The Morning Rant: Minimalist Edition

punk-monkey.jpg

Why do you oppose abortion? For many it is the religious prohibition, for many it is that the value of life is not dependent on anything other than our humanity. Assigning a value to humanity based on anything other than intrinsic and immutable things is a slippery slope.

Which is exactly the point of abortion and euthanasia. The Nazis knew that, and began in 1933 with the careful and seemingly gentle culling of the most vulnerable among them: the weak, the infirm, the congenitally ill, the retarded.

But our humanity does not disappear when we become ill or demented or are too young to survive outside of the womb. The push to euthanize is functionally identical to the Nazis' first steps toward the Final Solution and the Holocaust.

Targeting People With Mental Illness and Dementia for Euthanasia

What about the U.S.? Would we ever follow such a course? As of now, the nine states and the District of Columbia that have legalized assisted suicide limit access to patients who are terminally ill. But that’s more a political expediency than a principled limitation. Indeed, restricting assisted suicide to the dying is philosophically unsustainable.

Think about it. If the point of allowing suicide by doctor is to eliminate suffering — and if eliminating suffering can include eliminating the sufferer — how can facilitated death be forbidden to patients, such as those with dementia and mental illness, who may suffer far more extremely and for a much longer time than the already dying? It makes no sense.

Because it is merely the first steps on the way to unrestricted state control of every aspect of our lives and deaths. it only becomes consistent and logical when control over the death of humans is taken from God and ceded to the state.

The murder of innocents in the womb is the sacrament of the Democrat/Progressive movement in America. But to assume that they respect all other life is naive in the extreme, both logically and from even casual observation of their actions. It does not stop with abortion; it ends in concentration camps.

Melodrama? No. It has happened before, and human nature says that it will happen again. So fighting abortion is not just a religious imperative reserved for the devout, it is the first battle against the worst excesses of the progressive drive for control. But a second front is developing, and we must push back against any hint that the aged and demented are any less human and deserving of society's protection than the hale and hearty and productive.

That hits home with many of us; yes, it is a struggle with our parents, but defending their lives and intrinsic value is moral, and anything short of a full-throated defense of their lives and dignity is a failure on our and society's part.

16 Oh and abortion...sure, ok, we can talk about that.

Abortion is killing. I support killing when it's justified. I don't support killing out of convenience.

If you tell me I have to kill a baby or kill my wife, then yeah, kill the baby. Not happy about it but that's my position.

Kid's PROBABLY going to be born retarded...that's a harder sell, to kill it. I've got a cousin with down's syndrome. Raising him was hell on my aunt and uncle and contributed to their divorce (though most of it was due to my uncle being an asshole Liberal). Tough call, might have been better off but the kid's all right and live in assisted living home, holds at job, etc. So I can't endorse killing the handicapped.

It's not abortion, it's killing. Frame it like that and it should make it clear when it's justified and when it's not.

My $.02

If you look at places that have assisted suicide + socialized medicine, such as the Netherlands, things get out of hand quickly. Netherlands has Groningen Protocol, which is post-birth abortion (where doctor decides; parent have no say). In the last few years they've also extended assisted suicide to people under 18 - forget the age requirement - but really, allowing *teens* to decide to suicide?!? Hello, teens are emotional rollercoasters with no great life experience/wisdom to understand that whatever they're dealing with (big or small) can be overcome, will almost always not be as bad as they think at the time.

India has banned TikTok and other Chinese mobile apps on the grounds of National Security. Prime Ninister Naredra Modi's government has blacklisted 59 China-based apps, calling them malicious tools that harm India's sovereignty as well as the privacy of its citizens.

The banned Chinese apps were "prejudicial to sovereignty and integrity of India, defense of India, security of state and public order," the Indian government said in a statement. India's Ministry of Information Technology accused these apps of "stealing" and "surreptitiously transmitting" user data.

No, not really. It's more about not allowing the teacher's union and the Democrats, but I repeat myself, from discriminating about school choice funding for religions schools. This will further weaken the teacher's union iron grip on the education of kids and give parents more freedom.

