And yet here in Texas, after a lot of late August heat (Texas hot in August? who heard of such a thing?) now it is remarkably cool this weekend - temp's only 72 this morning and may get into low 80's but that's all. (coming out a streak of 3 weeks where it was close to or over 100 every day)
Anytime someone is having a "heat wave", someone else is having a cold spell. Anytime someone is having a drought, someone is having a flood. The entire concept of a "global temperature" or "global weather" has always been a fantasy from the start, a complete fabrication. There is no such thing.

Hot poisonous jelly outside from March to December. I go out on Saturday morning early to wash and sort-of detail my car. Then I stagger back inside and detail me.
My experience in LA in 2014 was that not every place had air-conditioning, or proper A/C anyway. The hotel where I stayed had good air in my room, but some of the rooms on the ground floor were cool during the day, and others were stuffy. As was the diner across the street and the rental car office on Sunday. It's as though they're still learning.

At Christmastime World Market has lots of packets of flavored cocoa for use in hot chocolate. I buy several and they last a while, since I put only one teaspoon in each small cup of coffee. I looked up todays just for grins, and I was only vaguely aware of one of the people listed (Taylor Swift) and had never heard of any of the songs, nor will I ever. Like so much of pop culture, making that list now is just a meaningless exercise carried out because it meant something 40 and 50 years ago.
It was a good window into how pop music has died completely. I think we're back to just local performers with small numbers of personal friends and acquaintances who follow them, virtually and in RL when possible. That's what pop music was before the 20th century, we're reverting to the norm.

What really pissed me off about that is that I followed it because I had grown up in Phoenix, Keating started his career by running the bank where I had my first account to keep what a maid carrying papers. McCain always pretended that he was some innocent new Senator who got tricked into this by the older wickeder politicians - In fact, McCain set the whole thing, using the contacts from his Father in Law who had been a partner with Keating in several ventures. (And Cindy was in on it all too, it was her allowing John to have a cut of all of the grift her family had been working for decades)
John McCain planned it all, organized it all, and personally recruited everyone who was a part of it. Then he pretended that he didn't know nuttin' and was just a poor little lamb who lost his way. That asshole was a corrupt piece of scum from the start.

I've done this a few times. The "putting cocoa mix in coffee" thing, not the "mentioning it here".
We used to get the Starbuck's "Extra Burned" blend at the office; I was not drinking that without cream and sugar. But on occasion, I'd get myself a big mug of it and then find that, "Oh. We're out of sugar." At those times, I'd just grab a pack of the Swiss Miss cocoa mix that they also provided for employees and pour that in. It was okay; I think it would've been better with a different blend of coffee.
Later on, we switched to milder coffee blends, and I started drinking my coffee black, anyway, while I was getting some dental work done.

Fun fact: the only brass instrument I never learned how to play was the trombone. I was going to rectify this my freshman year in college, but all of the school-owned ones were signed out that spring. And then I found better things to do with my time.

The author of that piece noticed that Melania's outfit during her address was quite serious and absolutely had a military theme - but she got the origin completely wrong. She probably knows this, which is why she used black and white Photo's to make her comparisons. Leni's outfit back in the day was undoubtedly a light gray, as that was standard German dress uniform color of the time. (SS wore black) Melania, on the other hand, wore Olive Drab, which together with the double leather belt (rich brown) looks to be based on the standard British Officer's dress uniform from the 30's and 40's. It was extremely appropriate for the times, and for the seriousness of her address.
Although I can't find a photo at the moment, I'm quite sure that the female members of the British Royal Family would have worn something similar during that war. That's the look Melania was going for, and achieved.

I've had good results from Capstar and spraying. Lots of work with a nit comb soaked in flea spray, but the Capstar knocks the fleas down for 24 hours or so, enough to get a foothold. It really is full-spectrum warfare on all fronts.

75,000 acre brush fire south of me.
Tough terrain and not many roads to get to the fire.
Lots of air action overhead but no real heavy tankers.
I was going to head east for a couple of days but even though the closest fire spot is about five miles away wind forecasts are all over the place. NWS says 25-35 from the NW, fire crews say 25-35 from the east.
It'll make a difference in sticking around or not.
I doubt I'll have to evacuate but it is nervous making.

