The Morning Rant: Minimalist Edition

punk-monkey.jpg

The destruction of the traditional nuclear family is one of the goals of the progressive movement in America. How else can they create a society in which government is the primary caregiver? Push the wife into the job market, feed the kids at school, and be sure to teach them anal sex and how to put on condoms. Make them dependent on government for healthcare and food and shelter, and minimize religiosity, and what is the purpose of the family?

And when people flee the cities, which are ground-zero for this monstrous remaking of culture, where do they go? The suburbs, where zoning laws limiting high density housing, and the cost of living, prevent most wards of the state from exporting their dependence.

And we can't have that! It's just not fair that only blue cities have to accommodate the consequences of three generations of the welfare state!

Joe Biden's disastrous plans for America's suburbs

Biden’s plan is to force suburban towns with single-family homes and minimum lot sizes to build high-density affordable housing smack in the middle of their leafy neighborhoods — local preferences and local control be damned.”

Luckily President Trump ended the Obama catastrophe-in-the-making:

trumphousingtweet.jpg

This morning I brought the garbage to the curb, because my little town changed its procedures for pickup because of Chinese Lung Rot, and they don't go into people's yards to get the trash.

I noticed two teenagers running down the street, probably cross-country team members or maybe just out for an early morning run. They happened to be Black, which in my lily-White town is unusual. But not by design...unlike in the 1950s and 1960s when the real estate agents carefully avoided selling homes to Blacks and Jews. No, it's unusual simply because it's expensive to live in the NYC suburbs, and American Blacks have been hamstrung since the Great Society of the mid-1960s. For all I know their dads are venture capitalists or owners of their own businesses or garbagemen who worked two jobs to afford to live here. I don't know and I don't care. They and anyone else who can afford to live here are welcome. Because this is America.

Having government force zoning changes to accommodate high-density housing on the very people who worked to flee high-density housing is vile. Forcing private developers to build some percentage of low-income housing whenever they develop anything may be even worse.

Allowing communities to develop organically isn't up to government. Controlling how and where people can live doesn't just feel like totalitarianism; it IS totalitarianism. What's next? Government permits to relocate? Licenses for more than two children? Forcing empty-nesters to take in boarders from the slums?

This is disgusting social engineering, and I applaud President Trump for finally ending it. If you want a clear difference between Trump and Biden; here it is. I hope Trump hammers this home in every speech and campaign event. MAke those soccer moms who love their idyllic suburbs with carefully manicured lawns, and lots of space between houses, and clean safe schools, and no crime other than the occasional TPing of a house to face up to the undeniable fact that Biden and the Democrat party will destroy their way of life to regain the White House.

This is a perfect talking point. It's not a matter of race, it's a matter of hard work and perseverance and the desire to better one's self and one's family. Have a couple of minority families from the suburbs on stage with him while he extols the virtues of the American Dream, and then ask them why they live where they live? If they are recent arrivals then it may be because the idea of the Crips or MS-13 or a bunch of crank-dealing thugs roaming and owning the streets was unacceptable. And if they are 2nd or 3rd generation suburbanites it is because grandpa got out before LBJ's Great Society destroyed Black America.

But either way, shove Biden's dream to destroy traditional America down their throats. Alinsky was a smart man, and his techniques can be used by both sides!

37 Biden's plan is to force suburban towns with single-family homes and minimum lot sizes to build high-density affordable housing smack in the middle of their leafy neighborhoods

The Peninsula has been doing something like this for years. The "affordable housing" is then allotted to teachers, illegals, and other public employees but with some stipulations: you can't sell it for market price. The town always has control of the subsidized price, which may only rise 1% (if I recall) per year.

In other words, no American Dream for you!

38 The northern VA politicians rolled over in bed and told their developer buddies, " omg, that racist trump is hurting our bottom line."

Theyre squealing like stuck pigs. Theyve been telling us for years about how we need upzoning. Because "affirdable housing." And racist.

What they DO is gentrify the affordable housing that DOES exist and stick in 3 "units" of affordable housing, not section 8. Its still pricey.

Then they tell the homeowners to build stalking horse ADUs (granny flats) and plan punative taxes if you dont lay out capital for infill while ignoring infrastructure and while narrowing roads.

They ran out of land to develop. They want yours.

46 If cities and towns would stop sucking on the Federal teat they couldn't be blackmailed (is it okay to call it that?) into these zoning rules.