Given how 5 or so DEMOCRAT governors insisted that Wuhan flu infected people be placed in nursing homes, despite other hospitals being available to take them (such as the federal government's temp hospitals, Samaritan's Purse hospital in NYC), that seems like a reasonable theory.

Add to that the NY state was dealing with a huge Medicare funding need and Cuomo wants to provide free healthcare to illegal aliens, killing off seniors is a way to do it.

96 There are two major problems with euthanasia that I see, and neither of them is that it is suicide. I think suicide is wrong, but that's a vain and stupid thing to say. I have no way of knowing what another man's limits are. And that is part of the problem - neither is the doctor. Only the man himself does, and if he takes his own life then it is a tragedy but I am not going to judge it. I can't.

My two huge major problems are sort of aligned with this. First is that "assisted suicide" isn't. It's just killing with a different name. Is it justifiable homicide? Maybe. I can't judge that, either. But the state - and the medical industry in general - doesn't have a splendid track record in this regard, and I don't trust them to make good decisions or act as effective gatekeepers. I think the state should not be enabled by law to do so. Doctors are a stickier problem, but I probably agree with prohibiting (or, rather, not enabling) them, too.

The other is a "slippery slope" problem. Right now, it is voluntary. What happens when euthanasia becomes compulsory? Who decides and by what standard? How is corruption to be managed? At what point does it become a genocide of the undesirables, under the auspice of a man in a white coat and pleasant bedside manner? Moreover, whether voluntary or compulsory, what is the standard of acceptance? How does it change? How are those changes rationalized? In a system where such a thing is legal, a cancer patient in constant agony and less than three months to live anyway is a sort of obvious scenario. But what about less obvious things? What about a teenager who has had his heart broken and is in the throes of anguished, debilitating depression? This will pass, of course - the loss of a first love always does - but the teenager doesn't know that. What if "depression" becomes a legal cause for "assisted suicide?"

The whole thing is too fraught with peril. If a man wishes to kill himself, then he may do so. No law will ever change that. There are means aplenty - some messy, some clean, some fast, some slow, some easy, some hard, but means nonetheless.

I oppose the death penalty even when entirely justified because the state and judicial systems have proven themselves unreliable arbiters of truth, justice or honesty. I oppose the death penalty not for moral reasons - I firmly believe that there *are* killing offenses - but because I don't trust those who carry it out. And I don't want to be a party to wrongful homicide performed in my name by men I don't trust. Euthanasia regimes have the same problems with even less accountability and even greater dishonesty and even more perverted incentives. Even if there is a moral argument to made for "mercy killing" - and I think there probably is - it is not a problem that the state or a medical system is disposed toward solving fairly if at all.

The expediency of the day will rule such a system, and the corpses will pile up as a result. All you need to do is look back 6-8 weeks at the executive orders that sent thousands of "worthless" old people to their deaths in nursing homes to see how this will play out at first. It only gets worse from there.

99 A 20 year old girl or boy is old enough to use precautions or face the consequences....which contrary to today's youth opinion was not ruinous.

I graduated from HS in 1975. I knew several girls who "fucked around", "got knocked up" and survived to become responsible professionals. Most put up the child for adoption, 2 married the father and one of these marriages survives to this day. The one who got divorced became a physician, as is the child. Some ruination.

Today it is even easier to survive the ruinous consequences of accepting your responsibility without killing your son or daughter. Yep, it might be embarrassing for a while, but a lot of things are. It's up to you to not become a lazy drug addict and to keep your life together after a detour.

Not really - it applies to special circumstances that AKAIK, only apply inside Montana at the current time.

in 2015, Montana enacted a special tax credit for individuals who donate money to provide scholarship money for private schools. All private schools were elated, but the program was sued and declared unconstitutional by the Montana Supreme Court since it also provided funding for some Religious Schools. Supreme Court simply ruled that you can't discriminate between private secular schools and private religious schools when it comes to government programs, or tax credits.

BUT legislatures can still easily discriminate against ALL private schools, which they most certainly will do. So, in my view this decision won us very little.

