The simplest way to explain the behavior of any bureaucratic organization is to assume that it is controlled by a cabal of its enemies.Covid and Wokeness are two viruses that seem to be an accelerant in the strange desire of powerful entities to destroy themselves. It’s fascinating right now to watch universities, left-wing cities, Hollywood, public schools, sports leagues, newspapers, and other institutions commit suicide. If a manager or employee acts in the best interest of those entities, it might get him fired, but taking actions that alienate customers and produce lost revenue are career enhancing. Good riddance.
When the ancestors of North America’s Indigenous peoples entered the New World some 16,000 years ago via Siberia, they hunted many of the mammals, reptiles, and birds, from the Arctic down to Tierra del Fuego. Mammoths, mastodons, and enormous ground-dwelling sloths, as well as giant bears, giant tortoises, and enormous teratorn birds with 16-foot wingspans—animals that had never had a chance to evolve in the presence of humans—were among the many species that disappeared from the Americas.
Throughout history, however, humans killed animals that were tasty, numerous, and huntable. For kin-groups, staying alive meant making life-and-death cost-benefit calculations about where to send your berry-pickers and hunters. “Sacredness” had nothing to do with it.
Such depictions of the benign and gentle ways of Indigenous peoples are perhaps well-intentioned, an antidote to the racist depictions of so-called “savages” that have been common currency in the West for generations. But they have been cynically leveraged by activists and politicians acting on their own principles and parochial concerns. In many cases, the above-described mythology has become a subset of a larger anti-capitalist discourse that presents Indigenous lands as a secular Eden, and greed as a form of original sin.

Thanks for the reminder. I've voted absentee the last couple of times. I have to contact the city clerk next week and make whatever changes I need to to be able to vote at the polling place.
By the way, in '16, the year of the big election surprise, the polling place I went to on election day was PACKED. I've never seen that many people out to vote.

There's an interesting theory, with *some* evidence (but not proved) that a major meteor/asteroid/comet fragment impacted the Laurentide Ice Sheet somewhere near Hudson Bay about 13,000 years ago, bringing about the Younger Dryas epoch and causing the extinction of the north american megafauna, as well as most of the humans were were already here at the time.
If this is true, then it wasn't hunting from the paleo-indians at all. Some anecdotal evidence; despite constant heavy hunting, the elephants in India and Africa never went extinct. Why in North America and Siberia simultaneously, and why so quickly? The tribes may have been new to North America, but not to Siberia. And most of the megafauna (wooly rhino's, ice age bison which were twice the size of today's bison, giant cave bears, dire wolves) went extinct in both places at the same time.

Back in the late eighties, early nineties I hung around with a number of people who worked for state and county agencies. They were frustrated with their jobs because of the type of people who were in supervisory, management positions. Bosses in government agencies are NEVER fired, no matter how useless they are.
The best that the actual workers can hope for is that the idiot boss will be promoted upward and they won't be stuck with him/her anymore. I'm not joking.
If you ever have to do anything through "friend of the court", community mental health, and you aren't getting anywhere, that's why.

Actually...my Dad grew up in rural W. PA. Sometime in the late 60s/early 70s, a strip mine was opened next field over and well, it strips the land. So all around that property, they stripped the land. Well, when the mining company was finished, they left. They were not suppose to do that before cleaning up. They tried to weasel out of any environmental costs. So, off to court they go. And it went on and on and on...it may be still going on. Meanwhile the ugly stripped land just sat there. As the years went on (30+), the woods started to come back. Now you go there, and it looks like nothing ever happened there. The woods came back. God's design works.

Can confirm. I've lived in rural WPA my entire life. When I was a kid, there were a lot of woods, but also a lot of strip cuts (which came in handy for shooting, parking, and various and sundry tomfoolery). In the last 20 years, they've virtually disappeared. The only one that is still visible or even detectable is the one the state came and tried to "fix." It's a mess, and has caused a lot of runoff into the local streams that wasn't happening before the "experts" showed up to stick their noses in it.

