From Segregation to Isolation [KT]

Cult Programming in Seattle

Christopher Rufo has done some great reporting about recent events in Seattle. About the end of CHAZ, he said:

The CHAZ saga began on June 8, under the premise that capitalism, police brutality, and the "fascist regime" of Seattle mayor Jenny Durkan were upholding a social order that systemically oppressed African-Americans. Black Lives Matter and Antifa-affiliated activists hoped to create a new regime based on familiar social-justice principles of recent years: they established a social order based on a "reverse hierarchy of oppression," implemented race-based segregation in public spaces, and maintained a "police-free zone" that they believed would protect "people of color" from the depredations of the state.

As it turns out, however, maintaining public order is a complex undertaking and can't be replaced by academic symbolism. BLM activists might despise George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and James Madison, but a regime based on the principles of Nikole Hannah-Jones, Ibram X. Kendi, and Robin DiAngelo doesn't work too well. . .

That didn't prevent the City of Seattle from going with some of those principles itself, though. As reported by Rufo at the link under the photo, the City of Seattle is segregating its employees, sort of like CHAZ/CHOP segregated people:

Last month, the City of Seattle's Office of Civil Rights sent an email inviting "white City employees" to attend a training session on "Interrupting Internalized Racial Superiority and Whiteness," a program designed to help white workers examine their "complicity in the system of white supremacy" and "interrupt racism in ways that are accountable to Black, Indigenous and People of Color." Hoping to learn more, I submitted a public records request for all documentation related to the training. The results are disturbing.

A public records request. What a great idea!

At the beginning of the session, the trainers explain that white people have internalized a sense of racial superiority, which has made them unable to access their "humanity" and caused "harm and violence" to people of color. The trainers claim that "individualism," "perfectionism," "intellectualization," and "objectivity" are all vestiges of this internalized racial oppression and must be abandoned in favor of social-justice principles.

I guess this means that we can no longer expect any objectivity from the employees of the City of Seattle. What is this going to mean in practice?

You should read on. It is disturbing.

As part of this process, white employees must abandon their "white normative behavior" and learn to let go of their "comfort," "physical safety," "social status," and "relationships with some other white people." As writer James Lindsay has pointed out, this is not the language of human resources; it is the language of cult programming--persuading members they are defective in some predefined manner, exploiting their emotional vulnerabilities, and isolating them from previous relationships.

Lindsay and others at New Discourses may be able to help if you are faced with the prospect of training like this at your place of employment. FIRE is also fielding calls from panicked employees.

Rufo notes that this training is just part of an ongoing program (in Seattle and elsewhere).

The endgame is to make Seattle's municipal government the arbiter of the new orthodoxy, and then work outward. At the end of the session on "internalized racial superiority," the diversity trainers outline strategies for converting outsiders and recommend specific "practices for interrupting others' whiteness." . . .

Surprise! "Practices for interrupting others' whiteness" is gonna require some people other that white people to learn to let go of their "comfort" and "physical safety", too.

Majority of Seattle council pledges to support Police Department defunding plan laid out by advocates.

A 50% reduction in the police budget?

The segregated training story was picked up by Fox News. Tucker Carlson noted that the nation would be infuriated if similar segregated training were developed just for Black employees.

But I think the Twitter thread in which Rufo first introduced his investigation includes more valuable information than the later news reports for people who wish to really understand how these revolutionaries operate. It includes copies of handouts (YIPES) and other information from the training sessions (though he had not gotten the names of the trainers yet). From a handout:

"How do you know when you've successfully "interrupted your whiteness"?

-When you "implicate yourself" in racism.
-When "other white people may be angry."
-When you have stopped your "white normative behavior."

There were some good responses, too:

I've been fascinated by the level of atrocities of North Korea against its own people and found it very instructive to learn how human dignity can be decimated through brainwashing.

It's amazing that Americans are doing this to themselves.

Historians will be perplexed.

Also think about this training and its isolating effect on "wrong thinkers" in relationship to Cancel Culture. There has been an effort to cancel Steven Pinker recently. He doesn't look real good here as he defines the successor ideology. But what Pinker says goes a long way toward explaining Cancel Culture. It explains why those trying to cancel him seem to be on a war footing. It's short. Take a listen.