Except the corollary to that argument is they are killing religious freedom in other ways and thereby diminishing religious education. That's exactly what Roberts did this term.

It's not about people's right to an religious education or practice. It's about despots like Roberts dictating to you what an individual can, and cannot practice. He's not attempting to get to equality. He's essentially trying to fix the societal "rule" and mores to his personal liking.

There has been a precipitous decline in areas such as Catholic education because authoritarian buffoons like Roberts are continually ensuring our society is more sacrilegious, Constitution and individual rights be damned.

SCOTUS has become a big part of the problem. There is no balance anymore. They've become a big part of the problem and putting their imprimatur on a specific political agenda is their aim.

137 The human fetus is:
Genetically human.
Biologically alive.
Physically separated (connected only by umbilical) and genetically distinct from the mother.
Without medical interference, the vast majority of pregnancies will result in the delivery of a healthy baby.
It cannot be anything other than a developing human life by any form of logic.

Where do people get off assuming that they have a right to intervene in - and prevent! - the healthy development of another human being?

It doesn't add up, and promoting the idea that such a right exists is a gateway to totalitarianism of the most Mengele-esque sort.

Yep, it might be embarrassing for a while, but a lot of things are. It's up to you to not become a lazy drug addict and to keep your life together after a detour.

The problem with adoption nowadays is that activists push for open adoption records. This dissuades some women from going that route because they don't want the kid to drop into their life some time down the road.

Having gone through the journey of my hubby finding his birth parents (and in speaking with others who did this w/mixed success). the process can be scary for everyone involved. It is opening Pandora's box. Hubby and the other adoptees speculate this push for open adoption records is intentionally done to push people into aborting instead of adopting.

I called no one a slut. I pointed out that, generally speaking, a women who has a large number of sexual partners ends up in a worse place than one who does not. Choices, consequences.

I saw a pretty great movie last night:

"The Square" (2107) by Ruben Ostlund

It's a rather funny comedy of manners concerning Our Betters in Swedish society, where all the "Elite" are members of the Radical Chic.

The main character is the director of a Modern Art Museum, who experiences an unusual kind of robbery of his cell phone, wallet, and cuff links.

As a result, he becomes a bit unhinged and wants to find a way to get all of his stuff back. He neglects his job. Most importantly, he neglects the opening of a new art piece called "The Square".

Plus, his solution for getting his possessions back sets up even more problems for him and others in a widening series of interlocking reactions.

There is some rather pointed satire of the Modern Art scene. And of all these well-off, self-satisfied people but essentially useless people with their useless jobs and their constantly stated but never acted upon "personal (marxist) morality", waltzing by the homeless every day.

And you think you're in typical, same old boring, European, marxist social comedy territory, but you're not.

Ostlund has something much more interesting on his mind.

The story is told in a series of vignettes, which expose the hypocrisy and the distance between the director's words and beliefs and his actions. The comedy is sometimes surprising and often in the realm of "cringe comedy" as the main character slowly comes to the realization of what he should do.

His solution, Ostlund's solution, the solution for every one of us living in "The Square" (symbolism, baby!) is a very American one. One, which would be recognized by generations of Americans before we were educated out of the realm of common sense by marxism.

"The Square", as an art exhibit, is simply a lit square on the ground with the following sign:

"The Square is a sanctuary of trust and caring. Within it we all share equal rights and obligations."

Obviously, "The Square" is society.

So, there are rights we should expect in society but there are also obligations on everyone, even the homeless.

Ostlund clearly believes, as shown by the vignettes, that there must also be freedom of both action and freedom of speech. And also the freedom afforded by forgiveness both for yourself and others, If you do wrong, try to correct it. then move on.

But, here's the thing.

"The Square", which must've seemed very good in 2017, in 2020, at least for Americans, seems near great and prescient as hell.

Practically, everything we're experiencing from the Democrats/Left/Our Betters can be seen in a gentle, comedic, allegorical form in this movie.

Just watch the astonishing Fund Raising Dinner scene with Performance Art for entertainment, and tell me that doesn't represent a brilliant distillation of the Rise of Antifa/BLM and Our Betters reaction to it.

