Weird German grocery with big "masks-required" signs on the door, est. 60% masks (customers).

They were happy, smiling, no masks. Dang! They' busting' my stereotyping! (Almost wanted to ask them, Trump, Biden, or other? I didn't. Why spoil the moment?)
Reminded me that, before the outbreak of Trump derangement and masque fascism, people like that used to be sort-of admirable for being rebellious liberal free spirits. Sometimes somewhat.

Talked toe the Superintendent about that. Then the head of the School Board came over.
After some tense discussion, I asked her if there was a peer-reviewed double blind study on the effectiveness of masks? She said no.
I said, without that your mask requirements, are not science, but superstition. She has the totally power to impose what she has done. We had it out. I have common sense reasons to not always comply.
We shall see if I am fired. I'm in good with my neighbor School Board member, and OK with another. But not the head School Board member with her 5 year plans.

It's going to put a damper on Newsom's usual "California is better than all you other states" speech at the DNC this week.
This has been one of the most predicted crises in history.
California has been happily closing nuclear and fossil power plants, and has been "replacing" that power with wind and (especially) solar. Since California is run by environmentalists, installing natural gas plants to back the wind and solar up is forbidden.
Two slight problems with this cunning plan:
1) The wind doesn't blow when it's really hot, so all the wind farms are useless in heat waves.
2) Solar does great in a heat wave - until the sun sets. Unfortunately, on a hot day, electrical demand doesn't start really falling off until several hours after sunset. So, you need to find a whole lot of power quickly when the sun sets.
What California has been relying on are the Pacific Northwest dams ramping up when the sun sets.
However, there are two problems with that:
1) When the heat wave is West Coast-wide (like now), the Northwest doesn't have a lot of power to sell.
2) Longer-term, the environmentalists have convinced Oregon and Washington to adopt renewable energy requirements similar to California's, so over time, a larger and larger share of the Northwest dams are going to have to back up Northwest wind and solar, leaving less and less power for California.
Berberich is retiring at the end of September - I'm sure he's glad to get out of there.

To Windows haters out there: all I can say is I have never, ever had a problem with Win 10 before, and I have several critical Win apps which have no Linux port. I've got three Win 10 machines, and four Linux machines, and am at home in both worlds. I developed Linux apps before I retired four years ago. So my position on the OS wars is: BOTH.
I do recommend that you all make sure you have current backups (disk or cloud) in case something like this happens to you. And take the time to do a Windows Defender full scan, and a WD offline scan.

Sat night around 8:30, there was a transformer fire a block away killing the power to our neighborhood until about 4 today, when we were conveniently also being hit with a rolling black out. And 95-100 degree heat and a wildfire turning the sky brown. Sat night there was a severe thunder storm (which we never get, once every few YEARS) and it literally lasted from 2am to 6am. Super crazy all around. The lightening started a few more fires to grassland and an apartment.
I can't say "the end times"... but "the end times."
It just keeps getting better...

But they ACT confident. And women who want to mate will jump at either an alpha, or a Sigma (think alpha with no pack).
I'm a Sigma. I don't like leading, although Betas and such always look to me as a leader.
Key is to be attentive, but NOT desperate. Its a hard line to follow, but it works.
I guess the first realization you need to make, is that EVERYONE is screwed up, just like you are. Everyone has their crosses to bear. Everyone has had their challenges.
So if everyone is screwed up, then why define YOURSELF as a screwup?

I might agree with you except I know that in every election, especially in Oregon and Washington, a minimum of 5% of votes cast for Dems are fraudulent. So they easily make up their loss to the Green party with fraud.

If it's supposed to be a frost free model, make sure the heating element didn't quit. Had one do that to me twice in a two year stretch. Found a dual element replacement and didn't have to replace it for at least 12 years. Then I sold the house and left it there.

Got all the fittings out of the twin air tanks for the air brakes on the Flxible coach. And cut the bung out of the end of one of them. Looking inside, by way of the bungholes (low floater alert), they aren't that bad inside, could be safely used, I think. But I have a single 11-gallon tank teed up that will replace them, and be able to mount it it standing upright in the back left corner of the engine compartment, so it is away from road splash.
The bung cut out of the old tank will get welded into the new one, so it will have 4 bungs: line in from compressor, line out to brake valves, drain and accessory air chuck at the bottom, and safety valve and small line to compressor unloader on one side.

