Abusing the 911 system by calling over non-emergencies can get you arrested. It was a 1 speed and you controlled it by a lever type stick in which you directed the amount of force to be applied to the road, and in which direction.

I have 50 year old gasoline lawnmowers that still run fine. An electric would have been through ten sets of batteries over that time frame. If you could still get batteries. Cordless power tools are undergoing "voltage creep". Last year's model had 18 volts; this year's has 20 volts, next year's will be 24.

I had noticed that she and Dad had been wearing masks all through Church, posting pictures of them touring around the local area checking out whether various eateries were following her exacting standards for mask wearing and sanitation.
She said she has been "sick for a week" and got tested last Wednesday. Just got her results back a couple of hours ago. Meanwhile, she has been counting on the mask my sister made for her to keep everyone in a hundred mile radius safe when she was out and about while sure she had COVID-19.
I am beyond pissed.
I'm glad she doesn't have the Yellow Peril but OTOH she has been leaving bad reviews all over town for places that she feels are not up to snuff.
If she was the kind of person who didn't believe that masks were helpful and thought she wasn't endangering people, that would be one thing. But she is a Fauchi acolyte. She really feels that anyone who doesn't wear a mask deserves to die and that people who want kids to go back to school don't care if children die horrible deaths. She has said it many times on Farcebook.
Now I have to go to Confession and confess my anger.

We use an air fryer. Takes a bit longer than at a wing place, but they turn out nice and crispy. then we add the sauce, a stick of butter and and equal portion of Frank's Hot sauce. *chef fingertip kiss*

It was like a go cart for 1 passenger (driver). I think about 5 horsepower.
It was a 1 speed and you controlled it by a lever type stick in which you directed the amount of force to be applied to the road, and in which direction.

Second: Office Space. A lot of white collar types are learning they can work from home as easily as from the office, so why go back to the office when you can...work from your home Up North? Get this summer place turned into a year-round residence, get rid of the down-state dwelling, and just live up here. Think about it - middle aged, middle-married, the kids love it here anyway, and only one mortgage - please stop trying to sell me.
My opinion? Covid-19 is going to have a lasting effect as many companies realize that they can have a core headquarters in Major City with meeting rooms, but their staff can go and live anywhere, and so long as the work is done everything is peachy-cream and cherry pie. So small cities with rivers, lakes, mountains, forests, and so on nearby are going to benefit. Larger cities are going to need to recruit industries that require concentrating population. And, if the Time of The Golden Scalp Weasel wasn't without enough irony, industries that need lots of local population are manufacturing industries, which means Big Blue Cities may be competing to luring back from China the industries they shed so quickly a couple of decades ago.

Shootings and murders in Chicago aren't a serious issue unless they occur near the Miracle Mile and scare away the shoppers. Black lives taken away by gang members really don't matter. I've no doubt battery lawnmowers have come a long way. I have one, I used it once. Too heavy. I've a LawnBoy with magnesium deck, without all the crippling BS. Lawnmower manufacturers pretty much had to make them self-propelled simply because they defacto outlawed 2 stroke engines. 4 strokes are a fair bit more complex, and heavier.
The power question will be the key. Will the electrics plow through dense, wet turf that is "too long"? Everybody "knows" you don't cut the grass when it's wet, nor let it get too long, but ya gotta do what ya gotta do.

This is the sacrifice of Christ on the cross, He has essentially said "take me instead" for us in hopes that we will see that sacrifice and finally be brought to enlightenment and prosper.
The deadliest message that the devil has imposed upon society is that child-bearing and parenthood is an imposition, when in fact it is the true may blessing anyone may experience both in validation of their time on earth and in coming to a personal knowledge of the Father that resides above us in heaven.
Or something like that anyway.

Oh, very nice. Looks like they do have a semi-auto version - cosmetically the same anyway. The real thing is probably beyond expensive - getting the Class 3 license would be the easy part compared to finding a transferrable example. No idea how much it would cost. A lot.
Someone made MG34-lookalike upper receivers, I think the idea was that if you had a NFA lower, you could mate it to the upper and have a passable MG34-ish machine gun. Not as pretty, but easier to find (and find parts for).

Back in the days when astrology was first formulated, the sky was your calendar. You planted your crops by the stars, etc., etc. My theory is that in those early agrarian societies, the season of the year when a child was born had an affect upon its development. Was it warm or cold outside when the little blighter began walking? What foods were available when it was weaned? How much time did mama or papa have to devote to it as it went through the various stages of childhood development? End result? A winter baby might have different personality than a summer baby.
People noticed these things, and attributed them to the star signs of a child's birth. Not a big leap from the star signs being a temporal marker, to being given credit for causing the character traits.

