Covid Credibility Lost – Contradictory Epidemiology Pronouncements & Fraudulent Statistics
[Buck Throckmorton]

I’m not a “Covid denier.” It has clearly killed an awful lot of people, especially in nursing homes where it was introduced and allowed to run rampant. But I’ve also learned that I cannot believe a single thing being told to me by the journalists, politicians, and epidemiologists constituting Team Covid.

Let’s start with Anthony Fauci, who despite his inability to keep his contradictions straight, is still revered for whichever contradictory position he takes on a daily basis.

In mid-February, when overseas reports about the Wuhan Virus were getting pretty scary, Fauci told us “There is no reason for anyone right now in the United States, with regard to coronavirus, to wear a mask”.; It was a Scientific Fact™ that masks don’t help.

More. Fauci: Risk of coronavirus in USA is 'minuscule'; skip mask and wash hands

Scientific Facts™ change fast when the political winds dictate, however, so Fauci’s previous scientific ramblings about masks were discarded for new and more politically helpful scientific pronouncements. Fauci says ‘everyone’ should wear masks to curb spread of coronavirus

How about Fauci and hydroxychloroquine? Well, he’s consistently inconsistent.

The Virology Journal – the official publication of Dr. Fauci’s National Institutes of Health – published what is now a blockbuster article on August 22, 2005, under the heading “Chloroquine is a potent inhibitor of SARS coronavirus infection and spread.”

By May 2020, however, Fauci found his tribe demanding he get in line with Team Anti-HCQ, so he obliged. Fauci: Hydroxychloroquine not effective against coronavirus

Of course, by July it had become clear that HCQ is effective, Treatment with Hydroxychloroquine Cut Death Rate Significantly in COVID-19 Patients, Henry Ford Health System Study Shows. So all sides are now in general agreement that when it comes to HCQ, Fauci is an addled old man who can’t keep his stories straight. But aside from that, he’s still the world’s smartest man, especially when he says anything anti-Trump.

But it’s the reporting on tests, deaths, and hospitalizations that have caused me stop believing a single word that is published.

People who die of anything can be counted as a Covid death so long as they posthumously test positive for it. Man who died in motorcycle crash counted as Covid-19 death in Florida.

From the mouth of Deborah Birx, if someone dies of a disease other than Covid, but that person has Covid, it counts as a Covid death.

"There are other countries that if you had a pre-existing condition, and let's say the virus caused you to go to the ICU [intensive care unit] and then have a heart or kidney problem, some countries are recording that as a heart issue or a kidney issue and not a COVID-19 death. The intent is ... if someone dies with COVID-19 we are counting that."

By that logic, every old man who dies of whatever morbidity could be classified as a prostate cancer death, because most old men have some cancer cells in their prostates.

What about those who once had Covid but are now Covid-free? In England that counts as a Covid death, no matter what the actual cause of death.

And of course, if someone died and you simply want to assume he died of Covid, the CDC supports that.

Bukacek refers to a March 24 CDC memo from Steven Schwartz, director of the Division of Vital Statistics for the National Center for Health Statistics, titled “COVID-19 Alert No. 2.”
“The assumption of COVID-19 death,” she says, “can be made even without testing. Based on assumption alone the death can be reported to the public as another COVID-19 casualty.”

And then there’s the testing. Nothing amiss here…

Dozens of Florida labs reporting 100% positivity for Covid tests. Gosh, you’d almost think they were incentivized to produce positive results with an outcome like that.

In California, antibody tests (which test if someone previously had Covid) have been rolled in to the total of active Covid tests.

In Texas too. Is Texas Inflating Its COVID-19 Testing Numbers by Including Antibody Tests?

And in Hamilton County Tennessee, the published number of Covid-positive hospital patients includes those who are merely suspected of having Covid.

“The total number of hospitalizations also includes people who are at hospitals awaiting test results for suspected infection.”

Some of this is deliberate fraud. Some of this is well intentioned fraud. Some of this is merely incompetence by the people in charge, fueled by a credulous media trying to report a story to further the partisan political agenda of panic and hysteria.

A pandemic is the wrong time for our media and scientific elites to be engaged in such fraudulent behavior. But they are. And I no longer believe a word they say.

