot cast by election day should be assumed to be a disenfranchised voter, and those votes should be assigned by the Speaker of the House.

214 196 The judge in Michigan is a circuit court judge.

Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius at September 18, 2020 12:33 PM (Ejm1K)

The rich only deserve one thing: to be killed.

The best thing that can happen to this country is if every single American who as much as makes a SINGLE PENNY above per capita income is killed. The government MUST DECLARE WAR on those vermin. Kill them all, and the government will seize everything they have, and redistribute it evenly among those who remain.

Any of those vermin wishing to leave the country must surrender everything they have, including the clothes on their back. And they will be beaten by CBP and police brutally for hours on end so they can see what it feels like.

Envy, hatred and resentment are great American virtues.

269 Someguy is correct, this is probably a uniquely "exogenous" economic shock (external factor that just appears from nowhere and affects everything, not part of any fundamental problem or economic imbalance) - probably more so than even the "oil shock" of '73.

Thus the likelihood of a "v-shaped recovery," which Trump and many of us have expected. Take the weight off the spring, it decompresses (grows) again.

And I'm not your guy for statistical stuff, not beyond the obvious or top-line logic, anyway, but appreciate the positive vibes from a few commenters. For that one has to enter into the skeery and addictive twatters world, where such analysts abound (and have been wiping the floor with much of the world's public health establishment, and prominent/idiotic C19 boosters, for months).

But it is troubling how many of the false premises and make-believe "facts" have - as they have for decades, partly accounting for where we are in many ways - seeped into acceptance even by people otherwise "skeptical" or generally more sensible about what it all means.

So Joe, one of your workers wearing a mask and staying six feet away back from a resident he/she is talking with is still a hazardous situation for one or both? If so, tell me how you'd have everyone back at work by now. absent a vaccine.

time limited just to allow enough ventilators to be manufactured
(remember that?) and make sure the hospitals weren't overwhelmed. These

right ... when the virus was being spread initially, (subways running, Fauci said don't wear masks) .. then Trump was "ahead of the curve", in front of the story. He was being "proactive" (in the face of a response that appears to be purely a Dem PsyOp ... trying to get Trump to shut the nation down by EO)

Then after peak, Trump has moved toward opening ... while Dems want shutdown forever ... Biden is the "I'll Shut It Down" guy.

I have misgivings about how Trump chose Fauci/Birx (Gates) globalists to run the show. I can only imagine he somehow saw the PsyOp and the damage and shifted blame toward these "experts" and allowed governors to lead the way in shut downs. Trump was and still is up against the massive Media PsyOp, backed by many major institutions (WHO, CDC to some degree, various experts).

Even recognizing it was from China, spread deliberately, became contested by the lying left. A good thing now, is nations across the globe are blaming China, we are establishing better allies, better supply chains. No idea if that was four dimension chess by Team Trump, but it has been a useful outcome.

I understand that gay kids probably feel like the rest of the world hates them, and the left feeds that insecurity because it helps them get power. To an extent, the gay kids are right, in that historically they are an object of scorn and ridicule, especially from their peers. But that's changed dramatically. They'll always be the object of some fun, but there's also the segment of the population that wants to treat them like they're something really special. That warps people.
How's about we all just admit that the teenage years can suck, treat each other nicely, and get on with our lives.

345 illiniwek: "No idea if that was four dimension chess by Team Trump, but it has been a useful outcome."

I think that may be one of Trump's strongest traits. He's an outside-the-box thinker and open to any solution that will address a problem. All businessmen want to solve problems. It's their nature. But how to get there is not an easy skillset. Most fail. But Trump assesses, moves, reevaluates, and alters tactics again until resolution. He is fearless.

So, even if a plan goes sideways, he adjusts midstream as needed to get on track again with the endgame always in sight. Most people cannot do this innately. If things falter along the way, he's quick with course-correction. That makes plans look four dimensional when it's really "just" reacting quickly to new problems.

How many would be dead if Cuomo was the governor of all 50 states? I'd like to see that statistic.

"... but it was the EUROPEAN virus!" whined that ambulatory turd, time after time.

So, Doctor C, what difference might that have made in dealing with the problem?

How does it feel to be stuck at age five in your moral development?

352 People are still getting sick from Wuflu because we do not have anyone insisting people take vitamin D. They got their double blind study. It works. And if you take vitamin D and do get sick, you won't need hospitalization. Like every treatment that could help with this, it's being suppressed.

353 There are 246 (including NH 4) EV in reddish states. PDT won 242 of those EV votes in 2016. But, NC, WI and MI were also red states (gov and SOS) in 2016; not this year.
Only State he won that didn't have an R SOS was PA, iirc. Different playing field to 270 this year.

354 Here's the thing:

By any metric we would use to judge a President's term, Donald Trump has had a successful four years.

Domestically, he's helped every demographic.

In foreign affairs, he's kept us out of military conflicts and brokered peace deals left and right.

The only issues raised against him were there when he won the last time, namely "but he's mean, he's braggadocios, he's crass, etc."

Those were the ONLY things people knew about him four years ago. He ran with NO political accomplishments. He ran with only promises.

Promises told by a blustering man with no record are often dismissed. And yet, Trump won. It was a squeaker with a lot of states almost going blue, but still he won.

And now, four years later he is the same man that won last time, now running WITH a laundry list of accomplishments and running AGAINST an even weaker candidate than Hillary.

In addition, every time a specific demographic is polled, Trump's numbers are better than four years ago. Every time a specific issue is polled, Trump's stance is favored over Biden's.

And yet, somehow, those same polls (that show Trump popular with the majority of the groups that make up the electorate, and show his ideas popular with the people) have Trump losing by 5-10 points to Biden.

5-10 points?!

It's insane how bad the reporting on polling is in this country.

I tell ya, I'm not convinced that a single Dem would have forced Covid patients into nursing homes had a Dem been president. That's more tin-hatty than I normally allow myself to be--and I'd never argue that it *is* the case. But it's a suspicion.

I think I know how this goes. I buy the glasses from you, and then for the rest of my natural life you're reminding me that it would be bad if people was to find out and I'm paying a "nominal" fee for you to help see that info never gets released to the public.

Really, because I was alerted yesterday that a bunch of nutters on reddit were arguing that Trump saying that the numbers are not so bad if you don't count the blue states means "blue state lives don't matter".

And before you say it's an illegitimate concern, if the only thing that matters were legitimate concerns, I don't know how the Democratic party would have a base.