I still have someone else do it. I didn't retire so that I could mow a damn lawn every week or so because some HOA says so.
I went for 50 years without mowing a lawn from the time I left home till I bought this place.
I was going to remove all the lawn and put in a rock garden but they said NO. I did kill the lawn in preparation for that and a side effect seems to be that most of the weeds and grass has died and only the clover lasted thru 3 years of killing off the lawn. It was great. Didn't have to mow once during the summer. Even when it rained it didn't look too bad.
I was tempted to get some of that green paint the highway folks use for the right of ways but it was too expensive and looked terrible. And mulch was way too expensive.

I think they've never done one on the efficacy of a mask for two way infection prevention.
They have done studies about the reduction in oxygen during long term mask use and we don't hear about that one do we?
I think it's transmissible by air and contact but only at a certain viral particle load. If you don't hit that loaded area AND you aren't very susceptible it goes by or you get a varying degree of infection depending on how much to get.
I think I had it for the last 6 weeks. Diarrhea for the last 3 weeks. Tired for the entire time. Just lately got over it but feel a possible remission coming on.
If this is like a cold virus then there will be NO vaccine (and I never believed that the flu vaccines they touted were all that useful for the majority of people)
This MAY not have been orchestrated but it has definitely been taken advantage of.
We would've been better off to just go about our daily business with advice to keep clean after being among people and maybe wearing a mask if of a certain age or immune deficiency.
I think we'd be over this by now and wouldn't have trashed our economy the way we have.
What use to survive this virus but wind up with a steam age economy.

I'm not thrilled about some of the Trump stuff during COVID - there's been some missteps. That said, EVERYTHING is about the election because without it the country is clearly finished. We are finished. And on top of all of the bullshit they have in store for us, the commies have found a way to legally imprison everyone. It's insane.
Trump doesn't "flip flop" often but he is never afraid to change course when needed. If he senses he's losing somewhere and wants something off the table, he is never afraid to sacrifice a piece for the bigger picture. Yes it sucks that that piece is our freedom right now, but honestly in four months it all vanishes if he doesn't step right.
And he doesn't have a lot of help. I know he signed up for it, but I can't imagine having the weight of human civilization on my shoulders with every breath I take and every move I make. At least in the past, presidents had a country full of people from the bottom to the top that were basically on the same page with regards to America's fitness and survival. In this case, if he makes one misstep, the parasitic classes above and below both move in for the coup de gras on the Western World.
So for those who are fed up, take heart that the guy is at least playing to *win*, and after that we can hopefully settle all family business.

I knew this year was going to be an adventure - especially when it looked like Trump was just sailing along to reelection. I just didn't know it was gonna be like this.
What Trump did in 2016 was amazing, this is the sequel and somehow it's going to play out just like one. Everything bigger, more exaggerated, with seemingly much higher stakes and an even more miraculous escape with the same ending. I don't know *why* it's like this, it just is.
I don't mind sounding crazy. I pointed out multiple times in 2016 that it was playing out just like a movie and Trump was basically on the hero's journey. The third act, which started around the conventions, where Trump seemed to be in absolutely terrible shape, even included one last impossible obstacle (the "tapes"). Just like a movie plot.
No one in their right mind thought Trump was going to be the underdog in the 2020 fight and that the villains would once again look like victors right to the end. But here we are.

All network ports on the computers were fine, as well as the other stuff including the routers.

And beyond that, it is not established, even close, that "spikes" follow any timeline other than the one the virus will be following. Any virus, not just this one.
If epidemiology retains any legit scientific approach in a few institutions, we will be seeing lots of interesting research the next year or so. So far, there is no evidence I have seen that lockdowns or school closings or anything (in large, dynamic modern societies, not small islands) have had any impact.
Quite the contrary. "Social mobility" scores, derived from smartphone snoopery I guess, show no correlation at all between "policies" and epidemic path. Most "lockdowns" documented so far occurred well into spread and had no apparent effect - that is, decay started and proceeded "normally".
So viewed from enough distance or altitude, total picture, "spikes" don't change the overall situation, and are simply what the virus was going to do anyway. Timing of intense spread varies by location, not by "policy".

I think much of the so-called "spikes" we are seeing are simply artifacts of massively-increased testing, turning up both false positives, and true positives in well people with no symptoms.
The only metrics we should be using as "cases" should be people sick enough with the WuFlu to need to be admitted to hospital, and the fraction of those who die of it.

Lightning can do crazy stuff, and there's not much making sense of it. Chaotic, it can be. But it blows my mind what happened.
I was sitting at the computer in the office and big blue flash and a simultaneous pop. Thunder crack came about a second later. I've heard that pop around metal (siding, tin roofs, etc) many times before. It's induced shit from the field of the massive current pulse.
So something was induced big time inside the house. The power supply wall wart for the switch is fine as well. It's all plugged into surge protectors, and I don't think anything came in on the power supply side.
I think something got on the ethernet cabling. There was no power blink at all during that event. Just that pop simultaneous with the flash.