I learned to appreciate classical music from watching Bugs Bunny cartoons.
Listening to classical later on, I would recognize many
tunes but couldn't name the composer, just that I remembered it from a Bugs Bunny cartoon.
Kids today have no appreciation for Bugs Bunny and its cultural influences on a generation or three. The humor, the sarcasm, the musical scoring, the artwork, all of it. What a bunch of maroons.

I read at another site, a story of a person who got himself in trouble eating out in Italy.
Seems this American tourist likes cheese on his pasta. He ordered a pasta dish in Rome. When it came out, he asked the waiter if he could please have some cheese.

Remember how a few years ago, there was a run on TV shows that gushed over the idea of all the people being "eliminated" somehow, and Gaia retaking the cities in just a few years?

2 weeks from today my husband and I are leaving the home we have lived in for 40 years. We do not want to, but we know we must. It's too big for us now, our ability to maintain it is waning, and the only thing that keeps our hearts from breaking is that we are trading homes with our son.
So at least I will still get to visit my home. So grateful it is staying in the family and that my daughter in law likes it and that my grandson is gonna have his Daddy's old bedroom.

Of course that should be the result. But I doubt we will have more than further erosion in their influence - but that will remain yuuuge, and malevolent. Why? Because the populace they prey upon, or far too large a segment thereof, doesn't know any better. Or are too attached to their hatreds and bigotries, their tribalism.
Lots of ground covered, lots of generalizations, but I don't see the hit being taken by many institutions that deserve near-obliteration - "public health" government outfits and much of academia, for example - suffering much. A very dumbed-down (and amazingly docile and dependent) segment of the populace looks to these dumbed-down/dishonest "experts", they still will in 6 months, unbelievably.

What it was, Ford changed the length of the distributor rotor but kept the same part number. The rotor/terminal gap is a lot like the spark plug gap. In later years emissions rules and electronic ignition meant wider gaps, but these don't play well with older point style distributors. Ignition scopes are great.
From about 1965 - vacuum tubes. The CRT was made in Japan, an early import that was allowed. You know, BW televisions. What can it hurt to allow them to sell a few trinkets on the US market?
It also had two (2) pristine, almost unused Mullard 12AX7 tubes, which I immediately swapped into a Dynaco FM3 stereo tuner, and some high mileage 12AX7 tubes into the scope. Really great tool for working on cars.

Fortunately, we still have a good bug-out location with family about 30 miles up the road. Their location is - fingers crossed - not in jeopardy at this time. But if the last few years have taught us anything, it's that forest fires can explode and double or triple in size in just a few hours with the right conditions.
I spent part of the afternoon updating my handheld 2m / 440cm radios to include the sheriff's dispatch and the local ARES repeater.

It's been months since I went to Mass. Since there was church near me that wasn't actively telling me to stay away because they were afraid. I think the diocese dispensation ends this month and they'll have to start having Mass again. I hope. But I feel a lack of will in the clergy.
I think the forced absence of church for a lot of people, along with the cold distancing and masks are having a terrible effect on people. I say that as an admitted introvert. We're seeing how quick a society built on and by Judeo-Christian ideas can fall into that hell.

One thing that has bothered me about Trump is his treatment of Putin. It seems to border on boot licking but at minimum it is respectful. It bothers me because Putin is clearly a problem in Europe (as Trump has acknowledged when he talks about Germany,) and potentially a force multiplier for China. Anyway, Putin is not a friend and at worst meaningless.
Yet Trump talks as if the man is a friend, and this was epitomized by his talk of allowing Russia back into the G7. One theory is that he does this to drive the Left nuts.
Particular interest to me is Russia's relationship with China. I see Russia as an instigator that just wants to stir up shit and especially for whatever side is ahead. But in 2019 particularly a lot of China experts have been saying that Russia is moving closer to China driven by energy exports. OK, but Russia still has a lot to lose and I doubted this analysis but could not know. (These same experts who spent years telling us that China wanted Kim to stop his BS, and I knew that was a total lie but they continued to say it.)

