I have to get the car serviced this week, leaving for Arizona on the 19th. Now, one thing people overlook is the cabin air filter, and I was guilty until a couple service trips ago. That thing looked horrible (I smoke). Imagine if you put one of those under a microscope.

The last time we went camping we made the egg in a basket style toast (a campfire staple for us) where you punch a hole out of a slice of bread and drop an egg into it to cook, and then made THAT into french toast.

"I'm sorry for not updating you last night. When we got home, neighbors were stopping by with tons of casseroles, cookies and lots of other goodies. (The place is starting to look like Costco.) Had a good meal, collapsed into bed and got a full nine hours, which hasn't happened in years.
There is not a whole lot new to report. They decided against attempting to remove the breathing tube because he spiked a fever of 102 the night before. The doctors didn't seem overly concerned with that development, and it responded quickly to Tylenol. Yesterday, he was hovering around 100, which has been the norm for him since this started. The plan is to do the echocardiogram this morning, along with a chest X-ray and proceed from there.
Yesterday afternoon he received the Sacrament of the Sick. Not too many years ago, when it was called Extreme Unction or Last Rites, just the thought of that would have terrified me. Today I am immensely grateful for the gift. We remain very hopeful, and the doctors have explained that this will be a slow process; however, they are cautiously optimistic based on his progress so far.

Btw - changing planes in NY last week before Grand Canyon - the flight out of NY was full - coming back? 25 people on the whole plane. Oh - got all my absentee ballot stuff set for the presidential election. Will crawl over broken glass, swim the Pacific and/or even kiss Trigglypuff (!) to make sure I can cast a ballot for Trump. Oh - FYI - in Arizona - which I drover over extensively this past week - maybe two dozen Trump signs spotted- only two Biden signs and one of those was on the county Democrat election headquarters office we sped by on our journey. I know it's just an observation. However, it certainly points to a higher level of enthusiasm among Trump voters there, FWIW.

I'm a local. The food quality at Flounders has, IMO, dropped off appreciably in the last few years. Wife and I will not go there anymore. If it's the all you can eat thing that's driving you, by all means go to Flounders. But if you want outstanding sea food, try the Grand Marlin located right at the toll booth. Or, if you want to make the drive to Pensacola, give the Fish House on Main Street a try.

The egg/milk wash is a great place to add flavor as well.
Some like vanilla extract but I prefer a splash of Jamaican rum or bourbon or cognac depending on my mood.
If you don't go overboard, some lemon or orange zest or both really adds a nice zing to your FT.

Caramel-soaked French Toast
1 1/2 cups firmly packed brown sugar
3/4 cup butter or margarine
1/4 cup plus 2 Tablespoons light corn syrup
10 (1 3/4 inch thick) slices French Bread
4 large eggs, lightly beaten
2 1/2 cups milk or half and half
1 Tablespoon vanilla extract
1 /4 teaspoon salt
3 Tablespoons sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1/4 cup butter or margarine, melted
COMBINE: first 3 ingredients in a medium saucepan. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, 5 minutes or until mixture is bubbly. Pour syrup mixture evenly into a lightly greased 13 x 9 x 2 inch baking dish. Arrange bread slices over syrup.
COMBINE: eggs and next 3 ingredients, stir well. Gradually pour mixture over bread slices. Cover and chill at least 8 hours (I chill overnight)
COMBINE: 3 Tablespoons sugar and cinnamon (or more!); stir well. Sprinkle evenly over soaked bread. Drizzle 1/4 cup melted butter or margarin over bread. Bake, uncovered at 350 degrees for 45-50 minutes or until golden and bubbly. Serve immediately.
(I'm sure you could use any bread you prefer but I've only done it with french bread. Maybe I'll try something new this year.)

Many lawyers are libs. And government employees, it goes without saying. Doctors used to be pretty conservative, but no longer. I remember seeing a poll a few years back showing the political breakdown by specialties - shrinks and pediatricians are the most liberal and anesthesiologists and radiologists tend to be conservative. Having worked with and known a lot of physicians over the years, that struck me as accurate, although the most conservative one I know is a nephrologist. Younger physicians do tend to buy into the lefty stuff much more than the older ones. My gyn retired and I made an appointment with a young one because I could get in to see her much more quickly. She came walking in the exam room with a BLM button on her white coat. I'll find another gyn next time I need to go to one.

We were told one of our family was a positive test result a few months ago and I'm sure the other three of us were counted as positive since we were quarantined. The kids loved it. Swam in the pool every day, grilled hot dogs, made snow cones and homemade ice cream, set up the tent and camped in the backyard, made smores, and did all kinds of great stuff since we were just hanging out at the house. I painted the bathrooms and built a new bookshelf for the youngest.
Someone had the sniffles briefly but we decided it was the mustard.
Worst. Pandemic. Ever.

We've had zero deaths in our county.
An elderly family friend supposedly died of it. He was in his eighties, lived in a nursing home back east, and had Parkinson's and dementia. The really disgusting thing is that his family members couldn't be with him in his last days.

People who have it and aren't sick sure as hell aren't staying home after the first couple of days. Especially if they're single and locked in their house all by themselves.
I'd be shocked if 2% of quarantined folks stayed home the entire time.

