The Dali museum in Tampa Florida had both his small works and 14-foot tall paintings.

Posted by: NaughtyPine at July 23, 2020 09:40 AM (sYlPw)

57 There's probably a lot going on here that eludes me, but:
The blues and greens used throughout show the many tints and colors of the sea. It is strong visually. The idea of a ship as an extension of Man (or Woman, ships are usually called 'she') is old and powerful. It is an intriguing painting. It feels like Shelly could write a poem about the image.

I have no idea what the creature in the sky is.

Dali is so strange and unpredictable in what he portrays and how, I think each painting has to be taken one at a time.

59 Dali was an odd guy, even by artist standards. He was happy to stay in Franco's Spain, and his Christian paintings are very remarkable. Too weird for the normies and too normal for the rest of the art world.

Posted by: josephistan at July 23, 2020 09:41 AM (Izzlo)

60 Reviewing my earlier comment: The legs do look too muscular and lumpy to be a woman's, but the arms and hands look more feminine. The way the hands are simply draped over the yardarm suggest that it is not a man. A man's hands would grip.

These seem to be happening in blue enclaves, like most of the violence these days. And Catholics in blue enclaves tend to be as blue as anyone else in the enclave.

So, they're now being attacked by antifa foot soldiers, their holy symbols desecrated. But these blue enclave Catholics are supposed to be the good guys. Their priests say Black Lives Matter in their homilies and they happily nod along with the Marxist sentiments implied.

It's got to be shaking them a bit about how rabid the left is getting. "But we kneeled!" is the sort of thing someone seems to say right as they are being mugged by reality.

"Having a mild case of Covid-19 is not at all good news!"

Yeah, so no...if you read the article, yes it is good news...since anti-bodies fade over time, T-Cell immunity, the kind that help you never get the virus again, actually stay. Vaccines based on creating just the anti-bodies "may" lose effectiveness over time, but even that isn't all that bad. So, the headline isn't even close to being what's in the article, and no, you can't re-catch Covid-19, and they tried to sort of kind of suggest it, they never get there because, yeah that's bunk too. What a piece of garbage and waste of time that article is.

Posted by: Boswell
Antibody titers (levels) in the bloodstream to any antigen, do go down, when the body is no longer exposed to that antigen. But the B-cells that produce those antibodies remain. And are poised to respond to the antigen again.
B and T Cell responses are both good, and both have memory to antigens.

Anything else on their feet is a sacrilege.

This is true for luxury goods. For cheap goods or inferior goods, you can't drive the price down as low as they have without pennies-on-the-dollar labor costs. But for luxury goods, the amount of the product represented by labor costs is quite a lot lower. I do not get luxury goods or high-end goods manufacturing in China or other third-world places. 336 Nike's purpose to using slave labor isn't because there is no other way to make those overpriced shoes, it's to make the profit margin as WIDE as possible. Rather than pay Americans (or, hell, even Mexicans) a few bucks per $250.00 pair, they want to pay virtually nothing in labor per pair and add that to their (and Kaepernick's) bottom line.

Nothing like going with slavery to make that mark-up go from 75x to 1000x.

For a long time it's been very "tribal," as Jonah would say... Whatever goes wrong, it's the other team's fault. Over the last ten years, a huge number of Republicans figured that out and finally gutted their own Party.

I think it will be MUCH harder for the dum-dums still loyal to the Democrat Party to wake up and smell the ersatz camp-coffee, but am hopeful some event or chain of events will do the trick.

Perhaps unabashed Maoist lawlessness from their leaders will do the trick, but I think it will only happen if they lose another election as a result. At the end of the day, the average Democrat's god is government, and political weakness and failure is probably the only thing that can really get under their skin.

367 350 Perhaps unabashed Maoist lawlessness from their leaders will do the trick, but I think it will only happen if they lose another election as a result. At the end of the day, the average Democrat's god is government, and political weakness and failure is probably the only thing that can really get under their skin.
Posted by: Yudhishthira's Dice at July 23, 2020 10:49 AM (g5Xlv)

========

An electoral blowout for Democrats this year would probably be the next major even leading to the end of their party.

The moderates would blame the radicals, and the radicals would blame the moderates. The establishment would try to wrest control from the activists and the activists would try to wrest control from the establishment.

The money men will split as well. Some will wonder why they've been funding a losing movement and others will double down on the losing strategies.

All political parties are disparate meshes of interest groups, but it feels like the Democratic Party is particularly frayed. I mean, we're not talking about the activists saying mean things about the establishment, we're talking about activists actively attacking the establishment through riot.

He had a talent for becoming famous in a peculiar society that valued his art.

But it also depends on the terms of your policy. Mine guarantees "replacement" and pro rata does not apply. I did have to pay extra for that coverage over the years but it was something like $50-$75 more on top of my 'regular' premium.

421 I've mentioned before I have some (a lot) of mental illness. I feel like that guy in the painting - a slave to the winds.

Reynolds has recommended Barbara Oakley on learning, and her course Learning How to Learn is the most popular course on Coursera.

Oakley says that Dali (and Henry Ford) would seek inspiration in the twilight stages of sleep by thinking of what they wanted to solve/create and then holding keys or similar while dozing off. When asleep, the keys would drop, wake them up, and they'd go back to work on the problem.

That works for me, but maybe that's just because I'm crazy. Still, good excuse for a nap.

Hemingway, though, maybe had a better idea. Alcohol to create and caffeine to produce.

I gave up drinking, but hopefully I will be part of the next prisoner exchange.
