Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Poll: Trump's Job Approval With Hispanics Rises in 2020Trump's approval rating with Hispanics is, as Trump might say, "Not the best. Really not great." But his approval rating with Hispanics was worse in 2016, and he won that election, even if the unhinged left and former Republicans-turned-hyperpartisan-liberals won't accept the results of that election. Democrats need minorities to vote hugely for them. They can't do with split decisions from Hispanics. Most of Trump's improved ratings come from Protestant Hispanics, which are only 23% of Hispanics. But even among Catholic Hispanics (49% of all Hispanics), his ratings have gone up slightly. Speaking of polling and voting: a friend floated a very counter-intuitive idea to me. Many people are abandoning California in droves. The geek vlogger Nerdorotic says there is a 2-3 month wait on renting moving trucks in the San Francisco area; he had to drive 90 minutes outside of town to get a free one. People are worried -- rightly -- that these people fleeing from blue areas will immediately vote blue and turn their new homes into shitholes indistinguishable from the last shithole they made. Now, this does seem to have happened in Nevada, where liberal Californians infested the place and turned it first purple and then blue. And it happened in Virginia. But my friend thinks in other places, immigration from one state to another may be increasing the conservative vote share in the states immigrated to. Here's his thoughts: I think a huge aspect of this election is being completely ignored and no one is attempting to report on it. I *think* it's a big Trump advantage, but I could be wrong. We are witnessing one of the largest internal migration events in American history, in an incredibly narrow window of time. To complicate matters, people who move still have their old cellphone numbers associated with their previous area codes, so polling catches very little of this. There's no way this doesn't have some effect on the election. If we look at previous migration patterns in recent history, particularly because of political self-sorting, this generally a net benefit to Republicans on the electoral map. The common belief here is that California -> Texas migration, for example, is "turning Texas blue". It isn't. It's keeping it red. The people that make that move are right-leaning by about a 2-to-1 ratio. Beto *won* native Texans in his race. It was the [state-to-state] migration that boosted Republicans. Same thing is happening in Florida, and I think the outmigration from Chicago is going to be a boost to Wisconsin, Minnesota, Michigan. I used to really worry about how blue state to red state migration would ruin the political makeup of red states. But it really doesn't. Because the people more motivated to move generally share our politics. What happens is it leaves reliably blue states even more blue. Just look at California. You can't even get a Republican on a ballot out there anymore. ... A really good example of this phenomenon is New Hampshire. The thinking was that all the Massholes were hopping the border and starting to vote blue. That wasn't the case. Mass and CT voters, skewing heavily red, hopped the border and allowed the state to continue to be reasonably competitive. It was the NH natives in the northern counties who started voting more and more Democrat, matching the rest of the region. This 2013 article buttresses his claim that California-to-Texas migration is generally conservative. And this 2018 article says that Beto O'Rourke, shockingly, did win a majority of native Texans, while recent immigrants to the state gave Ted Cruz the win. I don't mind the idea of all conservative/productive people fleeing these shitholes and leaving dying blue husks behind. It'll make the inevitable division of the country that much easier, and that much more inevitable. Interesting stuff. I hope he's right. Comments(Jump to bottom of comments)1

