The Morning Rant: Minimalist Edition

punk-monkey.jpg

Do you want to read what's coming if Gropin' Joe Biden manages to totter into the Oval Office, drool cup in the hand of his wife and extra Depends ready in the bathroom? Because Victor Davis Hanson wrote a terrifying description of what we can expect, and it isn't some fantasy plucked from the fervid imagination of a right-wing conspiracy theorist; it is based on some concrete examples like Cuba and Venezuela, and before those Maoist China and Stalinist Russia.

Will 2021 Be 1984?[link from Sefton's Morning Report]

If Joe Biden is elected, the effort to remove him by those now supporting him will begin the day after the election and it will not be as crude as rounding up a Yale psychiatrist to testify to his dementia in Congress or shaming the White House physician to give him the Montreal Cognitive Assessment Test in the manner that the Left went after Donald Trump.

It will be far more insidious and successful: leaked stories to the New York Times and Washington Post from empathetic White House insiders will speak of how “heroically” Biden is fighting his inevitable decline—and how gamely he tries to marshal his progressive forces even as his faculties desert him. We would read about why Biden is a national treasure by sacrificing his health to get elected and then nobly bowing out as he realized the cost of his sacrifice on his person and family.

But that will just set the stage, as previously unimagined lunacy will become normalized. Good old Jew-Hate will be front-and-center. "Wealth taxes" in all of their glory will be trotted out to destroy the modern-day Kulaks, while the connected rich will protect themselves with official and unofficial contacts within government.

Apartheid and segregation will arrive as law, and success will be measured by radically different metrics; wokeness and connections to NGOs will dwarf actual skills.

Kiss the wall goodby. And with it American culture, as armies of the unwashed and uneducated pour over our borders and are favored, along with the ones already here, by law.

And that's just a taste (read the article; it's great)! Imagine what will happen to the military and our infrastructure and technological innovation and the simple freedom to jump into your car (begone! The Green Revolution is upon us!) and drive. Or go to the store and buy beef.

I and many others used to think that American Exceptionalism, coupled with the amazing drive and individualism of most of us, along with a pretty reasonable take on government power, would protect us from the occasional bad apple. Reagan followed Carter, and that was just grand! But Bush followed Clinton, and that didn't work so well because the genesis of our current demise waited in the wings: Obama the figurehead...the puppet for those who would ruthlessly use class and race and success against us.

You know that road strewn with broken glass? Crawling over it to vote for President Trump is looking more and more attractive.

If the mail-in voting gets a hold, it won't. But, I'm hoping it's only going to happen in blue states that are already long-gone. There's plenty of anecdotal evidence of still-sane liberals saying they'll vote for Trump, but can any of it be enough? They'll keep counting until it goes their way. All the while screaming Trump won't accept the results when they finally get them.

I have been watching rasmussen daily since this $hit started. Trump has been between 45-48% approval for the vast majority of the time the media has literally been attacking him.

He did dip to 43% once or twice but not for long and not very often.

Nothing the media is doing or will do will shake that 45% from voting for biden. Add in the sleeper Trump voters and I have a good feeling about November.

I will have even a better feeling if biden actually does debate Trump but the odds of that happening are extremely low.

Yes, but the default setup for iOS is Safari, which has google default. I'm not sure you can entirely remove it other than specifying a search page. But, if you use your address bar to search it's still google, unless somebody knows a workaround.

I almost never use a device for the HQ or other "political" based sites, I'm on a PC that's in stealth mode. I don't use my VPN here, but do elsewhere. I want Ace to get some ad revenue.

I don't think either strategy works all the well for Biden. Sure, leftists will celebrate if Slow Joe refuses to debate but they are beyond reach anyway.

But a whole lot of persuadable voters are probably starting to question Biden's mental decline and won't be comforted by his lack of engagement. If he can't even stand up to Trump in a debate how is he going to stand up to our enemies around the world?

Hillary was hammered in 2016 for not going to the midwest and asking for their votes. Joe isn't going anywhere and taking tough questions from anyone somehow that has now become a winning strategy?

I thought it was a good depiction of the book although I think people who never read it or who aren't familiar with Orwell would be lost in some spots. I think they did a really good job with capturing the atmosphere and the general feeling of the society in the book and the casting was good. This is the thing I've come to hate about Google and Bing is no alternative. Bing doesn't even try to give you a specific geography.

