Critical Race Theory at a nuclear lab, at the FBI and . . . [KT]

Let me say it plainly: critical race theory is a toxic, pseudoscientific, and racist ideology that is taking over our public institutions--and will be weaponized against the American people.
Time to fight back.

Good morning! Yesterday, Ace posted an update from Christopher F. Rufo on a brewing civil war at Sandia Nuclear Laboratories, over critical race theory in training programs for employees. This involved segregated "struggle sessions" for white male employees, among other outrages. A dissident electrical engineer named Casey Peterson rebelled. He produced a rather long video for other employees, available at Ace's link, with some good information on Critical Race Theory and current race relations. He was placed on leave. I was disturbed that part of the training program included valuing anecdotal evidence over data. At a lab that designs nuclear weapons!

Today, a few thoughts on Casey Peterson's predicament, plus information on intersectionality training at the FBI, which sounds pretty "problematic" to me. And a few additional attempts to understand where critical race theory came from and where it is going.

How much trouble is Casey Peterson in?

When I first saw that video, I was worried about Mr. Peterson. I wondered if he had said something for which he could get in serious trouble. Via Instapundit, Liberty Unyielding has an analysis of the legal issues surrounding Casey Peterson's actions, and those of his employer: Illegal retaliation at Sandia Labs for opposing reverse discrimination?

The suspension of Peterson might violate the anti-retaliation provisions of at least two civil-rights laws, Title VII of the Civil Rights Act and 42 USC 1981.
Peterson's video opposes racist scapegoating that a reasonable employee could view as racial harassment, and seems to oppose race-based hiring.

Peterson could reasonably have thought that Sandia's anti-white training was racial harassment that created a hostile environment in violation of federal civil-rights laws. Forcing an employee to confess his complicity in oppression of women and people of color just because of his race and sex is extremely racist and sexist.
Courts have ruled that "baseless accusations of racism" made against employees because of their race are racial harassment that contributes to a racially hostile work environment in violation of the 1964 Civil Rights Act. (See Underwood v. Northport Health Services (1989)).
Courts have also ruled that anti-male diversity training seminars can be sexual harassment. (See Hartman v. Pena (1995))

Peterson faces other blowback. He took some real risks in coming forward. Becoming a whistleblower from inside an organization is not something to be undertaken lightly. It is often better to leave BEFORE becoming a whistleblower. He's on leave now, but his future is up in the air. Do you have any experience as a whistleblower, or do you know someone who does?

The latest development in the "anti-racist" witch hunt is BLM mobs running around the nation's capital, shouting, "White silence is violence!" and accosting random people at restaurants, demanding they display the black-power fist. This exercise is remarkable because BLM appears to have given up trying to convince anyone. Of course, black-power gestures under duress have no meaning. Everyone knows it's all a lie, but the Marxist movement keeps at it anyway, just because it can.

Theodore Dalrymple "takes a chain saw to White Fragility by Robin DiAngelo and How to Be an Antiracist by Ibram X. Kendi."

DiAngelo, who is white, became quite popular in the corporate/university anti-racism training field. Her communication style is dramatic. But she has been getting some quite brutal criticism lately. Kendi, who is black, was identified to me (by someone who is in the business of creating training programs like those, say, at Sandia Labs) as THE go-to guy for a definition of anti-racism. You might like the Dalrymple piece.

Speaking of Kendi, Steven Hayward had an enlightening piece up recently:

I have previously referred to Kurt Vonnegut's famous 1961 short story "Harrison Bergeron," which is a mordant satire of the tyrannical world of perfect equality. If you've never read it, here's the first paragraph:

THE YEAR WAS 2081, and everybody was finally equal. They weren't only equal before God and the law. They were equal every which way. Nobody was smarter than anybody else. Nobody was better looking than anybody else. Nobody was stronger or quicker than anybody else. All this equality was due to the 211th, 212th, and 213th Amendments to the Constitution, and to the unceasing vigilance of agents of the United States Handicapper General.