It's the usual, Federal money, taken from us in the first place and handed back like candy that "forces" communities to zone according to their rules.
It's the way they've been controlling the herd as long as I can remember, from the Drive-55 (and before) to today.

++++++++++++
Merely the first steps. It isn't that the blue cities cannot be the only bearers of consequences. Socialism in all of its forms - and perhaps totalitarianism in general (though most totalitarianism has been socialist, so it's hard to say) - is about the distribution of suffering. Not wealth, not opportunity. Suffering.

The cities suffer more than the suburbs. So the suburbs must must be made to suffer equitably. That is a good enough first step. But so-called "blue states" suffer more than "red states." Why not that for the next step after that? After all, we can't leave the redistribution of suffering to its own devices. Californians prefer certain formerly habitable parts of the Interior West and Texas. They need to be forcibly redistributed so as to ensure equitable suffering throughout the red states.

Eventually, this will peter out. Permits for relocation? Nyet, comrade. The migration tends to appeal to their desires. The problems will arise when it peters out. No, permits for relocation may come but they won't be necessary. Forcible relocation will be a much better answer. Forced migration according to the parameters of "social justice" will bring much more suffering to all. Much more than mere permits. Internal passports will come, too, once the suffering has become endemic.

Whatever policies will maximize suffering are the policies they will pursue, at whatever scale they think they can get away with.

Consider their perspective. It is all perfectly sensible, really. To them power *is* governance. The entire postmodern worldview is power and dominance. If they get power, the governance flows from it. It is one and the same. Governance is the expression of power and nothing more. Whatever they do is correct by definition, because they are powerful. The same people who decry US military activities truly believe, philosophically, that might makes right.

70 They tried this in my neighborhood in Houston, in IIRC 2016-2017. We are close to "Uptown" Houston and about 20-30 min from Downtown.
The area is one of the most diverse affluent areas in town--with many patio homes (semi-dense, i.e., houses on small lots) and more typical suburban houses. The public schools are good--esp. the elementary school--and naturally our taxes are high.
Many in the neighborhood were able to defeat this--even gaining support from our Dem mayor Sylvester Turner.
But under a Biden administration, I don't think we'd be successful at such a defeat.

Mind you, there was absolutely NO rationale for this as there are plenty of less expensive housing alternatives nearby given the laxness of Houston zoning. And fwiw, Houston is one of the most diverse cities in the USA--mostly happy because--drumroll--people are able to make a living.

The one thing I will hand to Saint Louis is that they acknowledged the reality of government housing tower blocks long before anyone else. They tore down Pruitt-Igoe long before most other cities finally followed suit. And Chicago only surrendered Cabrini Green when HUD forced their hands.

81 It goes beyond destroying the nuclear family.

Identity warfare (it's gone beyond mere politics at this point) is an effort to destroy all pre-existing identity.

Religious identity has been hammered for decades, the national identity is under assault, and the self is now in the crosshairs - evidenced by all of the authoritarian measures that make the individual seem powerless against the state.

All that will remain will be tribe/clan/subculture level identities, and those will be targeted once the rest are broken.

The idea is to destroy every affiliation and allegiance that pre-exists their imaginary utopia, and replace it with an ant's role in their collectivist hive.

This is an evil beyond words, and it must be opposed and destroyed by any means.

Sort of. I think she made it a couple of weeks. But it was a total debacle on multiple levels. It was indeed as dangerous and violent and decrepit as claimed. To protect the mayor, they had to armor her unit (steel doors, welded covers on ingress points, etc.). When she finally gave up and pulled out, the gang shot-callers looted the apartment and discovered just how cheaply and easily their units could be armored. And then much of the higher echelon gang areas became fortresses.

107 Trump wins the election if he can convince suburbanites of how much the Democrats hate suburbs.

This isn't a big secret - hatred of suburbs is taught in every university "urban planning" course.

They hate cars, and intend to make it prohibitively expensive to own and operate motor vehicles.

They hate good suburban schools, so they intend to flood the suburbs with Section 8 housing, because it is "unfair" that suburbs have good schools and the cities don't, even though the cities generally spend far more per student.

But above all, they hate - hate - single family housing. You should be forced to live in a 500 square foot high-rise apartment within walking distance of a mass transit station.

In my suburb, I can drive four miles to a light rail stop, and take the light rail into downtown Portland. They hate that too - they don't want any parking at light rail stops, because it makes it possible to live in a suburban house and use mass transit.

The point of this, of course, is control. Cars provide too much mobility, backyards provide too much privacy, and even though suburban schools are left-wing, they're not as insanely left-wing as the city schools.

