9 Good Morning Morons today is Sunday, July 19, 2020. On this day in 1845 the Great New York City Fire occurred. This was the the last great fire to affect Manhattan. It began early in the morning and was subdued by that afternoon. The fire killed four firefighters, 26 civilians, and destroyed 345 buildings.

I can't figure out what the hell is going on anymore where i live. Go to Wal-Mart and maybe half are wearing face burkhas. Stop at 7-11, nobody wearing them, not even employees. Try to walk in Krogers or Trader Joe's without one and the now ubiquitous sidewalk rent-a-cops won't let you in.

I'm buying one of those masks mentioned here which reads, "This Mask Is As Useless As Our Governor" (with an alternate, "Our Mayor"). I want to use some white ink to insert a "Y" in front of the "Our"; I've never belonged in this pesthole of a state and city, and have known it since I was a kid.

I may also pick up one of the mirrored full-face masks and make a point of using their self-checkout with the creepy cameras displaying your image right in your face.

47 Maryland is in a tough spot.

Hogan is planning to run for President in '24.

And the only real thing he might be able to run on besides OrangeManBad is a successful State battle against the Wu-Flu.

And now Maryland's numbers are beginning to spike.

So do they jiggle them upwards to make Trump look bad, which weakens Hogan's argument that he was a crisis manager per excellent, or juggle them downward to protect Hogan's legacy?

Latetss example is STEM and using it as a verb . I've been seeing "Do you STEM?" and "We STEM at this school!"

So now instead of referring to professions where rigorous study and use of math and science is required, it now means individuals of certain groups would be pushed into careers they may not be suited for.

Most likely this will mean lots more aviation disasters and bridges falling. But all groups are represented in STEM professions so it will be OK.

There once was a studio, Relativity Media, that survived from 2005 to 2015 before declaring bankruptcy. It produced movies like Act Of Valor -- movies of a conservative/pro American bent.

I bought a couple of tics from their showings just to try and support their viewpoint. And I almost NEVER go to the movies.

But it wasn't enough. And so it goes. Slightly modified, there is the movie Support Your Local Conservative; if you want more of something, subsidize it. ie, buycott it.

I've tried the medical exemption route. Even though the Jeff Parish and state mandates have that language in there, all the gatekeepers know is what they've been told. "Sir, you gots ta wear a mask."

The parish cop at the Boutte Walmart was the same. He admitted as I left that he'd read the order and saw the language. But nobody is honoring it.

Then....nothing. Because there was nothing to find. No one was prevented from voting, and Bush had won the election in that state, period, end of story.

Yes, I think this is another win for the liberal lawyers:
1. They put HIPAA compliant language in the official state executive order, i.e., here's what we officially said!
b. They then strongly told businesses run by mere citizens, that "You do understand that a "process" crime can tie your ass up in court for decades, right?"
III. The lawyers and the state win, end of discussion.
D. Citizens submit, because they need to feed their families, all the while the Establishment quietly plots their next abuse of power in the background!

Then later we found out that it would be a one day session because of beer flu. Quick calls to the camp and we worked out at week long camp from Friday to Saturday. The catch was we had to cook everything ourselves in our camp. We had two exceptions Wed night and Thursday night. But other than that we had run of the camp. Had a great week and all 22 boys were glad to get out of the house. The staff was super helpful and ran 22 rifle and black powder shooting and axe throwing one night. Had a great time and I am sure the scout office took note about it and I will not be surprised if we have follow up from them about health checks.

The question is whether you need to work or not. I would love to move to Sturgeon Bay in Door County, but I need a job and there aren't many there. So I'm looking at Green Bay, even though it's bigger than I like. I have a cottage to stay at on the Bay and could commute to either Sturgeon Bay or Green Bay but there's the little matter of snow and having to get our of my driveway and country lane in the winter. My sister's neighbor very kindly snowplows her driveway, but he's retired and does it when he does it. I can't expect him to do it at 5 am so I can go to work.

249 "In the store" is the only time I put on a mask. And I have a rationalization for it, weak though it may be.

I'm in Greenwich Village. The GF and I both had Covid in March (it was no big deal), and now we both have tested and confirmed antibodies. I never wear a mask outside. Most of the time I don't even have one in my pocket.

My office is in mid-town, and I ride the subway there and back every single day, maskless. Occasionally there are a few cops at 57th street which is my office stop. I always smile and wave, or say good morning if they're close enough. They smile and wave back. NYC police have bigger things to worry about right now than making sure all the middle aged white guys are Karen-compliant, and if you're obviously just going about your business, they have never been much inclined to enforce the stupider local regs. In NYC all things are mandatory or forbidden, but individually, the cops just want the day to go by without incident. They don't go looking for trouble. I'd say 4 of 5 are usually maskless themselves.

