Carmen Best, Seattle's First Black Female Police Chief, Resigns After City Council Cuts Her Salary in Half and After Mayor and Governor Permit Rioters to Surround and Menace Her House Every Night

Some black lives don't matter so much.

Zaid Jilani
@ZaidJilani

Seattle's first black police chief is resigning after the city council quite randomly cut her pay and then let anarchists repeatedly surround her house

Great job, everyone involved.

Seattle activists have been demanding that the city cut the police force for months, although it's not clear why. Seattle has fewer officer per capita than...Portland, Maine. It's not a particularly big police department.

Police Chief Best was also upset that her police force was ordered not to police the CHAZ/CHOP, resulting in four people getting shot and two people, including a teenager, dying.

Seattle wasn't letting her do her job, she was being harassed at her home by protesters, and they were cutting her salary by $100,000 (something they never did to her white dude predecessor) in the name of "Black Lives Matter." Sometimes irony is too much, gotta ragequit.

More below.

The City Council has all but given antifa and BLM the green light to run riot all over the city tonight and loot everything. And, probably, straight up kill some cops.

They will take that opportunity.

Seattle deserves everything that's coming to them.

They will just have to die with the consequences of their actions.

True!

80 68 Joe Biden said it best. If you ain't on the Dem Plantation, you ain't black.

4 Interestingly this poll of Seattle residents showed that Carmen Best was more popular than Mayor Jenny Durkan, the city council, or defund police protesters.

=========

It'd be fun if this is what convinces the people of Seattle to boot Mayor Jenny next year.

I mean, she's got 49-48 approval now.

It'd be funny if this whole thing destroyed the career of an up and coming Washington Democrat.

========

This is why these cities don't get better. They just get worse because the people who stay behind either can't or like what's going on. Those who like what's going on are going to stay as long as they can while continuing to vote for this stuff, while those who simply can't are trying to find ways out.

And then there are those who do leave, and they're not leaving because they love what's going on.

These cities are losing their more conservative elements, ensuring that the cities will just continue to degrade at faster and faster paces.

15 this is a shame. I really liked her. I met her in a coffee shop when my boy and I went in for a breakfast sammich before work/school. She was very nice. took the time to say hello.

I thought she did well under the circumstances, and hope she will be "red pilled" I would love to see her interviewed and give her honest assessment of the mayor during the CHAZ situation.

I'd be curious to see what the current turnover rate is for police departments across the country. At this point, race and gender do not matter -- it's that big cities are either alienating them into quitting/retiring or actively firing them.

So my guess is that exactly like in a lot of places in the 60s and 70s, those who can afford to move out of the city limits, and maybe the area continues to do ok. Which is a shame. Some cities (actual city limits) did make or were making a comeback. (NYC and Chicago were great comebacks. Other cities were improving). Now I suspect we are back to the 1970s, where, as an example, Philadelphia proper was a dangerous shithole, but the surrounding suburbs were (and are) beautiful.

85 >>>At least It's Always Sunny actually was filmed in Philly.

so I know you were making a joke, but I think this is interesting, and I Looked it up once: I think they do in fact film some street scenes on location in Philadelphia. If you google it, you can find pages that tell you which scene was shot on which street.

But of course most of the show is shot at the studio in LA, and the exterior of Paddy's Pub is actually some unoccupied warehouse in LA.

I also realize a few years ago that LA ordered an earthquake-proofing retrofit on all buldings. The retrofitting is visible by these painted steel diamond-shaped plates that I guess are supposed to hold the walls together.

You can see those plates on a lot of buildings on TV shows. Seinfeld, supposedly set in NYC, has a lot of buildings with those diamonds. Always Sunny in Philadelphia, too.

122 This is why these cities don't get better.

Yes. This.

It is a form of Ethnic Cleansing. The hard Left wants to run out anyone who may oppose them, including and especially the white middle class.
They want to energize and intimidate anyone left to work with them and help expand the chaos; they are in simple terms, recruiting an army and occupying territory.

So, things WILL get worse. Seattle will burn. Tragic, but THIS IS WHAT THEY WANT!

And notice that the police are trusted least of all in the above graphic. If I was a regular street officer, I would pack up my stuff and get me and any family I had out of there. They (Antifa/BLM) are coming for you.

And just a few years ago, we laughed at BLM when they confronted white folks at breakfast in restaurants.

Who's laughing now? I'm not.