12 willowed:

Funny story and I'll probably get willowed:

Lib CEO comes in my office this morning.

Starts telling me about an incident at one of our inpatient units this weekend. Group gathered in parking lot, one pulls gun. Just happened to be a uniformed cop visiting a family member. Gun puller gets arrested, handcuffed...then takes off running. Getaway car pulls up but he can't open door to get in because handcuffs. Cop tazers him.

CEO must have shown up onsite shortly after the cop stuff. Another car pulls in, rolls window down about an inch. CEO informs them this is private property and they can't be here to shoot their rap video. Yes, that's what they were doing with gun and all that. Person tells CEO, "what do you mean this is private property? We can be here!" Cops were still present, so person left.

Now, that parking lot, overlooking Lake Erie with lovely manicured gardens for staff and patients/families has to be blocked off after 5PM every night.

Lib CEO didn't seem to like when his beloveds starting making trouble on the property. Imagine that.

What that means for me right now is, I live in a building with a coin laundry and cannot do laundry. I've always ran down to the nearest laundromat and stuck a 20 in the coin machine every now and then, but their machines and every other laundry in town's machines have been dry for a week. No stores will sell them to you. I've had 2 service desk people tell me their store is asking their employees to bring in their own change for reimbursement because the stores need it so bad.

29 I've said this before, but I will repeat it because it's on this topic. As near as I can tell, there are no good data about COVID. It has all been polluted. Moreover, the best information I have seen about COVID from the admittedly polluted data - efficacy judgement, prediction, etc - has been from industry. This industry has been high finance and insurance (which are awfully similar to each other).

I have begun to think - and I may be convinced, though I am unsure - that formal or official epidemiology is useless. Perhaps worse than useless, so far as its politically-motivated operators drive policy. Why don't we do away with official epidemiology during crises, or at least subordinate it? In the event that we need such services - which are basically a subset of statistics - why not ask for the best statisticians available to help? We have many, and they are well-compensated. They are actuaries. Their track record is successful, insofar as our insurance companies are not bankrupt (and that is the closest way I can think of to prove a counterfactual or a negative).

If we have a crisis, ask our top insurance and finance companies to led their best actuaries to the government program - though under current management and employment, basically a new project - as a public service. They would do so, and we would get far better and more accurate outcomes from the best people this country has to offer.

Well, the term "homicide" only means there were human means involved. It doesn't imply murder.

Except idiots think it does.

Likewise, if one makes a case that someone WITH this virus belongs on some statistical chart somewhere, fine. I can accept that... but then somebody's got to make the distinction: "We have no idea how many of these people would have died with or without the virus, so we're not really saying this is the cause of death."

39 Greetings:

I got off the God-Doctor Fauci bus when, with his chin firmly planted on the podium, he declared the work of the French Doctor Didier Raoult as "anecdotal" in his effort to disparage those findings.

Anyone who has read through the scientific method more than once should realize that when one is confronted by a new "novel" virus, it's anecdotal data or no data at all. Novel viruses don't come with a handy-dandy data guide on a USB drive.

For Fauci to diminish Raoult's work with the dreaded Hydrochloroquine when the former had nothing in his medical tool and noting in the Pharma pipeline was pretty much medical malpractice in my eyes.

They are, but it isn't a fair comparison (to auto deaths). The seasonal flu might be a fair comparison. But there might be no fair comparison. Our decisions are not without opportunity cost. The response has costs. Significant, perhaps existential costs. The question isn't necessarily "can we stop or prevent this" (I don't know. I doubt it, but I don't know) but "is the cure worse than the disease?"

I suspect that the cure is worse than the disease.

72 Let's talk about "confrimed and probable" cases. During Swine flu pandemic, CDC started to lump not only confirmed, but probably cases. From CDC archives : On May 4, 2009, CDC shifted from reporting confirmed cases of 2009 H1N1 to reporting both confirmed and probable cases of 2009 H1N1. At that point, more than 98% of "probable" flu virus samples were testing positive for 2009 H1N1, indicating the ever-growing scale of the outbreak. Probable cases were reported to CDC by state health departments and occurred in people who tested positive for influenza A and negative for seasonal influenza A(H1N1) and A(H3N2) subtypes at their state health department laboratory, but whose samples had not had confirmatory testing for the 2009 H1N1 influenza virus."

