Willowed important car tip:
I have to get the car serviced this week, leaving for Arizona on the 19th. Now, one thing people overlook is the cabin air filter, and I was guilty until a couple service trips ago. That thing looked horrible (I smoke). Imagine if you put one of those under a microscope. Posted by: bill in arkansas at September 12, 2020 08:55 AM (C1Lsn) -- A dirty cabin filter can restrict airflow so badly that it will make the air conditioner stop blowing. Keep that sucker changed on schedule so you don't have to do it on a trip with the wife and kids complaining for an hour until you can get to a town and find a car parts store with one in stock. Speaking of shaves, mine this morning was disappointing. I do the old-fashioned safety razor routine with brush and soap, and my vintage slant-head razor is excellent. But the blade I had in it, a Rockwell (made by the same people who make Rockwell razors, I suppose), chopped at my bristles on the first pass, and gave me a lot of what shaving hobbyists call "blade feel" on pass two. No nicks or razor burn, but it was not a good shave.
I'll try this blade in this razor once more. If I get the same feedback on the first pass, I'll toss it and load something else. Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius at September 12, 2020 09:09 AM (rpbg1) 39

I have that filter replaced every year, two at the outside. Why do the car makers insist on burying it deep within the dashboard? Update from IrishEi regarding her son:
"I'm sorry for not updating you last night. When we got home, neighbors were stopping by with tons of casseroles, cookies and lots of other goodies. (The place is starting to look like Costco.) Had a good meal, collapsed into bed and got a full nine hours, which hasn't happened in years. There is not a whole lot new to report. They decided against attempting to remove the breathing tube because he spiked a fever of 102 the night before. The doctors didn't seem overly concerned with that development, and it responded quickly to Tylenol. Yesterday, he was hovering around 100, which has been the norm for him since this started. The plan is to do the echocardiogram this morning, along with a chest X-ray and proceed from there. Yesterday afternoon he received the Sacrament of the Sick. Not too many years ago, when it was called Extreme Unction or Last Rites, just the thought of that would have terrified me. Today I am immensely grateful for the gift. We remain very hopeful, and the doctors have explained that this will be a slow process; however, they are cautiously optimistic based on his progress so far. Thanks for all the prayers and support. It means so much and I really appreciate it." *bluebell here - please keep praying for IrishEi's son (I know you will). She is deriving great comfort from knowing that the Horde is on this. This "Cuties" thing strikes me as profoundly gross and weird. As well as just plain wrong. Promoting pedophilia now, Netflix? Really? It seems the shape of a Biden Administration is becoming clearer. "Idiocracy" is way too mild a word. I'm thinking.. "Insanocracy" or "Pervertocracy" works pretty well for a Sniffy Joe led gov't. So, let's see here - With a Biden Administration we get: Endless Gov't Funded Burning, Murder, and Looting by Democrat approved Brown Shirts a Destroyed economy thanks to the Nude Green Eel any good paying jobs that remain get shipped over to China Hunter Biden becomes a trillionaire! (Gotta look on the sunny side) Endless marxist brainwashing in school, entertainment, sports, church, gov't Endless promotion of trannies and surgical/hormonal mutilation of children Legalized pedophilia - cuz they're really pushing this, right before the election Endless racial conflict. My problem with COVID is that we had an excellent, early data point - the cruise ship - and ignored it. Very rarely do we have an isolated population of significant numbers in a range of demographic cohorts. Things that we learned that need fixing: 1. The media are duplicitous idiots 2. American science education is deeply flawed 3. American stats education is poor 4. We need medical surveillance outside of China 5. Fuck China 6. HQC with magnesium, Vit D, and selenium needs to be an OTC medicine 7. Airflow in nursing homes needs to fixed 8. Respiratory infection protocols in nursing homes and hospitals need fixing 9. Gov of NY and NJ need to be hanged 10. Releasing raw data to the public, so the media can hype panic is a mistake, an analog would be having the weatherman read metar reports and atmospheric sounding data Posted by: Jean Posted by: Jean at September 12, 2020 09:20 AM (Xih1H) 88

Yet another racial huckstress exposed:
https://preview.tinyurl.com/y4lezmqv Thots: 1. I find it extremely difficult to wade through these stories that insist on using the person's "preferred pronouns." I have to keep going "Who is this "they'"? You know what? MY preferred promouns are "we" and "you (plural0" Have fun with that. 2. This one actually blames her parents' "lies and racist jokes" on her pretending to be, at various times, "Latinx," African American, North African or whichever of the 50 Shades of Whey she chose to "be" at any given moment. Read the article and it's very clear her family had nothing to do with this deception. The person who outed "they" even states this firmly. But this twisted freak actually blamed her...their...I freakin' give up... lying, racist parents for pretending to be PoC. Posted by: Dr. Fauci Wants Things at September 12, 2020 09:23 AM (jbF6h) 103