I just saw an old Victor Davis Hanson video where he mentioned off hand (this was in 2018 I think) that it is a shame that the dems did all this Russia hoax stuff since it alienated Putin and Putin could be a big help to the US in a few areas since it would also be in his interests, but the Dems have made that impossible.
I know VDH advises the administration. I do not know how much, or how much they listen, but I also know that Trump is a VERY strategic thinker who does not care about appearances (ironic, isn't it.) For example, he talks up Fatty Kim as a friend, but anyone with a brain understands that this is a tactic and Trump would squash Fatty Kim in an instant on his merits alone. But Trump is changing the relationship between Kim, China, and the US and China has everything to lose while the US has everything to gain and if it means a few tweets about his "friend," then it costs him nothing. You see, he is playing the long game and does not care if he looks bad. [This is the opposite of what the Left thinks of him, of course]
So what do Kim and Putin have in common? they are both closer to China politically and on it's border and in fact, key allies (actually, one of the few allies China has.)

The Dynaco stereo FM3 was a kit tuner, a lot like Heathkit. It sounds absolutely spooky good after tuning up, freshened up and aligned. It has razor sharp 3D imaging with good speakers, I honestly didn't know FM could sound that good. The mids are very lifelike and realistic. I use a Dynaco stereo 70 to drive them. I mostly run it in the wintertime, it doubles as a space heater. Plus, there isn't much to listen to on FM anymore, it's mostly all trash.

I think that Trump is clearer on seeing China as the real adversary that is dangerous. He knows that Kim is a cut out for China, that N. Korea does what is does as part of China's bidding.
I think he has made moves to peal them away from China.
Russia is a problem, and always has been. Cornering them doesn't make it better. I have no clear idea what our policy should be towards them. But from their perspective, our moves in the old Yugoslavia, and Ukraine have not been encouraging. They feel we and NATO have been trying to encroach on their "near abroad", countries close to them.

I haven't asked but I don't think that could be a workable or even valid substitute for the Mass. For the hundreds of people who would normally be present at my church but aren't now. I will say that our priest has called a few times to talk to my family and I, to see how we're doing, and I do appreciate that. In any case, how has Trump "treated" Putin? Only concrete actions matter, and on that score, um, it's inarguable to call Trump's policies viciously anti-Russia.
Energy. (we're sort of done already here) As an energy abundance advocate - a very successful one -Trump has been able to "hurt" Russia more than any single policy I can think of going back through the Cold War. It's everything, to the stunted and distorted Russian economy.
But just for fun, add on the Nordstream sabotage, which may well succeed. Not even an obvious side-effect of rational energy policy - a specific effort to disrupt Russia's European energy marketing plans.
Trump has treated Russia incredibly harshly.
And there's the sanctions and the arms to Ukraine, but meh on all that, who cares. None of it materially affects Russia, and, turns out, who cares if it does? Doesn't matter any more.
Russia only matters now as a vandal on the margins - support for Tehran, its pathetic and pointless sponsorship of Assad the Chinless. Otherwise ..... zzzzzz.

I believe we missed a historic opportunity to bring Russia into the Western World.

In a way, this is a 'chicken or the egg?' question. If a child is born gay, it's quite possible adult gay predators pick up on that and have a field day. Maybe it's not that they're gay because they were molested while young but were molested while young because they gave off gay vibes that a predator noticed. (I find sexual predators, both straight and gay, good at picking up on vulnerabilities which children give off or even talk about.)
I had a friend who told me he knew he was gay from when he was young, though he couldn't articulate it at that age. He just knew the mailman 'was hunky', stuff like that. As a pre-teen, he was molested by a priest.

If we want to consider what was "Classic", I would not suggest medieval Christianity, as it was inhabited by those with a violent, medieval mindset. Rather, go to the source - when Jesus happened upon a scene where a woman was about to be stoned to death, did he say "well, that's the law, go ahead"??? no. He didn't say "well the law is over, do what you want" either. He said "the one who is without sin, cast the first stone." I'd say that showed quite a bit of reverence for life, right from the start.
One of the sad facts of history is that men and women have so regularly failed to live up to what they claimed to believe in, to how they were asked to live - but whose fault is that?