It used to be that if you used google.de you'd get German results, google.it yielded Italian. Now google just reads you IP and gives you local results.

I tried google.de in Italy and got all Roman results, I use it here and everything is in New Jersey. Informatik is supposed to get continually better, not worse.

RSS is not just my preferred way of reading important web content, it is the system I rely on. I'm stilling seeing a post or two a day from AOSHQ but most of them, including the Morning Report and Overnight Thread are a miss for me.

The outbound RSS seems to be working fine. I'm notified of new AOSHQ stories and they appear in my Feedly stream. But when I click on the links in those RSS items in Feedly, the item never appears, with a server timeout.

Now, I could keep bitching and moaning about this and maybe even post another rant in 6 weeks...but wouldn't it be better all around if someone actually fixed whatever piece of gear or code has fallen over?

I guess you could say I'm asking for a former reader...

230 While all those things are likely true about a hypothetical Biden administration, the real horrors would be less about policy and reversing Trump gains, and more about controlling the American people and punishing dissent or disagreement.

Social Credit systems, whether official or de facto through corporate and banking pressure would be installed.

Arrests of prominent pro-Trump and anti-Biden figures would be regular, after all you can't go through a day without breaking some minor law, and if the FBI has proved anything, its that they can get you no matter what you've done.

Complete lockdown of all conservative voices and outlets, with social media utterly silencing dissent

Total destruction of the Trump family and any major donors or supporters who dared be public about it.

Shaming, canceling, and financial ruin of Trump supporters of any significance or fame.

Laws eliminating the ability to buy weapons and ammunition, payments for destruction of weapons.

Open hostility toward American pride and patriotism as "nationalism" pushing a one-world ideology

Implementation of UN policies and codes

276 I believe that would require and Ammendment to the Constitution

We are living in a Post-Constitutional America.

Just pause and reflect...

It took the 16th Amendment for the government to tax income. Now they are planning to enact, without amendments, a wealth tax (not including the ancient wealth tax called 'inflation').

Then look at voting. The Federal Elections were so sacred that any change to them required a Constitutional Amendment:

12) Pres and VP voted together, not as first and second place.

15) Grants voting privileges to former slaves; removes prohibitions of voting because of ethnic and tribal characteristics.

19) Women can vote - even against their spouses.

22) Term limits on POTUS

23 ) Added electors for DC

24) Removed Poll taxes as a way to restrict voting.

26) Lets teenagers vote.

These are relatively trivial changes to voting for the President compared to efforts by the States to select State electors by results of a national popular vote, or letting the dead, illegal aliens, children, pets, cartoon characters vote multiple times.

Of course the mother of violations is using the utterly corrupt USPS as the mechanism for determining the vote.

And don't forget that you lost all of your remaining Rights when government forces, with the power of the police state force you to wear The Veil.

Did you know the CIA has their own VC investment company? They do. It's called In-Q-Tel and it's based in Arlington, VA. They invest in all sorts of technology used for surveillance. I think the Republican Party could secure a substantial and possibly permanent shift, if they made as part of their platform, the protection of union pensions.

Just say it: "We, the Republican Party, believe you worked hard for your retirement, and we will see to it that no one will ever take that away from you."

Virtually every working American in this country will drop the Democrat Party in a fraction of a second. If they believe you, I suppose.

IIRC, Obama's angle was to say that it wasn't "fair" that some people get better retirement advice than others, and that it wasn't "fair" that some people's employers offered 401ks and others didn't, and so to make it "fair" all retirement funds should be managed by the US government, thus making 401ks available to al and free from investment people who only have their self-interest at heart (commissions/payments for services).

Then, the US government would decide when and how much money you could access from your retirement account -- for your own protection, of coure.
Think he called this 'universal retirement accounts' and started it with his MyIRA program (the camel's nose under the tent).

What's sad? People think 80,000 dead from the annual flu, WITH A VACCINE, is just hunky dory.

Folks, that's piss poor. That's not something you brag about. That's embarrassing.

Posted by: rickb223 at July 21, 2020 11:40 AM

Is it, though? Serious question.

Considering the population of 330 million Americans, 80,000 is 0.024% of the population.