VDH suggests that segregation may become detrimental to BLM and the other "Year Zero" thinkers in the long run. We can hope.

47 As with all of this nonsense, including the extent to which there are places in this country that are completely spooked by this silly little virus, the problem is NOT that the radical insane commie fools are doing all this.

No, the problem is, there's nobody in charge trying to stop them. It's a deeper problem than having the wrong politicians in place too. I think the problem is a political system that has for decades, rewarded people with a certain set of skills that have NOTHING to do with running cities and states and... the nation.

So when a crisis comes along? They have no clue what to do. They're not trained for that.

86 Yep BackwardsBoy you and I walked the same streets.

"Got dragged" would be more accurate. Went to UMS back when it was an all-male military academy. Loved that school and was so sad when I had to leave when Mumsey Dearest got a job at Redstone.

Heh. We had an old surplus WWII cannon out front next to the flagpole that we climbed all over before and after the school day. We gave it a motto: "Never been to war, never fired a shot. Our old cannon sure means a lot."

Good times.

It is shocking what bad governance can do. For one example, just look at Detroit. In 1950 it was one of the wealthiest cities in the world. Now look at it. (And it wasn't just the ructions caused in the automotive world. Detroit could have diversified its economy. The Big Three could have fought DC's need to tell the auto industry how to run. And so on. But ultimately the City of Detroit went out of its way to destroy itself.)

Seattle should take heed, but won't. Santayana's Law doesn't always work. People CAN study history and repeat it anyway just due to sheer hubris.

95 By "abandoning safety", I think it refers to *psychological / emotional* safety, not physical safetly.

The objective is to tear down the person's inner defenses, call it
ego, call if self-respect or personal integrity. that's their target for
destruction. It leaves the person wide open.

Posted by: Hands at July 11, 2020 11:44 AM (786Ro)

It also means physical safety... if this were only about psychological "safety", they would have used psychological terms. This is them trying to get white people to think they do not deserve and should abandon the ideas of law and public order. Without that abandonment, you will not get most of the population to agree that it is totally ok to abolish the police and let criminals (who are very disproportionately black) do whatever the hell they want to us.

You already see the physical manifestation of that in the Seattle neighborhood that pledged not to call the police. They can no longer let their children play in the park because it is now a tent city for homeless people. Drug dealers have moved in and there have been three rapes already in the last couple of weeks.

It's amazing that Americans are doing this to themselves.

Mind you, that is after another Dark Ages (Raaacist)that is inevitable should these bastards win.

But the commenter above said he has David Allen Coe songs going through his head, when he sees this stuff happening in Seattle.

Among Coe's repertoire, probably unknown to many, is some extraordinarily blatant and not even remotely subtle racist music.

I can't grok that at all. Growing up in the Buckle of the Bible Belt, I saw real live racism up close and personal.

Thankfully, I also watched it wither away and die, as it should have. We're in a far better place than we once were and everyone should know it. That we're suddenly being accused of "systematic racism" where none exists makes no sense to me. What it looks like to me is an attempt at mass brainwashing made far simpler for our enemies given the shitty state of our so-called "education system" that produces fragile little kids with outsized egos and very little in the way of common sense instead of fully formed adults.

This is some scary stuff. How can people be so intellectually weak that they'll automatically assume that they're somehow racist when they know they're not? I just don't get it at all...

209 Skip, re Romney -- from a Feb 7th 2020 KUTV poll report --

Romney's drop primarily comes among Republican voters. In October, 40% of "strong" Republicans said they approved of his job performance. Now, just 29% feel that way. His support among moderate Republicans dropped 18 points, 71% in October to 53% now. Even independent voters who lean toward the Republican party have softened their support for Romney from 49% in October to just 37% now.

Sounds like buyer's remorse to me.

They spent the last 40 years making White Males the butt of every joke on TV and Commercials.

Then in school, taught that even fighting back, was wrong and would get you suspended.

Then taught you had to parrot everything the school system said as 'truth', or you would fail.

They have spent more than a generation, teaching our Young White Males, that they are powerless, less than others, and should not fight back.

Hell, in Southern Calif you can wear a La Raza shirt to school, but can't wear an American Flag.