People who flee a blue State hell to a red State and then vote for the same shit they were fleeing are called locusts. Like the locust swarms of old after devastating a field of crops go to new one and devastate it too. The only defense against this is to increase drastically the in State time required to vote. I think this theory is correct
Here in Northern Nevada, 10-20 years ago we got the liberal influx from a California which turned our state purple/blue. Of course California was a different place just a decade ago. Now it truly is a shithole and the sane Californians are getting out. They see where the progressives are taking that state. NV has a lot of Independents and voted in a bunch of Dems two years ago. Only the Sec of State if Republican. Most of the transplant Californians I meet now seem more conservative. They see what has happened to Cali so they sell their shack for $1 million and move here with cash to buy. Housing prices have skyrocketed in the last few years. They are usually retired for kid who just want to live a nice life and not pay 1/2 of there income to their tyrannical State. Illegal immigration has also helped turn this state purple/blue, but Mexicans are being deported. And the Unions in Vegas control that city., unfortunately. But Sisolak, the Horrible Dem Governor has pissed off many Nevadans with his shutdown. Trump could win here. Now we just have to defeat the Vote by Mail fiasco. The perennial yet not very documented discussion here.
Anecdata tells me that 100% of the people I know who have fled/are planning to flee CA are scary racist right-wing death beasts, Trump voters, bigly. Most of them gun nuts. To NV, AZ, TX, ID. No exceptions, not a Coastal Clueless "lib" among them. And ace I'm not so sure about NV. NV Morons might be able to correct me, but Clark County has a Dem/labor union machine that now has taken over the state. Don't know if any of that has to do with CA in-migration. Guys I know who fled to AZ are now somewhat in despair - their governor is a disaster, and the AZ GOP may be the most useless in the country, a weird mix of family machines and 1970s country-clubber-mindset. Gunz are off-limits, but little else seems to be (AZ has among the most incompetent and dishonest and irresponsible public health departments, as demo'd during the current national debacle - a very, very, very high bar). Florida seems to be trending red - not the other way - as more Northeasterners flee to the Sunshine state. I fled from Austin to a more conservative community a few years ago. There seems to be an accelerating self-segregation of people by political identity. Anecdote - my buddy moved his family from the Bay Area in California to outside Charlotte, NC last year. They're Catholic and couldn't even talk about their religion in public because they'd be accosted. Add in that they could buy, outright, a 4,000 square foot house with the gains from their 1,200 square foot townhouse (which having a yard has been a huge blessing during these times).
ZERO chance they vote anything other than straight Republican ticket this year. Trump votes: -2 California (going blue no matter who) +2 NC (swingish state) Posted by: Memories at August 21, 2020 06:26 PM (mwcEF) 80

I follow a blog of a guy that moved his whole family out of Southern Californai two years ago. He's a conservative gun guy. One set of comments had four people from WA state planning to leave. And I see comments from Californians in other posts, talking about leaving. We all have no say in our states. There is one party only and no way to get them out of office. Czech Chick, I have NV as second or third mostly like Trump pick-up this cycle (after NH, MN). Very doable.
My impression, partly buttressed by direct info from somebody who lives in Clark County, is that much of the Dem machine vote there is "culturally conservative" - they're middle and working class, not suburban libs, not even close. One reason Trump did well there last time, and may well win it this time. A steady stream of firearms businesses has left SoCal, I know several that relocated to northern NV. These people are, obviously, not turning NV "purple" or "blue". Posted by: rhomboid at August 21, 2020 06:29 PM (OTzUX) 96
Re: Cruz
The highest, and best, use for Ted Cruz is on the Supreme Court. He'll never be president - and I say that having voted for him in the CA primary over DJT. I think of a single piece of legislation that he's championed in the Senate, other than some bipartisan piece of nonsense that went nowhere, I think. While Cornyn will win his seat in a cakewalk, Cruz will have trouble keeping his next time when some Beto II Electric Boogaloo Dem gets tons of outside money to run against him again. I like the guy, but it seems like none of his colleagues and fewer of his constituents like him for some reason that I can't fathom. Someone needs to get to him and tell him what the future really holds for the guy if he holds onto this aspiration of his, and when Trump offers him a seat (again), he needs to accept. Czech Chick, Reid was probably the most right-wing (seriously) of the western/mountain Dems, up until some time in the 90s. Worked in the Senate for years - apart from local/regional practical issues, which of course is the case for all senators, Reid was just an assumed vote for the GOP side on a wide range of issues, and this during the "contentious" Reagan years. Then again, so were several southern and border state Dems. But Reid's transformation into a ruthless/disgusting hit man for the far left is stunning. That statement by Biden on "the virus" is just so spectacularly scientifically illiterate.
Tragically, it proceeds from the same basic premise now wrecking much of the country at the state level, and, even worse, implicit or explicit in the WH task force positions. Basic epidemiology and virology have been systematically abandoned by most of the "public health" establishment, world-wide. This is much scarier and more astonishing than I think is widely recognized. Posted by: rhomboid at August 21, 2020 06:46 PM (OTzUX) 181

