What this is, is the ultimate no-blink showdown between new tech and the hyper-left California government.

It will not be until about 9:30am tomorrow morning that the California legislature will really understand that this is serious, when 100,000 liberal employees will find themselves stranded and unable to go to work. it will come as a shock. The other reason this happened is because the Taxi companies in LA and San Fran may not seem huge, but they provide very big kickbacks and other payments to all the top California dems - and they've been doing this for years. Uber and Lyft were cutting into their profit margins massively, which is why they *wanted* them to be shut down. People like Newsom and the rest had to choose between voters and the people who very reliably line the pockets of him and all his pals with lots and lots of cash - and he made his choice.

oh yeah there is going to be hell to pay. I am awaiting it with a smile on my face!

Then the cop gets a call on something really important. He took my driver's license and told us to stay put. Soon as he drove off, my friend jumps out and starts frantically digging a hole by the road with his bare hands, and stashes a bag of drugs. Cop came back half an hour later, handed me my license, said his other matter was more important and to go straight home, he had my address and would check later, and drove off. Whew!

One big problem USPS is having is with a mail delivery system called Mail Innovations, in which UPS and FedEx hand packages off to them for the "final mile", so to speak. But things go haywire at that point and lots of packages sit around for days or weeks or get lost entirely.

Something like that happened to me way back when in college - giving rides to people I didn't really know. I was driving to Houston in my old Torino with the 4bbl 302 in it, and my roommate plus a couple guys I didn't know said they'd pay for my gas if I gave them a ride, I said sure, hop in. So we were headed down old 2 lane hwy 6, there was a nice long stretch where I could see forever, lots of traffic in front but nobody oncoming, and I decided to show off and pass 9 cars at once. Which I did, and it bothered my passengers a bit more than I expected. Then one of them said "man you probably don't want to get pulled over right now" and he pulled a full pound of weed out from under my seat, where he'd stashed it. I drove a lot more sedately the rest of the way.

That final mile probably ends up being the most costly and labor-intensive aspect of delivery. So USPS bargained for this, but did not bargain hard enough for compensation to cover their costs, and the U.S. taxpayer is paying Amazon, UPS, and FedEx subsidies through USPS taxpayer aid.

Trump should renegotiate this in his second term. USPS is supposed to be self-funding.

Someone needs to ask them: If you abolish prisons, as promised, and ban private ownership of guns, as promised, how are you going to punish people who refuse to turn in their guns? Only time I ever have has been when I handed over my CHL with the driver's license. It's happened twice and I don't get stopped all that often so it's a statistically strong correlation. But it's not nothing either.

Never got out of a ticket from the state troopers when I worked Corrections.

484 The post office is overwhelmed by packages and looses money on every one from Amazon because of the deal struck during the Reign of Error.
The people out doing the deliveries are having to work longer hours and are I have literally seen so many packages loaded in teh delivery trucks that they fall on the drivers.
In my town both UPS and Fed Ex deliver to the post office which then drops them at the homes.
The only thing I've purchased from Amazon was A H Lloyd's book on the Spanish Civil War.
Black Rifle Coffee comes from those guys, no one else.

I've gotten out of a couple of 'em. In both cases when the officer told me how fast I was going I responded "I'm sure that's correct". One even told me I was the only person to not argue with him.

That whole thing is so insanely true. I'm thinking of my younger relatives, who never vote and beg for relief if I so much as listen to Scott Adams.

When they can't Uber home from a night of Mojitos, they're going to be a bit bewildered and amazed that anyone could take their rides away.

Somehow I don't see them taking political action and I wonder who will?

491 I got out of a ticket in Mid-May. I was speeding and got pulled over. I turned on the interior lights, and opened the windows.

When the Deputy Sheriff came up I said "I know that I was speeding. It's been a long day and I wanted to get home."

He asked for license and registration and went away for a while.

He came back and said "Mr. ------ I am giving you a warning."

I said "Thank you sir. I really appreciate it."

498 I got 4 tickets on one stop by a cop that gives all cops a bad name. It was a on a leisurely Sunday drive to the Home Depot. No rush. Car in front of me was going to make a right turn so I moved into the left lane of this two lane same direction road and then moved back afterwards. Shortly after I get pulled over and I haven't a clue why. The cop comes to my window and the first thing I tell him is I'm a CHL holder and I'm carrying. He responded 'yeah so what ?' And that officer is when the fun began.

I think the newer GM cars will link to your smart phone and mirror on the car screen that which is on your phone.
I just got a phone/tablet/phablet and mounted it on a stalk to act as nav system. T-Mobil/sprint is the carrier; $50 for the 8" wide phablet, $25/month for the extra unit on the plan. Only problem is with my polarized sunglasses, I can't see the screen.
