What follows is a portion of a response to my boss from a staff member about an inperson meeting:

"I'm sure you're over hearing about people's concerns but what I'm having trouble understanding is why, and this is in general, not just (this workplace), people are operating like there's no risk out there. There was no flattening of the curve, it's just been climbing higher and higher. And how much worse do we think it's going to get come Sep, Oct, Nov?"

63 I think wearing a mask around vulnerable people is a kind thing to do. I think people who have a compromised immune system simply makes sense. I think people should choose what they want to do and wear one or not where they want.

I also think that requiring masks and attacking people for not wearing one is creepy and anti American. I think its totalitarian and deeply disturbing, an incremental creep to take away yet another freedom which we should stand our ground and fight.

And I think people who are so insistent on everyone ELSE wearing a mask are driven by fear and a need for control.

Oh, hell yes. I need them to do laundry. Every laundromat and anywhere else in town with a quarter-changer has been bled dry for weeks. No stores will sell them to you. Had 2 customer sercice people tell me their store is asking the employees to bring their own coins in from home for redemption because the store needs them.

Finally scored 4 rolls at my bank. They said "for now" they can sell 4 rolls per day per accountholder. I have a few days off next week, going to go back and see if I can get more.

82 I know for an absolute fact that insisting on a 6 foot distancing is without merit and was chosen arbitrarily. I know that you cannot argue that we'll all be saved by masks when nations haven't required them or used them and are doing as well or better than the nations who did.

I think people who share pictures of fools wearing masks during the Spanish Flu epidemic to try to prove that its historical and reasonable to command wearing masks should be beaten with rods while someone explains to them that it did nothing to help with the Spanish Flu and people died like wheat being harvested anyway.

Posted by: Christopher R Taylor at August 04, 2020 03:48 PM (KZzsI)

83 Something I have been thinking about since this whole thing with masks really started going (which I classify as separate from the rest of the Covid hystreria.)

Masks reduce social cues that people can pick up on. Being able to see someone smile or frown based on social interaction is kind of a bedrock of human communication.

It seems strange, but why are we trying to create an entire nation of autistic people with massive anxiety?

Since finding that my local grocery chain, unlike Walmart, does not post kapos outside to make sure you wear a muzzle, and doesn't accost you or make any fuss while you're shopping or checking out or leaving . . . I intend to shop there much more often, and to let the manager know why.

Took the Squirrel family to Japan and saw Hiroshima. Visited the epicenter of the bomb and viewed the lone building they left standing.
Little Boy was a fart compared to what is in the arsenal today.
Still- the museum was sobering. Seeing a shadow of a child burned into pavement was horrendous.

As terrible as the bombs were, they saved countless lives from a worse fate through a forced invasion and occupation.
That said, the people of Hiroshima were friendly and very welcoming. Japan is a wonderful country. 1940s Japan? Eh not so much.

Why in the hell are they out and about?

If this disease is as deadly as people claim, why are they in the middle of it wearing something that work?

95 So I think I had a minor heart attack this morning. I feel like my chest cavity is bruised under the sternum. Hurts to breathe. Felt like my heart was getting punched all morning.
I sure am glad health Insurance is tied up with full time employment to a major company, and I recommend the government force car and home and life insurance and every other type of insurance to be the same so that way self employed people can really be fucked. And they should pass all the costs from illegals and poor minorities further onto the middle class. The upper class too because I know people who can't afford it making 6 figures a year and owning a home outright.
Thanks assholes.

104 Not to be argumentative, but perhaps vulnerable people should sequester themselves as much as possible to be kind to the rest of us.

I agree, but its not always possible or reasonable to do so. I mean if visiting granny means wearing a mask, I'm okay with that. I know a woman who because of various illnesses and medicines trying to deal with those illnesses has nearly no immune system left. She wears a mask everywhere she goes outside the house. That's reasonable.

Does anyone else think that the fact banks and stores are running short on coins is a red flag?

That was a screwup by the government, partly driven by not allowing enough workers at a time at the mints.

But yes, there is a real and determined effort to eliminate cash, at least in part driven by silicon valley.

Lately (in the last month) there've been a few surgical strikes on weapons depots or nuclear facilities in the mid east. You wouldn't know it by the news, because they don't want to mention it. We never hear who was behind it.

I think these strikes represent the destruction of the billions of dollars skimmed by the dems to arm our enemies, so that the taxpayers would pay for the weapons that would destroy them.

126 Looking at stills of the explosion in Beirut, I see the following: A Wilson condensation cloud caused by the low air pressure after the shock front. Also a wave of water at the base of the cloud. Finally a shock wave preceding the other phenomena.
I would guess this was about a 1 kiloton explosion. It looks like it was a ship which exploded, since the blast was in water. It was similar to the Texas City explosion of 1947 which was about 2 KT. The Texas city blast was caused when smoldering ammonium nitrate in a freighter detonated.

155 I'm starting to think - with DeWine's asinine comments today - that masks are our price, our sacrifice, to the State, to be able to leave the house and go to work/school/shop.