We've been taught to roll over, and surrender. It will be interesting to see if that teaching holds.

256 A "whites-only" training of any sort is illegal discrimination according to federal law. Period. There needs to be a lawsuit, targeting specific employees (and council members) who mandated this training.

I also think a successful religious discrimination lawsuit could be had (with the tight judge and jury) pointing out that all of the things in that training are a religion, and "establishing" a religion is un-Constitutional for a governmental body (since the incorporation doctrine).

Also swore I heard a rap lyric with the N-word from a greenside boat (no on-course gallery) when the Currys were playing 17. Also, NBC going mega-Woke with a Monday Night Race and Sports discussion on 5-affiliated Comcast networks.

213 Police In Florida Town Will No Longer Respond To 'Non-Violent' 911 Calls

How about mostly peaceful 911 calls?

"Oh Ok. Give it 5 min then it will be a violent 911 call"

And then it turns into violence is the first resort since the cops
aren't coming and that is what a number of conflicts devolve into, and
would you rather be carried by 6 then judged by 12.

And then we have to have community discussions on how we've reached a
point where minor things are getting such violent responses.

308 At the beginning of the session, the trainers explain that white people have internalized a sense of racial superiority, which has made them unable to access their "humanity" and caused "harm and violence" to people of color.
_______________

Bullshit.

What is the evidence that supports this? There is none. It's just made-up bullshit. It's based on nothing more than "we feel that this is true, therefore it must be true."

People need to stop accepting this crap, because that is all it is. When some leftist tool starts spouting off about "systemic racism," demand that he/she/it cite the proof of the racism in the system. And answers like "people of color feel marginalized" is not proof of anything except somebody's feelings, which are totally subjective.

If "systemic racism" exists in any system, it should be easy enough for people to point to the evidence that proves it. But they never do. They point to one or two incidents of racism, but that is not proof of "systemic" anything.

Are black people sometimes treated unfairly by cops? Yes, but so are white people and Asian people and hispanic people and all types of other people. That is not proof of systemic racism. Do black people sometimes get injured or killed unnecessarily by cops? Yes, but so do white people and hispanic people and Asian and all other types of people. The fact that some cops are sometimes racist is not proof that there is systemic racism is our policing system.

Systemic racism is racism that is built into the system, and perpetuated and protected by the system. Ask a lefty to name any current system that has racism intentionally built into it. They can't, because they don't exist anymore. They did exist once, but they have long since been outlawed. The only types of "systemic racism" that are still tolerated in the U.S. are the kinds that are going on in places like the Ivy League, where they blatantly and intentionally discriminate against qualified Asian applicants in admissions, because administrators don't want "too many" Asian students in their school populations.

The psychobabble bullshit that is being pushed down white peoples' throats by "Diversity Administrators" and "Inclusiveness Officers" and whatever other nonsensical titles these idiots give themselves must start being challenged as the garbage that it is. Call it out as the utter bullshit that it is. Refuse to be cowed. It's long past time people started standing up and saying NO to this crap.

With a world war?

I'd prefer to do it before then. 1923 was an important year for the nazis. So was 1936. The movement could have been stopped either time, and countless others in between. But once the German state and the western allies showed they were unwilling (morally weak) to try to stop them, it came to a war that cost tens of millions of lives.

Excellent points.

That's why I get sick to my stomach when people pretend that great strides haven't been made in racial justice and it's the same--or worse--than it ever was.

60 years ago lacks were prohibited--BY LAW--from living and working where they wanted, from going to the colleges they wanted, from marrying who they wanted, and they were barred from all sorts of things great and small including the right to vote in certain places.

NONE of this is true today.

I'd prefer to do it before then. 1923 was an important year for the
nazis. So was 1936. The movement could have been stopped either time,
and countless others in between. But once the German state and the
western allies showed they were unwilling (morally weak) to try to stop
them, it came to a war that cost tens of millions of lives.

Not intentionally being ornery, no. I probably did miss your point.

Wholeheartedly agree, force is the only way to stop it, but that's what I fear the most. We have no one who holds the levers of power right now with the will to stop it, here and now. So it's going to take a cataclysmic event, or a slow deterioration into hell before the people themselves rise up and fight.