I don't want to over sell "The Square" but in pretty much every way Ostlund frustrates all the marxist expectations of his marxist viewers and here's the important part-

does it with finesse, wit, cleverness and entertains us at the same time.

So, as a warning, this is a European movie which means the pace is slower, though I was never bored, and there are some subtitles even though large p-atches are spoken in English. This is a gentle though sharp comedy, so no fart jokes.

If this sounds appealing to you, watch it. You won't regret it.

170 In my stupid youth, I thought it was up to the woman to deal with the situation. Several of my college friends (at a Christian college) had abortions, and they were broken afterwards.

In grad school, a guy in one of my classes asked me what my reaction would be if I had a child and the man who fathered it took it and killed it. Before I could respond, he said, "Think about the men who fathered these children and didn't get a chance to raise them. Sure, there were men who pushed killing a baby because they didn't want to pay, but more men than you think are broken hearted at the lost children."

When my boss told me that I could either have an abortion or keep my job at State, I knew I was done with both abortion, and that godless entity.

This case was fairly narrow along religious lines but still obviously big when 3 dozen states are already discriminating on this basis. We've only 4 dozen or so states and the majority of alternative schools ARE religious schools.

It's pretty good and entertaining, but I felt like it wasn't as interested in one of its central questions of "what is art?"

The titular square excites no one and is mostly ignored, but the main character mindlessly okays a commercial about it that's really outrageous and provocative. People get excited about the commercial instead of the square itself. Which one was art?

196 I was reading a blurb on FreeRepublic the other day about how God ordered the Israelites into the land of Canaan and, to use a phrase, "smite them royally."
The commenter was discussing how wholesale slaughter could be leveraged against the Canaanites for their sins. The Canaanites were practicing all sorts of nasty stuff- mostly sex crimes based. God had lost patience with them.
The interesting part, though, was that God had given them time to repent- something on the order of 400 years, if I am recalling the article correctly.

So, it got me to thinking- are we as a nation running out of time, or are we out? Is our side- the side of laws, rationality, religion and morality really eclipsed by the left? Or is it just that the left has a platform and they really aren't a significant majority? I can't tell anymore. I try to tell myself that all the negativity is just yellow press, negativity sells, its what gets news, and its in the minority. I tell myself that the majority of people in our country are like us.

Some of the morons on here are older than me and Ace (26, if I recall) so i know we have been through worse times. But this feels different- like we are on the cusp of something larger and incomprehensible.

197 You don't change people's minds with insults and pejoratives. Keep in mind there are some people you may never convince. People who must learn on their own- or may never learn. On the abortion issue its incredibly effective to help people embrace the precious nature of life and the true miraculous gift of having children. That includes the existential aspects and how today's children will change our world in the future.

This is why they don't want people to embrace religion or demur from politics for common sense decisions you can feel in your soul.

198 The human fetus is:
Genetically human.
Biologically alive.
Physically separated (connected only by umbilical) and genetically distinct from the mother.
Without medical interference, the vast majority of pregnancies will result in the delivery of a healthy baby.
It cannot be anything other than a developing human life by any form of logic.

Where do people get off assuming that they have a right to intervene in - and prevent! - the healthy development of another human being?

It doesn't add up, and promoting the idea that such a right exists is a gateway to totalitarianism of the most Mengele-esque sort.

This is what one SCOTUS justice rightly described as "Natural law." AKA "The way life works."

Another pushback would be that when some feminazi says "My body, my choice (trademark thingy)," the reply should be, "What about your child? What would he or she say?"

Another pushback to the "a fetus is only a clump of cells" would be to offer to remove a clump of cells from whomever said that. See how they'd like it.

"Which cells?" you may axe? Does it matter?

This is evil sentiment.

Birth control is readily available. The more you take away the fact that ACTIONS HAVE CONSEQUENCES, the quicker you're going to destroy society.

Sex is a choice. You don't HAVE to have it. If you do, there are certain results that you're completely aware of should you not take it seriously.

