EMT 6/7/20

Good Lord, but that krakatoa can be a dick, amiright?

5: Happy Sunday!

1: I don't hate all cops. Not by a long shot. I do hate that almost all cops will circle wagon around their asshole brethren, either out of cowardice, or laziness, or complicity. I will not apologize for my contempt of authority figures who hold "civilians" in contempt as a habit. And I despise that cops are generally immune to any civil or criminal consequence for actions that would have most non-police citizens arrested and financially ruined, innocent or not. That there is a recipe for corruption that has been fully baked and served at this point.

Look, I get it. People want to defend those in their tribe. But a Man will do what is right, even if it implicates his best friend, even if it threatens his livelihood.

If you don't practice an ethical code of honor, you are a tool of corruption. What is the functional difference between a cop who won't give up another corrupt cop, and a street hood who won't rat out another hood?

And for those who missed the point in my rant (and it was a rant so my point was probably easily missed): I'm not asking for someone else to fill in the gaps if the cops become totally irrelevant. I'm warning that if the cops no longer exist in any official sense, we go back to the rope and the tree. Personally, I have plenty of both.

Nobody wants that, right?

2: Yes, the perps have been arraigned in front of the Grand Jury, and are facing hard time, albeit in a justice system whose wheels are in desperate need of greasing. No particular thanks to the detective in charge of my case, nor to the original ADA that was counting down the hours to his retirement. I have strong suspicion one of the perps was a CI, which explains much of the initial reticence.

3: My deepest apologies inRe not giving a shit to conservatives in blue cities. To clarify what was a very off the cuff statement, I don't have any problem if you have weighed the cost/benefit properly, and it makes sense for you to stay. I tire of those that claim they had "no other possible choice" than to stay, and start up the "woe is me, whatever shall I do?" circus. There is always a choice, and you should always own the decision you have made.

4: Even when I post content on an EMT, I couldn't care less if the comments go OT. So have at it Vic, or anyone else. There's much more interesting stuff going on in the world than whatever thoughts I might occasionally post.

No. I read your rant and JJs response, and I agree with you both. I would love, love, love to leave Maskachusetts, but at the moment and for reasons I won't get into, it simply isn't possible.

Here's my dick thought - I'm reading about all these black-owned businesses getting torched and the sob stories about how these were startup businesses and how the victims don't know what they will do to get back on their feet (those who haven't been bailed out by GoFundMe) - and my thoughts are:

Did you vote Democrat? And are you going to vote Democrat again?

If yes, then I don't give a flying fuck what happens to your business. You voted for this shit sandwich, now eat it all up.

17 Your comments yesterday were an example of why this place works - personal and provocative. There is no one here, whether you have good, bad or no experience with police that have not had some of our supposedly core beliefs about that group shaken of late - hell I started getting nervous after Waco, the Patriot Act accelerated things and now, well here we are with a rogue FBI and Minneapolis. The "we have always been at war with Eastasia" doesn't work anymore.

This is understandable, actually. They learned how to text using numeric keypads. When confronted with letters for a phone number, they'll instinctively do what they always do. Which means the letter C becomes 111, etc. Impossible to dial a number doing that.

My family is looking to get out, we're just waiting on a job at this point. And hoping enough people want out of NYC that our township looks like something worth paying for.

As a lot of rich NYCers left the city to avoid the lockdown, they avoided a lot of this rioting. There was none out on Long Beach Island or Belmar. There were none in the Hamptons or out on the Vineyard. An extended family member who spent the quarantine in Florida, should be arriving in NYC this afternoon. Seems there are no good docs in FL and they feel they must be seen in NY for well care. They voted for DeBlasio and I really have no pity for their plight. They, unlike some, could really leave at any time and did so except for this Manhattan doctor lunacy. Manhattan superiority is hard wired in some.

corruption. What is the functional difference between a cop who won't

this summarizes a lot. It is not usually black and white, coverup of murder. It is normally the thumb on the scale, the one with (tribal or family) connections gets the skids greased, the one without a connection or social justice credit has every obstacle in his path.

The one that pays protection money in any form (political donation, direct bribe, kneeling and groveling, the right connected lawyer on staff, etc.) gets a pass. But the normal MAGA hat patriot is an open target of abuse, firing, de-platforming, etc.

"We" the MAGA Patriots need our own internal forces, as powerful and well funded as the military ... the left has theirs, that seems certain. The DeepState has several branches of power, the Resistance Division was busy taking down Flynn and Trump from within the executive branch, even as Trump is president. But they also have such forces in more regional departments ... like the governors ordering shut downs, but exceptions for "protesters" (no not you protesting shut downs). WAR.