Is this what is happening now ?

93 The numbers need to be filtered and treated with suspicion. Including the fatality numbers.

But there's an over-arching failure/problem here that isn't raised in the post, which nicely summarizes some, not all, of the serious issues with "official" info, statements, etc.

There is almost nothing we can do about any of it. An infectious respiratory virus of this sort will run its course, which will vary in places and times. Period.

There is almost no correct analogy to changes in auto safety. The only actions that might affect numbers - without a comprehensive shut-down of society (far, far more stringent than anything we've seen) for an indefinite period, involve isolating the vulnerable, and improving treatment to reduce case fatality rate.

Logically, inexorably, obviously, that is it. Otherwise, the virus will virus, and spread until it reaches a natural barrier, called herd immunity.

Which happily may be as low as 20%, or lower.

Actual epidemiology and history recognize the key fact - you can't contain most viruses - and that's why all the "mitigation" efforts, which result in the economic and social wreckage (and excess deaths from other causes, including deferred medical care), are the radical experiment. Sweden is the conventional approach, almost everywhere else is the radical - failed - experiment.

He and my SIL seem to think this is the second coming of the bubonic plague, smallpox and the Spanish flu. He then said it's all PDT's fault because he's been wrong on every pronouncement he's made since March or whenever all this crap started. But Fauci and Birx have been spot on. I was gobsmacked and didn't think to ask for details on what PDT's been so wrong about. He and my SIL believe that PDT should have stepped in and told all of the states what to do. This would have stopped the politilization of Covid. I pointed out that the state are independent, part of a federation and PDT cannot tell them what to do. National emergency I suppose. BIL continued to refute anything I tried to add to the conversation and then the mask crap started up. Everyone needs to wear masks and it will be the panacea to rid us of this meddlesome Covid. So I asked how exactly does the "fashion mask" that I wear that has zero medical backing help stop Covid? I wear it because I have to have a mask. I was informed that it does more good then I would think. Really! How? I'm not sick so I'm not stopping the spread. At my age I have a .004% chance of getting the WuFlu in OH. The mass in my left breast that is being monitored has a higher percent of being cancer then my chance of getting the Chinese lung rot and I'm supposed to stop my life for Covid.

HCQ changes the pH of the cell surface to slightly alkaline, and thus retards the ability of the virus to enter the cell (the virus prefers a slightly acidic environment).

Secondly and probably more important, HCQ (and some other drugs) act as an ionophore, assisting Zinc in penetrating the cell. Zinc kills the virus by disrupting the RNA transcription to the cellular DNA.

Your own cells generally want to keep Zinc out, because it can have some negative effects on normal DNA replication, etc. But Zinc is toxic to most viral RNA, and can be effective against the common cold, also.

Our institutions and are based on being high-trust. But, as you say, that is fading out and doing so quickly. What we increasingly have is a zero-trust society. And the only mechanism that works in a zero-trust system is imposition and enforcement. Which is why we're getting imposition and enforcement. Practically, the people doing the imposing and enforcing want the power and never want to let it go, but philosophically this is the only option when you go zero trust.

They made this inevitable by spending the last couple of generations lying about absolutely everything. Zero trust is a bitch.

last week a guy called into a local talk show and said that he looked over his statement from a recent doctor's visit and noticed that a COVID 19 test was on the statement. He never got tested for COVID, and called the doctor's office. The staff gave him some runaround gobbledgook and basically blew him off, saying he wasn't charged, so why is he complaining?

Lotta perverse incentive there for hospitals that lost tons of money during the shutdown. Sweet old Mrs. Johnson is coming in for knee replacement that she should've had back in April. Give her a Covid test, for safety you know and, Shazam!!! We got another Covid hospitalization, forward the result to the local Health Department and make sure to file it with Medicare as Covid-19.

144 Buck did a good round-up, but as others are adding, there are even more problems with "case" numbers.

AND death numbers, of course.