Highest deaths estimate of last 10 years is 61,000 in '17-'18 season. Illness estimate that season is 45 million.

61,000 out of 45 million is 0.136% ifr.

And the influenza virus is always mutating. So the vaccine may or may not prevent all influenza viruses each season.

I watched The Search for the Polio Vaccine from Modern Marvels yesterday. In 1952 (2 years before polio vaccine), population was 160.2 million. Polio infections that year were 60,000 children, 3,000 died.

3,000 of 160 million is 0.002%.
3,000 of 60,000 is IFR of 5%.

The interesting fact is that the large NYC outbreak of polio was in 1916. The vaccine was not developed until 1954-1955 (Salk).

40 years to develop the polio vaccine.

And now they're developing influenza vaccines I think every year?

That's simply amazing progress.

It has something to do with how language is processed though. It's not always automatic, and the average listener has to go through extra steps before it gets relatively easy.

As with everything though, practice improves the ability.

It's like being bilingual. I don't speak or read anything other than English, so when my brain hears and sees foreign jibberish, it's all jibberish. But for that person who IS bilingual, the switch goes on at some point, and their brain processes the second language as if it's natural.

The GOP is pretty meticulous when it comes to the candidates they present the public. They always make sure to have enough reliable establishment types so that the crazy whacko birds never form a majority on their own.

Put 70 Republicans in the Senate - and there will be at least 21 establishment shills in the bunch. Thats how the game works.

Then, Trump came along and gave it a knife to the heart. It continues on because institutions are institutional, but make no mistake... The GOP of old is dead. Whether those of us younger than Queen Elizabeth continue under that name doesn't much matter. Those decrepit Renfields have to die sometime soon.

My sincere hope is that another Trump victory will be a dagger in the breast of the Dems next. It could easily happen to them too. They're even older, and far more corrupt.

367 Want to tell me where the votes were coming from when they couldn't even get the votes for the watered down bill?

Easy - The reps and senators that were sitting in Congress the day Trump was sworn in, that had voted for the eight page bill previously vetoed by Obama. Enough were there to pass it again.

That bill was never again brought to the floor of the House.

368 One of the strangest wuflu thought processes I hear from people is that it's an historic 100 year cycle. Spanish flu, now this.

Its to deflect from the fact that this Flu is an engineered Crisis originating in China and masterminded in Davos.

Except the wuflu hasn't historically killed 50,000,000 people.
If they weren't inflating the numbers and counting motorcycle deaths as Covid, it would be less than the annual flu.

In a real pandemic, you wouldn't have to fudge numbers and play games.

369 The other thing fueling Dem interest in 401ks is public section pension funds failing, and unions eyeing all that private 401k money with envy. They want a piece of that and they have been pressuring Democrats to get it for them.

Things will get interesting when public pension collapse. I am not a financial person, but I would think with the drop in tax revenue thanks to the Wuflu destroying businesses and tax revenue, that could come sooner? Probably doesn't help that the country's largest pension fund, CALPERS, is managed by a freakin' China nationalist whose been heavily investing it in Chinese firms.

PJ O'Rourke responded to his daughter with something like "It's not fair that you are more attractive, intelligent than so many others; that you live in a nice home in a relatively tranquil country; that you have so many freedoms and opportunities while so many do not..."

377 I think it's safe to assume that even if that drooling imbecile Biden isn't elected in 4 months and installed in 6, that the transformation is irrefutable in the Democrat Party and that if not '21, then any presidential election year that comes after. We're going to get all the horror CBD describes, and much more. It's a matter of when, not if. The next D president will allow and encourage the flooding of illegals, along with the importation of millions of muslims. It will happen. And we'll never recover electorally or culturally. I suppose there's a sliver of a chance that our education system and our "media" will burn to the ground and come back to life realizing their true purpose. Then we can begin to heal and reclaim our individuality, liberties and freedoms.

There is a theory out there, that a Biden Presidency is preferable to a second Trump term... if one assumes the Dems taking control will flame themselves out as a result.

The thinking goes, if Trump wins, but it doesn't substantially overturn the standard issue Washington cesspit of vipers, and the Democrats still control major institutions and enough state houses and city halls, the left will be even more disruptive to the state moving forward.

