From Bristol, England to Birmingham, Alabama, people all over the world have been grappling with the legacy of racism by tossing their grappling hooks around the heads of problematic monuments. The activist class, not satisfied with removing Confederate memorials, is now coming for Christopher Columbus. The Italian explorer, who never set foot on American soil, became enmeshed in our historical legacy thanks to national outreach to the once reviled Italian American diaspora. In contrast, many Confederate memorials were actually erected half a century or more after the Civil War, as part of an overtly racist movement specifically against recognizing or honoring the rights of black Americans. Columbus was elevated as a means of integrating and accepting into American society a large and discriminated-against immigrant group. But let's not delude ourselves by pretending Columbus was a good or praiseworthy man. Yes, he might have been courageous to set out on such an uncertain journey, but even by his own contemporary standards, Columbus was uniquely cruel and probably criminal. ... [K]ing Ferdinand and Queen Isabella, the Spanish monarchs who dispatched Columbus to the New World, specifically instructed him to "abstain from doing" harm to the natives he encountered.Guys I'm so glad we have an alternative "right-leaning" media. Columbus did not heed this command. Instead, he established a proto-encomienda system rife with forced labor and rape. Whereas many other European explorers tried to work with natives or focused on converting them to Catholicism, Columbus immediately planned how he'd make the native Taino people "good servants" when he first encountered them in 1492. He made thousands of them servants, mutilating slaves and either gifting or selling women and girls into sexual slavery. The rumors of Columbus's offenses against the natives, including torture, were so obscene that Ferdinand and Isabella ordered Francisco de Bobadilla to investigate his behavior in Hispanola.

Haven't seen it yet - the movie was very funny - but I learned something interesting. A lot of my tippy top favorite shows have been on FX (Justified, Archer, Fargo to name a few) and I never understood why.
Turns out they don't pay very well BUT they do cede creative control to the creators rather than stepping in and overseeing as most - or maybe all - other networks do. I imagine mostly for wokeness, political reasons, personal reasons, usual crap, etc.
In other words, when you watch an FX show, you are getting to see a relatively pure creation, mostly unimpeded by bullshit from outside forces and especially our lefty friends. Makes total sense. I hate most TV. I knew it wasn't a coincidence.

I guess this is based on their experience from Evergreen. This came up particularly in regard to Nature and Science journals coming out in support of BLM.

Yes. Part of the rationale for exempting social media from libel laws was that since their comments content would not be curated trolls and others could do exactly that. The editing and censoring of content have violated all the exemptions given to social media. For the first time I think Congress may be forced to act and it would be an optimum time to ditch shares before that happens.

Mayor then ordered the statue taken down for 'public safety concerns".

Great, just posting that makes anything you do hereafter a murder one (premeditated) charge.
Sadly, they are allowed to maim and kill - the most that they get is a low level homicide charge, and that likely would not be prosecuted since the leadership here in the former United States is utterly corrupt.
Which leaves the alternative, which is definitely capital murder: tracking and hunting down the perps, one by one, disappearing them when they retreat to their lairs.
While the last option is the only chance one would have to do what is necessary and live to fight another day, the ethical, legal and moral challenges regardless of how rotten and despicable the frauds in leadership are, is the prohibiting issue.
Until it becomes total war, I'm afraid that we have to watch the world burn.
OTOH, it seems we aren't calculating in the secondary and tertiary effects of these riots. Yes, corporate America is gone full Communist Chinese on us and sees the traditional American values as something that must be destroyed.
But what about the truckers and the underwriters? As this thing becomes more chaotic, I would think that drivers would consider their own health and welfare to be more important than making that delivery into a hotspot. Dittos with underwriters, why write a policy on a sure loss? If they don't, why would a shipper even take a risk on an uninsured job where the cargo , vehicle and the driver become a total loss?
This may burn itself out just because our Enemy is stupid, lazy and pure evil.
And if it comes out into the burbs or rural areas? Well the calculations change somewhat.

True, but there is a difference here. Those funding this revolution are consolidating power they already have. While the wealthy and academics in France and Russia did have some power, it wasn't nearly to the degree of corporate America, which more or less has absolute power as it is. This is just making sure their power remains intact in perpetuity, particularly as they toss the keys to the United States to the People's Republic of China (which, ironically, they kind of control, too).
We really should have burned D.C. to the ground when the first coup was attempted but we still had a wildly misplaced trust in the system, which is why we are or were conservatives. It was perceived, perhaps rightly, as weakness and so things got ratcheted up starting with the lock downs, which were absolute violations of all our civil liberties. We didn't push back on that, either, and now we are here.

A 'militia' tried to protect a statue. They were attacked. Calls were to 'Kill him' as he was beaten by 3 ft long skateboards.
He pulled to defend himself. The mayor called in the cops to DISARM THE MILITIA, because they, by being there, were formenting violence, even though they were only defending themselves.
Mayor then ordered the statue taken down for 'public safety concerns".
The Government is no longer neutral, a lot of it is flat out against us."
That's the reality and until something like that militia prevails in a straight-up shooting match, it will continue. Then the forces will be deployed in ways we never imagined possible in this country. It will just take a spark now.