135 The Seattle city council voted near-unanimously to cut both the Seattle police budget and Best's salary. (The only no vote was the crazed socialist, who wanted to completely gut the police.)

Best's salary was going to be cut by 40% (the city council reduced the size of the cut at the last minute). The city council cut the salaries of the entire police command staff by about the same percentage.

Seattle police pensions are based on the last five years of salary. One assumes all the command staff has enough time in for a full pension, so unless you've gotten a promotion recently, every member of the command staff will take a permanent pension hit if the keep working.

Seattle is going to lose about all of its senior police leadership, and soon.

Posted by: The ARC of History! at August 11, 2020 12:20 PM (I2/tG)

136 "BLM" is a malignant fraud, of course.
But a stopped clock is right twice a day, and I actually agree that ALL government agencies, including the police should have the fat trimmed.
When I heard that Seattle paid its Police Chief 280K/year my first thought was that was a buttload of money. Then they mentioned cuts to the "10 highest ranking officers" of the Dept which leads me to believe that there are at least several other bureaucrats in Seattle PD making over 200K/year.

This wouldn't, in itself, be the worst thing in the world, except the nature of all these "public servant" unions ties their phoney baloney pensions (earned by the time they're in their late 40s in many cases) to their top wage year, in which case Seattle (like most other blue cities) is building up huge pension liabilities.

So hell yes "defund" the fatass bureaucrats of all stripes. I realize now isn't the time to play into their narrative, but I find it ironic that the progressives are now the budget hawks and the "conservatives" are arguing against touching sacred cow municipal budgets.

But yes, let them play by their own rules, Alinsky and all that....

Can't be said enough, can it? But I still am left with no words within the dictionary to describe people (voters) who want this for their city. The policelessness. The mayhem. The chaos. The freaks. The destroyed businesses. The destruction of property on a grand scale. The loss of home property value. Only mental patients, on a scale I simply can't relate to or pinpoint, would actively want this for their city.

184 PS to my contrarian point at 136:

The whole idea of funding is a red herring to the real issues of policing now.

I think the biggest determinant of whether city government is turning its jurisdiction into a shithole is not how much it funds the police, but the political/public support (or lack thereof) it gives to its officers in carrying out their duties, the ROE, and how they react to officer involved shootings.

So you can "fund" "defund" etc up or down the wazoo, but at the end of the day if you have the officers' backs, let the citizens know that the city values law abiding people over criminals, and you'll be fine.

If not: Chicago, Portland, Seattle, etc. etc.

Not only would it freak out the Democrats by showing them just how many votes they could have had and didn't, if enough people do it, it'll give those parties a bit of legitimacy and momentum they currently lack.

When we hear ourselves say, in effect, that it would be satisfying and
good to see this or that Leftist run City meet it's demise or suffer
some degree of collapse, we become part of the problem. Rot and
corruption are to be found out and rooted out, not cheered on. Lest it
get our little towns and small cities next. The Tiger eating the class
bully is only a prelude to it's next meal. The Bully wasn't the problem
that the Tiger definitely is.

I suspect many people are applauding the death of the class bully because many of the powers that be are feeding the tiger, and there seems no way to get rid of it. They WANT the tiger to exist. If you can't get rid of a problem at all, well, at least try to celebrate any small victory you can.

313 I attribute this to people who vote leftists in office, let them shit the place up, then move somewhere else and convert it to a shit hole.

The surburban Portland county I live in, which used to be reliably Republican, now leans Democrat, due to people fleeing Portland. They haven't done a lot of damage yet, but that's only because there aren't enough of them.

I was near despair reading a thread on Nextdoor a while ago where all these Karens were excitedly discussing the prospects of banning plastic straws in the surburban county. I thought: "If you want to micromanage people's lives, why don't you move back to Portland?"

358 The surburban Portland county I live in, which used to be reliably Republican, now leans Democrat, due to people fleeing Portland. They haven't done a lot of damage yet, but that's only because there aren't enough of them.

The county sheriff still doesn't allow visible homeless camps, derelict tweaker RV's, or people begging on private property outside of stores.

Bring in enough Democrats, and that will change.

361 I have seen it argued both ways. But there is are reason even liberal restaurants have stickers that say "don't California my Texas". Sure when a conservative moves in it is a good thing. But a lot of people move to better states to improve their finances, but keep the politics they grew up with. That has been proven time and time. There is a reason why so many Dems rulers in VA were born in the North. I am not talking one or two, I am talking like 20 out of 30 in the big posts.