And what does Kendi think should be done? This:

To fix the original sin of racism, Americans should pass an anti-racist amendment to the U.S. Constitution that enshrines two guiding anti-racist principals: Racial inequity is evidence of racist policy and the different racial groups are equals. The amendment would make unconstitutional racial inequity over a certain threshold, as well as racist ideas by public officials (with "racist ideas" and "public official" clearly defined). It would establish and permanently fund the Department of Anti-racism (DOA) comprised of formally trained experts on racism and no political appointees. The DOA would be responsible for preclearing all local, state and federal public policies to ensure they won't yield racial inequity, monitor those policies, investigate private racist policies when racial inequity surfaces, and monitor public officials for expressions of racist ideas. The DOA would be empowered with disciplinary tools to wield over and against policymakers and public officials who do not voluntarily change their racist policy and ideas.

Yipes!

It's as though Kendi took "Harrison Bergeron" as a how-to manual.
Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey this week gave Kendi $10 million for his Boston University project. I look forward to all the leftist critics of "corporate influence" on campus protesting this corporate largess.

60 Pro-Antifa "journalists" in Portland no longer do livestreaming from the riots, because the livestreaming was showing Antifa violence. Instead, they record everything, and then post only edited video clips, editing out all Antifa violence, and leaving only the police response.

There was a classic example of that last night - the video clip shows someone getting on his motorcycle, and the cops rushing over to arrest the person before he could leave. The clip doesn't show the minute or so prior to this, which probably indicated why the cops arrested the guy.

This clip has been repeatedly retweeted, with Antifa people stating that the innocent guy just wanted to go home, but the evil cops arrested him.

This would be just a typical example of expertly done pro-Antifa video editing, except that the videographer was Beth Nakamura, a reporter for the Oregonian, the "respectable" newspaper in town. Even Portland's big newspaper is pro-Antifa.

He told the owner of the civil engineering firm, where he had his first transportation planning job, what was going on in that department when he left. As a result the department, which was a new one, was shut down. Also, John went from being a hot prospect at various town planning divisions to not being able to get anyone to talk to him at all, most likely because the manager of the department had worked with CDOT for 20 years and knew *everyone*. It was pretty clear the word had gone out, probably that he wasn't a "team player" or something similar.

During one of John's subsequent accounting classes he realized that what had been going on in that department had been actual fraud that he and the other new guy may well have been on the hook for if they hadn't both bailed.

I applied for the FBI back in the 80's when Bill Sessions was Director. I entered into the application process with a law degree and a 5 year investigative history involving high level crisis/risk with Lloyd's of London. I had no skeletons in the closet. I didn't even get an interview. What I did get was to sit in a room and color in dots on some psychological test just after watching a video telling me how the FBI was focusing on hiring female and minority employees, and that special consideration would be given to their application. It was blatant.

I worked with somebody, a supervisor, who was constantly announcing whatever state she found herself in. "I'm hungry." "I'm tired," or warm or cold or this or that body part hurt. It was funny, in a way. You could always count on her giving a report on her internal workings.

But then when something didn't go her way, or someone disagreed with her, depending on whether that person was an underling or a superior, she'd turn into a petulant child, or a vicious, nasty parent.

So much pathology... but could be incredibly friendly and sweet too.

Guess her skin color. Kept failing upward, she did, but never stayed anywhere in any job too long.

This is a massive problem in our culture that is not relegated to only Michelle Obama.

The fact that if something happens to you, then it's some universal problem.

i.e. all those here just a few months ago who were bitching about a systemic problem with police, just because *they* had bad experiences with police.

Michelle Obama is doing the same thing here: because *she* had a bad experience with a white person, it means that white people don't respect black people.

That's quite a fucking jump.

Just look at the #MeToo movement and feminism in general. Because some women have had bad experiences with men, ALL men are evil, rapey assholes.

