19 I am guessing Hudson River School, the fine art of re-imagining the Hudson River Valley as Switzerland, or some other place much more fantastic than the actual Hudson.

It is dramatic and evocative but somehow flat. I wonder if the colors have faded over the years or it always had such a neutral palette.

Maybe because the Catskills don't look like that? Maybe because a school is trying to apply a European grandiosity to an honest American landscape that doesn't need it.

77 From Wiki:

Kindred Spirits (1849) is a painting by Asher Brown Durand, a member of the Hudson River School of painters. It depicts the painter Thomas Cole, who had died in 1848, and his friend, the poet William Cullen Bryant, in the Catskill Mountains.

88 I'm not sure when this was painted. Cole died in 1848 or so. This could be a memorial to the two men that helped give the style its prestige: Cole for practically founding the group and Bryant for being Cole's gateway into the social culture of NYC. The Hudson River School as an American version of Romanticism. It was the first real all-American artistic group.

Since we're past 100 (CBD!), we picked up our first two rescues yesterday. Both are older Borzoi. Beast is 8 and a half year old boy and Musha a petite 10 year old girl. They were infested with fleas (washed out before we got them) so they're both quite naked.

Even if their physical condition isn't great, they're not damaged mentally. Both are sociable and Musha is eager for attention.

They're in a pen of their own with indoor-outdoor access. After living outdoors all their lives, the poor things probably think they've hit the jackpot at last: an air-conditioned kennel, nice beds with blankets to lay on, free feeding of food (mixing good stuff with the crap they've been eating), clean water and lots of treats.

We don't know how long they'll be with us; given their age, ours may be their forever home. But while they're here, they'll be treated just like our guys.

He should tell them they are going back up because it is not only part of our country's history, but part of reconciliation after the Civil War. He should start drawing lines in the sand and preserving, honoring, and respecting our country's history and those who don't have zero place in our country and won't be tolerated.
He should use the COVID-19 cases in Arizona to pivot for a wall, strict zero tolerance for illegal immigration, and the need to send the rest back. That's his 2015-2016 position

2015-2016 Trump would be pounding this message. I pray he starts now.

What we have is a continuation of the first wave.
This was supposed to be "spreading the curve" with the intention that
when you reach the end of the curve you have "herd immunity" with
60-70%+ as 'recovered'.
Instead, what we have is a curve that was
starved to look like "spreading the curve" but we were left well short
of "herd immunity", so the curve continues.

This was an illustration discussed in Simon Schama's Landscape and Memory. It's a fictional composite of two of Cole's favorite sites, Kaaterskill Falls and the the Catskill Clove. The broken tree in the foreground signified Cole's premature demise; the evergreens his immortality; the hanging rock ledge the precariousness of life; the eagle flying the liberation of the soul and the river the voyage of life.

275 Alabama students throwing 'COVID parties' to see who gets infected: Officials

Rising infections prompt Gov. Kay Ivy to extend 'Safer at Home' orders.

Students in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, who have been diagnosed with COVID-19 have been attending parties in the city and surrounding area as part of a disturbing contest to see who can catch the virus first, a city council member told ABC News on Wednesday.
Tuscaloosa City Councilor Sonya McKinstry said students have been organizing "COVID parties" as a game to intentionally infect each other with the contagion that has killed more than 127,000 people in the United States. She said she recently learned of the behavior and informed the city council of the parties occurring in the city.

298 Eventually we are all going to be exposed to SARS II. How many times am I going to have to say this. It's part of the world now.

Barring a vaccine (don't hold your breath on that for this type of virus!) your best hope is antibodies.

Antibodies, btw, can be PASSED just the same as viruses are passed; also attenuated virus can be passed, that is how all of us probably received some exposure to SARS I.

WE WANT HEALTHY YOUNG PEOPLE TO GET IT AND INCREASE HUMAN IMMUNITY TO IT.

these kids are good kids, smart kids. they're actually DOING something to help.

hiding does NOTHING unless you're going to hide indefinitely (see: New Zealand, which just got a crop of new infections somehow and is freaking out).

