Conservative, Inc.: Ohio GOP Speaker of the House Arrested in Massive, Massive Bribery Scandal

All the grotesquely fat grifters getting rich off our votes...

This "Republican" Corporate Accounts Servicer was the lead grifter in a $60 million bribery ring, taking money to push through a bailout for... nuclear power plants.

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) -- The powerful Republican speaker of the Ohio House and four associates were arrested Tuesday in a $60 million federal bribery case connected to a taxpayer-funded bailout of Ohio's two nuclear power plants.

Hours after FBI agents raided Speaker Larry Householder's farm, U.S. Attorney David DeVillers described the ploy as likely the largest bribery and money-laundering scheme that had "ever been perpetrated against the people of the state of Ohio."

Gov. Mike DeWine, also a Republican, called on Householder to resign immediately, saying it would be impossible for him to be an effective legislative leader given the charges against him. The head of the Ohio Republican Party, the state attorney general and the Senate president also urged Householder to step down. The leaders of the House Republican Caucus called the allegations shocking but stopped short of asking Householder to resign.

So they're running the 1997 Democrats playbook on Clinton, where they call it "simply indefensible" but then defend it?

Householder was one of the driving forces behind the nuclear plants' financial rescue, which added a new fee to every electricity bill in the state and directed over $150 million a year through 2026 to the plants near Cleveland and Toledo.

...

Investigators said Householder controlled Generation Now, a group that received $60 million from an unidentified company over the past three years. In exchange, Householder and the other defendants worked to pass the nuclear plant bailout and block attempts to overturn it, according to a criminal complaint filed by the FBI.

Three other human criminals were charge, including Matthew Borges.

Who's Matthew Borges?

He's an avatar of the Conservative, Inc. grifter class:

Matthew Borges, 48, of Bexley
Former Ohio Republican Party chairman Matt Borges founded a super PAC to elect Democrat Joe Biden.

...

He made headlines just last month for announcing he would be voting for Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden and creating a PAC to help defeat President Trump.

These people were never conservative nor even merely "Republican."

They just liked feathering their nests with corporate money.

It's time to purge them.

As a start.

Pay attention, Ohioans. Put someone decent in place. You have been given a great gift here. Don't squander the opportunity.

Worse.

"A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murderer is less to fear. The traitor is the plague." -- Marcus Tullius Cicero

What, EXACTLY have "conservatives" conserved over the last 50 years? Anything? We need a new brand, and a new focus. We can't keep doing the same things over and over and over again and expect something different. 220 I was just looking over my library. I noticed some of my Roman histories and historical fiction set in Rome.

There is nothing new in any of this. Except, perhaps, in occasionally arresting one. The Romans had corruption baked in, for by rising to high office, one had to spend a shit ton and would thus rob a shit ton +1.

People who run for office are mostly crooked, greedy, power hungry perverts. It always has been so and always will be.

That's why we need to keep power from them as much as possible. You can be a free people only if you don't give you freedom, and your money, to these grifters.

Hopefully someday a culture will figure that out. And, hopefully, won't get eaten by some asshole country that doesn't care about that shit and just makes a big ass army.

A balanced budget where all agencies have a zero budget that's not some carryover from the previous fiscal year.

No public unions under any circumstances.

Absolute equality under the law and if a few high-profile pols go to jail or get executed, then that's just too fvcking bad for them. They should've thought about that before they decided to break the law.

A self-contained America that produces as much as possible right here, the goal being to have the world's highest standard of living.

Listened to Hannity interviewing O'Reilly on radio earlier today, and they've both drunk the Kool-Aid (masks, social distancing, keep the country shut down, vaccine a'coming) -- freakin' idiots, had to turn it off.

259 14 Does OH have the worst GOP in the country? I mean, taking everything into account. The governor - wow, an idiot on the Newsom or Cuomo level. Now this.

Kind a pointless academic question, but kind of curious.
=============
As a Buckeye, I can answer that. No, we don't have the worst state GOP, but we live in the house that Taft built. That is to say, have a high number of GOPe "country club" Republicans who don't care about social issues or the Long March or the fact that the 5 largest cities are being turned into economic donuts by Democrat mayors and councils. As long as the taxes are low and there is a minimum of red tape binding their investments. it's good. Jealous of their power, they shut down Ken Blackwell (the anti-Obama from Cincinnati) over a decade ago, and with Kasich in the lead they snapped at Trump's ankles in 2016. (Trump still won the state, because he visited 3 times and the Hildabeast dissed the Appalachian counties which were usually Democrat.)

Term limits 1990. Amnesty 1986. Last Republican governor in probably forever elected 1990, kept the incumbent advantage in 1994. (I don't count Schwarzennegger.)

I think the decline is attributable to something else, but it's true, Willie Brown and (the hopes of) Antonio Villaraigosa are examples of how moving around the board can keep an elitist crook in power beyond the intentions behind term limits.

I'm thinking on the federal level. Maxine Waters, that type. I know there are constitutional hurdles and there's some unfairness to it, but the professional political class is the greater threat.

383 I think the logic on NeverTrump is this...

They had a good thing going, the uniparty had everything nicely arranged so that everyone on the inside at least had a nice comfortable job, if not also becoming filthy rich off bribery and graft. Plus legal but ethically questionable practices like trading off information that only they knew about.

Both sides would pander to their base (left and right) promising to fix the things their base care about (e.g. abortion on one side, racial grievances on the other). But they all were in on the game that they would make lots of noise, but not accomplish anything of significance. So everything just kept going, continuing resolution after continuing resolution, slow advancement of socialism through the administrative state, conservatism inc tsk tsking about it, while getting their donation checks from their subscribers and people going on their cruises.

Then something happened that they never expected. The voters, including many historically Democrat voters, said "you know what, we voted twice for the black guy because you told us it would heal all of the animosity, but yet again you all did nothing for us, so fuck you, we are voting for the outsider".

People like Katshit and the rest of the NTers figured there was no downside to opposing Trump, that he couldn't win. Hillary would keep the same scam going that has been going on since at least 1988, if not longer.

Now here we are in 2020 and they have the same theory. They aren't bothered by the leftist platform of Biden, because they think he is just lying to keep the leftist engaged and voting for him. All of the institutions are lined up trying to force us all back into the box that let them run their scams and line their pockets. Corporations, media, tech, etc, etc all want to go back to the days when we didn't know what we know now.

And that is the dilemma for this election. Can they keep the chaos up long enough for people who voted for Trump to sit home. Essentially bully them or terrorize them enough to give up, roll over, and allow the administrative state to run the country.

I always come back to the question. Who will vote for Biden in 2020 who voted for Trump in 2016? Either there are new voters for Biden who didn't vote in 2016, or Trump voters stay home, or Trump voters change their vote to Biden. Those are the only 3 ways that Biden can win (and yes I know someone will say even more massive fraud than 2016).

I just don't see the scenario that gets them to that outcome. And yes the polls say Biden is ahead by 14 or something stupid like that. But believing those polls is the same as believing any other institution that has been shown to be lying to us.
