At what? She couldn't even organize a successful coup?

Sorry, the whole "They're screwing everything up as part of an evil plan" thing doesn't work anymore. They had a clear vision of what they wanted to achieve and failed spectacularly. Their "success" was entirely the media sponging up all the blood from their failures.

Other than that, which the media will cover for her anyway, she probably has the least baggage of any of the options so far. And she's a Governor. Executive experience. Which will come in handy when she takes over as President when Biden is shuffled off to a nursing home in February 2021.

Makes the most sense of any of the choices floated.

She's also showed she will spar with Trump, as she's had her war of words with him since COVID-19 stuff started in March. And the press already had the "The Woman in Michigan" or whatever it was puff piece on her.

The only thing she doesn't have in her favor is she's not a minority.

It's incompetence and greed.

Is your power supplied by a municipality? Ours is, and as the Lost Decade of Michigan took its toll on public revenues, the City of Lansing began to use its power company as a piggy bank, neglecting regular maintenance. When the Great Ice Storm hit in 2012, we were out for a week, even though the power plant is only a few miles from my house.

Now just about every house in my leafy, affluent neighborhood has a generator - something unknown when I was growing up here.

But back then, our leaders took this shit seriously.

The continued presence of Andy McCarthy as an "our expert" on the DOJ/FBI tells me more about the state of our establishment/media connection than does anything he actually says/writes.
He's been either blinded to the awful state of affairs by years of association with the few basically honest people in government, or he's as corrupt as the rest of them but just has a better mask.

==================
We lose power nearly every time it rains. PSEG is not a utility, it's a ponzi scheme. Once upon a time, they installed a new meter at my house and their technician did it incorrectly. Took them two months to fix it and they billed me for the estimated lost revenue and a $500 fine. I wrote a complaint letter to the CEO. Denied. I wrote to the state public utilities commission. Nothing. No response.

Power poles are put in the ground without sufficient depth for support, so they sag. Lines are overloaded. Extra wire is left on the poles. The whole PSEG way of operating is the sloppiest. least supervised effort I have ever seen, but they pay nothing for their errors. In fact, as my earlier example shows, they get away with fining the customer for their mistakes.

It didn't get a lot of press, but hours after Whitmer tightened restrictions on Northern Michigan, she held the annual Pass in Review for the National Guard troops.

Which was in violation of her own order, thereby putting National Guardsman at risk. (You can debate how much, but if her order was because crowds of 500+ are too dangerous, than it was putting them at risk.)

Local media didn't pick up on it too much, but I'm sure that will change if she gets the nod.

I canceled all after work plans to go visit my friend, figuring her family would prefer not to be disturbed once she was in hospice. Sadly, she died while I was visiting. Her husband and daughter had left to run a couple of errands. I was sad, but I figured she was spared the misery of yet another bumpy trip to a new facility. 166 This is the number one reason I am optimistic. The old Dems were crooked but competent. Those people are dying off, and their minions are dipshits. Look at the Clintons - Bill's clearly lost a step, Hillary was always an idiot and their kid is useless.

Same with Biden, etc.

The reason I'm not as optimistic is that our side is unwilling to "look political" by exposing or prosecuting "close to an election". Since when is protecting criminals so they can be elected a function of the DOJ?

The amazing part to me is that they got caught. If Hillary had won, which pretty much everybody thought was going to happen, they would have gotten away with it. And if Zelensky hadn't won in Ukraine, even more improbable the totality of it wouldn't be known.

If Trump wins I think what will come out over the next few years will be mind boggling.

I really can't breathe right in those masks, had ridden my bike there in the 90 degree heat just before putting it on and was feeling a bit faint, and as I was headed down an empty aisle I scootched the damn thing down - I swear on this - about 1/4 of an inch below my nose to get a few blessed gulps of air.

The manager must have been watching me on a security camera, as he came rushing over to berate me and tell me I'd have to leave the store if I didn't put my mask back up over my nose.