We are in a Political Fight to the Death with People Who Will Stop at Nothing

We are in a political fight to the death with people who will stop at nothing - and I'm not talking about your average decent Democrat, but rather these Alinski radicals. And if we don't face the same realization as those Marines on Guadalcanal and give back as brutally as we have taken, then we will lose.

Which is what they want. And if we do lose to these kind of tactics, there will be no more decent people left in politics. As of today, we're one short already.

Students in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, who have been diagnosed with COVID-19 have been attending parties in the city and surrounding area as part of a disturbing contest to see who can catch the virus first, a city council member told ABC News on Wednesday. She said she recently learned of the behavior and informed the city council of the parties occurring in the city.

We went through the initial stages when the virus was going through the country for months before anyone locked down anything, and hospitals were never overcrowded.

The Constitution, Rule of Law, democratic government - it's all over if they win, and I am not even slightly kidding, or exaggerating.

There are stories throughout the Bible of God working through flawed people.

None of us are perfect people. Some are more flawed than others.

But I agree that we cannot afford to cast people out of the cause for whatever imperfections we think they may have.

The first step to opening people's eyes to the righteousness of conservatism is for them to be willing to listen. Let's not turn away those showing a willingness to listen and learn.

Harry Potter is amazingly derivative of like 80 different sources, and it retells the same extremely weary tale of the poor boy going to a public school (Brit version) yet again. I mean... Neil Gaiman wrote a comic book series about a boy wizard in a school who flies on a skateboard years before Harry Potter came out. It was incredibly similar in a shocking number of ways.

But... it combines all of these in an engaging and interesting way, to create something effective.

453 I like the idea of electric cars, but the reality is... they aint working yet and probably will not in our lifetimes. This whole "we're going to be all electric in ten years" stupidity that keeps being repeated has been said for the last 30 years. It keeps being not true because the tech is not there.

And my problem with Tesla is that he got to be a billionaire by taking money from the federal government. He didn't build himself up by business he took subsidies and grants from the government until he was fabulously wealthy. And people rip on Edison all the time for not being an actual inventor (false, he invented and innovated a ton of stuff) but Tesla's claim to fame is even weaker than Steve Jobs, who did create stuff early on.

He basically says "I want all this stuff in a car, here's a huge stack of money from the government: make it happen" Then goes and smokes weed and works toward having people build a rocket ship.

I was lucky enough to visit Edinburgh once, and walked through the old Greyfriars Kirkyard & Cemetary on the edge of the Old Town - fantastic place to visit, a must see site if you're ever there. Look up some pictures (I know I took a bunch) and the entire spooky setting of the Potter series is there, the medieval crypts with dancing skeletons, the old iron cages around some of them to keep ghouls from getting in (and the dead from getting out) , it's mesmerizing.

Rowling wrote large parts of her Potter books while sitting on a bench in that cemetery. One of the favorite pastimes of Rowling fans is to walk around and see how many of her character names they can find on the gravestones. I didn't have time to find many, but I was absolutely elated to find 2 (Two!!!) Blackadders! Yeah, they were real!

Nothing, you done told her twice already.

To be fair, Musk has an imaginary story too. Tesla already existed when he bought it, and he resorted to some expensive legal means to stop the real founders from saying he didn't found it. Real nice guy.

Reminds me of the story of McDonald's (The Founder, with Michael Keaton, where he took idea from original owners and then cut them out of the business after franchising) and Facebook (Zuckerberg stole idea from Winklevoss twins).

510 One of my kids watched some Netflix show about the environment. Typical indoctrination. So I asked him if we should get rid of cars and air conditioning and the internet in order to save the environment. He said you mean like going back to the 18th century? I said yeah. He thought about it for a second and said no that would be dumb.

And just like that He got it. This is how you change people. Dont yell at them dont call the communists. Just put it in simple terms that a kid can understand.