I guess it all depends on your perspective. To you, they seem carefree and just speaking truth to power. To me, they seem scared to death and all of them are attacking at once.
I'm not sure if you got the reference from the @shipwreckedcrew tweet but Mueller's team, likely Andrew Weissmann, recreated the Wood's File for the Carter Page FISA warrant after the fact and somehow the original has disappeared, something that is not supposed to even be possible. The Senate was just briefed on this last week.
What has become apparent is one of the reasons for the length of the investigation is that evidence was hidden, altered or destroyed. Just like in the Flynn case where USA Jensen only found the exculpatory evidence a couple months ago because the Mueller team hid it.
This is a big problem.

I'd heard about that fire. CO has had several bad years.
This one is 20% contained. The east side includes a deep canyon with a river which helps a lot.
The valley here is full of smoke. That happened a couple of years ago from fires northwest of us.
A wind may help clear the air if if comes from the northwest like the weather guessers say.
If it comes from the east, like the fire people say, we're screwed.

I was very relieved that the US Marshal's reacted so quickly after that came out. If he had been allowed to put out a statement like that and then stay free, it would have been taken by all of his fellow travelers as a sign that they were Protected from On High, and they would have ramped up their activities even more. Now, they're scared - angry, but honestly scared. Good, it took us way too long to get to this point.

I have to say that I'm indifferent to the paper's fate. Newspapers are dying all over. The whole point of Stars and Stripes was for deployed troops to have an English-language news story and for command to be able to get messages out.
Now you can just go online or get it through an app.
The military public affairs career field is in steep decline, and they've merged it twice since I enlisted (mumble) years ago. So Trump might get a bounce for saving it now, but it's on borrowed time.

Congress supposed to be passing a Military Appropriations bill which was approved by committee in July. Pelosi and Schumer are trying to throw some typical shit into it like they always do, Trump and the Senate Leadership say no way, just pass the damn bill like we agreed to already. Money for this fiscal year is running out, of course that is all fixed if Congress just does what they already said.
So, Stars and Stripes is popular on the left, especially with some of Nancy's house caucus. So Esper comes out and says "okay we're out of money, we're canceling S & S." they all howl, Esper says "nope you won't give us money, S&S goes first." So I'm not sure where the big negotiations are, but that's why Trump just jumped in and said "okay we're keeping S&S." Looks to me like he and Esper are just running a good cop, bad cop scene.

That is exactly her problem. She and everyone else knows she's living the life she's living because of her parents and it's obvious the latter are trying to set her up to be financially secure after they die. Once they do, she's going to be a nobody.
Personally, while there are plenty of people who think she should run for Congress, I don't think she's cut out for the job. And I believe she'd hate it.

I suspect there's more to it than that, and I would start with the assumption that if the Pentagon (i.e. Esper) wanted to cancel S and S, there was something the newspaper was doing that is not good for the Deep State.

I did my lawn on Thursday morning. Started at 0800 and walked back inside at 0950. By the time I got back into the house I could have taken my shirt off and wrung it out.
About 9:00 or so I've been at work 1 1/2 to 2 hours and it's time to change shirts. If I'm lucky I only have to do it twice a morning.

going on with the Stars and Stripes contretemps - looks like it's
actually just another episode of Politics as Usual in DC.
Congress supposed to be passing a Military Appropriations bill which
was approved by committee in July. Pelosi and Schumer are trying to
throw some typical shit into it like they always do, Trump and the
Senate Leadership say no way, just pass the damn bill like we agreed to
already. Money for this fiscal year is running out, of course that is
all fixed if Congress just does what they already said.
So, Stars and Stripes is popular on the left, especially with some
of Nancy's house caucus. So Esper comes out and says "okay we're out of
money, we're canceling S S." they all howl, Esper says "nope you
won't give us money, SS goes first." So I'm not sure where the
big negotiations are, but that's why Trump just jumped in and said "okay
we're keeping SS." Looks to me like he and Esper are just running
a good cop, bad cop scene.