202 Fascinating paper discussing method of transmission and spread of influenza.

A narrative that explains the phenomenon is:

1) that there is only a small subset of the population which is infective. But they are very infective.

2) these spreaders are activated primarily when their Vit D levels drop (usually) due to lack of sunlight.

3) when sig portion of pop also has depressed Vit D and hence depressed reistance the disease spreads from the spreaders to non-spreaders.

It's more complicated than that. I do not have all the parts all moving together perfectly. But that's the general idea

It's well worth the read. Especially the crazy part where they discuss the failed attempts in 1918 to pass the flu to healthy people and fail massively. We really are a candy assed terrified generation.

Actually it is, but its facing serious opposition because for the left, abortion is a sacrament, a sacred and protected act. Mostly to hide the evidence of their molestations and rapes, mind you.

But minds have been changed over the decades, culture has shifted away from open support of abortion at all times and ages, and state laws are chipping away at the edges.

However, there's some reason to guess (CNN selling its property, for example) that these are the last spastic dying gasps of the left's power as well. That they are up against a wall and furiously fighting for their last chance. I don't know which is which.

"how can facilitated death be forbidden to patients, such as those with dementia and mental illness, who may suffer far more extremely and for a much longer time than the already dying?"

Define "suffering".

Is a person with Down's suffering in the same way as a person with terminal lung cancer?

Ditto the dude with Alzheimer's.

Doctor assisted suicide is a difficult topic, for sure, but the writer says it's based on political expediency when I think that the writer is a gutless chickenshit for not wanting to admit that wanting to kill retards and old folks with dementia is far more about expediency than anything else. People like this they want to be free of the suffering that comes with having to care for someone who may have lost the ability, or may never have the ability, to care for themselves.

268 It's pretty good and entertaining, but I felt like it wasn't as interested in one of its central questions of "what is art?"

The titular square excites no one and is mostly ignored, but the main character mindlessly okays a commercial about it that's really outrageous and provocative. People get excited about the commercial instead of the square itself. Which one was art?
Posted by: TheJamesMadison, fighting terrorist in Nakatomi Tower at June 30, 2020 11:38 AM (LvTSG)

Too a certain extent the art question was answered at the very beginning, when the director asks the reporter,

"if I put your purse, over there in the museum, does that make it art?"

And the girl can't answer.

Though given what we see, I suspect the director would say it is, if he puts it in the museum.

The piles of dirt are also pretty much a clue.

But, in all honesty, the what is art? question was like a second or third degree topic not part of the main flow

Also, downvoting movies that promote anti-Americanism and anti-Christianity would be another.

Once the count went past 1 the odds dramatically took a dive and then kept collapsing the more partners you have.

314 217 Morning.

"how can facilitated death be forbidden to patients, such as those with dementia and mental illness, who may suffer far more extremely and for a much longer time than the already dying?"
Define "suffering".
Is a person with Down's suffering in the same way as a person with terminal lung cancer?

Ditto the dude with Alzheimer's."

I have been in ICU waiting rooms, I have been a party to end-of-life decisions. A big part of the dilemma we face today is that our technological and medical capabilities have leapfrogged past our intellectual and moral framework. We now have the ability to do things, like prolong life even in dire circumstances, that previous generations never faced. That is causing us a great deal of trouble.

For me, in the situations I've seen, my decision depends on the question, is there any chance of this person recovering to the point that they can maintain their life themselves? For instance, if someone is on intravenous or tube feeding, is there a good prospect of them regaining the ability to take nourishment by themselves? If not, for example in permanent coma, then I would say terminate it. Same thing with breathing machines, is there a good chance of recovery? If not, that is time to let them go.

"Suffering" is a false and easily manipulated concept, I don't think it's reliable for any serious discussions. BUT the lack of any meaningful chance of recovery is, to me at least, controlling when combined with the inability to sustain life by any normal and natural methods.

I am told they do this very thing in Canada. I had a boss who was stationed up at the Consulate in Vancouver BC. He had friends who came to the US for cancer treatment because the medical bureaucrats do a cost benefit analysis on you- looking at your age, cost of treatment (and also no doubt net worth because, taxes). If it was too expensive- you got a visit from a candy striper with a bottle of pills.