I set down my 150.00 worth of intended purchases, removed my mask entirely, said "No. And you just lost a regular customer." Turned and walked straight out and made my purchases at a competitor's.

I originally wanted so badly to try and help out the family-owned businesses in particular, but this crap keeps happening and I am at the point where my attitude is: screw 'em.

It's important to differentiate between Washington leaders and the ones out in the states - which is what will really matter if/when things get hot.

On the state level, the Dems are utterly inept, but the GOP is (mostly) competent. Okay, not great, but this is like....wait for it....the Spanish Civil War.

The Nationalist Army was inferior to just about every major power: France, Germany, Britain - all of them could have wiped the floor with them.

But they were good enough to beat the Republic, which is all they had to do.

RE: Durham, I'm a little disappointed in you. If we have learned nothing over the last four years it is is that *ALL* journalism is a lie. All of it.

It also goes to the fact that none of them will take a bullet for another.

It's all CYA, all the time, which is why someone is going to take a fall, even if it's only symbolic.

I get the impatience, but I sense that what's going on with Flynn would also go on with prosecutions here. They have to nail it all down and get pleas, which means convincing the guilty that a friendly judge won't simply go YOLO and throw the case out.

I mean Flynn should be over. How can you appeal a prosecutor's decision to drop a case??? And what will the remedy be - a court-appointed prosecutor?

How the hell would that even work?

But here we are. So people who think Durham should just file charges already need to keep all that in mind.

oh how I dream of those days to come...

another note about the Texas Power grid; because of state environmental regs and site restrictions, California and some other states have chosen to supply their power through a relatively few, extremely large generating plants. (hydro dams, etc) Texas, on the other hand, due to the ubiquity of nat gas supplies combined with the windfarms in the west half, is supplied by thousands of individual and separate generating plants. It's easy to see which model would be more robust in a time of crisis.

281 @229...you're right, the timing of Durham revelations, whatever they are, is very important. My bet is a scathing report laying the whole thing out, but only a few indictments: Clinesmith almost certainly, an as yet unknown leaker or two...maybe McCabe and/or Comey if Durham is very ambitious and that snake Brennan is forced to publicly Brennan rat on them. Brennan will skate, probably because behind closed doors he's cooperating. But the timing has to be right. Close enough to election to put Team Biden on constant defense for an impartial time period, but not too far out to allow defendant's legal maneuvering and media lying to offer a real competing "political witchunt" narrative. Labor Day weekend or thereabouts seems right. DJT probably wants it closer to election day, but Barr will likely honor the 60 day "rule" about no big potentially political actions before an election.

I used to not believe it, I thought it was a ridiculous overreach that could do no good.

and then I saw the infamous Ellen Degenerate Dance Off video, in slow-mo and focused on Moochelle.

oh my god.

so that's why Tranny Rights have suddenly become a thing in the Dem party. Now it makes sense. And I think the only real Woman in the White House from 2008 - 2016 was ValJar, and she, having been born in Iran, was always a paid and loyal agent for the Iranian Government. Which explains the cash, and the hate for Israel.

288 >>Even Mueller was willing to indict Russians. When the IC people are indicted, it will matter. Foreigners, be they Russians Ukrainians, Christopher Steele or Prince Andrew will not be extradicted. It's cosmetic unless the American cohorts go down hard.

And how did that case turn out?

Oh yea, it was thrown out of court due to lack of evidence. In other words it was a bullshit indictment designed to generate some PR not try anyone let alone put anyone in jail.

Durham is looking for evidence of criminality. So are the 4 other US Attorneys who have also been assigned to look at various aspects of what was an enormous conspiracy. I really don't understand why this is so hard to understand, you can do it fast like Mueller (fast being over 2 years) or you can do it right.

Just because you "know" something happened doesn't mean you can prove it in court. Do you know why it took so long to uncover the exculpatory documents on Flynn? 3 years. Because Mueller's corrupt team hid them. I doubt the coup plotters left behind playbooks of every corrupt action they took. It has to be found and they have powerful people playing defense.