Since I'm immune (for now at least) I live my life maskless all the time without any real feelings at all about it. I have nothing to prove, and I don't look down on anyone who for their own reasons feels compelled to wear the mask. That's their business. I don't know their circumstance any better than they know mine so I don't judge. In other words I don't see it as a political statement, as much as an expression of my unwillingness to participate in a lie. I don't need it for my sake or anyone else's, so I'm not wearing it. That's that.

People do get upset on the street now and again but I'm tall, fit, and have the bearing of someone accustomed to giving orders rather than taking them. Apart from the occasional finger wag from the elderly during a dog walk, it's very rare for me to get any comment at all. I think I've had only three of four since the end of the riots.

I view "the store" as a slightly different matter. It's a private institution, and while the local and state governments lack the resources to push their vision on the general public, they very much do have the resources to punish businesses that defy them, and are doing so with totalitarian glee. I have no desire to put their licenses, permits, and inevitably businesses at risk by accommodating my special circumstance so I'll wear one for a few minutes for their sake.

I suppose this means that at some level I'm a hypocrite. Even though I can neither catch Covid, nor transmit Covid, I'm participating in the healthcare theater that is being pushed down on us from above. But in my mind 'good manners' should come into play somewhere. And though all the businesses here try to enforce the rule (what choice do they have really) I don't really know if they do so out of fear of the illness, fear of the government, or fear of the Karens. Two of three of those fears seem perfectly rational to me, so I don't want to add to their troubles.

Funny that no one bothered to follow-up asking her by how much does sending COVID-19 patients to nursing homes decrease transmission of the virus. And what study did she use to make that decision.

Before the aggressive language and action from federal officials, the unrest had frustrated
Mayor Ted Wheeler and other local authorities, who had said a small
cadre of violent activists were drowning out the message of peaceful
protesters in the city.
But Wheeler said the federal presence in the
city is now exacerbating a tense situation and he has told them to
depart.

"Keep your troops in your own buildings, or have them leave our city," Wheeler said Friday.

Oh it's just small cadres. Funny how it's all we seem to see.

Attorney General Ellen Rosenblum late Friday sued Homeland Security and

322 @298 ... I make it a point to speak with the workers in the deli, bakery, meat dept., and with the cashier (I refuse to use the 'self check-out' [consider the implicit double meaning of that term]). I ask all of them what they think of the mask. Every reply I've gotten is uniformly negative.

I also point out that (a) the mask makes them re-breathe their own CO2, (b) the mask concentrates any bacteria they exhale, [c] the mask causes their blood's oxygen saturation level to decrease (saw that happen to me when I had to mask to see my PCP), and (d) the concentrated moisture exhaled and captured by the mask will cause something called 'mask face.' One lady in the meat dept said she was already dealing with two of those problems.

By asking questions and (can I deny it?) planting seeds of doubt and irritation, I'm hoping that some of the employees will bring these matters up during their 'training sessions' they have no choice but to attend. You could speculate that I'm attempting to cause a revolt in-house against the corporate policy of masking.

I know, I know . . . love me for what I am.

CVS, Staples.

Both are getting this stuff in.

~~~~~
Usually he's on Fox5 (NY station) at 9am, then on Fox News cable at 2pm. Can't figure out what's up.
If I'm back in time, I'll try the 2pm slot, otherwise I'm sure it will be on YouTube.
Any highlights?
Not really. Wallace is being his usual self and using Democrat talking points and Trump is bunching back.
Wallace would be much more at home on CNN.
They have been doctoring the numbers since day one.
Ugh, Maryland. They have these walk-in/drive-up testing centers in so many places, I wouldn't be surprised to see them at the 7-11 soon. They keep saying they want to add more testing centers, but, honestly, I don't know why. At this point, contact tracing is pretty useless, so what's the purpose? I know a handful of people who have gotten COVID and all said they had no symptoms or mild symptoms that went away in about three days. Had an elderly uncle in a nursing home who had it a few months ago. We all thought he wasn't going to make it but he recovered.
330 I'm participating in the healthcare theater that is being pushed down on us from above. But in my mind 'good manners' should come into play somewhere. And though all the businesses here try to enforce the rule (what choice do they have really) I don't really know if they do so out of fear of the illness, fear of the government, or fear of the Karens. Two of three of those fears seem perfectly rational to me, so I don't want to add to their troubles.
Pre-existing conditions plus genetics? I saw one small sample study that showed correlation between blood type and severity of illness. It wouldn't be the first disease that strikes certain geno-types more than others. Malaria (seemingly like Chinese lung aids) does not strike people with type O blood as hard, for instance.