This was anecdotal, of course, but i have no reason not to believe him.

336 I am told they do this very thing in Canada.

Same thing in every Scandanavian country. If you're too expensive or old for the state to pay for, you are helped to die, or laid out and let starve if you're not deemed important like a celebrity or politician. Rich people can pay for their own care.

But, its pretty much true here as well. If you are very old and not super rich, doctors will say 'well there's no point fighting this, you're going to die soon anyway'. I cannot get dentists to help my mom's crumbling teeth because she's in her 80s and, well, who cares if she can barely eat, she's so old now anyway

The best way to avoid killing grandpa is to quit forcing COVID patients into nursing homes. Half or more of all COVID deaths are in nursing homes. They fucked up cause-of-death stats so badly that we'll likely never know for sure (and this was probably a major point of that - to cover their tracks) but this virus sucks to get but isn't all *that* lethal outside of institutional settings.

Use some of that big MLB money to put him up in a condo and hire a live-in, American-born nurse with good hygiene to care for him. That is a much better answer than quitting your job, I think.

If you don't want to kill grandpa, quit voting for Democrat governors that callously kill grandpa.

Killing innocent people is bad. Killing innocent people on purpose is evil.

My point is that the culture tells them it's good. It never is and they'll suffer for it in a myriad of ways both physical and mental. Spiritually, sure, but i doubt there was much there to start with.

Most other Europeans were quite welcoming (even the Parisians!), which I didn't expect. the surprising thing was in Spain- anytime i spoke spanish to the locals (high school and some college spanish- very rusty) I almost ALWAYS got a shocked look when i told them I was an American. They thought i was french or something else- but never a Yank. I made it a point to say, "Well, all Americans are as good looking, well mannered and friendly as me."

375 Ahhhhh, now we get to the heart of the issue.....

Assuming that the Times is right and that the matter was included in the PDB in late February, how could Trump have missed it? That's simple: "Mr. Trump is said to often neglect reading that document, preferring instead to receive an oral briefing summarizing highlights every few days," the Times notes. His disinterest in the Daily Brief, one of the most fascinating intelligence documents in the world, was also noted a few months ago amid fingerpointing about why the feds didn't move sooner to address the coronavirus epidemic when it was percolating in China early this year.

Trump doesn't read every single line in the PDB, so they slip an unactionable unverified intelligence assessment in about Russians paying bounties, knowing that the briefer won't include it in the oral brief. Then run screaming to the NYT that trump is colluding with the Russians to get American soldiers killed. Tries to make a case that Trump is still on the side of the Russians, and doesn't care about our military, and is inept by not reading the entire PDB.

This is of course somewhat personal to me. I've always been aghast about aborting people with disabilities. But when my daughter was diagnosed with Dandy-Walker, it got very real. I was dealing with a team of doctors at a Children's Hospital, and while many doctors may be gung-ho for MOAR ABORSHUNZ, these guys are sort of in the opposite business.

So, while none of them urged us to abort - quite the opposite - they all went through the pro-forma legal obligation to mention that it's "an option," as they put it.

That was when it really struck me - at some point along the line, Americans went from "Eugenics are abhorrent" to "Eugenics is totes cool. It's 'an option.'"

Makes we wonder why even bothered defeating Naziism.

Posted by: BurtTC at June 30, 2020 11:55 AM (hku12)

I took the family to Europe for three weeks a couple of years ago and had a great time (France, UK, Spain, Portugal). The Portuguese were the most friendly and hospitable. I remember chatting with a barkeep who was envious of me being an American due to low taxes.
Hey, I do what i can for 'Merica!

I think what you describe is a fairly common experience. Individual Americans are treated with warmth and respect, and then the Euros, if they think about it at all, they just assume the sister-f**king racists are just too poor and stupid to come to Europe.

So you're one of the "good ones."

432 Let me bang a drum again in the hopes that it might in some infinitesimal way get to someone who might actually be involved in the President's messaging.

