Saturday Morning Coffee Break

1563203083_s58x5tl6tb.jpg

***

Good morning Morons, Lurkers, Horde family member and everyone in between. TGIS.

Open thread, opine and/or bloviate away. Just got a couple or rules. Please don't run with sharp objects, do not pull the 'ettes pony tails, no pissing in the pool and play nice with one another.

Have a great weekend.

My exercise this a.m. consisted of washing and spray-waxing the car as I dry it off, spraying a little satin-spray on the tires, etc. After that I staggered back into the A/C and detailed me. Good shave, pleasant breakfast.

36 My mother died last Sunday evening at age 93. She had a UTI that turned into sepsis and spread to cause pneumonia. She also tested positive for Kung Flu, though the doctors emphasized that, if she was Covid-positive, the typical markers weren't showing up in her blood work and they were absolutely certain that Covid was not a contributing factor.

Guess what my appears on my mother's death certificate? Yep, Covid.

Mom officially died of the Kung-Flu even though she had no symptoms or biological markers. And now my wife and I are deemed to have probable cases of Kung-Flu according to Texas and Collin County guidelines.

Ha! Mine comes close to that when I do my annual claying plus polish plus wax, but that won't be until the weather cools. Say, December or January, if I'm lucky. With my standard shine, I get a good reflection of the curb when the car is parked, and the roof reflects the trees and sky.

Claying is the big secret. Get the contaminants out of the paint, then polish and wax, and the car will look amazing. When I bought this Buick, it was glossy. But my first car wash revealed the paint was rough -- it had never been clayed.

Posted by: Duncanthrax at August 01, 2020 09:26 AM (DMUuz)

68 Werewolf of London on Svengoolie tonight! The first werewolf movie, 6 years before the Lon Chaney vehicle The Wolf Man, it features some very neat werewolf makeup. The story we heard for years was that actor Henry Hull refused to accept the full-face makeup, essentially the same used on Chaney later, because it would conceal his face; you know, the usual story about vain actors.

The truth was that Hull (a stage actor) read the entire script, and saw that in a later scene, another character recognizes Hull's scientist as the wolf man. A full-face makeup would have made that impossible. Hull was just following the logic of the screenplay, not being a prima donna.

For a while FBI was lying and said he's the reason we got FISA.

He pled to lying to FBI (apparently got a date wrong between two retellings) and got 14 days in prison

I think the guy got caught up in the bad business of the coup but apparently it didn't work out too badly for him because they sent a hawt Italian model after him and he married her.

Anyway, he's been parlaying that bit into an "I know things you people wouldn't believe" narrative.

Like I said, spill it.

A bit sketchy to me, TBH.

84 Just got back from a shopping trip to the drugstore and the produce store. First time shopping in about 10 days, I think. I hate it now. Every moment is a hostility-laden ordeal, from the moment I leave my door until the moment I get back home. It's not that people are hostile to me; *I'm* the one who's hostile and resentful, all the time, because of the stupid mask requirement.

Our Shopper's Drug Marts are set up so you walk into the perfume section first, and a person is at a counter right there to cheerily say Hi to you. I always used to respond accordingly. Now I walk by in dead silence. I see her as an enforcer of this rule, and I don't think I have to be polite to the camp guards.

91 Just got back from a shopping trip to the drugstore and the produce store.

Exactly. When this nonsense started, I made sure to tell the grocery workers and the clerks at Dollar Tree that I appreciated their work. That was in the dim dead time of pre-masks. Now I have nothing left to say and I just want to get in and out without a confrontation.

"Camp guards" -- good way to put it.

I did buy a Merkur Progress, the adjustable model, and it's excellent. This new one is an Italian make, the Fatip (pronounced Fa-TEEP), with the slant head that makes the blade more rigid and leads to a closer shave.

I don't need to worry about my nose or chin, as I wear a "Commander Riker" beard, and just shave around it and use a Wahl clipper to keep the lower edge sharp.

This new one is an Italian make, a Fatip [Fa-TEEP) with a slant head. But I have several vintage Gillettes dating from 1938, the late '40s, '53, '56, and '62, and use them all the time. Vastly cheaper than the modern multi-blade things, and they give a closer and smoother shave.

True, it does take longer. I used an electric Norelco for many years. But the head$$$ have to be replaced periodically, and the result was not very close or smooth.

It's possible to take very little time shaving: A can of Barbasol foam, DE razor, one pass or maybe two, rinse and aftershave, done. Now and then I do it that way. But the bigger production is more fun for me.

172 > Years ago wild doing some genealogy work my Aunt was incensed when we asked for her marriage certificate. We all didn't wonder why.