The Left will allow the economy to restart, but only if we all cover our faces for their pleasure/amusement.

DeWine is saying all the kids - all ages - must wear masks all day in school. And he's saying this is the New Normal - this is FOREVER. no limit on this. It's what kids should always do.

So there we are.

My experience so far has been that certain private schools I know of have them wear the masks, yes, but they don't wear them up in class. just in the halls. also the desks are positioned "normally" now (like, in rows) which I kind of like.

So, I'm sanguine. I think once school starts and people get out and about more, and no catastrophes really happen (despite the press and the karens), it's a start.

we have to try to swing things back, and masks or no masks, this is a start. whatever.

161 My gym put in a mask mandate this week.

Went to work out today and they wouldn't let me. They said they would let me have a free one.

I told them I was unable to wear a mask and to please cancel my membership. They told me I would need to put on a mask to come in and cancel it.

I told them again that I couldn't wear a mask, could they please print it off and I would sign it outside. The girl repeated that I would need to come in and complete it electronically on the credit card thingy.

I repeated that I was unable to wear a mask.

Finally the manager came to the door and asked me again and said they would give me a mask. I explained to him that I was bound and gagged in prison and forcibly raped and that I had PTSD about masks. His eyes got very big and he quickly went inside and came back with a paper showing where they had cancelled my membership and he apologized to me.

I got quite a chuckle out of it as I drove off, his reaction was priceless.

Same here. The order they posted online says that the goal is voluntary compliance, but if that's not achieved, then you get arrested and charged with a misdemeanor.

Umm, that makes it not exactly voluntary. I hate fucking weasel politicians.

So, while they were thinking socks or bandanas or whatever, face shields are now included. Even some of the cashiers are wearing them.

Good point.

What gets me is that almost no one is talking about the long-term psychological effects of all of this--and other things we've never dealt with
For instance, kids are seeing their teachers AFRAID to go back to school, their parents screaming at strangers,
They are being made to wear a cloth mask over their mouth.

The Wifey told me about a local restaurant that was hired for a private party (closed to the public). The guest of honor was turning 90 and their family wanted to take them out. Everyone was seated outdoors, under canopies. There were two waitstaff, masked, and two kitchen staff. The weather was in the triple digits, and the party members were sweating and miserable, so the restaurant moved them inside. A group of Karens showed up and whined to the authorities and the restaurant got fined.

At some point business owners are going to have to take it to their city councils "Let me open, or put a bullet in my head, because you're killing me and I'd rather it be quick."

But that doesn't change the revelation of the last few months.

About institutions, and much of the populace.

And I don't see any indication any of it will be fixed (on the institutional side). CDC has been a clown show from the start, up to today - but nobody from the WH to the few sentient/useful members of Congress show any sign they understand the depth of the disaster and have any intention of trying to fix things.

There are those at CDC who are as appalled as any intelligent outsider paying attention, but not in "leadership".

235 I don't like the "masks have zero effect against the virus" argument ... imo they have an effect on how much inoculum is spread by an infected person.

BUT there are several downsides, physical and social. And there is the social shaming political aspect, and the obedience training part. There is also the idea that our bodies are designed to constantly collect bacteria and viruses so that our bodies can constantly develop resistance.

The concept that the "too sterile" environment can actually make children less resistant to disease, probably makes sense (not sure of evidence on that). But in this case when "they" wanted the virus to spread, they condemned Trump for travel restrictions, and Fauci said no need for masks, and Cuomo was sending the sick IN to the nursing home (to kill of the burdensome elderly).

But NOW after months, the mask restrictions are actually more in force than ever. Presumably, it is mostly about getting "cheat by mail voting" in place. The peak was long ago, a more recent spike from the riots was with younger people, which resulted in a small spike in deaths, but that is in decline as well. Sweden is over it ... no shut downs there, no mask laws. And masks don't stop the spread, because it spreads in too many other ways, "we already flattened that curve" ... in the end, only herd immunity works.

Here's the truth of the matter. Most of the stuff that any nation of people tells themselves is patriotic feel-good stuff and not really all that true(in some cases it may be more true of them on average compared to other groups but rarely is it the case for a majority of the population). It's not exactly unhealthy to believe it and helps the nation feel more like a group, but it isn't true. There's not as much difference between the average Euroweenie and the average American as we like to pretend.

The good news: More than one restaurant and bar have told Hizzoner to shove it.

266 DeWine is saying all the kids - all ages - must wear masks all day in school. And he's saying this is the New Normal - this is FOREVER. no limit on this. It's what kids should always do.

---

Actually, this is perfect. He, and the other jamokes jerking with getting the kids back to the schools, are destroying public schooling in Ohio. They will never be the same.

This will eventually crush the very idea of free public schools for all in the state.

Oh sure, it will take a couple of years, but they are done. The folks that can afford private schools/dedicated tutors for their kids are doing it now.