On a less serious scale, someone has a bad experience at a certain fast food joint in their area and now that entire fast food chain is terrible! Nevermind that there are likely 1000s of franchises in that chain and 75% of them produce excellent food. Nope. Doesn't matter. Fast food chain sucks, because a person had a bad experience at 1 of their 1000 locations.

None of that attitude is healthy, no matter to what subject it is applied.

It was pretty clear the word had gone out, probably that he wasn't a "team player" or something similar.

During one of John's subsequent accounting classes he realized that what had been going on in that department had been actual fraud that he and the other new guy may well have been on the hook for if they hadn't both bailed.

People have been pissing and moaning about the GOP has been abandoning NYS for years now. It is like most other states, rural/suburban is pretty red, cities are pretty blue. There's a therapeutic model called Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, with much of its focus on managing emotional dysregulation. Or learning how to not be a slave to one's emotions.

There's a saying used, something like "you may not have created the problems you have, and it's still your responsibility to fix them." Basically, look inside yourself for the solution, because constantly seeking resolution from the world is what has you so twisted all the time.

This is a primarily the treatment for Borderline Personality Disorder, and it's incredibly effective, when used with purpose and skill... and commitment from the person so suffering.

Our world is now one big BPD, and everyone is feeding the pathology. No one is telling these people "fix yourselves first."

Which is why the "let those cities burn" mantra too many people subscribe to is not the right attitude.

We can handle all of these people being in certain cities like Chicago, Seattle, Portland and NYC. We've accepted they're going to be Blue.

But if they start spreading out to other areas and bringing their voting habits with them, we're screwed.

Ace posted something within the last 2 weeks of one of his friend's analysis of the migration of people out of these cities being a good thing. I did not see the logic of it at all.

He claimed that people leaving Chicago was going to somehow help WI, MI and MN. The claim was that it was conservatives leaving and travelling to those states.

But why would conservatives go to Blue states of WI, MI and MN? Made no sense. More than likely the conservatives fleeing would go to Red states.

Quite possible the same could happen even with the affluent liberals fleeing. They could go to good Red states, but then turn them Blue with their liberal voting.

The Peterson family has been through hell. His wife (whom he met when they were both kids) had cancer, his daughter had a rare disease that makes joints slowly dissolve that she figured out how to eat to defeat.

I pray for them often, especially since he came out as a Christian. He's a remarkable man and well worth listening to. His daughter Mikalia (sp) is pretty good too. I've never heard anyone with such a high IQ speak. I find him fascinating and a force for Good in this world. He's a rare treasure.

Correcting for things that are relevant - family integrity, education level, etc - for those other things yields "rates" that are about the same, across "races". There are limited genetically-linked health problems/predispositions/diseases that align with "race", but a respiratory virus won't be one of them.

Somebody who's part of the permanent bureaucracy makes this stuff happen, and it bubbles up from wherever it does. Generally an initiative is somebody's brainchild, some of it coming from drones inside the agency, some from contractors and/or universities, and somebody somewhere gets their palms greased to implement this initiative.

It gets rubber stamped along the way, but for a lot of these things, even if they emerge from the morass "under this administration," they were working their way up for years, were in the funding from 2 or 3 "budgets" ago. Biannual funding, or even 5-10 year funding sources.

435 It varies from one government entity to another, but it's generally true that Secretaries don't really have that much ability to change things like this.

Somebody who's part of the permanent bureaucracy makes this stuff happen, and it bubbles up from wherever it does. Generally an initiative is somebody's brainchild, some of it coming from drones inside the agency, some from contractors and/or universities, and somebody somewhere gets their palms greased to implement this initiative.

It gets rubber stamped along the way, but for a lot of these things, even if they emerge from the morass "under this administration," they were working their way up for years, were in the funding from 2 or 3 "budgets" ago. Biannual funding, or even 5-10 year funding sources.