But even leaving the death tabulation issue aside, how about looking at it substantively?

It appears 90%+ of deaths are of people who already have a serious medical condition. The average age is very high. The remaining life expectancy at death of these fatalities is fairly short. That's why an actuarial look at "life years lost" produces such small numbers, for such a "crisis".

It's almost a statistical certainty that, in the end, this epidemic will have shifted the timing of deaths, but not greatly affected their numbers. That is how skewed the demographic impact, by age, is.

146 OK, after drill snaking my kitchen sink a friend called who was the chief pharmacist at a hospital and after caught up I asked him about HCQ.

This guy knew more about the medicines than the doctors prescribing them because that was his field. He goes to tell me that there are some slight dangers to using HCQ but that from everything he has seen/read it is a very viable counter to the CV19. The danger is that HCQ can affect your heart by making the time it sucks in blood (I forgot the correct terminology probably a doctor here would know) longer than normal and can cause problems.

The other thing which I found interesting but way over my head was that many new drugs are processed in the liver. With so many people on some type of drug the interactions between them is very difficult to predict. He said it was not this way even 30 years ago where drugs didn't all metabolize in the liver and acted more directly.

It was informative up to where he got in the weeds.. and I downed my second rum and coke.

Checking with your Physician if you're worried about contracting the Fraud is the foremost symptom that you are already infected with the Fraud.

Do not take the Fraud if you are allergic to any of the above symptoms, or are allergic to it's elements such as riots, violent crowds, property destruction and injuring your fellow Citizens or Police.

there's more to this point - it relates to death counts on this

so if you had a positive COVID result ever, there is no amount of time specified for how long it is considered active.

so, old guy gets the rona, recovers, then 5 months or 6 months later dies of a heart attack completely unrelated to COVID which is long past. doesn't matter! there's no expiration date on the virus. he's a COVID death.

181 And you may test positive up to *12 weeks* after you've been infected/recovered.

Adding one enormous problem to the "operational" utility of testing data, in terms of judging the epidemic's path.

Which is why hospitalization and death rates are better metrics for that.

And guess what path they trace?

The same one as all other actual metrics, of this and any other epidemic, ever.

It always comes back to that, it shouldn't proceed *beyond* that - there is very little that can be done, and the path the epidemic will follow is already known, and it's called a Gompertz function or curve. And that's what this one is doing, of course.

+++++++++++
I doubt that's the reason, though it may be a serendipitous (for them) side effect.

As for why there's a coin shortage, I suspect it is three-fold:
- Reduced mint output because of the 'Rona
- Reduced overall commerce resulting in lower circulation (and important recirculation)
- People, even credulous and trusting people, are looking around and their lizard brains are screaming "Danger, Will Robinson! Danger!" Regardless of anything else, I suspect there is a *lot* of hidden "prepping" going on and people are socking away money in the First National Sock, further reducing circulation.

Today, the science on masks hasn't inverted, despite what you've heard. What has changed is that in our desperate hope for a solution to our national misery, we've become conditioned to find comfort in the promises of mask routines, despite our knowing that they are little more than theatrics.

As such, mask mandates have become the politically safe option for politicians.

When I was tending bar, our boss would always have us pay customers back in 50 cent pieces. With the exception of the guys would pocket them for their kids, most people would look at them oddly, then throw them back into the tip jar, where if they were paid back change in quarters or singles, they would have kept the change.

273 From my perspective, the big problem for coin change is that part of the Wuhan Flu propaganda is official pleas to refrain from using cash and to use cards only. Cash is unarguably dirty. So more people don't purchase with cash, and thus don't get coin change. The velocity of currency exchange drops and so fewer coins are in circulation.

Posted by: Old Dude at July 27, 2020 01:10 PM (LGXGf)

276 Literally none of the "tools" being used to "slow the spread" or "save lives" has any scientific basis.

Masks have been studied for virus control for decades, no evidence they are effective.

Lockdowns not magically done in advance of introduction of a virus do not work, and these haven't worked, either - and that includes "slowing the spread" for operational reasons to not exceed medical capacity. Unless you can prevent introduction of the virus into your society entirely, almost nothing you do makes any difference.