Just curious - Do you keep all your work stuff - computer, work phone, on ET?

I live in MT but work in ET and even after 5 years of doing it I get mixed up on the time quite often. I've found that keeping my work laptop and phone (we use Magic Jacks but I run mine through a base unit - basically a cordless phone) on ET helps. But, many of my co-workers who are also working from dufferent time zones don't do that and think I'm crazy.

I didn't like the Seinfeld finale. Finales usually suck really. The MASH finale was at least a huge ratings success.

American shows are interesting really. They tend to use up their good ideas in the second and third season and then they just keep going as long as it pays off.

298 I absolutely LOVED the Seinfeld Finale! And that's because it was a very DELIBERATE statement about the entire series by Jerry himself, as he said later. It reall DID sum up the entire show, but it was quite a bit too honest for most people to take.

The message, as Jerry himself has said: Can't you see that these 4 main characters are self absorbed, heartless and cruel children? They do no good for anyone, they have NEVER done any good for anyone. They waltz through their lives leaving havoc in their wake, and thinking it's funny. Everyone who knows them should despise them! And if you self-identify with any of them, well you've got a big problem and you should really work on that. Because they are, and always have been, 4 miserable, useless people.

Bewteen the two of them they seem to know everyone in the entertainment industry, and they'll just sit and talk TV, movies, directors, actors and just let it fly. If one of them doesn't like someone, they'll let you know. (Paulie Walnuts is apparently a not very pleasant person in real life!) Schirippa was a long-time booker of acts at Vegas casinos and has some great stories from that, and his own family had Mob connections - his dad was a bookie.

Then they eventually get to the particular episode of the week, and Schirippa goes through the script while they talk about the episode. It's just a kind of cool little thing that the two of them originally put together to pass the time during lockdowns, and it took off and has become hugely popular. Even has sponsors now.

And that he was up north when travel had been banned in the state for weeks.

I know several hair stylists who were supportive of Whitmer( female stylists love them some girl power) until Whitmer continued the ban on hair salons and barbers opening, and told people they could learn to cut and color their hair on you tube. Salons are open now with major restrictions, but the stylists haven't forgotten or forgiven Whitmer.

The meme that Michelle Obama is a man is so tired and worn out. Considering people have known her since childhood, through school and college, and she has two kids with Barry would mean that literally hundreds of people would have to keep it a secret that she is a man. It's so stupid that it boggles my mind that people keep repeating this crap. And yes, I saw Michelle's video on Ellen and most likely it was microphone wiring they tried to hide or get out of the way, and the material on her pants was not the kind to hide it.

The finale had its good points no doubt. It was great that they found a way to bring back all the famous characters. But I think there is some back dating going on too. The finale was hugely panned for a reason. It is not like the audience didn't know the characters and they need to have it explained to them. The creators know it went poorly, that is why there were rumors of a reunion show for years and years. Yes, it was a show about nothing. But a bunch of narcissists that are funny end up in prison?

349 I didn't like the Seinfeld finale. Finales usually suck really. The MASH finale was at least a huge ratings success.

==================

MASH finale was quite pleasing - douche Hawkeye made a lady strangle her baby because because he was afraid.

AfterMASH should have followed that up with Hawkeye in the booby hatch because he keeps killing the neighbors chickens and dancing about while shouting, "See! It was a chicken!"
Then they force him to remember he is war criminal. Then back to killing chickens again... rinse, repeat.

354 Joe and Barry could never do this!

The gap in unemployment between black and white Americans is now at its narrowest point in historical records going back to the 1970s. Typically, black unemployment rarely falls below 200 percent of the white unemployment rate. Even in recessions, when unemployment is generally rising, the racial gap remains close to 200 percent. Last year, as unemployment rates hit historic lows, the gap narrowed to 1.6 to 1, the lowest on record since 1972.