There's a harmless chemical substance that some people can taste and others can't, based on genetics.

Years ago, there was a popular high school biology experiment to have the kids and their parents, grandparents, and other relatives see if they could taste it, then use that to infer the genetic relationship.

They don't do that one any more. Too many embarrassing results.

176 My mother died last Sunday evening at age 93.

Yep, Covid.

--

Michael the Texan, first off, sincere condolences to you on the loss of your mom.

Secondly, my uncle mirrors this same story. My uncle, who had just turned 93 over a week ago, died the next day in the hospital. He had countless, very serious health issues and we all knew it was only a matter of time. He was failing fast from COPD, kidney issues, heart issues. Well, whatdoyaknow, he tests positive at the very end for Covid. So now, he's a Covid death statistic, when it contributed very little to his actual passing.

The only way to really see what your device is doing in terms of communication is to employ a network monitoring tool like Wireshark to see what kind of traffic is inbound/outbound on your machine. Then when he came back he didn't declare anything and the FBI...including the execrable Clinesmith...were waiting for him. "What's the money, Lebowski, where's money shithead?" ensued. But George had outsmarted him. So they created a lying to FBI charge. Bet he wishes he didn't plead guilty. Sundance is a smart guy and a very good researcher. He has dug up a lot of very important stuff that has contributed to understanding what really happened.

A while back he went down a rabbit hole of doom and gloom and started dragging everyone who wouldn't go with him. He now thinks there is an increasingly small chance that nothing will happen after months of saying nothing will happen and talking smack to anyone who disagreed. Once you cut through the BS that's all he is saying.

I've been thinking about this. Prisons are, as almost everyone knows, extremely segregated by race. The inmates group up by skin color and even sometimes subdivide within that (Sorrenos vs Nortenos), and relations between groups can go from benign neglect to outright low intensity warfare, depending on the circumstances.

All I can say is, I would not want to step onto a prison yard and have the neck-tattooed white boys find out that I beat up white people and burned down white businesses because Black Lives Matter-- and they *would* find out.

Fen is capable of reading the comment. And the Bible is replete with people P'Oed/disappointed at God so its hardly
anything new, and I've preached on it. Phillip Yancy is a modern writer with a book, "Disappointment with God" There's a guy in there who has almost everything imaginable go wrong with him and when Yancey asks he how he hasn't given up his faith he says "I try not to confuse life with God." God did not create the coronavirus. God did not cause people to act like lunatic animals in the cities that are being burned. Well Dennis said he had to ask about what happened to Roberts in his view. He said as a judge he had in Texas the exact case as the recent Mississippi case about abortion doctors, Roberts ruled in favor of Texas but was later shot down. Now Roberts changes his ruling 90 degrees. He thinks Roberts is really acting like a Politician ruling as public opinion goes. Personal cases where its really about one or very few he rules as a conservative, if it's a wide public case it gets the Leftist ruling.

My observation: we only thrive fighting for the next goal. You made your last one, getting that job, and now you are finding you can't just loll around eating grapes, you are set for the next goal.

Find that goal, start swinging for the fence, if it doesn't make you happier, it at least gives you something to do.

414 While the festivities were occurring in downtown Portland last night, a gang shootout occurred in a middle-class Portland neighborhood with more than 150(!) shots being fired. Only one person is known to be wounded, but eight apartments and seven cars were hit. This was apparently in retaliation for an earlier shootout at a memorial service elsewhere.

Remember, h8ers, Portland is absolutely serene and peaceful, if you ignore that shootings are up 400% over last year. Only Trump's minions are causing violence in Portland.

417 My mother died last Sunday evening at age 93. She
had a UTI that turned into sepsis and spread to cause pneumonia. She
also tested positive for Kung Flu, though the doctors emphasized that, if
she was Covid-positive, the typical markers weren't showing up in her
blood work and they were absolutely certain that Covid was not a
contributing factor.

Guess what my appears on my mother's death certificate? Yep, Covid.

Mom officially died of the Kung-Flu even though she had no symptoms
or biological markers. And now my wife and I are deemed to have probable
cases of Kung-Flu according to Texas and Collin County guidelines.

Just when it seemed to me Trump had turned the corner (for the better), too. He's at 50 JA in RAS, & Emerson today has the national race at Biden 50, Trump 46, which is a big improvement for Orange. Trump won with 46% & change in 2016.

The ad review is thought to be related to the recent replacement of Perscale (sp?) with Stepien. I worry Stepien is gonna go all GOPe respectable. Stepien had recently criticized the "tone" of Trump's beer virus comments-- before Stephen got promoted.