I don't believe there's going to be any vaccine. I think claiming there will be is just a big scam because so many people want to hear it, because they're scared. Trump can't resist giving people what they want, especially when it's just ya-ya-ya bullshit.
Now I do think this creates a huge market for the rollout of some placebo solution that they will call a vaccine - placebo or worse. That's why my wife and I will never subject ourselves to taking anything of that kind, ever. If you insist, I can probably come up with some forged paperwork saying I did it, just like every illegal alien in the country will have 2 days after it becomes a requirement - but I an't gonna actually do it. The Medical community and Big Pharma, such as it is, has totally forfeited any trust I have in them or in anything they're selling. If they work very hard at being honest and aboveboard for the next 20 or 30 years, well I guess they can get my grandchildren to believe them. But I'm done. Hey Gang - Publius R here. Back in the States for some long needed RnR. Just got back form the Grand Canyon and other sights in Arizona. Just needed to get out of Hong Kong for a while. I'm in NYC this week with a short trip to upstate NY to visit friends. (JJ if you are around perhaps a mini MoMe might be in order? Let me know if you are around - hit me up on the contact page on my website below.
Btw - changing planes in NY last week before Grand Canyon - the flight out of NY was full - coming back? 25 people on the whole plane. Might have been the date (09/11) but it seemed like everyone wanted out of NYC - and no one wants to go back. And, frankly now that I am here I understand. The city is in a dreadful state; as bad, and, in some ways, worse, than I remember it in the 70's. This may be my last trip here. Oh - got all my absentee ballot stuff set for the presidential election. Will crawl over broken glass, swim the Pacific and/or even kiss Trigglypuff (!) to make sure I can cast a ballot for Trump. Oh - FYI - in Arizona - which I drover over extensively this past week - maybe two dozen Trump signs spotted- only two Biden signs and one of those was on the county Democrat election headquarters office we sped by on our journey. I know it's just an observation. However, it certainly points to a higher level of enthusiasm among Trump voters there, FWIW. Posted by: Publius Redux at September 12, 2020 09:37 AM (YffO4) 156

This was in a respectable middle class neighborhood of older but well maintained homes, in Springfield IL. Meanwhile, the small town/suburb just a few miles north is just the opposite-probably 5 Trump signs to every Biden sign. What gives? If reports from other Morons are accurate I'm seeing more Biden signs in one neighborhood than some people are seeing across multiple states! Maybe they are all employees of Pritzker or Madigan, or teachers union members?

164 Yesterday I was driving to the Y for my thrice-weekly workout and counted at least 5, maybe 6, Biden lawn signs along one street, but only 1 Trump sign.
Posted by: Secret Square at September 12, 2020 09:40 AM I saw Biden signs pop up this past week. They're on waterfront property off the highway. Inland, there are Trump signs galore. If you visit Lake of the Ozarks, one of the funny things you might notice is the size of some of the boats. People build big vacation homes there, but if you want to one-up your neighbors you need to get a vessel that looks like it could launch F-18s off the bow. Years ago, I saw one with a huge Doppler radar dome on the mast, and this is on a lake where you probably couldn't lose sight of the shoreline at the widest point.

I make this for breakfast every Christmas morning...have to set it up the night before:
Caramel-soaked French Toast 1 1/2 cups firmly packed brown sugar 3/4 cup butter or margarine 1/4 cup plus 2 Tablespoons light corn syrup 10 (1 3/4 inch thick) slices French Bread 4 large eggs, lightly beaten 2 1/2 cups milk or half and half 1 Tablespoon vanilla extract 1 /4 teaspoon salt 3 Tablespoons sugar 1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon 1/4 cup butter or margarine, melted COMBINE: first 3 ingredients in a medium saucepan. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, 5 minutes or until mixture is bubbly. Pour syrup mixture evenly into a lightly greased 13 x 9 x 2 inch baking dish. Arrange bread slices over syrup. COMBINE: eggs and next 3 ingredients, stir well. Gradually pour mixture over bread slices. Cover and chill at least 8 hours (I chill overnight) COMBINE: 3 Tablespoons sugar and cinnamon (or more!); stir well. Sprinkle evenly over soaked bread. Drizzle 1/4 cup melted butter or margarin over bread. Bake, uncovered at 350 degrees for 45-50 minutes or until golden and bubbly. Serve immediately. (I'm sure you could use any bread you prefer but I've only done it with french bread. Maybe I'll try something new this year.) Posted by: Tami at September 12, 2020 10:03 AM (cF8AT) 225