Ammo factories are running 24X7 and NOT keeping up with demand. Where exactly is all the ammo going? I hope to responsible gun owners, but I figure much of it will be to idiots. Posted by: Martini Farmer at August 21, 2020 06:01 PM (3H9h1) --------- You get a new gun, you are going to need ammo, otherwise why buy it? A glock 17? You need a 50 round box just to fill three magazines. You get two boxes and go to the range. Likely you come back dry. So you need another box or six. That is where a lot of this ammo is going. Your average gun owner goes through less than a box of ammo a year. Suddenly they realize they need more than that half box of .30-06 hunting ammo from 3 years ago if things go sideways. Minden is where 2 of the gun businesses I knew were moving.
And for .380 prices, I think it is of course a simple supply/demand issue, and for that caliber, the supply is much tighter. Don't have the figures, but confident that the run of that caliber is much smaller than that for 9mm or 45ACP, possibly even 38 special. The ammo makers aren't stupid, but it's capital intensive, and they wisely refrained from adding to capacity recklessly during the Obama panics (there has been expansion, but I think in line with market forecasts). I would have thought that sales of .380 pistols would already have led to expanded runs of that caliber. But it's an industry that doesn't turn on a dime, they probably have been increasing .380 production in line with projected gun sales, but got caught with a mega-panic. conservatives have to win Hispanics, at some point. And along with that migt be winning more of the Catholic church, including white American Catholics, and maybe we could do better with black Baptists as well. Christianity and Communism are polar opposites ... free will of the individual versus forced state control and forced submission ... to the state.
GOPe has been serving BigCorp and MIC ... and yielding on our basic liberties. Trump and others are flipping that narrative ... to some degree. For those with a new .380, bite the bullet (sorry) and get a few boxes - IF you really want it now. That'll be close to 1/3 or 1/2 what you paid for the gun. If you can wait, wait a bit. Prices will ease. At the moment .380 online is as expensive as deer-hunting rifle ammo. That will not last for too long, I don't think.
If it were legal and wise, I'd make some ammo for the Horde myself - just got my .380 dies last week. As I said, assess your needs, and wait if you can to stock up. I you need *something* now, just buy a little. Yesterday I continued my random, controlled trial (well, more like a totally anecdotal and non-scientific) survey of shooters at the range - who's a first time shooter? who's a first-time gun-owner? Numbers were much higher than last month. It serves a practical purpose - I make sure the newbies get a direct recitation of basic safe practices and etiquette, as they're not all obvious (handling firearms during a cease-fire, and carrying uncased guns to the line from vehicles or elsewhere, are the biggest problem). But I'm also doing it to assess other things. Obviously BLM and the current Dems are even better gun salesmen than Obama was, which is saying something. "No property tax for over 65??? Didn't know that. Makes helluva lot of sense to me since most of those taxes go to public schools."
REDUCED property tax for over 65. Actually, the appraised value of a senior's "homestead" is capped and adjusted so that the tax rate affects that homeowner /taxpayer/voter less than younger families. Seniors still pay property tax. Given that seniors tend to own more valuable properties than younger families, they may still pay more. Texas is going through a real struggle in which the legislature keeps trying things to cap or rein in the tax RATE (the percentage charged against the value of residential property) while the counties keep boosting the appraised VALUE of properties (against which the rates are applied.) As long as values rise faster than rates are reduced, the resulting taxes keep increasing. Posted by: pouncer at August 21, 2020 07:08 PM (Jjybm) 313