Suburbanites need to understand that.

It's middle-class suburbs that are being targeted.

173 They are creating a parking crisis where there doesn't need to be one in hopes that this will "nudge" people into giving up their cars.

Portland loves approving "car-free" apartments without parking.

75% of the people in these apartments own cars, so street parking becomes impossible in areas where these apartments are being built. This is an intended consequence.

189 In my progressive city, there is pretty much a totalitarian building code.

So if a lot is 5000 sq ft and zoned R3 (Residential 3 unit), you can only build 2 houses because minimum size is 2500 sq ft per house even though zoned for 3 residential units. OK, I get that.

However if you put in 2 houses and an "affordable" housing unit you can build 3 units. Also your plans sail through the many, many building and zoning commissions.

BUT
If you put in 2 houses and 2 "affordable" housing units, that's OK too. because affordable.

We are already at changing the law for the less fortunate at the local level.

It's also the Feudal period in Europe. Lords had castles, townspeople had city walls which were sealed at night, and and the landed gentry (better than serfs, but no titles) mostly lived in fortified manor houses.

I remember reading an account during the fighting in Afghanistan, a US soldier had written of patrolling the countryside for Taliban and other fighters, and he said what made it so hard was that it was a land of 40,000 alamos. Every house in the entire country was heavily walled and fortified.

Meanwhile, buses are ALSO not running into the areas where industrial and commercial jobs are.

No restaurant that stays open late is going to let the waiter leave at 9:30, so he can catch the last bus home. Sorry, it doesn't work that way. But all you ever hear is the buses don't run to suburbia... where there aren't any jobs in the first place.

A country doesn't go from 200 M to 330M in a generation without some drastic loss of quality of life.

Because when you start having something worth owning, you start thinking 'sharing' it is a less good idea than when you had less and wished someone would 'share' with you. Plus the Middle Class pays it's bills and watches it's money, which is how they got to be and stay in, the Middle Class.
How the hell do you convince them the redistribution plan is GOOD for them? On average, you don't. So they need to be eliminated.

Wells intended for both groups to be de-evolved versions of modern humans, each inferior to us. In my progressive city, there is pretty much a totalitarian building code.

225 What is the purpose of the family?According to George Gilder, in 'Men and Marriage', it is to reign in men's violent impulses and focus his energy on building a better, secure society for his children. With marriage's assurance of paternity providing that incentive.

Without it, well you get the violent inner city dysfunction, and the white Anti-FA and spree shooter men not really caring about society in general, more concerned with their standing in their immediate pack. Usually established through aggression and strength. So, burn it down and tear it down whatever justification you state, is really simply about impressing those around you-- not improving society. Because, hell, as a single man you really don't need much to get by. Place to lay your head, beer in the fridge, and hanging out with your clan. Good times.

226 Here in Oregon we have Urban growth boundaries that restrict the city and suburban sprawl. The boundaries can be moved through a complicated process.

Because of mainly Californians fleeing their shit holes the available room to build single family homes is greatly limited. So now the cities are dropping appartment buildings with 4 to 8 units in people's backyards.

Of course this now fucks up the traffic, local school is bursting, and crime skyrockets.

I understand the reasoning behind the boundaries but like all commies it's used to punish.

It goes back to Marx himself, with his attacks on the "Bourgeoisie". Marx recognized that the middle classes mostly benefited from a laissez faire economic system and thus would never support violent revolution and a total social overhaul. Therefore, he, and all of those who have worked to implement his schemes like Stalin, Mao, and Pol Pot have recognized that wiping out the middle classes is ALWAYS the starting point for the total reworking of society, and creating the Great Socialist World.

So as to not understanding why they want to destroy the middle classes; you must see that this is in fact the most IMPORTANT part of their plan, it is the starting point for all the rest that they wish to bring about.

The middle class is subversive. The poor are dependent for their handouts. The rich are dependent for defense and maintenance of their positions.

But the middle is independent. The middle want to go their own way, go to work, get married, raise their families, put something aside for the future, and enjoy their liberty and freedom. The middle class is insanely dangerous. It's most dangerous manifestation - the independent family business - is hated most of all.

The middle class needs to be destroyed. There can be no independent people. Everyone must depend on the state, either for sustenance (the poor) or for protection (the rich).

We middle-class have enough money and gumption to say no to their demands to lick their boots. What they really want is an insurmountable wall between them and the lower class, so they can pay as little as they like for all the improvements and niceties.