If you look at Stalin as a re-run of Ivan the Terrible, then it might take 500 years to get his lessons out of the Russian people, and frankly, at their birth rates an identifiable Russian people aren't going to be around for nearly that long.
There were a lot of great nations in history that just vanished completely, with other people moving in and taking over their lands. THere will be many more.

100 years ago, we were flirting with a whole slew of issues. REAL Racism. No equal Rights. Women had just got the vote. Cars were just starting to be sold. There was no air travel. No interstate Highway system. They were still doing CATTLE DRIVES.
Hell, my 91 year old mom first went to school on a WAGON.
Russia had a Czar until 1917. That's 103 years ago.
Hell, look at the rest of the 1920 world. Middle East? Still taking slaves and women hostage. China? had just overthrown the emporer. Japan? Still had one.
Things can change, but if you don't periodically rethink your strategic mindset, and look at NOW, not the past, you can miss opportunities.

You know, simply pointing out the obvious. Of course the usual boilerplate BS by his boss "in no way reflects our values blah blah, as soon as this was brought to my attention blah blah".
So many of the local leadership around the country, mayors, governors and so on, need replacing immediately. They have shown themselves completely in over their head and not in any way up to the task. They never were, but we can't afford the luxury of treating critical positions as capable of being filled by just anybody who checks the right block, people are not interchangeable meat sticks.

I don't find oatmeal raisin cookies to be distasteful.
But if you think you are biting into a chocolate chip cookie and it winds up being oatmeal cookie, it's just kind of a shock. Your brain anticipates chocolate chip and that makes the other good cookie you bite into almost seem repugnant.
I mean not exactly revolting, like when I picked up a beer can one time and took a swig and it turned out to be another party-goers spit can. But still it stuns the palate.

Though shredded coconut can be good, as in Almond Joys or Mounds.
But the kind of coconut inside the assorted chocolate box that you would buy a chick you would just bang as a slump-buster but don'treally have honest intentions towards is low grade.
Though it is probably superior to the mint, cherry or vanilla fluff filling inside cheaper assorted chocolates. Those things are all, in their own way, the Kaboom of chocolates.

You have several children, you have a job, you are blessed right now. You have to stop living in the past, falling back into bad habits, that then lead repeating the same negative unhealthy cycle downwards.
My younger brother died when i first left for college. He was 2 years younger than me. He was also my best friend. I took the advice from my dad and several other men, and I bought my first working class puppy, a 4th generation field trial golden retriever. I have had her, then an Australian Cattle Dog for the Golden to raise, then added another field trial Golden for both of them to raise, then I added Australian Sheppard, then after the 3 oldest died, have added another Australian Sheppard and a Border Collie. Hunting, working, and Herding Class dogs are just like raising children, will love you more than any woman in 2020 at our age and above, you get to train them, they love you for it, the love is unconditional, the emotional and mental and psychological and even physical benefits of taking that path and investing your love into a great intelligent puppy to train and raise as your own is priceless, and it will keep you occupied and out of your headspace. Those dogs don't allow you to have bad days or get down because they need you every day to play with them, love them, train with them, teach them, bond with them, ect....
Kindly consider this advice, bro. Get a puppy, a breed that is a hunting, working, or herding class dog.

Keep doing what Tammy advised - find several good things in each day.
Write them down every single day.
That way, when you have a bad day, you will have that record of all of the great things in your life to be thankful for.
Get into that habit, and you will be amazed at how much better you start to feel.
And on those days when coworkers or other people are getting on your last nerve, you can be grateful that you don't have to be any of those miserable poor bastards!

There are millions of people who would give everything they owned to have suffered through the "bland mediocrity" of having children.
There are people who kill themselves over the grief of not having children.
I know because I witnessed it first hand when I was 10 years old. She was an older cousin of mine, who adored all children and me in particular, and the inability to never have children of her own drove her insane. I found her clutching a baby doll, with foam and vomit all over her face and the floor around her.
There are people living in refrigerator boxes trying to raise their children in slums all over the world who would be thrilled to have a law degree, regular meals, running water, a good paying job, and an actual home to live in.
There are people who sell their 4 year old daughters to pimps, so they can feed the rest of their kids.
Please quit taking everything you have for granted.