To put it in terms that ace once called the "strong case" - aside from shielding the specially vulnerable, or nearly instantly developing dramatically more effective treatments, *none* of the extreme measures that are on the menu make any material difference.

The technical incompetence, even illiteracy, of most of the public health response, is the much more important part here.

283 I looked up one of the "COVID" tests at Quest Diagnostics. It tests for IgG, immunoglobulin G, an antibody.

It is NOT a COVID test, even though it is labeled as such. IgG antibodies result not just from COVID infections, but ALSO from infections other than COVID.

************

Ummm. No.

Antibody tests for specific infections are designed to detect specific IgG or IgM molecules that develop during the body's immune response to either infection or vaccination. The COVID antibodfy tests are not testing for random IgG, they are testing for COVID specific IgG.

No medical test is 100% accurate. There are four categories of test result.

1. People who have the condition or criteria you are testing for (in this case COVID-19 IgG antibodies) and have a positive test result. These are known as TRUE POSITIVES.

2. People who have the condition and have a negative test result. These are FALSE NEGATIVES.

3. People who don't have the condition but have a positive test result. These are FALSE POSITIVES.

4. People who don't have the condition and test result is negative. These are TRUE NEGATIVES

The usefulness and interpretation of any particular test depends on the interplay between these four categories, and there are many factors affecting the analysis.

289 I started getting the sense that the numbers of China virus cases and deaths were being jiggered over a month ago. Of course, you have to take what you see on the Internet with a big grain of salt, so...

Then a few weeks ago I get a call from my ex, who tells me about a cousin of hers who had just died. He was in his 80s, and had dementia, but otherwise was in pretty good health. But then he came down with a kidney infection. He is admitted to the hospital, tested for the virus at that time, and his results were negative (no Covid). He spent three days in ICU, gets better and is moved to a regular room. Less than 24 hours later he died. Cause of death was listed as China virus. He didn't even have the virus in his system 4 days before and now he's died from it?

Come to find out, from my doctor, what Buck described above is just what is happening. Hospitals all over the country are listing, regardless of the actual cause of death, cause of death when their patients die as Covid. Seems that a lot of these hospitals have been really short of money due to their not being allowed to do elective procedures for so long, and they get cash from the government for every Covid patient they treat, whether they live or die.

Then of course there was that case of the guy in Florida who died in a motorcycle accident who was also listed as having died from the China virus. Obviously this explains why the numbers of cases and deaths from Covid are so wildly inflated. And yes, it is all about getting Trump, and a lot of people have already figured this out.

(An interesting aside, also told this by my doctor at the same visit; George Floyd did NOT die from having that cop's knee on his neck. The cause of death was heart failure, due to high levels of fentanyl and methamphetamine in his system. I'm not saying that what the cop did was right, far from it. But that cop didn't kill him.)

The consensus is:
1) How do you know it's antifa?
2) Russia is still a thing
3) Science baby! Oh, and gender is a social construct
4) Christianity is a cult, some aren't wearing masks - RRrEeee!
5) If you're caught in an intersection, you've "driven into a crowd" and mean them harm - so don't think about protecting yourself

The mob is now going after the guy in Austin who protected himself. The goon with the rifle is being painted as some sort of saint. Because black wife in wheelchair. Twatter of course is being used as a forum to dox the guy, they're already posting info from him, starting with his license plate.

Of course, first it was the guy was only pointing a rifle at him, then he was just "shooting in his direction" because of course the guy was trying to slaughter them all. Then he shot first (nice trick). They either drink their own kool-aid or just lie to whip the others into a frenzy.

The dude in Eugene? I saw the full video (google is suppressing it). Apparently, he'd already been stopped and assaulted, pulled a gun, the crowd backed off. He followed their instructions to turn right and GTFO of here. Well, he did. Only, he was stopped a dozen yards later, where the other antifa pulled his gun.

I'd have blown his face all over the rest of these clowns. Poor guy just kept saying get away, leave me alone. His wife in car scared to death. But again, twatter is there for these people to plan doxxing him (plates posted) and he gets to live in fear for the foreseeable future.