Yes. Body dents, smashed side mirrors, including the plastic housing on the left side. Smashed plastic vent shades on the doors, smashed plastic bug deflector on the hood.
'96 Suburban: same deal, no offer from insurance company on it yet.
Other non-licensed vehicles sustained similar damage. Had several windshields destroyed. Some had prior cracks, some didn't, but they are fooked now. Currently unlicensed/uninsured '97 Suburban had both tail lights holed, and mirrors smashed. Glass OK.
My dead '96 Diesel Suburban had its windshield hammered so bad you cannot see through it. But mirrors and tail lights are OK, because it faced into the storm. It will give up its good parts to the '97; both are the same shade of red paint, too.

I am blessed with a lot of volunteer wildflowers, and a property bordering nice woods. Mountain Laurel in the spring and early summer, then big orange tigerlilies everywhere through July and into August. I also have a Rose of Sharon bush that produced beautiful blooms, then died. I never got around to removing it, and after a couple years it snapped back to life and started blooming again. I think that makes it a zombie, so I always refer to it as Rose of Sharon Tate.

And mass testing. Last weekend the US tested more people than were tested the entire previous influenza season (6 months). !!!! Because .... pretty much only symptomatic, and severe, flu cases get tested.
Note that higher #s in FL TX AZ CA have been confirmed by rise in hospitalizations - but at a much lower rate than seen in NYC in April. And, happily, a much lower fatality rate.
But the "reporting" (it really is no exaggeration to term it panic propaganda) in all these places has been hysteric and outrageous, there's been no medical capacity problem. TX border counties have been overwhelmed by imported cases, but they've been easily handled/moved elsewhere.
Oh - and it's a decent bet these border counties will have a higher fatality rate, probably between NYC/April (baaaad), and current-day FL or CA (not bad), because 1) poor initial health condition of patients 2) "lockdown" (!!!) instituted in these areas, which many expect to exacerbate things, as it has appeared to elsewhere.

I ran a speed test on my internet today. At the modem I'm getting an 80Mbps download speed and a 20Mbps upload. My internet provider says I'm supposed to have 200Mbps service.
I'm supposed to have someone out to look at the cable anyway, is it possible for them to run a speed check at the cable and eliminate the service coming in? I'm wondering if I shouldn't get a new modem, it's been a while since I replaced it.

Infection fatality rate (IFR) is always an estimate, as the denominator (total infected) can never be laboratory-confirmed. But the estimates can be decent (and will have more robustness for this, because of the much larger diagnostic and serological testing #s), so we'll get a number. Which I think will be lower than 0.1%, which is the "average" flu number for a while now.

Actually, hospital "census" is something reported (like so many of these metrics, there are big variations in quality, timeliness, etc. between states and hospital systems, just a legacy of it not really being important until now), and collected.
I think this is one of the things just switched to HHS from CDC last week.
Anyway, the only real reporters/analysts/communicators in this whole episode - the nobodies, amateurs, professionals doing it on the side - have long been tracking hospital census, and ICU capacity, and talking about it. Usually to debunk, again, the hysteria.
I fear your friend is far too typical, though. No background, massively misinformed by the media - AND state and local govt., in some cases - and not helped or educated by any public institution (including the WH).

I have a pair of very stout steel ramps made for loading a vehicle onto a trailer. I plan to weld them to some heavy 4" by 6" steel angle, to hang the top ends on the shop floor. Then will plank over them with pressure-treated 2X8's laid transversely and bolted down. I will space the steel ramps so they are centered on the track width of my Suburbans, which are the heaviest vehicles likely to use this ramp. Should work out fine, and the wood will not be in direct contact with the ground in any case.

Yeah, Adiane, I noticed a few years ago that the astronomy profession had re-carved the entire sky up into constellations, not just the ecliptic. Some number of them bore little relation to the configurations of stars I'd learned coming up as a yute.
No particular problem with that, here. Whatever works for them!
Then again, there are probably a boatload of people here that are much more knowledgeable than I about astronomical nomenclature. For all I know, that's the way modern astronomy has always been.

Have to decide whether or not to travel to NY in September for my mom's birthday. This is one tough decision. The issues related to travel during the scamdemic, and especially to Cuomo's fiefdom are daunting enough, but on top of all that, most (almost all) of my family back there have become stark raving Karens who I can't even talk to anymore.
My sister, who I might as well just call Karen, insists the party has to be outdoors, no one but immediate family, all wearing face burkhas and sitting 6 feet apart. Pretty sure I won't even be "allowed" to even hug my mom after travelling clear across the country to see her.
That's the kind of "party" it's going to be, I'm afraid. And on top of that I'll be subjected to endless OrangeManBad rants.
But aside from Wyoming, which hardly counts as travelling since it's a short drive from me, I haven't been out of Colorado since last December. I'm big on travel. Always hopping a plane somewhere, and I'm feeling the jones badly. And one of my brothers, who will be there, is a secret Trumper, as is at least one of his children.
I'm torn. It's going to be a big expensive hassle to travel to a no-fun "party" in a commie state, but I'm still thinking of going. Hope CO isn't on Cuomo's naughty list and I don't get thrown in quarantine jail.