It is a beautiful day here. But I missed taking pictures of the mass of 8 feet tall sunflowers on both sides of a nearby road. It felt claustrophobic to walk there. The sunflowers are fading with that week of constant rain.

I found out recently a relative had died. This is someone I've never met, and didn't even really know existed... but the older folks knew her. Sort of.
She was ancient and in a nursing home, and I was dreading the chirpers and hypochondriacs to start in on it... but nobody did. So... I'm still 0 for 19. And I have tons of family members out there who talk about every little ache and pain and diagnosis.

yeah it's a done deal...has been for years...but that does not mean the Saudi's will actually formally recognize just yet. Give permission and encourage the other Gulf States to move forward, sure....but they will wait to the bitter end. it is the saudi and arab market way

These people are getting louder, and I think there's a lot of people who are young, got indoctrinated by the left, and when they stopped accepting that garbage, decided they would NOT go to the right. They seem to put everything in political terms, like idiot lefties do, but when election time comes up, they're going to NOT vote for either major party. And talk about the rest of us like we're damn fools.

I disagree with you greatly on this one! This entire deal has been the brainchild of Crown Prince Salman of Saudi, and Bibi Neteyehu, in response to Obama tilting US policy in favor of the Iranians. When Trump took office, he sent Jared Kushner over and offered incentives to accelerate the timetable and the cooperation between all of them.
What I believe has been happening is that Saudi Arabia has gotten all of its junior partners to join first, and then it will join a week or two before the November Election, because they're not dumb about our politics. They know Democrats are a threat and an ally of their true enemy, iran.
Kosovo and Serbia getting in on it was all Trump, a brilliant move. And consider this - Bahain is very closely tied to the Saudis, and just two weeks ago said they would only join if the Saudi's gave them their approval. Clearly, that approval was given.
This is going to be one of Trump's October Surprises - well, a surprise to people who haven't been paying attention.

It is not a two pole left/right system, it is a three point system that looks at points of principal importance: Limits, outcomes and individual rights for conservatives, liberals and libertarians.
Libertarians look like they are between the other two poles, but when your view of the world is 2 dimensional that is exactly what the third point of a triangle looks like.
(there are other explanations for this, having to do with psych profiles, but I won't go there)
no one (sane) has a hard centering on any of these points, but a continuum that can take in all three positions.
As for the rest, the drive in the 60s was for the libertarians to ally with the left over the warfare state, and the 50's with what was left of the classic liberals. 80's of course were nothing and went no where.
At the moment there is a schism in the LP between the sort that thought Weld as a good candidate, and the newer gropu called the Mises caucus which is more anarcho-capitalist than Rothbard's hard property rights stance.
the Antifa anarchists are hard socialists, and do go back to the idea of syndicalism as a form of expressing socialism. The anarcho-capitalists are focused on voluntary exchange and go back to Austrian economic school - from Menger who proposed the theory of marginalism, and through von Mises, and Hans Herman-Hoppe.

The larger Middle Eastern countries are modernizing and looking at economies that aren't dominated by oil. The UAE and the Saudis are the biggest movers in all of this and modernizing means adapting to the modern world. They know they have to have relationships beyond their borders built on trade and normalized relations.
The old ways are dying. It's a mistake to judge what will happen solely on what has happened. Times change.

IIRC, one of the first things MBS did was mass arrest of all of the Saudi family members who have been funding terror, including the vile Prince Alwaleed bin Talal. He's the one who gave Giuliani a check for millions right after 9/11. Probably also included a lot of the ones who had been giving money to the Clintons (remember the prince who bragged Saudis accounted for 20% of Hillary's 2016 campaign and then retracted a few days later?). Think MBS confiscated their millions/billions, too.

4. Get a dog and walk it everyday
5. Go to the TXMeet up-I think you are doing that, Thank Goodness.
6. A spiritual approach to life but since you're pissed off at God right now that probably won't work.
7. Forgiveness and moving on.
8. Go to the bar and chat up some person sitting next to you.
9. See if you can get together with Backwards Boy for dinner. He seems like a nice guy who appreciates you.
Nobody here is a your enemy and some people including me praying for your healing everyday..
I have to go now so i won't be able to fully appreciate your complaints towards me.

Read the 9/11 report. Listen to what bin Laden himself said. A certain Iranian terror leader who no longer walks the earth was one of the biggest facilitators of 9/11. Iran sheltered and gave safe passage to al Qaeda into Afghanistan.

Nah. Rothbard may have considered himself to be intellectually pure, Freidman too. Most of the others are pragmatists who are saying, "this doesn't work, let's try something else" Even Rand was full on board with comporting with reality, at least theoretically. That is what Objectivism IS.
The major thinkers in this area made a career saying "what we are doing is not working and this is why we think it doesn't work"
the important thing is, they are trying something different. And they want to be free to do so.
It was one of the LP candidates for the down ticket this year, I misremember, maybe Maine, who said, "You cans stand on the highest mountain and proclaim your self ownership in opposition to the state, but that really doesn't keep someone from robbing your house while you are doing it; you should keep on with your life no matter what your politics are"