I don't understand what you meant by that. I grew up hunting and out in the country around those types of dogs. Growing up we had 4-5 at all times on the farm and out at the hunting land.
The hunting, working, and herding class dogs love to be trained and worked. And it's work for the owner as well. Those dogs are the closest things you can have to best friends and children without having them or in unfortunate cases, losing them. The love raising a puppy is unconditional, but you have to put in the work for the sake of the puppy, yourself, and your relationship.
Those classes of dogs are happiest when they are being trained and worked. If you don't, they will get depressed and misbehave. They will still love you unconditionally though. But like any relationship, each side must put in the work for it to thrive.

It's been all over the TV news for at least the past hour that tonight in Compton (not that many miles from me), two LA County Sheriff's Deputies were ambushed in their van by a 'dark-skinned male' -- that's the entire description the Sheriff's Chief has provided of the suspect. Local politicos have already expressed their shock.
This is 100 percent on the anti-police hatemongers on the left. All of it.

Sadly Tammy it's not possible. I got ultra fit (5'10 190 at 10% body fat), got a job plus made great investments for passive income, learned and picked up old healthy hobbies and new ones, and made myself a catch. The women I dated and a coupe a had a relationship with always were on social media seeking greener grass. Also, I was tired of being treated as just a fuck tool, it becomes nihilistic at my age. Hell, it became nihilistic by the time I was in college.

I'm usually always here, I just don't have much to say sometimes. I think I let the classical go to shit though. During the VA MoMe I ventured into a guitar center and picked up a classical guitar. I hadn't touched one in a few years and it was weird. My fingers don't work that way anymore. I mean yeah it would take a month or so to get it back, but then if I go to play electric then that would be weird. The necks are just so different. When I went back to classical after 20 years of not playing it it took forever to open my picking hand back up and break the "pick grip", because you don't use a pick. Then when I went back to electric I started dropping the pick, and I...never...drop...the.. pick. I put the classical down after that. When I played the guitar in guitar center I couldn't get my hand to open back up as easy. It didn't help that the guitar was made wrong and couldn't be played in tune, it was a chinese pos that had the bridge placed wrong. On the open strings it was in tune, make a chord and it was out of tune. I just gave up after that and put it down.

yeah it wasn't exactly great on the open strings either, but was nowhere as bad as the fretted strings. That was driving me crazy, I'm trying to remember the right notes and they weren't where they were supposed to be, so it had me second guessing everything. lol. yeah, that was a real POS. Well traditionally there is no fingerboard radius on classicals. They are dead flat, and the neck is a lot wider, so those 2 things alone make it very different from electric. Yeah you would have to play it exclusively to be master grade good, but my thing is electric, so there is no point going there. I do get close when I spend the time, but then I have to eventually get back to my barbarian roots. lol

Roy Clark could play just about anything with strings, and if you look up some of his classical guitar performances, it was amazing.

I am left to cough and ponder in the valley below.
I remember a time, such clear air, and distant views and runs into the local canyons in my youth to ply our bicycles across the streams and trails upon trails used decades ago....not knowing we were traveling on historic routes....just kids...we...out for a day in the canyons.
Sad my kids can't have this....

Since I started posting here I have never mentioned my son. This was to protect him. This is no longer needed. This morning I found him dead in his bed. He had an epileptic seizure overnight and it took his life. He had been dealing with seizures while asleep for almost ten years now, and was on medication to control them, but it didn't always work.
I thank God that family and friends have already stepped up and things are being taken care of for now. I will probably be even more scarce around here than I have been for a while.
Please remember to tell your kids that you love them every chance you get. You may not get another.
Like I said, this is a drive by post. I won't be reading replies, although I know Teh Horde well enough to know that won't stop anyone from posting. So I'll just say thank you and I'll see you when I see you.