I take that as an example of Chicago corrupt voting practices. At the time, she was attending an Iowa college and her legal residence was Nebraska. How the hell was she permitted to vote in an Illinois election and how the hell does she think it was perfectly acceptable.)

358 The finale was hugely panned for a reason. It is not like the audience didn't know the characters and they need to have it explained to them. The creators know it went poorly, that is why there were rumors of a reunion show for years and years. Yes, it was a show about nothing. But a bunch of narcissists that are funny end up in prison?

As Biden would say, C'mon man!

I had some smarty pants eggheads try to convince me that the finale was the perfect ending for the show. What they didn't address was why it was such a distillation of every fucking annoying aspect of the show, like Kramer hopping on one leg like a retard in a small plane. Dying in a fiery crash would've been a great finale.

That's a semi-serious question. I figured I was out of electricity

but NJ in general is a rich state, how can they not fix electricity?

I'll defend my state--this one time. The storm the other day came up relatively quick. Yes, there were warnings, but it still caught most off guard.
To put it in perspective--1.7 million lost power during Hurricane Sandy--for which there were days of warnings and preparation. 1.4 lost power the other day.
That's A LOT of people.

Also, most think of NJ as pure asphalt and oil refineries, an urban wasteland. But there are LOTS of green leafy suburbs--plenty of trees lining long , winding roads that are lined with utility poles, the wires of which are torn down when trees fall --or are UP ROOTED WHOLE--which I witnessed myself the other day. Where does thing tangle of wires and tree limbs fall? ACROSS THE ROAD--making them impassable. So you have to untangle the wires and trees--and then clear the roads before the the power companies can have access.
It takes time, and frankly I'm surprised power is coming back as fast as it is.

380 Just because you "know" something happened doesn't mean you can prove it
in court. Do you know why it took so long to uncover the exculpatory
documents on Flynn? 3 years. Because Mueller's corrupt team hid them. I
doubt the coup plotters left behind playbooks of every corrupt action
they took. It has to be found and they have powerful people playing
defense.

Jack, I applaud your stalwart support of the Washington Generals, I'm sure they're going to beat the Globetroters next time they play. But to believe that the DOJ intends to do anything to major swamp rats there are a few unfortunate facts you have to ignore.

There are only two laws protecting our Constitutional rights 18 USC 241 and 242. Those laws are necessary because nobody can be charged in court with violating the Constitution. Those laws have been on the books for 150 years. In that time neither has ever been used to protect any of the Bill of Rights. Read 18 USC 241, and tell me that a first year law student couldn't convict Michael Bloomberg and his "Mom's Demand Action" gun control groups of violating it - even if Bloomberg had OJ's dream team and Perry Mason defending him.

The DOJ had both Lois Lerner, and the FBI lawyer who altered the Carter Page email from the CIA Dead to rights - no possible defense, and declined to prosecute either.

There are many more things I could point out - but just answer those, and I'll buy what you are selling.

Ultimately, dead is dead. In any given year, in any given city, state, and nation, people die.

How many are dead now, this year? How many were dead last year? Is there a difference?

Turns out, if you ask the "average" American how many people have died from the China wuww, they will give numbers in the millions. They think there are tens of millions of people dead from this thing.

The problem with arguing about whether the government is fudging numbers or not is that it doesn't matter! We're dealing with a moronic populace, who are brainwashed by the media to believe something that you can't argue away, with quibbling over "died from" or "died with."

That Kid, Sushi I think, looks exactly like him.

417 After a point the shows become more about the
personalities of the characters than whatever the original point of the
show was. Even Person of Interest wasn't immune to that and it was my
favorite show ever.

I haven't seen the show. Might have to check it out.

418 227 Well, she WAS known at Princeton in the 80s and penned that now-famous thesis which Christopher Hitchens described as being "written in no known language."

Heh. Hitch was the best. I don't know if her thesis is still online but I looked at it. I say looked at because it literally could not be read.