As an example - The local catholic school finished a $12 Million expansion last year. Immediately following the opening of that new facility, they started on another $12 million fundraiser. It's almost completely funded.

ps - 50% of the kids there are not catholic.

274 "Not liking" an "argument" - that was last thread, about 2 + 2 = 5.

This isn't warhead design. It's been studied for decades, and is pretty commmon-sensical. There's all the info out there, available. (of course you might have to - ick! - venture into the evil twatters, because that's the easiest way to get linked and find actual analysis debunking the idiocy coming from the CDC/MSNBC - which now have about equal technical credibility)

There is no scientific basis for any "face covering" in connection with a prevalent infectious respiratory virus. There has never been a real study showing significant benefit. The anecdotal garbage cited by the CDC for their 180 (which is a 180 on decades, not just months, of conventional wisdom) only advertizes what a post-scientific dumpster fire it has become.

It's also a great way to control who does business wne which businesses are allowed to exist.

Fore example, they won't have to pass laws to restrict gun sales, they just withhold payment processing for gun sales. They've already done this to Gab: Visa refuses to process their payments *and* blacklisted Gab founder and his wife from ever using Visa CCs. I was refusing to wear a mask

1) Because I was antibody tested as having had it already and
2) Because I don't walk around in perpetual fear of something that may or may not kill me. I just don't.

People have told me "you must not wear your seatbelt either" and I said that I do, but I don't agree with mandatory seatbelt laws - just like I don't agree with mandatory helmet laws.

I've been forced now to wear the mask because our governor has said that she'll revoke the license of any business not enforcing mandatory mask decrees (not laws, its not a law when it hasn't been voted on by my legislator or enacted via executive approval).

So they're basically running the gun to the hostage head routine. Meanwhile my state - which has had one of the lowest Covid-19 infection rates already - has basically flatlined since April. Today we had 5 new cases statewide. Yesterday 11. Literally everyone is wearing a mask up here. If masks were really the panacea, it'd be gone.

However I don't see the mask thing going away. It's here to stay even after the pandemic has passed. People are just to eager to demonstrate how good of people they are with effortless gestures that undermine our personal freedoms.

324 The lack of understanding is pretty comprehensive, it's not just the sheepish, totalitarian, emotionally unwell, et al who have been on an anti-scientific rampage.

So you see "skeptics" (yet again, a dumb label word) going on and on about the riots and demonstrations, and feverishly trying to pin a rise in "cases" to it.

And in doing so, they rely, like all their counterparts, on several false assumptions, key ones being that it matters if a low-risk virus spreads (esp. to the demo dominating public events, which is at less "risk" than from flu every year), and that transmission is actually good/higher in such settings (no evidence of that, so far, points other direction, to prolonged exposure in closed environment).

It's just the inability to think logically or critically. Which is the true, possibly fatal epidemic of sorts.

336 I am old enough to remember the last time there was coin shortage ~ 1964. That shortage - which was government caused - was to allow the government to inflate the currency. The silver in dimes and above was getting to be worth more than the face value of the money, which acted as a natural block to inflation. By taking the silver out, the currency could be inflated, more or less, at will.

The government is also causing the current coin shortage, because the dollar is now worth so little that a penny now has more than 1 cent worth of copper in it. By getting rid of coins, we can now have Wiemar Republic levels of inflation. Yea.

On top of that, if you live in an area with polite store employees, fine. I live where, if you cross them in the slightest, they start with the finger-jabbing and head-snapping, and the voice's volume starts to climb. (I can outshout them, but I can't do the head-snaking thing.)

I just started listening to Jordan Peterson's Biblical Series, Part I, Introduction to the Idea of God:

https://youtu.be/f-wWBGo6a2w

He's kinda smart.

Yes. Yes, he is. And little ol' dumbassed me tries to make sure I always listen to people who are smarter than I am.

I liken JBP to a modern-day John the Baptist to a small extent. He's a historian in addition to being a brilliant psychologist with decades of experience. Well worth your time to listen, imo.

She's the interesting one. 86 and has congestive heart failure and spent the last 3 months on and off in hospitals and rehab for non Chinese lung rot issues. Survived it after 4 days in hospital. The other 2 that were just diagnosed are doing great.

The new story that's going around, and who knows if this is true, is that there was a shipload of ammonium nitrate that was confiscated and kept in a warehouse at the port.

For 12 years.

Initially the amount listed was 50 tons. I just saw oh wait we mean 2,750 tons.

If true, that would do it.

Doctors have confirmed that Ms Larson will need a full double cheek emergency ass transplant, since in testing, she was unable to find her own ass with both hands. Ms Larson evidently lost her ass when she was the stunt double for Ashley Scott in the movie Into The Blue.

right, that part of it makes no sense ... BUT if they were storing/producing missiles, right in town might be considered safe from attack, and a busy port might be easier to conceal explosive shipments than some remote site.

It did look like fireworks popping off before the explosion ... but that could have been cover for the explosives shipments ... idk. In any case, at least in hindsight, that much explosive near town is bad ... so were they stupid, or hiding missiles? (both is possible)