They write a bunk article claiming a large survey shows that hydroxychlorquine is ineffective. Lancet publishes the article. WHO cites the article in the "respected" Lancet and tells the world to stop using HCQ.Switzerland stops the use of HCQ. Two weeks later Lancet is forced to withdraw the phony article. Switzerland resumes use of HCQ. There is a stop date and a resume date. With a one week lag there is a perfect square wave pulse of excess deaths in Switzerland.
Back in the bar the part time porn star and the con man are yucking it up because they got their payoff.

Lancet now is as respectable as a $2 whore with gonorrhea, so Fauci sites another article from them to tell us face masks work. 75% of medical journal articles are non-reproducible trash.

I am familiar with India and everybody gets treated with hydroxychloroquine there as a standard treatment as soon as they get the fever and test positive for COVID-19 aka the Wuhan Chinese coronavirus.

It does not help AFTER the patient needs hospitalization, which is 10-14 days after the patient gets the fever.

Bullshit. The only way there is a coin shortage, is if the government is pulling them out of circulation. Remember the economy has shrunk, so that would cause a coin glut, not a shortage.

I am old enough to remember the last time they cried "Coin Shortage" which was in 1964. They did that because they wanted to pull the silver content out of dimes and above. They wanted to do that so they could inflate the currency.
That is part of what this "coin shortage is about now. Already the copper content of a penny is worth more than a penny. That acts as a check on the governments ability to inflate the currency.

399 The sad thing is -well, one sad thing among MANY during this Covid DemPanic- that the NeverTrumpers really DO have blood on their hands.

Just because Trump suggested that hydroxychloroquine "looks promising", the entire medical establishment of the USA went on a binge of "No-no-no,
that's Double-Plus-Ungood, dangerous side effects!, ineffective!, untested!, Thou-Shalt-NOT".

They killed people, for politics.

And by taking that political stance, they've lost all credibility. Who can believe a word they say any more? They're not doing medicine, they're doing #Resistance.

Posted by: Doo-Dah, Doo-Dah at July 27, 2020 01:57 PM (m0byr)

400 379 Let's put politics aside for 2 minutes! I know, not that easy, but bear with me.

Main takeaway? Don't wait. Insist on it or find a doctor who will give it to you asap.

I'm just coming off of fighting Covid for the last 3 weeks, and everyone in my household got it-- wife, kids, and even my 80-yr-old fil who lives next door. The kids rebounded after 1 1/2 weeks, but me and mz cornbred got our doc to prescribe hydroxychloroquine and z-pack for us and fil. We are all now recovered, despite pharmacists at Walmart refusing to fill the prescription and the pharmacist at the mom and pop pharmacy giving me a strong warning about hydroxychloroquine.

Turn the Walmart pharmacist in to the state medical board. That was practicing medicine without a license. Make a complaint to the police for attempted murder.
Want to know how to fight back against the left? Kneecap their foot soldiers, like that pharmacist.

402 Re the testing, something else I heard mentioned on the radio this morning is how the media confuses positive test results with COVID cases. Saying that 1,000 people tested positive for coronavirus is not the same as saying there are 1,000 new cases of the COVID-19 disease. The disease has very distinct characteristics. But, the media would have you think they're one in the same.

It's kind of like HPV, I think, where millions of people have the virus, but, for most, it will go away without them every knowing they had it. For a small number, it will turn into something worse.

404 I'm working at a hospital in NJ, right now. Just got the daily roster report. 11 Covid patients, 1 on a vent. Rest of the hospital is at 55 percent capacity.

405 The best way to stay on top of the latest data regarding coronavirus is to realize that EVERYONE is lying about the whole thing, and disbelieve it all.

Posted by: jbspry at July 27, 2020 03:22 PM (ATe9j)

406 There are so many studies and reports that now show HCQ worked, and worked just as it was reported in April, but there has been no talk of holding people accountable for purposely posing a lie in order to kill people so Trump looks bad. Barr needs to look into connections of Fauci and others to see if they'll profit off competing drugs, or if they helped networks and newspapers smear a drug that worked.

Likewise there needs to be a way to hold anchors, bloggers and "journalist" responsible if they knowingly lied about out, there shouldn't be first amendment protection for malice.