We will have to lose much, maybe everything, before that happens.

I'd prefer not to be governed by Chamberlain, but I think right now we have a thousand little Chamberlains pulling those levers. I don't see us stopping this anytime soon.

I think the Germans were hosed either way. Their choices boiled down to the Nazis, or the Communists. Recall that in 1919 the Communists seized power in Bavaria and Berlin until the Freikorps sorted them out.

In the runup to the 1932 election the KDP and the NSDAP had running street battles (in fact, the SA was formed originally to protect NSDAP meetings from KDP adherents from breaking them up, as they did the meetings of all other parties).

By that point the Germans knew what the Commies would do, having seen the USSR's experience, and so somewhat reluctantly plumped for the NSDAP (30% of the vote, IIRC) and probably hoped that some of their rhetoric was just bluster (kind of like people now who think Iran's rhetoric is just bluster).

384 By that point the Germans knew what the Commies would do, having seen the USSR's experience, and so somewhat reluctantly plumped for the NSDAP (30% of the vote, IIRC) and probably hoped that some of their rhetoric was just bluster (kind of like people now who think Iran's rhetoric is just bluster).

I always have a hard time with the "what if" questions around other possible outcomes, because there are just too many variables about which I have no knowledge. So I figure whenever someone decides "if this had happened, things would have been better" are pointless. Because we just can't know.

The lesson for us today, I think, is paying attention to the tactics, and coming up with strategies to combat them, if we can.

Right now, the BEST I can hope for is a landslide electoral victory this fall, and with a mandate given, the Republican Party can start acting like they care what their voters want.

I almost envy the Euros of the first half of this century. They had clear lines, clear distinctions between the various factions. They knew whether to stand on this side or that. Or the other.

Now, we have so many snakes wearing human skin, nobody really knows what most of these creatures are up to. Other than the ones who are clear in their declarations now. The AOCs, the Illin Omars, even some of the BLMs. They're saying what they want. Louder and louder now.

But, for example, Mitt Romney? Really, does anyone know what he wants? Does he?

So yeah, if nothing major happens between now and then, I could easily see a landslide. And then we'd have to see if the new Speaker has some balls or not. If Mitch gets pressure from some new Senators. If new Governors are going to look at the Abbott model, and say "yeah, no. Not going that way."

I just figure voters are for the most part thinking their job is done when they vote. So if the Rs get majorities all over the place, voters will go back to sleep.

Now, we know Ryan in particular was ready to get to work as soon as Trump was inaugurated, and by getting to work, I mean undermining Trump, and serving his paymasters.

So the question is, if we give them their "mandate," do we all go back to sleep or not?

430 We have to make the GOP recognize us. I've written my delegates, congressman and senator and told them bluntly to get behind Trump's leadership of face a challenge at their next election. I even quoted someone from here. 'The tea party was us asking nicely, Trump was a demand. You don't want what's next'.

The asshoe work for us, not the grift and graft.

We defeated a... what, 5 term congresscritter here? Replaced his Gopey arse with a hot gun toting lady who is unabashedly pro-Trump.

Now, I haven't live here long enough to know for sure, but I think it's highly unlikely the Dem challenger will beat her in November.

I guess my point is, I expect a lot of backbencher types to come forth, if the landslide occurs, and they're going to have to more or less overthrow the Gopes who continue to occupy leadership positions in both houses. Or at LEAST put pressure on them, one way or another.

431 Sadly, Bertram is correct. But that's not to condemn people in general - how in the F does one, in 2020, even begin to "boycott" businesses that have made loathsome statements, done loathsome indefensible things like openly support and give $$ to vile racist hate groups like BLM?

We have a much much more oligopolistic market structure than even 20 years ago, in most things that most people consume.

How much effort, and extra $$, would it take to cut out even a few of the basic brands that dominate? Sometimes, it's not even feasible.

Contrast with Target, and their ridiculous bathroom policy debacle a few years back. They suffered - I don't think they ever backed off, though, because there's a lot more "commitment" to idiotic hateful nonsense that most people here seem to want to believe, vs. just "cynicism" or pragmatism.

Today - it's like 150 Targets simultaneously. How is one to live while excluding all the tainted products and services? One isn't. And of course most people don't have the time or inclination to even try.