What is considered "victory"? And how would you recognize it, and how would you guarantee it?
Furthermore, no one knows how long a conflict would last. Lets say that a horde came up to your perimeter and were threatening to steal all of your goods, maybe burn down your house. How many, if any do you take out?
If the turmoil lasts a few days and then Rule of Law returns, you are a mass killer and your last days are rotting in prison.
If the turmoil lasts for months, Pray that you have years worth of food and provisions because the entire infrastructure is gone and without the sophisticated supply chains and conveniences like running water and electricity, its famine, disease and pestilence to a gruesome Medieval Society end.
Since you don't know how long it will last, you can't really raise the black flag. The best you can do is somehow find a way to discourage them. Usually that is done by confronting a mob with your own larger and more threatening mob.
So the answer is to organize your neighborhood. If your neighbors are more like the rioters, basically you are fucked and will likely suffer the consequence for choosing a bad neighborhood to die in.

Pence will be too shaken to dare protest, if he is allowed to assume office at all. On the right, people will scream, keyboards will smoke and perhaps some rounds will be chambered, but no one will step out and be the first to have his or her head blown off by the State.
Any attempt at a massive protest, including a patriot march on DC, will be met with massive military and LEO resistance.
Lulled into complacency by a propagandist MFM and treasonous GOP, the party line will be "now that Trump is gone - and we don't encourage killing, wink wink - aren't things more peaceful? Aren't you glad the bad, divisive, racist orange man is gone?"

I live in a fairly middle sized city, and I don't see any signs of racial discord. Honestly, I think it's better now than it's been in a while, just anecdotally speaking. Being in public, interacting with people, watching other people interact.
People are almost going out of their way to be nice and polite and civil to people of other races, and that goes all the way around the board, between all races.
It's actually kinda nice.

In the South (you know, where a large number of black people live) everyone seems to be making an effort to smile and speak to one another more than usual. And we smile and speak to one another A LOT already.
Charlotte, Raleigh, Atlanta, etc. will continue to have their Professional Grievance Class folks doing their thing to make sure their paychecks continue coming in to fund their line of work, but the normal folks are still normal.

On the other hand, I'm not sure where they would've gotten tin. Bolivia and Peru had tin, and Peru also has copper.
Maybe the Incas would have discovered bronze, had they been left alone long enough.
However, as far as I know, not one Native American society had anything like the proto-enlightenment of the Greek and Roman republics, so I doubt they would have advanced very much.

"Iconoclast" means "Image Breaker". It's a pernicious idea that goes back thousands of years, and seems to pop up every time a great civilization begins to fail. Early in life, I used to wonder at these periods in history when cultures would explode and smash all their works, deliberately destroy all they had achieved. I could never imagine how an entire culture could go so mad, yet it has happened over and over.
and now here we are, stuck living through it all over again. Individually, it's a drive for power, but culturally, it's a suicidal death wish.

I have been offline since Saturday night. Massive T-storm with 2-inch hail (no shit!) hit stately Peon Manor, and several nearby country homes. Major damage. Three busted windows in the house, two of them fairly large sealed units, lots of dents in the metal roof, too. Three or four busted windows in the barn. Rear view mirrors smashed on two Suburbans and a Chevy pickup, and all three have roofs and hoods that look like elephants bounced on them with pogo sticks.
My Internet died as the storm began; I think EMP from a nearby lightning strike fried the surge protector for the wireless antenna. Called in for service on Sunday, still no action. Called again this afternoon; I expect action tomorrow.
The storm was fucking noisy, sounded like they were holding locomotive races in my yard. Combination of hail on the metal roof, and near-continuous thunder from multiple lightning strikes per second, not per minute.
My poor doggie Pogo was outside for the storm, but she must have had sense to get under a vehicle or other shelter; she was wet, but unhurt. The storm did kill a lot of birds, though. I found at least 5 dead birds on the grounds, one a mama blackbird dead in her nest atop smashed eggs. Sad.
Sorry to threadjack. I am on wifi at the local bar. There is beer, so there's that.

Thanks. Insurance companies notified. The two Suburbans have comprehensive insurance, so I may wind up getting a cash settlement, and do the repairs myself. And the house is insured, of course.
I have already replaced the two outside mirrors on the 96 Suburban, because I had a pair of doors off a 95 pickup I parted out. Also have the hood, but wrong color.

Thank you. I wanted to let the Horde know that we are OK, since I was on the Saturday ONT at the time, and then my internet crashed. Never lost power, but the lights were flickering a lot. May have been some spooky power surges on the line. I have a photo of a 2" hailstone I picked up the next morning, and there were many more in that size range.