I would be in favor of Alberta, Saskatchewan, Northwest Territory, and Yukon all being absorbed into the USA. That would give an All-American land route to Alaska, and you would get the majority of conservative-minded Canadians. And a metric fuck-ton of resources, including the largest single source of uranium. That's the "Kreem" tank sealing system. Works well, but the buyer is well advised to *know* how many gallons of tank is in question, before buying.
They're pretty damn exact in their volume to square inches of coverage calculations, and you'd really rather be pouring a bit of surplus out of the tank, vs. not having quite enough to thoroughly coat all that needs coating.
Oh, and work quickly. That shit sets up faster than you think.

I would be very leery of applying any lining to the interior of an air tank for an air brake system. Should the lining flake or peel off, shreds could find their way into the valves, and cause brake failure.
If the "new" tank has any appreciable scale in it, I will dump in a couple of pounds of random nuts and bolts, some washing soda, and some water. Run a long rod through the end bungs, and tow it behind my golf cart like a sod roller, make a couple of orbits around the yard. Should make it sparkle inside. A splash of Metal-Prep (dilute phosphoric acid), and clean water rinse should make the interior surface rust-resistant, without any coating to flake off.

You could have dependable food refrigeration for the expense of a half-hour's work every day. Probably would not be impossible to build a solar oven to provide the heat needed to recharge the device.

I cobbed together a similar thing to scrub in new fork springs, so that they would not squeak/squeal as new after-market springs often do.
Length of steel pipe with endcaps, which was rotated on rollers by a small gearmotor. Running through the length of pipe was a rod with stops on it. The rod was driven by another gearmotor with an eccentric arm.
The result was that the spring was scrubbed back and forth in the rotating pipe, into which I poured a bit of Brasso. Worked good. Just broke/polished the outer edges of the coils.
The best part, of course, was being able to walk away and let the machine do the work.

I wish I could say there was something great out there, but every gas tank I see with that "coating" just never seems to hold up, and its a mess. The very last one I saw was peeling around the entire upper part of the tank, and it ended up looking like somebody laid a huge piece of old pink rubber raincoat inside the tank and is just floating around. Another broke loose around the filler area and just started drooping bad enough to where it almost closed off the filler. You could have easily pumped gas between the coating and tank instead of *in* the tank if you weren't careful. It seems the gas always finds a way under it and breaks it loose somewhere. I never used the shit in any form, because there never seems to be happiness with the bikes I run across that have it.

I have been cleaning small metal parts, up to say six-inch U-bolts, by throwing them into a small cement mixer with a couple of gallons of water and some washing soda. It takes off rust; it takes off paint; it takes off grease, and it doesn't do great violence to threaded parts. About an hour's tumbling does just fine. Rinse parts in fresh water, lay out in the Sun to dry. Most stuff comes out ready to use, or ready to paint. And damaged parts, the damage is now readily visible, so they can be discarded without a qualm.

I have used Eastwood fuel tank liner on the fuel tank for a '40 Studebaker Champion. That tank was in real tough shape. But: fuel tanks aren't under pressure, and you normally have filters in line between the tank and the engine; often more than one.
AFAIK, they don't have filters in air brake systems. I will have to ask about that, and if there is an approved filter available, I will get one.

That's been around for donkey's years. The '59 Chevy's had an "X" frame, so they uniquely susceptible to damage from a front quartering collision. They set that "crash" up to match the weak point in the '59 with the strong point in the '09.
Most other cars in the late '50's had either a perimeter frame or a ladder frame that was less susceptible to such damage.

Time for an extemporaneous exposition on LD50. I'm not going to rely on sources, but my memory.
LD50 refers to a (l)ethal (d)ose of any substance, when given to a random selection of human recipients.
Per this formulation, 50% of the human recipients will die from that dose.
But. This formulation makes no account of a built up tolerance level.
In the case of Floyd, it was reported that he had a 5x LD50 level of fentanyl in his bloodstream when he died.
And to an ordinary human with no fentanyl tolerance, he should be dead 2 times over. But what if he was a regular abuser, and had built up a tolerance? That LD50 might be 10 times the normal lethal amount. Maybe more.
It's not like the FDA can do these tests on humans, seeking more accurate LD50s. So they do the tests on rats. With no built up tolerances.
And this is how reporting can be bent in a different direction from reality. The reporter isn't "lying", technically, just not including contrary facts.