Points and condensors. We had a Jacobsen with a K582 on it that was The Beast. Could cut small trees down with that sunnuva. And a Gravely front mount mower that had a Magnum 20 on it that was good too. My only problem with that one was the rear wheel could jar the teeth out of your head if you hit a hole at speed. But damn did that one cut too.

So the gun was incapable of being fired as Mrs. McCloskey held it pointed at the mob. "Readily capable of lethal use" does not mean "the gun will work if I disassemble it and then put it back together properly." Readily capable means if I pull the trigger, the gun will fire a bullet.
And being "readily capable" was one of the elements of the crime charged, which is why the lying prosecutor falsely stated that in the charging documents. But now there is apparently a paper trail back at the crime lab, showing that the gun was not "readily capable" until the crime lab took it apart and put it back together properly. So the prosecutor committed a fraud upon the court by perjuriously claiming that the gun was readily capable of lethal use when Mrs. McCloskey held it.
I hope St. Louis has insurance coverage for the malfeasance of its elected officials, because by the time the McCloskeys finish suing the city for this blatantly malicious prosecution and deprivation of civil rights under color of law, there is going to be a large multi-million-dollar judgment and/or settlement, and it would be a real shame if the crooked lefty voters there ended up having to pay that bill.

Having said that, the fact that the weapon was inoperable doesn't excuse peeps, does it? Using a "fake" weapon, or an unloaded weapon, still carries penalties robbing a liquor store, right? I also heard Mr. McCloskey's weapon was unloaded. That isn't a very good place to be.
I was at a drive up ATM oncet, and an "immigrant" OTM was beelining up to my truck. Up to no good. I made motions acting like I was grabbing a firearm from the console. I'm not sure how ya do that, because I was unarmed. But he unassed the area right quick.

In my early 20s I was taking a shortcut that involved a b ottleneck through a narrow gap in a chain-link fance, when two fine young aspiring rappers decided to mug me for my expensive sneakers (dumb mistake in the city 'hood I then lived in, but I was young.)
I remembered seeing or reading somewhere about the "key thing", so I put my hand in my pocket and slowly brought it out in a fist with 3 or 4 keys protruding out between my fingers. I did it slowly and calmly, didn't say a word, didn't look at my hand (but they sure did) and they both backed off. I walked on through and kept walking, telling myself, don't look back, don't run.
It worked.

The entire case is bullshit, as the Missouri AG's brief points out. Under Missouri law, it is not a crime to brandish a gun at people who are threatening your life or your property. The MO statutes carve out a very clear and specific exception for that. And there is no question that the McCloskeys were being threatened. The common property (the gate to their private subdivision) had been torn down by the mob (and that is property in which the McCloskeys, as homeowners in that subdivision, have an ownership interest in), the mob was standing on the private street (another common property in which the McCloskeys have an ownership interest) abutting the McCloskeys home and threatening to kill the McCloskeys, kill their dog, and burn down their house. The McCloskeys had every legal right under Missouri law to point guns at those criminal trespassers.
And the fact that the prosecutor had to lie about the gun being operable in the charging documents is just more icing on the cake for the McCloskeys. There has probably never been a more clear-cut case of malicious prosecution. This is going to cost the taxpayers of St. Louis many millions of dollars before it is over, and the rich McCloskeys are going to get a whole lot richer.

They had previously used it as a prop in a trial. They couldn't take an operable gun into the courthouse, so that is why they made it inoperable. Mrs. McCloskey was well aware that the gun did not work.

It was pointed out in that lawsuit that is currently going on against Harvard that that is the same tactic the school is using now to keep out qualified Asian applicants.
But instead of "manliness" they use bullshit factors like "friendliness" and "openness" (since Asians tend to be more reserved than white and black Americans). Then they grade the Asian applicants down after the interview, and use that to justify rejecting them in favor of blacks with much lower grades and SAT scores.
Just like Harvard once didn't want "too many" Jews on campus, it now doesn't want "too many" Asians.

Talked to my brother last night. He said it was a gang funeral and shootings like this happen all the time at gang funerals. Just usually not this high a number of people shot.
Thankfully, he has a respite from his 2nd watch duty and has been on national guard duty the last few weeks. And will be there until August.
As he said, hopefully by then people will have their heads out of their asses.
