I always post these late in the day. Here's an earlier one.

A feminist outrage farmer demands that men stop working out, so that their testosterone will fall and they'll be sissies. (Update: Commenters tell the whole site is a parody.)

She even recommends castration.

The Bulwark agrees with this sentiment!

Toxic masculinity refers to the cultural norms in a patriarchal society that equates masculinity with control, aggression and violence. Men are conditioned from a young age to believe that emotion, compassion and empathy are somehow "unmanly".
One of the main tactics used by those in power of a male-driven society is the exploitation of physical strength. Western governments use propaganda to perpetuate a narrative that men must work out and maintain a level of physical fitness if they want to be respected in society. This belief was created purposefully as a way to ensure that the patriarchal agenda lives on by continuing to force women into submission via intimidation.
Women are, on average, intellectually superior to men.

Obviously. A quick review of Jezebel, the Mary Sue, and this trash establishes that.

"Any media which shows a woman who is more attractive than I am is pushing a toxic regime of Impossible Beauty Standards!" -- a very intellectually superior female trashblogger

This intellectual maturity allows them to have a greater hold on their emotions when faced with confrontation. In comparison, the fragility of toxic masculinity creates an atmosphere where men feel the need to prove themselves as an "Alpha", resulting in extreme aggression and physical confrontation. This reaction is enhanced when levels of testosterone are increased in the male body through physical fitness.
Studies have shown that signs of aggression in male dogs decreased exponentially following castration. Dr. Nicholas Dodman, veterinarian and behavior specialist says, "Neutering your male [dog] has valuable behaviour benefits. Since I refuse to wear a mask to the gym I'm stuck going to my apartment fitness center and working out with dumbbells. DB squats with 75 lbs in each hand, overhead presses with 55lbs, and pullups. On the upside, there's a milfy latina who's there every day at 5pm to use the treadmill.

When I started working from home I started running again, and I'm up to about a mile and half and nine minute miles. I'd be able to do more, except my plantar fasciitis won't go away, so I've had to ease off a bit. Still, most days I try to get either a quick run in, or walk 4-5 miles.

I wish my dump would fix the A/C in the so-called fitness center. It's been broken so long, they've padlocked the door.

I do 25 pushups, 60 situps/crunches, lots of leg stretches, and then walk a fast 2 miles, around 36 min., outside in the early morning. Lately I've mixed about 10-12% of trotting (it's too slow to be considered "running"; about 3-5 min.) in with that. I can't do much more without an elliptical, since my knees give me some trouble if I pound them too long.

Then the WuFlu panic drove our society off the cliff like a herd of bison (hi bth if you're lurking!), so it's been work-from-home since March. Sitting around at home all day getting flabby.

80 I had a dental procedure yesterday, and they told me not to exercise hard for THREE WEEKS. Ridiculous. I normally work out every day, and now I've got to settle for a damn stroll around the block.

The liquid diet should help me lose a few, though. I'm not actually restricted, other than not eating crunchy or sticky foods (and no chocolate for some reason???), but it hurts to chew. I'm so hungry.

Seriously, I'm not joking, and I don't mean to "brag," but when this Covid thing started, I was already basically at my perfect weight, and had no significant (and barely any minor) physical complaints -- so I had no room for improvement.

I have little to no interest in "working out" and developing big muscle-y muscles, so I skip that under any circumstances.

I guess my "gainnnn" is that I haven't put on weight or injured myself in any way. Which is boring, but hey, I'll take good boring news over interesting bad news any day.

Being sequestered has really been good for us, unlike some who go the opposite way. My MIL gained weight because she was used to going to a public pool, and other exercise classes outside the home. She needs the incentive of others in a social setting.

We are the opposite, and luckily have a small gym at home. And jogging is free. So is walking.

I just watch my calories (I don't count calories, I just know how much of certain foods I can eat- and balance it out later if I go overboard) and cycle while watching TV every day. Walk. Clean the house. Mow the lawn. Just keep active whatever your circumstances.

We've both lost weight for some reason. But then again, it's summer too.

166 I've been lifting some deadweights, nothing big. Do about 5-10 reps. Each one is over my head, but not in a clean and jerk lift.

Then on alternate days do 30 reps each of 5 dumbbell exercises.

I walk, when well, two loops of 2/3 miles each for 1 1/3 miles. If I can, I do 2 loops in the AM coolness and 2 in the dusk heat. I try this every other day. Heavy rain gets in the way of this.

