Posted by: Stinky at August 03, 2020 09:38 AM (KxiKM)

25 Apparently, according to the 'net Makovsky's works were known for their "perpetual humor" and "blatant irony and scorn". He felt the rich took advantage of the poor and supported the Russian revolution, but since he died in 1920 he didn't get to see the horrors of Communism in full flower.

Posted by: FenelonSpoke at August 03, 2020 09:38 AM (oDRcK)

26 The old guy on the right, sitting, bent over, holding his flu bandanna, is so disinterested in the reading that he's admiring the nice parquet floor pattern.

Behind him, Henri the Hipster is toking a pin-joint.

And in the mirror, you can see the reflection of the photographer's flash.

We're looking at them, who are listening to him, whom we can't hear. Exciting!

Good morning. Maybe I need a 2nd cuppa covfefe.

"In one aspect, the invention is a resin blend. The blend comprises a low-molecular-weight, high-density polyethylene and a high-molecular-weight, low-density ethylene copolymer produced using a bridged indenoindolyl Group 4 metal complex having open architecture. The blend has a density from 0.94 to 0.96 g/cm3, a weight-average molecular weight (Mw) determined by conventional gel permeation chromatography (GPC) calculations greater than 200,000, and a viscosity enhancement factor (VEF), calculated from its melt viscosity (n*) at 190C and 0.025 radians per second, of less than 2. We surprisingly found that resin blends of the invention provide pipes with excellent stress crack resistance. Moreover, the improvement may be linked to a relatively low level of long-chain branching in the high-molecular-weight ethylene copolymer..."

52 At first I was ready to dismiss this painting as nothing much. Then I looked more closely. It may sound odd, but the colors used throughout are nice and attractive, even the woman's blue dress against the green of the walls. The figures seemed kind of waxen but they are so varied and individually drawn, I found myself composing stories for each one. Guess it pays to pay attention for more than a few seconds.

Check out the artist's Wiki page. He has some wonderful works, quite varied but all done well. A few reminded me of Norman Rockwell. They are worth the look.

He was born to a privileged life and became an academic. He is so busy showing us social injustices that he skips over warmth and humanity. ( when you are a hammer, everything looks like a nail)

For a number of years now, work has been proceeding in order to bring perfection to the crudely conceived idea of a transmission that would not only supply inverse reactive current for use in unilateral phase detractors, but would also be capable of automatically synchronizing cardinal grammeters. With C & P, Dostoyevsky should have had the murder scene take place closer to the start of the book, and skip a lot of his characters' babbling. However, I'd rather read their dialog than FD's long blocks of narration.

Forty years ago, a college roommate told me that whenever his father, who lived in San Diego, crossed over to Mexico in his vehicle he would toss a baseball bat in his trunk. Why? Because if he happened to get into an accident with another vehicle and it had Mexican plates, he'd get out the bat and give it a few good whacks. Why? Because it was pretty much guaranteed that the other vehicle had no accident insurance.

I doubt this would be a wise thing to do today.

More than possible. But I dunno. There's one thing Trump could do if he wins, and I hope he does. The moment the EC vote is certified, just cancel the federal state of emergency and remove and all extraordinary funding and state enablements through their emergency states. Just rip the band-aid off.

a relative with a small oil company went into a jury fight over an expired lease issue some years ago. First judge totally ignored the black letter law, made rulings giving the other side a win, he lost re-election, it got appealed, took years, finally my relatives side won in appeals court.

But the bottom line was that each side spent over $1 Million in litigation costs over a final award that came to $150,000. And yes, that is where the law really goes wrong in the American system.

It's easy to forget that one of things that made Secession attractive in 1860 was that the Federal Govm't was still very small and did relatively little. It was quite easy to see that it's replacement wouldn't do much to any citizen's lives on a day to day basis. But that is far from true today - the Fed Govm't is the Great Goodie Dealer that has at least half of the country completely addicted to what he doles out weekly. No junkie can ever fire their dealer.

If Trump wins, there will definitely be violence, but there's a fair
chance that it'll be majority blue on blue as Leftist factions begin
the Airing of Grievances and blaming each other for the absolute failure
of their movement.

If Biden wins, no US election will ever matter again, and everyone will know it.

Posted by: Cato, Collectivism Delenda Est at August 03, 2020 10:36 AM (JETnb)
Should Biden win, there will be violence too. Certainly there will be the grandstanding of which far left group gets to control the direction of their movement. But they will be coming for us - the Trump supports, Constitutionalists, etc. They will hunt us as if we were (and they will believe it) war criminals.
Count on it.

263 It's interesting to think about.
The governors of CA, OR and WA could seize the ports in their cities. Use Antifa to seize stores and distribution centers and they could last awhile. And include National Guard Armories.
But...
How many will go along with it in the police, NG and citizenry outside the cities.
I agree. It won't last long.
Posted by: Diogenes

They can seize ports. US Naval blockade. Nothing in or out.
Just because they "secede", doesn't mean the US gives up rights to territorial waters.

The site is a half a mile from the avenue where I can park, and it's 90 degrees out here at a minimum now. I need to get some more work (Because by munificent salary at the church (I kid!) is not doing enough and, the husband's school bus driving is up in the air, but I could not work in a place that required a mask all the time.

If they are choosing to go down that road, they'll get it directly from the manufacturers in quantity, and with all paperwork appropriately handled by law enforcement. They will also pay top dollar and ensure priority on production, second only to the US military and possibly fed law enforcement. Price is no object, and they own the system. In a worst case, one of their benefactors (or a group of them, I suppose) will just buy the manufacturers out and take the entire production.

They did. There were three challengers total.

They also grabbed about 5-10%, total, of each primary where they were on the ballot.