I wish I could say we haven't been to Target since all that started... but we have. It's damn near impossible to NOT go there, when it's things we "need."

Same with Amazon. I can go running around to five different OTHER type stores, even mom and pop shops, to find something, and chances are good we won't find it.

Or I can spend a minute and a half on Amazon.

I just don't have the time. I hate to admit it, but there it is.

There was a boat parade on a big lake down in South Carolina over the 4th. The organizers hoped to get a couple hundred boats, they got around 3400 boats and 30,000 people from as far away as WI and PA. Biden can't fill a high school gym.

446 I whine here constantly that this WH has made zero effort to reshape a party that remains its biggest obstacle to success. Without getting into a taffy yank about all the details, bottom line is, Trump will need spectacular good luck to get a Congress that might help him accomplish serious - and "sustainable", as in written in law - good things.

Apart from Flake and Corker, unaware of any GOP/GOPe figures at congressional level who have been opposed by PDT or his WH. There have been robotic, automatic endorsements of pretty useless snakes like Tillis, and of hopeless mediocrities like McSally. There have been, so far, only a handful of incumbent GOP defeats in House primaries - against Trump endorsements.

The 60-vote problem in the Senate would likely remain, but that's just another way of saying that politics is dead. Because there no longer is any effort (at least by a McConnell-led Senate GOP) to properly politicize actual big issues and make Dem incumbents walk the plank (the main method of trying grow one's share in the Senate for generations, until about 10 years ago).

When was the last "big" vote in the Senate? Even at committee level? On any of Trump's priority items? Don't try too hard, there's nothing you're not remembering - not for years.

460 60-vote barrier in the Senate for non-privileged items (and SCOTUS nominations) is not the problem, and it won't be "fixed", most likely, since it's one of the main aspects of the Senate that maintains it's constitutional role as the less agile, and action-oriented body, the "saucer" where the heat of political conflict cools. Viewed more narrowly, most of the time senators can visualize being in the minority, and like the prerogatives of the minority or even individual member.

The problem is the lack of politics, and risk. The 60-vote threshold didn't stop tons of important legislation for decades. One just had to get it done, via political pressure, strategery, bribery, etc.

The left has become radicalized at all levels and absolutely refuses to do anything they perceive as a win for Trump. They announced the would #Resist before Trump was even sworn in and their moronic base has rewarded them for it. The country is as dug in as the Senate and every other insistution.

There are many built-in governors in the Senate, including motion to proceed to a matter being debatable, and other things, but the cloture barrier is a big one, and I don't see the body giving that up.

And Mitch doesn't need any "excuses", and doesn't generally give any. There's no WH, press, or engaged electorate driving his caucus to demand any - at all. Politics is dead in many respects, unrecognizable from the prior norm.

490 59 By "abandoning safety", I think it refers to *psychological / emotional* safety, not physical safetly.

The objective is to tear down the person's inner defenses, call it ego, call if self-respect or personal integrity. that's their target for destruction. It leaves the person wide open.

There just aren't that many statesmen left, and the Democrats have effectively killed off any in their party.

Used to be a few... they're all gone now.

Most pols in both parties are led around by poll numbers and/or perceived winds, but the single most influential thing for them is what they hear in the media, because the media gets their marching orders from the same people who pay to keep these chuckleheads in office.

505 I understand the Senate rules on rule changes, that they require a majority, not 60. So, some confusion, I'll assume I commented with insufficient precision.

And I'd be surprised if even today's incredibly degraded Senate Dem caucus would support ending a high cloture threshold for all matters, very surprised. Reid's impetuous move on judicial nominations was a disaster for them. The current minority I would not expect to be anxious to surrender one of the main institutional powers they have. And while obviously no band of all-stars, the GOP caucus is far from complacent about being in the majority, and many of them have direct experience of the benefits of Senate rules empowering individual senators and the minority.

We're unlikely to find out, which I will take as confirmation that it's a non-starter.

511 Absolutely - denial of MN's disaster request is exactly what we want and need from Trump ("we" being the country).

I thought Trump's chances in MN were excellent already, and still do. Along with NH, one state I was expecting with some confidence would be a pick-up over '16. NV, NM, CO, VA being the rest of the list, in decreasing order of likelihood.