What if Biden drops out in October? Then "white horse" candidate, no debates with DJT because "too late" and "too much to do" and then a pure media campaign.

In that scenario, which I consider likely, and already planned, all the negative attacks against "sleepy, demented etc Joe" come to naught --and will be exploited as just another example of Trump being "vicious, attacking" etc.

Obvioulsy PDT hasn't gotten to where he is by avoiding fights, but I see a Rope a Dope coming of epic proportions in which PDT punches himself out against Sleepy Joe who he wont' even be running against come November.

The answer, such as it is: The President, and ALL of us, need to get our positive message out there, and the choices. Promote the indispensible value and exceptional nature of America, and how this election is a referendum on whether you believe in America and want to help our Republic succeed or want to tear it down out of bitterness and misguided racial obsessions.

Not incidentally, in my focus group of two teenaged boys: one pretty damned conservative and the other an indepdendent type, but very thoughtful (Joe Rogan fan etc) both were and are much more receptive to pro America ideas than the idea of always slamming the left. For example, they want to turn off Mark Levin but will listen closely to a Dennis Prager or Brian Kilmeade.

Any moderately advanced space-faring civilization will have eliminated physical needs scarcity-- unlimited energy and resources.
AI robots-- self-aware or not-- will run everything.

So the only true rarity, scarcity remaining would be life.

Your alien would value a living human over an entire planet made of gold.

But, even from an economics perspective-- nothing has value unless someone else values it.
Life, then, has no value unless we value it.
We value gold more than life.

Killing baby human lives is a horror any other species would sentence us to extermination for committing.

But the "I f**king love science" crowd thinks aliens would be super impressed with their use of the metric system over the imperial.

From the article I posted at #311

Zimmerman was the Nationals' first-ever draft pick in 2005 and has played his entire career in D.C. The veteran welcomed a son with his wife, Heather, three weeks ago, and started the ZiMS Foundation in 2007 in honor of his mother, Cheryl, who was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 1995. In a diary for the Associated Press released Friday, Zimmerman detailed his reservations about playing, the potential of getting his family sick and the reality of not seeing his mother "until weeks after the season is over." [ ... ]

Ross has not issued a statement yet, but family also appears to have played a role. His father is a pediatrician and his mother is an emergency room nurse in Oakland. General manager Mike Rizzo said in a statement that both Ross and Zimmerman decided to opt out for "the personal health and safety of themselves and their loved ones." [ ... ]

On Monday night, Desmond said the pandemic made this season "a risk I am not comfortable taking."

In an in-depth Instagram post, Desmond described how the killing of George Floyd last month in Minnesota forced him to confront his own past growing up as a biracial child in Florida. Floyd's death, Desmond said, "broke my coping mechanism. Suppressing my emotions became impossible."

Desmond discussed his frustration with the league and its lack of minority representation, and how that has trickled into youth baseball. "Right now in baseball, we've got a labor war. We've got rampant individualism on the field," he wrote. "In clubhouses we've got racist, sexist, homophobic jokes or flat-out problems. We've got cheating. We've got a minority issue from the top down. One African American GM. Two African American managers. Less than 8 percent Black players. No Black majority team owners."

Desmond wrote that he intended to stay home with his wife Chelsey, who is pregnant, and their four children, and to work with his old Little League in Sarasota.

Isn't it great that we're judging people in management positions in MLB based on the color of their skin, instead of the content of their character or whether or not they're actually good at their job?

454 And while we are discussing the prospect of euthanizing/aborting all those deemed "defective", consider the following scientific fact:
It is Caucasians (white people of European ancestry) that possess the greatest number of genetic defects on their chromosomes/DNA helix. The evidence for this is not hard to see. For example, which race of people have the greatest diversity in their genes? (think hair color, eye color, etc...). Thus, from a scientific perspective, it's easy to identify the "defective" ones. And from that frame of reference, it's not hard to envision a future state sponsored mandate to exterminate all people of European ancestry.

459 "Assigning a value to humanity based on anything other than intrinsic and immutable things is a slippery slope."

Genes are intrinsic and immutable. Let's assign value to humanity based on race, like you suggest.