Speaking of garbagemen, by the way, this is how I found out jobs were coming back: two weeks ago, our pick up was really late. I asked why.

Young guy said it was his first day; he didn't know. Old guy said a lot of workers got tired of ten-hour days and took jobs for a little more money elsewhere. So were down to two trucks for a while.

The funny thing is, segregating the prawns into a district of their own was the right thing to do. Because the prawns were hunting down humans and eating them. The movie glosses over that bit, but it's in there at the beginning.

No dates unless you sign the binding contract first.

323 Greetings:

Back in my Economics studying daze, I had a course in Urban Economics. The Professor used to enjoy saying that there were two important concepts in Mass Transit, mass and transit.

I grew up in the Bronx of the '50s and '60s. Our small neighborhood was mostly apartment buildings. The one I lived in had 35 apartments and took up half the block. The other half of the block was a similar edifice. That's what mass looks like.

From our building a three block walk in one direction got you too the IRT subway station and a three block walk in the other direction put you on the IND station.Three different buslines, two north and south, one east and west, cordoned off our "hood. That's what transit looks like.

If you don't have something similar, you're just digging a hole for the taxpayers' money to fall into.

Alas, marriage does not serve those functions anymore with rampant
cuckoldry and no-fault divorce being the order of the day. Part of the
whole destructive process. It exists, but it's been hollowed out and, in
fact, made into a massive liability if you're a man.
....
Which is why, unsurprisingly, more and more men are rejecting participating in the institution, often based on the experience of seeing what their and their friend's mothers put their families through. Many disassociated from their biological fathers, and following the path Gilder predicted- indulging in violence as part of some group having had no role models for exercising restraint

365 The destruction of the traditional nuclear family is one of the goals of the progressive movement in America.
________

I have one problem with that. It's not clear when family defenders speak exactly what is meant by "nuclear family". A lot of the time it does sound as if they think the standard TV families of the 50s and 60s are what they have in mind. And that wasn't EXACTLY what the traditional family meant. Hell, it wasn't quite accurate even for the Boomer upbringing I and my friends knew.

It leaves out grandparents - a big deal, historically - and Sir Joseph's "sisters and his cousins, Whom he reckons up by dozens, And his aunts!"

I'm also a bit puzzled at how often our side falls into the trap of buying their line that it is a "Western" institution. Tell that to Asians.

Of course, the attack is real, and needs to be repelled. I just am wary of how much our side FAILS to attack among their claims.

382 Late in the thread, but I wanted to share an observation I had. Related to "Trump shot down on DACA" screeches and Trump saying "okay, but DACA is closing lol".

It occurred to me that constant Eeyoring on Trump failing to implement something or having done a "betrayal" in retreat and reconsolidation is because all other Republicans have acted in bad faith, for our whole lifetimes.

Every time they've brought something up for "defeat", most of the time on purpose, it has been followed by a wringing of hands. "Nothing we can do, sorry, we lost". Trump, on the other hand, is willing to use a "defeat" to publicize or message on an issue, actually tries things with uncertain outcome, and retrenches when pushed back, finding other ways to go around.

Nowhere is this more apparent than on the wall. He promised a wall, he has been using every hook and crook to get one.

This is, incidentally, why Ann Coulter is a gasbag. Each time Trump has been "defeated" on the wall, she has claimed the battle lost and therefore the war. She has no concept of a tactical retreat or continued commitment to a cause by all means necessary because she'd rather talk about it. She bizarrely seems incapable of realizing Trump Isn't That Kind of Republican.

...but maybe she is.

386 Most zoning rubs me the wrong way. And I roll my eyes extra hard at NIMBYs.

I think that a mix of housing would generally be the best thing, but note that's not shoving a government housing project into suburbs. It's more like having the odd, posh, two or four unit condo in the expensive neighborhood because single professionals might not need the 4 bed room mini-mansion. Or maybe allowing residential development next to places that people work, including the groceries or bodegas and corner deli so people can buy food.

How the hell do you convince them the redistribution plan is GOOD

The means for anyone to reach a modicum of self-sufficiency is available to all, or at least it was. There's no need for me to give away any of my stuff when someone else can do what I did and get it for themselves legally and peacefully. I didn't take anything away from anyone else to get what I have. In fact, I helped make others more prosperous while climbing the economic ladder.

This Marxist notion of a 'zero-sum game' needs a lot of pushback. It ignores the entire idea of creating wealth for everyone.

Again, it boils down to hatred of others and the insane need to control what someone else does. That is satanic, purely and simply.