Many lawyers are libs. And government employees, it goes without saying. Doctors used to be pretty conservative, but no longer. I remember seeing a poll a few years back showing the political breakdown by specialties - shrinks and pediatricians are the most liberal and anesthesiologists and radiologists tend to be conservative. Having worked with and known a lot of physicians over the years, that struck me as accurate, although the most conservative one I know is a nephrologist. Younger physicians do tend to buy into the lefty stuff much more than the older ones. My gyn retired and I made an appointment with a young one because I could get in to see her much more quickly. She came walking in the exam room with a BLM button on her white coat. I'll find another gyn next time I need to go to one. Posted by: Donna&&&&&&&&V at September 12, 2020 10:05 AM (HabA/) 229

Catherine, I feel for ya. I'm curious, though--is it a good thing for actual celiacs that the hipsters like to think they're "gluten intolerant?" Seems like it would have the benefit of creating a market for gluten free foods, that then expands your selections. Those hipsters are proving that capitalism is grand. Joke's on them. The problem with arguing with "normies" (that is , non''rons) about Covid being a scam is that by this point most people know someone who knows someone who caught the virus and DIED. So you can't use words like "scam" or "hoax." But they don't seem to grasp that the virus was/is real, but the REACTION is a hoax.
In other years, everyone knows someone who knews ome one who knew somoene who dies of the flu--mostly an elderly person. But we did NOTHING to "mitigate" it. Truth be told, Golf states/Saudi peace plan was in the making for about 20 years. When old King Abdullah, being pressured after 9/11, delivered a Saudi proposal for normalization with Israel. Little gulf states signed on as well. At the time when asked about Philistinians and this bank that strip, they were told by Saudi FM that house of Saud is not in the real estate business.

Pretty sure it's already a done deal. Just waiting for the right timing. The new Gulf Cooperation Council is dominated by the Saudis. At times, the buildup to a punch line is closer to storytelling. They're neither "far left" nor "far right." What are they? Far center? Far up? Far down? Far nowhere? These people are getting louder, and I think there's a lot of people who are young, got indoctrinated by the left, and when they stopped accepting that garbage, decided they would NOT go to the right. So they settled for Ayn Rand and all those other goofs as their political mentors. I keep hearing them say the names, in whispered, reverent tones. Posted by: Nevergiveup at September 12, 2020 10:45 AM (tsZQ+) I disagree with you greatly on this one! This entire deal has been the brainchild of Crown Prince Salman of Saudi, and Bibi Neteyehu, in response to Obama tilting US policy in favor of the Iranians. When Trump took office, he sent Jared Kushner over and offered incentives to accelerate the timetable and the cooperation between all of them. What I believe has been happening is that Saudi Arabia has gotten all of its junior partners to join first, and then it will join a week or two before the November Election, because they're not dumb about our politics. They know Democrats are a threat and an ally of their true enemy, iran. Kosovo and Serbia getting in on it was all Trump, a brilliant move. And consider this - Bahain is very closely tied to the Saudis, and just two weeks ago said they would only join if the Saudi's gave them their approval. Clearly, that approval was given. This is going to be one of Trump's October Surprises - well, a surprise to people who haven't been paying attention. Posted by: Tom Servo at September 12, 2020 11:05 AM (V2Yro) 419