So... if Biden gets in, sure, let's see you run this thing, you simple minded fool. You and your puppet masters. Let a new opposition coalition form, one that can gather strength while these idiot fiddle around.

Would it work?

I have no clue.

379 Shit. The county where I live and work just issues mandatory mask order, despite our governor fight with Dem mayors across the state. After first warning there is a $250 fine and mandatory watching of some training video. Will ops actually try to enforce this? If so, screw them they can battle it out with BLM without my support.

Most places I go there was already 90% panic masks but now it is official and looks like it will apply to even going for a walk. . They might as well go back to full lock-down becasue I'm not going anywhere I have to wear a mask except buy food.

This just suck worse every day. Masks, schools closed, no activities, people jumping back when you stretch out your hand to shake, .... We are being slowly strangled. How did the country ever become this stupid ?

I agree - this country can't go on, it needs to break up. I don't want to be a part of the same country as a place like Portland, where the moms come out and demonstrate in favor of Antifa. But I would hope we could control the terms of the breakup.

For those who say we should never surrender anything, I'm in favor of nuking all of the West Coast cities and a few East Coast ones. But I don't think you'll ever get a consensus of people to agree on that, and that's what it'll take.

384 I wanted to share a bit of good news on the political front.
I unofficially belong to a group of conservatives in my area. They've been around since Obama was in office. Every year they have a summer picnic at the park. The attendance is usually about 35. Well, they had one on Sunday and I only attended part of it because I am usually tired after church. However, there were very few spaces to park. There must have been about 150 or more people here. There were so many people there they had two cop cars at the entrance of the park-I guess in case there was trouble. I think there were probably some leftist interlopers too but they didn't cause any trouble, except that I can't say I was too thrilled with what I assume was mommies getting there kids to write in Chalk "God is love and not hate" all over the blacktop before the tents. If it was teens I don't mind so much, but thinking that it's a bad idea that your underage kid can go to school-change from boys clothes to girls clothes and then shower with the girls but you don't get told about it (Which is a law in N,J) is not hate. Supporting traditional marriage in churches is not hate. I That was the only part of the various political talk which I heard. They also had Trump stuff and talks on gun owners rights and the other issues in this election.

Anyway, the fact that so many people were showed me there is a big change after all this Covid and BLM /Antifa stuff. N.J. won't go blue but I felt better in knowing I'm not alone in this part of N.J.

No arguments here. I was yelling at the top of my lungs on Day One of the lockdown in March that the Wuhan Death Miasma was a McGuffin.

Though it is fair to note that our ability to deal with disease is greatly improved in the last century. Sort of like when people comment on the number of shootings in urban areas yet the death count is historically low when compared to the 60s and 70s.

It isn't because the gang bangers became worse shooters, but that our emergency services and medical system is so much better.

Dittos for dying from disease. There are so many more medical options that preserve and extend lives.

Yet it was called such by none other than Paul Ryan. And it was a very easy to follow eight pages of "defund this" and "that is no longer in effect".

Enough Republicans that voted for it in 2015 were still there after Trump took office to pass it again. Pure and simple.

393 387 For those who hate poetry-most men-I would suggest reading manly poems. Robert W. Service had wide experience-Yukon Gold Rush, First World War, especially.

My favorite Robert Service poem is The Cremation of Sam McGee - my wife hates the cold, and I read it for her in the winter.

setup - his friend has come to Alaska from the South, and froze to death, and his dying wish was to be cremated.

I do not know how long in the snow I wrestled with grisly fear;
But the stars came out and they danced about ere again I ventured near;
I was sick with dread, but I bravely said: "I'll just take a peep inside.
I guess he's cooked, and it's time I looked"; ... then the door I opened wide.

And there sat Sam, looking cool and calm, in the heart of the furnace roar;
And he wore a smile you could see a mile, and he said: "Please close that door.
It's fine in here, but I greatly fear you'll let in the cold and storm -
Since I left Plumtree, down in Tennessee, it's the first time I've been warm."

There are strange things done in the midnight sun
By the men who moil for gold;
The Arctic trails have their secret tales
That would make your blood run cold;
The Northern Lights have seen queer sights,
But the queerest they ever did see
Was that night on the marge of Lake Lebarge
I cremated Sam McGee.