Ellipticals are great for people over 29. Much, much easier on the joints. I have this model, and while it's certainly not cheap, it's beefy, almost gym quality. There's nothing better than walking down to your basement for a workout. Also, you can do it in front of the TV.

190 Those flip flops look interesting. For the moment I'm sticking with stretches, a lacross ball in the freezer, and the edge of my chair's bar where the wheels attach (it can dig in really well and seems to help).

Part of my problem right now is that I love to eat, so I tend to overdo it on weekends. I've got bread cubes drying out for bread pudding tomorrow morning, for example. Then dinner will be chicken and pasta salad and cornbreab.

193 I have been meaning to get on one of these threads for a while. The fasting really does work. I'm down almost 55 pounds in about 7-8 months with no extra physical activity (actually less than usual) for most of it. I did start working out a little in the last few weeks. (I need to denounce my own toxicity apparently.) When I am not fasting I try to stick to a Keto diet. I'm mostly faithful to that except for whiskey about once a week.

I started it all because of an old post of Ace's in 2017 that I came across again about the science of fasting. I started with just being stricter about no snacks after dinner and started eating it earlier in the evening. Eventually I was able to get to nothing but water after 7:30pm. Then I started eating breakfast later. Coffee in the am and whenever I got hungry I'd drink water or chew sugarless gum. Eventually I'd 'forget' to eat breakfast and just wait for lunch. Now, I don't eat breakfast at all and every once in a while skip lunch too.

Last Dr visit he actually came back in the room and high-fived me after the blood work came back. Kidney and Liver function both better. I was pre-diabetic, that's gone. Blood pressure down to normal. He said every metric he tested was better. I had mild sleep apnea that's gone too. (never sleep anyway but at least the apnea is gone.) Overall, that post made a huge difference in my life. Thanks Ace!!

233 something I've just learned from my personal life that may be relevant here in regard to weight loss/gain and such. As I have been Covid-retired since March from my career as a software developer (I jump in and out of the word "engineer" as appropriate...going with 'developer' today, but whatevs...) I have been doing a lot of handyman and light carpentry/construction work at our cabin/retreat. Since I'm not in the general rat-race groove and such, I have also given up my moderately light workouts of swimming 1000 yards (< 30 minutes) a day. I am quite certain that muscle-wise I am burning more calories per day doing this sort of physical work today vs my swimming in the past. So I was expecting that my hunger/desire for calories would increase and I would need to watch my weight even more. What has actually happened however, is that I don't have the hunger cravings that I used to have when doing desk work. I have a theory that this is because the ratio of cycles my brain is going through relative to the amount of physical work that I'm doing (BC/PW) has gone down. According to my theory, evolutionally/biologically a relatively brain-evolved species might see significant use of BC as an indication of physical conflict, either in battle or against nature and thus kick off the "feed me" mechanism in order for the subject to have plenty of energy stored for the physical conflict. In modern environments the BC functionality is increasing while the PW variable is decreasing.

Not a no carb diet, but I've cut out carbs significantly. I limit myself to a a half a cup of rice or 1 piece of bread or a bowl of oatmeal per day. Now that it's summer, I'm eating mainly salads and things like roast chicken. During the colder months, I was cooking most of my meals in the Instant Pot. I found Brittany Williams' "Instant Loss" cookbook very helpful and used it a lot - the recipes are simple. Williams lost 125 lbs. cooking with her Instant Pot and air fryer (I don't own an air fryer).

I spend 40 minutes on the treadmill daily and have worked up to the point where I am almost but not quite running. I don't want to run, since although I am only 29, I have my knees to think about. Because Wuhan flu and world events make me crazy, I walk a hour every afternoon. That's more to clear my head and get fresh air - I'm not power-walking or anything like that. But I notice that going up hills is a breeze and not the chore it was in February. I do push-ups and lunges to loosen up before I get on the treadmill.

Both men and women have the same mean or "average" intelligence.

However -

The distribution of IQs for men and women are different.

The bell curve of women's IQs is more narrow (or penis shaped).

That means that there are a greater percentage of women with "average" intelligence than men. Which makes sense as women are the primary caregivers of children and a moronic (the bad kind) Mom doesn't work out so well evolutionarily.

The bell curve for men's IQs is wider ( or boob shaped). Which means as a general proposition that there are a greater percentage of men with lower than average IQs than women but also that there are more men with higher than average IQs than women....and now you know the main reason for the "Glass Ceiling".