OBL & al Queda would've likely rather murdered the SA royal family than 3000 Americans. Certainly it would've been a tough choice for them. So my question is, what do we do with the nutjob
libertarians and anarchists? They're neither "far left" nor "far right." What are they? Far center? Far up? Far down? Far nowhere? [ . . . ] Posted by: BurtTC at September 12, 2020 11:03 AM (hku12) It is not a two pole left/right system, it is a three point system that looks at points of principal importance: Limits, outcomes and individual rights for conservatives, liberals and libertarians. Libertarians look like they are between the other two poles, but when your view of the world is 2 dimensional that is exactly what the third point of a triangle looks like. (there are other explanations for this, having to do with psych profiles, but I won't go there) no one (sane) has a hard centering on any of these points, but a continuum that can take in all three positions. As for the rest, the drive in the 60s was for the libertarians to ally with the left over the warfare state, and the 50's with what was left of the classic liberals. 80's of course were nothing and went no where. At the moment there is a schism in the LP between the sort that thought Weld as a good candidate, and the newer gropu called the Mises caucus which is more anarcho-capitalist than Rothbard's hard property rights stance. the Antifa anarchists are hard socialists, and do go back to the idea of syndicalism as a form of expressing socialism. The anarcho-capitalists are focused on voluntary exchange and go back to Austrian economic school - from Menger who proposed the theory of marginalism, and through von Mises, and Hans Herman-Hoppe. Yep. One of those big changes was making MB scum like Khashoggi disappear. The larger Middle Eastern countries are modernizing and looking at economies that aren't dominated by oil. The UAE and the Saudis are the biggest movers in all of this and modernizing means adapting to the modern world. They know they have to have relationships beyond their borders built on trade and normalized relations. The old ways are dying. It's a mistake to judge what will happen solely on what has happened. Times change. Posted by: JackStraw at September 12, 2020 11:19 AM (ZLI7S) 462

IIRC, one of the first things MBS did was mass arrest of all of the Saudi family members who have been funding terror, including the vile Prince Alwaleed bin Talal. He's the one who gave Giuliani a check for millions right after 9/11. Probably also included a lot of the ones who had been giving money to the Clintons (remember the prince who bragged Saudis accounted for 20% of Hillary's 2016 campaign and then retracted a few days later?). Think MBS confiscated their millions/billions, too. Posted by: Lizzy at September 12, 2020 11:21 AM (bDqIh) Posted by: Asshoes at September 12, 2020 11:21 AM (SyYku) 468

People repeatedly offer suggestions on here and have for years, because they're caring people who think you're a smart, talented amusing person. The first one I've heard you take is Tami's, I believe, which is a good thing Jesus asks a question in one of the Gospels "Do you want to be healed?" Some people simply don't want to be, because there are plenty of people on here who deal with or have dealt with depression and, yes, they can actually get help. 1. Therapy or hypontherapy 2. Medications 3. Going out an talking to people. You're a musician- you could do something for others-aside from your kids-by playing music at a nursing home 4. Get a dog and walk it everyday 5. Go to the TXMeet up-I think you are doing that, Thank Goodness. 6. A spiritual approach to life but since you're pissed off at God right now that probably won't work. 7. Forgiveness and moving on. 8. Go to the bar and chat up some person sitting next to you. 9. See if you can get together with Backwards Boy for dinner. He seems like a nice guy who appreciates you. Nobody here is a your enemy and some people including me praying for your healing everyday.. I have to go now so i won't be able to fully appreciate your complaints towards me. It's a matter of faith among a lot of people that the Saudi government was deep into sponsoring terrorism. It's not true. Read the 9/11 report. Listen to what bin Laden himself said. A certain Iranian terror leader who no longer walks the earth was one of the biggest facilitators of 9/11. Iran sheltered and gave safe passage to al Qaeda into Afghanistan. Is the sky supposed to be orange? Posted by: Nurse ratched at September 12, 2020 11:19 AM (U2p+3) The good news is we now know what it looks like to live on Mars. Also, I like to call it "amber" because it is easier to work it into a folksy rhyme about the weather. Ain't got there yet, but I will, I will. ...and, we've moved on to mostly unignited forests.

Right. And all this stuff, all these arguments going back and forth among the people who see themselves as more enlightened than the idiots who participate in the two party system... until it isn't, they just look like a bunch of wankers, doing cosplay politics. Because that's the problem with ALL of this. Anyone's intellectual purity is bound to ALWAYS butt up against practical reality, and if you are standing over there somewhere, spouting your views, and no one is listening?? Yeah. Posted by: BurtTC at September 12, 2020 11:29 AM (hku12) Nah. Rothbard may have considered himself to be intellectually pure, Freidman too. Most of the others are pragmatists who are saying, "this doesn't work, let's try something else" Even Rand was full on board with comporting with reality, at least theoretically. That is what Objectivism IS. The major thinkers in this area made a career saying "what we are doing is not working and this is why we think it doesn't work" the important thing is, they are trying something different. And they want to be free to do so. It was one of the LP candidates for the down ticket this year, I misremember, maybe Maine, who said, "You cans stand on the highest mountain and proclaim your self ownership in opposition to the state, but that really doesn't keep someone from robbing your house while you are doing it; you should keep on with your life no matter what your politics are" Posted by: Kindltot at September 12, 2020 11:43 AM (WyVLE) 503