MN Morons to the rescue, but the facts that Trump barely lost MN in '16 (I think it was one state where 3rd/4th party votes plausibly accounted for margin of loss), that there is clearly big Trump inroads into Dem bedrock votes like the Iron Range Democrats, and that Mpls going Full Violent Retard is very likely to boost suburban GOP turnout and GOP votes by indies and some Dems - all make me still think MN is doable.

I think the thing about police looking for somebody who laid rubber on the rainbow crosswalk in British California may be the current "winner" in national humiliations, however. Probably Canadian police feeling a bit insecure about being seen as lazy while British police continue to plunge further into orwellian idiocy of arresting and harassing people for their speech.

So yes Romney is as dumb, and ignorant, as all the airheads online and in the "press" claiming the commutation was to "protect" Trump. Stone's crime was trivial and self-promoting and if his lies were taken seriously, which would require ignorance of the issues and low intelligence, would be harmful to Trump, not helpful.

If Barr thinks he has a chance of restoring even a bit of the DOJ's integrity and reputation without a thorough investigation and punishment of the wrongdoing of the Mueller operation (of which the Stone prosecution was their 2nd most ridiculous), including its formation and "oversight", he's too far into the Legal Cult bubble to understand the score.

My meaning was the complete opposite - that *consumers* of statements can judge them all as completely sincere, and that that is the only basis for the *consumers* to judge integrity and clarity. If the Dems of which you speak were ever held to any, any standard of reality or accuracy or reasonableness by what used to be called the press, they'd change their blather. Consumers of same, if they have a working brain and any understanding of a topic, can/should make their own assessments of capability and integrity, currently without any help from the "press".

552 Might want to take a listen to Pinker's short description of the "successor ideology" linked near the end of the post. They are on a war footing. Dissent is a threat.

553 I just wanted to add--if Trump had anything to hide, why would he put a NeverTrumper Romney ally in Russia?
Posted by: JoeF. at July 11, 2020 04:25 PM (gtdYu)

Trump hoped Putin would be pissed at him and poison the ambassador in return?

*sneaky eyes*

554 am I the only one that hates sinatra ?

555 There never was a stitch of evidence Trump was on Russian side so Trump never had a reason to hide or stop anything looking into it. So why not stick a Never right into the middle of Russia?
I like it., good post JoeF

And yet, no one in the media--so far as I know--ever pointed this fact out as a credit to Trump.

Max Boot and Ralph Peters would believe you have a point.

Absolutely a good point. And true.

Only one example--Look at DeBlasio in NYC--completely out of his depth, yet so sure of himself and "The Cause."

558 You put Romney under oath, and I'll guarantee he won't say he believes what he said about Trump. All of the people who publicly claimed that they had evidence of Trumps malfeasance in the impeachment case admitted, under oath, that they had no evidence against him at all. THEY KNEW THEY WERE LYING.

559 mitt is just doing what he's being paid to do. just doing his job. doesn't matter what the subject matter is. sniping at trump is the job description.

Posted by: angsterdamn at July 11, 2020 04:50 PM (uEauf)

560 Mitt isn't getting paid. He is a bitter-ender. His opportunity to be preswent down in flames years ago, but Trump won when he got the chance. Mitt has been outfoxed by the party and nobody cares what he thinks about any subject. His one chance, his only chance, is for everything to collapse for Republicans, and for some crazy reason, we look to Mitt to right the ship. He doesn't have a snowball's chance in hell. Even if we lost it all, we would never go to him. But there is always hope. I guess.

562 Brennan is worried about Trump, not because he sees him as some threat to entrenched bureaucrats that make up the deep state, but because he is worried about what a threat Trump is to him personally, because of all the crimes Brennan committed as head of the CIA during the Obama years. Neither Brennan nor any other leftist agency head, gives even the briefest of farts about what happens to the entrenched bureaucrats that worked under them.

563 Romney is a lying mangash of a plastic piece of festering shit. Romney is in it for Romney, and if his bosses told him to suck off Trump tomorrow in Lafayette Park, he would do it.

First, no he wouldn't be cause kids and wife or not, there is no way Gaylord was straight.

Second, he wouldn't win because he is gay.