At least she wrote something in school, that is available to the public. Did her husband write anything for passing a class or graduation purposes, and available to the public, at Columbia or Harvard Law?

421 Only so many stories can be written about a group people before it starts getting repetitive. 2 or 3 seasons for a show is when that happens.

422 I found some cheese in a bag in my freezer just now. Looked like it might have been Gorgonzola. No idea how long it's been there or why there would be cheese in the freezer.

If anybody was keeping a slice of wedding cheese in my freezer, you've got about ten minutes to come get it or I'm throwing it out.

We had a power outage, some years after my wife had died. Freezer was full of stuff that wasn't salvageable. I came upon the wedding cake top.

I'm not a sentimental guy to begin with, but good lord, why do people keep that crap. What the hell is the point.

At this point, our best hope on movement is that sundance's powerpoint slides become self-aware and start indicting.

I assume it was known to Horowitz (Steiner) and his gang long before it was "exposed". The FBI is, indeed, that corrupt.

430 408 American shows are interesting really. They tend
to use up their good ideas in the second and third season and then they
just keep going as long as it pays off.

I am no more an expert than anyone else here. I watch what a like and mostly that consists of older sitcoms. I have heard many writers say they use the first season to develop the characters and they put all their good ideas into the second and third season because they want to get them in before a possible cancellation.

People often refer to British shows that only last a few seasons and say that is why. But there are exceptions of course, there are British shows that go on and on.

432 Of course there are shows that last a long time and still hold up. Frasier and Cheers held up a long time but even they really petered out long before they ended imo.

It was an excellent show about using AIs for security post 9/11 and the ethical quandaries that exist. Because it made people think it never had really high ratings, although people who liked it *really* liked it with Facebook groups discussing it, and CBS pulled the plug on it too early for a really good resolution. I was hooked from the first episode.

Posted by: Captain Hate at August 08, 2020 11:32 AM (y7DUB)

435 I can't speak about Netflix as I don't use that site. And there is a good reason for that. The last show I watched on Netflix was the one with the guy from the Sopranos who was a mobster in Norway. That one ended abruptly too.

438 I only read it because we lost power for two days. When it came back the teevee said parts of New Jersey won't get power until Tuesday. How hard is electricity?

That's a semi-serious question. I figured I was out of electricity because I live in an obscure part of the state that no one cares about, but NJ in general is a rich state, how can they not fix electricity?

Posted by: Bandersnatch at August 08, 2020 09:12 AM

Electricity is pretty hard, actually, but they're pretty good at fixing it.

Look, when they say that "power may not be fully restored for months" (like they always say about a major hurricane) they're saying something true, but that's not how you judge progress in such things.

The first thing they do is fix all the major power lines to all their substations. That generally doesn't take very long. Then, they fix the supplies to places like hospitals and such so that people who need care can get it. Then, they fix the power everywhere else starting at the largest group of people without power to the smallest.

Now, usually, power's out because a fuse has blown. Sometimes that's because there's something like a branch on the wire, and that blew the fuse, so basically you have to check the entire wire for shorts and replace the fuse. Sometimes, the fuse will be open, but the line will be energized because some knucklehead has connected his generator to the power grid. The first time around, they just skip over that and go to some place that doesn't have that kind of knucklehead.

Eventually, you run out of easy fixes for power going to thousands of homes and start doing harder fixes and smaller outages. Eventually, you'll wind up doing places where all the poles and transformers providing power to a couple or three houses were wiped out because of the storm and you'll have to do major construction work to get power back on. Places like those two or three houses will take months to get their power back, but most everybody else will have it back in a day or two. A week on the outside.

439 Do you have a link to when the DOJ announced they weren't going to prosecute Comey for leaks? I suppose that didn't happen either.

The announcement came during the first lockdown when Corona was al the news, all the time, and if I remember correctly it was on a Friday afternoon. I read it on either a legal blog or in a Breitbart story, I'll try to find it.