That is the way it is in Alabama. Posted by: Case at August 21, 2020 07:05 PM (w+1zw) It is just a discount though because you still have to pay the county and city millage. Posted by: Grump928(C) at August 21, 2020 07:17 PM (yQpMk) 324

the migrants are going suburban or rural. I envisioned them moving to the cockroach urban cities. Posted by: Braenyard at August 21, 2020 07:17 PM (n2iqw) Posted by: Braenyard at August 21, 2020 07:19 PM (n2iqw) 326
251 247 AlaBAMA - several states have been losing reps for a while, NY among them. With the seats moving, generally, south. After this census, will likely happen some more. I'm sure there are good projections of this, but I haven't looked for them.
Posted by: rhomboid at August 21, 2020 06:57 PM (OTzUX) That was my guess too. Posted by: AlaBAMA at August 21, 2020 06:57 PM (6hvzW) Yes, but . . . if President Trump can win on the allocation, a question that will surely go all the way to the Supreme Court (and we all know what peril that entails) so that noncitizens are not counted for purposes of allocation, then the states that have the most illegals and may lose seats are California, Texas, Arizona, and Florida. I have not seen any speculation of which states gain seats as a result. Probably not New York, for sure. It's reasonable to ask how the Census Bureau will know who isn't a citizen, since it was not allowed to ask. it turns out that they already have a pretty good list, due to DACA and driver's license databases. Those states that have been giving driver's licenses to illegals (California, New York) have been identifying who to exclude from the count. Is the list perfect? Of course not, but it's a good start. silver bullets to kill zombies, or werewolves? I forget ... but silver prices are high now, so even the silver plated 38 ammo is expensive, I guess. Then there is the Coors silver bullet ... because they were early in using aluminum cans? They were also early in being Woke maybe ... earning them the Qu**r Beer nickname, back when it could only be bought west of the Mississippi.

The census. Lots of people are moving from blue states and NOT FILLING OUT THE CENSUS. This will be a long-term impact that I bet Trump has already gamed out. Watch. Posted by: Joseph at August 21, 2020 07:28 PM (KTq2u) 331
$1k/month? That's freakin' highway robbery. No way I would ever live in a state like that.
Posted by: Ace's liver at August 21, 2020 07:10 PM (wGeit) Before PDT, they deducted all of it and all of the state income tax. So you DID pay it, insofar as IF these blue-state preference deductions had been eliminated AND everyone's tax rate had been adjusted DOWNWARD accordingly (Fed income neutral), then your rate would have gone down. It basically is and was (overall) a red to blue transfer? Posted by: Gilded Age II, the sequel at August 21, 2020 07:28 PM (BRkq2) 332
I've one quibble with Ace on the inevitable divide:
If we are going to have a national divorce, why should the libs get so much good real estate? I'm against the "Let them have the coast and drive it into the ground" I prefer the "Round 'em up and deport them to Baja California" plan. And on the East Coast, send them running up to Canada. Just like in the American revolution. Canada will welcome them, as it welcomed the Tories -- and why not? Lots of money, lots of political capital. And there will be a surprisingly large number of North Easterners that are happy to embrace the new conservative tone of Northeast politics. Posted by: Joseph at August 21, 2020 07:28 PM (KTq2u) Who would be surprised at a high percentage of double voting in such cases? I hope PDT is going to restore the census to its integrity (or attempt at integrity) too. Recall one of SCoaMF's first moves was to order privileged demographics to be overweighted. In other words, he falsified the numbers. Posted by: Gilded Age II, the sequel at August 21, 2020 07:32 PM (BRkq2) 334

Has there every been such a massive migration in a census year? Now we will have 10 years of over representation for these moribund blue husks...
One little bit of civil disobedience I didn't think of till after I filled out the form: red voters in blue states not answering the census. Posted by: Suetonius at August 21, 2020 07:36 PM (7o+WD) 336
The Hispanics that "conservatives" have been so eager to let into the country for so long are going to do the exact same thing to Texas as they did to California. Always remember (not that it would've altered things too much since the damage has long been done), when Trump was elected the Republicans controlled each branch of the government and they accomplished a meaningless symbolic gesture in Israel that means nothing to Americans and they barely cut taxes--that's it. No wall, no deportations, nothing. That's the legacy of the Republican party.