245 Burpees: Harvester of Fear
(part 3 in a 3 part series)

My final thoughts on Burpees. I'm in month 4 now and all the remarkable changes to body composition and stamina have all but ceased. All the low hanging fruit has been gathered up. But like a bad computer model I had somehow predicted I would get huge and jacked based on the remarkable initial improvements. That's obviously delusional, a reminder that critical thinking is always an important habit to cultivate. I'm still doing 100 a day in the morning. Now I do them 6 days a week instead of seven. And this lead me to an important epiphany. This is precisely the moment in my gym rat days I would have "mixed it up" and started some other routine, focusing on arms or blasting my back. I was stuck in those days chasing short term, easy gains with no sense of the big picture. So I'm sticking with burpees. I'm going to climb up that tree and pick away at the fruit higher up.

When I first got into burpees it was solely to slow down my lockdown weight gain. I read a lot about the mental benefits of the exercise, and I never really gave a shit about that. But I've found they have helped me tremendously with my anxiety. Time and circumstances have made me a very anxious and fearful person. The lockdown was a crisis point for me due to my living circumstances. I also find burpees terrifying at times, as each rep gets impossibly harder then the last in the longer sets. There's a feeling of climbing higher and higher on a cliff. I'm breathing so hard sometimes that it interferes with the movement of my body. But facing your fears everyday and overcoming them starts to effect your outlook. You know in a flight or fight situation you have tons of gas in the tank. I've also seen my OCD like toughts and behaviors have diminished. I'm much less inclined to see misfortune as some kind of Bad Omen. And some minor ritualistic behavior is mostly gone. When I first turned to medication after a couple of anxiety attacks (believe me, they are much worse than they sound) I got only partial relief. Now the idea of having an anxiety attack sounds absurd.

I've also started on pull ups, an exercise I find excruciatingly hard. So I'll post my progression on that in another Gainz thread. Carry on!

This is something that once made me really respect a professor. We had an exam and I walked out knowing that I had bombed it. I didn't know what I needed to know to pass. I had studied, kept up with the course material, all of it - but I failed anyway.

The next class, she opened with "I am not handing back anyone's exam. I am cancelling it, and it's not going into anyone's grade. We had no passing grades on this exam, and the average score was around 20%. It's clear that I did something wrong here, and you won't be punished for it. I have prepared a revised syllabus and new assignments so we can catch up, and the new exam will be the end of next week."

It's another front. The dad did something completely unacceptable: he opposed. Now they not only have to do it, they have to make him pay for it. The only way for this to end in a satisfactory manner to the people perpetrating it is if dad eats a bullet.

Has anyone ever watched the Irish cops TV show, Red Rock? I've been binge watching it and it's some good easy entertainment. Amazon prime has seasons 1-3 (I believe there are 6 seasons). There's like 70 episodes a season but they're very short...20+ mins. in length. And now I'm pissed because the last episode of season 3, that's available, is a cliff hanger and I can't find the remaining episode of that season. Why do they do that with some shows? Pisses me off.

314 80 I had a dental procedure yesterday, and they told me not to exercise hard for THREE WEEKS. Ridiculous. I normally work out every day, and now I've got to settle for a damn stroll around the block.

The liquid diet should help me lose a few, though. I'm not actually restricted, other than not eating crunchy or sticky foods (and no chocolate for some reason???), but it hurts to chew. I'm so hungry.

As a retired dentist.....find a new dentist. Somebody is practicing CYA healthcare. Give them the Trump Treatment.

Expect an en banc rehearing, which may make this short-lived. But for the time being, they applied strict scrutiny to CA's infringement, which is a welcome change from other circuits, and may become a circuit split to make SCOTUS finally determine that the 2A is not so different as other fundamental liberties that require strict scrutiny to pass constitutional muster.
It is a victory. But it may be a temporary victory of a battle in the long war.

Many recent studies -- ones vets will never cite -- refute the dog castration narrative. In some case, dogs become more aggressive. Also many health risks, including degenerative myopathy and cancer. This is true for spaying as well. You'd think that ripping out the entire sexual apparatus of an animal at 6 months old would have raised concerns before now.

339 Going to crow a bit here. Started April 2019 at 350# (or so, scale kept giving me an error message which is the electronic version of "UGH! Get off me fatty!" By the time the new scale with a larger capacity was bought a month later, I was down to 341#)
Today I weighed in at 208#. I am deadlifting my new bodyweight, squatting more than 2/3d's and improving.

Yeah, I still have a face made for radio but it won't be as heavy as it was a year ago.
