If the armed forces use it, I as a citizen should be allowed to use it. I define "arms" very broadly. If I want to install landmines on my property, why should I not be allowed to so long as I follow the applicable conventions (e.g., putting up fences and placards)? If I want to stock up on RPGs, why should I not be allowed to? If I want to buy a fully-functioning tank or artillery, why should not I be allowed to? These things are egregious cost centers and most won't ever do it, but they should be *allowed* to do so.
The purpose of keeping and bearing arms is, at its core, to defend one's self against the state. I should not be legally restricted from reaching parity if needed in the hypothetical case where I can afford it.

As an individual who respects and supports the 2nd amendment, it is clear to me that it was formulated to protect me against the tyranny ofnindividuals and of government, if it got so bad.
An individual cannot afford to feed automatic weapons at 400 to 600 rounds per minute. Good for suppression fire, but there is no substitute for good marksmanship.
Platforms like the AR-15 or M1A are great semi-auto platforms to defend yourself and your family. A good marksman can call his or her shots without the spray and pray of automatic weapons.

I agree. The main reason for the 2nd amendment was so that the people could remove the government if it stopped obeying the constitution (and hence, them). Restricting that in any way means the state is weakening their foes.

Yes, you should. Same with atomic weapons. This is, essentially, a self-limiting problem for two reasons in our system. First, it is shockingly expensive. We often talk about countries that could easily have nukes but choose not to - countries like Korea and Japan. Why not? Because they're expensive. They're too expensive to keep as a hobby. In our country, which - present troubles notwithstanding - is quite peaceful, there would be no demand. On the other side, like large stockpiles of explosive materials, this needn't be regulated as a weapon. It can be - and is - regulated as industrial product that is highly dangerous. That's the reason for the compliance piece in my example about land mines. I can install them, but I'd damn well better put up fences and placards. If I don't, it brings up the second piece.
That second piece is liability. We have very strong liability laws, customs and protections in this country. If I do something stupid and I kill someone, it's over for me. Period. I'm going down and I will be ruined. Self-preservation has a lot to do with self-control. And anyone in the position to be able to afford the more exotic manifestations of a truly unregulated arms market is extremely unlikely to lack self control and self preservation. If they that much, they have a lot to lose, too.
It isn't perfect. Accidents could and would happen. It is possible that derangement and evil could lead to non-accidental bad outcomes, too. I acknowledge that. I do think that, on balance, the arms market should be open regardless. I do not think that the risks of an open market for arms exceeds the risk of oppression that we see writ large in every respect when arms are restricted.

If I hit the lottery, most of the money will go to a charity. Controlled by me. With dead beat family members as charity workers, and the good family members on a board that has charity board meetings and charity investment meetings in very nice places.
And a classy office where I can hang out all day and used to entice more charity money from the public.
We would even probably do more honest charity work than most charities.

Those are good points, and the point I was trying to make is that no society can allow weapons with which the society itself can be held hostage. Guns can be matched with other guns, but materials needed to build car bombs can not, and those have to be restricted. The cities in the middle east which have ineffective governments which control nothing, and they end up with dysopian hellholes, places like Beirut where 300,000 people can become homeless in an instant because of a screwup. That's a risk that a sane society won't tolerate.
Also, with respect to landmines, that's the same category as trip guns. You would need signs all around such a property saying "IF THIS HOUSE CATCHES FIRE LET IT BURN!!!! ALL FIRE DEPARTMENT PERSONNEL WILL BE KILLED IF THEY ATTEMPT TO PUT ANY FIRE OUT!"

It's really weird when that "who's the president" part gets damaged. My dad had a grievous head injury some time ago and he was in a coma for a couple of weeks (the latter part was drug-induced on purpose to keep him safe). As he started to come to, he thought it was 1982 (the last time he had a major hospitalization). All of his answers were very consistent with 1982. President, where he was living, his siblings' ages, his children's names (except mine, since I wasn't born yet), all of it. Over the next week or so, he caught back up to present day.
It was spooky.

I understand, I am just saying that everything is a tradeoff and has a balance between conflicting priorities. At some point people are willing to give up freedoms. I think any further limiting of guns is stupid since without concealed carry, semi-auto, etc. you can not defend yourself and you are fully reliant on the state, while not affecting the criminals at all since they can and will break those laws.
But an RPG gives me little additional self defense, and creates the problem of fear of others --- and that gives the state more power since only they can protect me. (an rpg v. rpg battle is not a situation most people want to be on the "defense" side of.)

Please consider a reasonable modification to your stance while we remain marginally at peace: weapons deployed should require an aim and click so that only defense and not murder results. If a parachutist with a foiled chute lands, or a child wanders into your mind field, you could be guilty of murder, and we don't want that.

I'm not sure I get the brand loyalty concept here.
Handguns are sorta like the Harry Potter wand choosing concept: The gun chooses the shooter, the shooter does not choose the gun.
I find it somewhat disappointing, the different handguns that aren't right for me, but so be it. It's a tool. I need to be able to swing it when the time comes.

protection. Start small get them comfy. Work up to bigger things. Last
time i took a new shooter he started with a .22 and was not afraid of
the 45. Started with a 22 rifle ... Then an ar. Then 7.62x54. On to

First, he argues the 2nd is not limitless. His evidence is SCOTUS has allowed limitations.
Second, he chooses random features of any gun other than a standard shotgun and claims it's not necessary.
Third, he asserts his bona fides by pointing out he and his sons own shotguns and his sons hunt.

Letting media think he's a fool, and wins those states by 80,000 votes courtesy of Chris Wallace.

ProTips for idiots like him:
1) An assault weapon is not a WMD.
WMDs are clearly defined - usually nuclear, biological, chemical. By Wallace's logic a A-10 Warthog close air support plane is a "weapon of mass destruction". Hell, my LAV-25 firing 200 rounds per minute of 25mm (bullet size of a 20oz coke bottle) of high explosive incendiary ammo the explodes on impact in a 20 meter radius is a "weapon of mass destruction). It's FAR more lethal than any "assault weapon".
2) An AR-15 rifle is not an assault weapon. It may look black and scary, but it is not capable of firing on burst like it's sister, the M-16A2. I don't even think the M-16A2 is an "assault weapon", which as defined by anti-gun idiots is "anything black that looks scary".
What Wallace has done is double dip into hyperbole. Bad enough he did it once, but then he dipped the HYPERBOLE itself back in for another hyperbolic coating. It's the rhetorical equivalent of dividing by zero, and reveals him to be an utter fool and a complete moron.

Hate to say it but... the answer is a few posts up by Weird Dave of all people:

When even he can be seduced by the culture, anyone even partly "wobbly" will be. Did you compromise when you bought your house? Pick a place a little too tight and too pricey when you could afford something nicer, because you wanted to be in a good school district for your kid's education?
It's the same forces at play, only worse, as alot of people are willing to compromise their intellectual integrity to adopt politics they don't believe as a Virtue Flag that allows them to enjoy CULTURE. Go along to get along, leave the MAGA hat at home so the waiter doesn't spit in your food.