Ace,
Your friend is onto something. My family is looking to move to South Carolina from a blue state after the last six months of stupidity. My wife asked a fair question the other day - why are we the only ones moving? Answer - because the rest of our social circle is fine with living like idiots in the name of science. We aren't. We're also one of the few Trump fans and Republican voters in our social circle up here. Posted by: Stephen at August 21, 2020 07:54 PM (pDXqw) 339
Democrats were completely okay with their voter base trashing cities in the name of BLM because they figured it may turn off some white voters, because to them who cares, but what they fail to understand, since most of them only know a Hispanic if it's the help, is that they are far more family values oriented and they tend to be more outwardly hostile towards African Americans. Democrats are staking their future on splitting our country in two, ignoring that it's going to be a 80/20 split against their radical ideas.

Your friend is right.
I am a recent migrant to central TX (for college). Many of the recent migrants I meet are from purplish or at least nominally Dem-dominated states, and to a man did not move here for "cultural" reasons. They didn't come here because they wanted to be Instagram influencers or woke-judge-show TV writers. The people to whom that's important tend to stay in their home base. Just anecdotal, I know. Posted by: Swamposphere at August 21, 2020 08:27 PM (osuON) 341
However-- Virginia & N. Carolina are obvious counter-examples to the phenomenon you're describing.

I have given up on moving from CA to AZ. Why uproot my family when AZ is turning into a Mini Cal?
My theory is that the GOP shuts its mouth and cashes in on all the programs from the state and the feds. They are happy enough with tax credits and other bribes. So they run people who will never win. Why rock the boat? Posted by: PJ at August 21, 2020 08:43 PM (qlTN9) 343
I'm a conservative who left CA for Western NC bringing 2 other Trump voters with me. So happy to escape and be able to vote in a purple state where I can help make a difference!

It was the [state-to-state] migration that boosted Republicans. Same thing is happening in Florida, and I think the outmigration from Chicago is going to be a boost to Wisconsin, Minnesota, Michigan. Not seeing the logic here at all. Why would anyone trying to leave a Democrat shithole like Chicago choose to move to Democrat-run states like Wisconsin, Minnesota or Michigan? I could see the opposite happening for Wisconsin, Minnesota and Michigan. Wisconsin and Michigan went Red in 2016 by the thinnest of margins. If GOP-voters in Michigan decided to say fuck-it, bye-bye to Half-Whitmer and reliably blue Michigan, then that turns the state from +10,700 Trump to likely back to Blue again in November. Same holds true for Wisconsin. Which was also solidly Democrat from 2000-2012. And Minnesota, Wisconsin and Michigan all elected Democrat Governors after 2016. So those states could all be going back to Blue in November if GOP-voters moved out of those states. Posted by: Clyde Shelton at August 21, 2020 08:56 PM (Do5/p) 346
I am a proud Ohioan! My move was from the suburbs of Cincinnati to a rural burg east of Columbus! All my neighbors have guns, lots of 'em...and Skyline Chili is the best of all of them, Empress, Gold Star, Dixie, Price Hill, etc...and I will crawl on broken glass with bare feet as will my wife, daughter/son in law, and son to vote for Trump! Now just need to get an AR-15 with MLOK

Georgia is purple now because of all the Yankees that have moved here. It is not because our natives still listen to Alabama and assume Daddy is a Southern Democrat.

On August 7, we left Sacramento, CA for San Antonio, TX. We'd already purchased a home on the "far west" outskirts of the city. California had just gotten too weird and twisted to stay any longer.
I didn't vote for Trump in 2016, but I intend to correct that error by voting for him this year. Posted by: Kenneth Mitchell at August 21, 2020 10:51 PM (qrbPd) 349
Couple of points: Driving around west Michigan, maybe twenty-five miles sort of between the burbs and the country. Four Trump signs. One Biden sign. Lots and lots of Old Glory.
And worse for dems; six "Now Hiring" signs. On another blog, I believe, a guy said his rural county had an immigrant from Chicago who couldn't stand the way the city was run. She spearheaded an effort to ban agricultural equipment from county roads. Hope she doesn't run into a disker while jogging....