420 Austin is different from the rest of Texas, it always has been. Up until the 70's, there were really only two businesses in town - the State Capitol and UT. (and it was arguable as to which was more powerful) Remember that before the early 90's, Texas had been a Democrat One Party State forever.

Thanks to both of those job sources, Austin was always a party town, lots of music, drink, and drugs. In the 60's, the drug scene REALLY took off. Then the computer revolution took off, and for a variety of reasons the Texas microchip industry developed there, and then it got interconnected with Silicon Valley, and along with a huge amount of wealth, Austin became wedded to Silicon Valley culture.

that's a brief snapshot of how Austin got so liberal. Yes it was outsiders, BUT they found a very friendly place to land, and they brought an incredible amount of money and jobs with them.

448 I can barely remember when Colorado was red, no pun intended. Even Seattle and Portland can blame a lot of this on CA hippies moving in over the decades.
Posted by: Quint

It wasn't California "hippies". It was Democrat-Left middle class white people that moved out of California over the years to Oregon, Washington, Colorado.

I KNOW a couple of people that moved out of Greater LA after the 92 riots. Moved to Colorado Springs. And I am sure that they made it more Democrat.
I am sure they voted for Polis in the last election.

Because voting for the rich gay man is so just and right and all that backwash.

Last week, HRH Cooper announced that Phase II would be extended FOR ANOTHER FIVE WEEKS. Guess what? Immediately after the extension was announced, the positive test results plummeted AND TODAY THE POSITIVE TEST RESULT IS FIVE (5) PER CENT (5%). Free the people now, King Cooper!

The problem is that it encourages the areas to treat all newcomers as locust. From what I can see, the locusts are making small moves from the cities to the suburbs. The people moving long distances are conservatives trying to get a long ways away from the madness. We have to encourage conservatives to move into conservative areas as allies.

Not necessarily true. You also need to take into consideration the decisions that businesses- large employers- are making in reaction to this madness. When they relocate, they bring workers and their politics with them. The city I live in is overrun with transplants from NY/NJ who moved for their jobs. It is now pretty firmly in the Democrat column. I am sure the same is happening in certain cities in Texas with all of the transplants from CA.

You are a a reg, but I am not buying it. Are you referring to a particular situation? In my experience, conservatives figure each other out quickly. Even in a deep blue city I can spot a conservative in idle conversation with ease. Sure there are a few closed societies in the country like Savannah GA and Charleston SC or some parts of WV. But for the most part, if you are a conservative, you will be welcomed. I guess I am missing something here.

there is a reason why NC is always in play. They say Asheville is flat out lefty and we know that is true of Chapel Hill and Durham. I remember when Raleigh was a nice town really. At this point since the cities are overtaken, everyone in NC not in the cities has to vote R to keep it red.

466 Someone needs to gently invite her attention to Cloward-Piven. A functional, just and safe society rejects socialism as an alternative. Therefore modern liberalism seeks to make society dysfunctional and unsafe, while manufacturing injustice using historical grievances and the amplifying petty slights (all people bear) via their doctrine of intersectionality.

Her resignation is a feature not a flaw. Murdering the average citizen for rejecting socialism is a feature not a flaw. Having their supporters shot in self defense is a feature not a flaw, as each incident pushes us one step closer to widespread open violence.

They KNOW, socialism doesn't come to America without blood. They are willing to both spend it and spill it as necessary to get autocratic hard socialism.

That's why the reject a show of unity for the National Anthem. They don't want Americans coming together peacefully under constitutional politics to continue the work of a better union. They want a violent division which destroys constitutional governance and makes way for their unilateral control.

I can't laugh too much, I'm still waiting for the other shoe to drop in CA. I too am looking at an exit strategy. If not for my mother, I'd have bailed already.

I'm really wondering how many of these mayors and governors are going to suddenly become very interested in real estate investments of all the areas they've helped to vacate. I don't even need to wonder if anything will come of it.

I graduated from Chapel Hill in '81 and then left the state. Came back two years ago after getting laid off from my job. When I came home to visit over the years, there was a discernible change in the culture due to the expansion of RTP, so I wasn't blindsided when I came back. Still, just another place that I have lived where my vote doesn't count. At least here, that's only true in the local and USRep elections.