148 I live in Greenwich Village between Union Square and Washington Square, in the more or less geographic center of the 'trouble' in NYC. Three weeks ago it was the safest, most livable neighborhood in NY. Apart from Alec Baldwin who lives around the corner, it was a perfectly civil and charming area full of first name greetings on the street, polite neighbors, and well behaved dogs.

Since the surrender, we've had three shootings (one by police), and countless assaults within 3 blocks of my door. The doorman across the street was rewarded with a brick to the head and several stitches when he refused to let the faithful up on his roof to rain bricks down on the policemen on Broadway. One cop was run over by a car on 8th street when he attempted to stop them looting the pharmacy at CVS. The mayor's daughter was arrested 3 blocks from here. Last night was the first one in a week when helicopters weren't overhead 24/7 and there was enough of a gap in the sirens to get a decent night's sleep. There is more broken glass than anyone could hope to tally, and about a half dozen torched and graffitti'd police cars abandoned on University place. The building management now lock us in at 8PM every night, for our own protection. We expect the mayhem to resume on Monday when the curfew ends.

I am one of the exceptionally rare Manhattan residents with a handgun permit. Unless they set fire to our residential building (a non zero probability) our lives and health are at zero risk. I am not now, nor will I ever be a 'victim'. On the contrary. Neither I nor my girlfriend will ever kneel. And NY's 'gun free zone' ends at my threshold.

This has been said before in your comment section but I thought you all might appreciate hearing it from someone being held hostage at NYC's ground zero.

These people who surround us at night are not brave and not bright, but there are a lot of them and their numbers reinforce their faith. Their religious devotion to their provably false ideas is complete and total. They will broach no dissent. Their beliefs are far too tied up in their self image. That cognitive dissonance is the only reason they're able to face the world so they will not surrender it, ever.

If you think the fact that you are far from here will save you, it won't. They will eventually come for you. So if you're going to sacrifice us to the mob, fine. Since I came to NYC I've always known that no one would ever be on my side and if I was going to survive here, I'd have to do it on my own. There will be no cavalry coming for me, I accept that. I made that choice going in and I'll live with the consequences.

But at a minimum, take a lesson from what happens to us. What happens in Greenwich Village today is happening in Odessa TX and Whitefish Montana tomorrow. Because these people would rather die than face reality. And if you are unwilling to pretend to accept their faith, they're going to come for you because they feel like they have to.

Think about this. Would you prefer to wear a 'Make America Great Again' hat through 2020 Manhattan, or a Yarmulke through 1938 Berlin? From where I sit, I'd call it precisely the same sort of experience.

If the money men behind this and the pols supporting and orchestrating live to fight another day it looks grim. Why are dems not punished? In times of chaos, it is easy for people to choose the side that escapes all consequences. The DNC are the real fascists in this battle, and use violence to intimidate, while the likes of Cy Vance says he will not prosecute the violence as it would not be "just".

181 Police, like other professional organizations, are heavily biased toward supporting members because next time it might be you. It's the same with lawyers, doctors, etc. It's not that people don't want standards, etc., it's that the stakes are incredibly high, especially for police and surgeons. A mistake can cost you your career, your reputation, and your fortune. These types of organizations create unwritten codes that if you do not support your brothers/sisters, no one will have your back.

Agreed. I have one quibble:
"Their religious devotion to their provably false ideas is complete and total."
This devotion is the result of indoctrination, starting in pre-school. Their ideas, to them, are *not* "provably false" as they *are* "truth". The problems start and end in the schools, which are the first institution that must be removed from government control if there is to be any recovery.

196 I have always gotten along well with cops, I understand them, they understand me. But I also am well aware of their limitations. I saw Ms. Lindsey Graham the other day whining that he couldn't understand oppression since he had never been pulled over or questioned by any police - good grief, what a pansy. I guess because I've always liked to drive fast and had little regard for other traffic laws (they're more like suggestions, amiright?) I lost count of how many times I've had personal interactions with police at 50 or 60, and that milestone was many years ago.

now, especially as I've gotten a bit older and more respectable, and because I know what they expect and what starts trouble, I've been able to go on my way with nothing but a warning about 90% of the time. Except for someone whose job is to fill a quota, they're out there looking for troublemakers and red flags when they pull someone over, so you gotta make sure you come off as the kind of person they're not interested in.

having said that, my greatest disappointment in the average cop is how little actual law they know, on average. This comes up especially when there's some kind of family dispute or other unpleasantness going on. (I've never caused any of that, but I've been called to the scene at the same time as the cops several times, it's a long story) Almost every time the cops are young and eager, and know about as much actual law as the average millenial who's spent an hour reading Facebook. And from then on, there's one party or the other saying "Well the Cops told me THIS!"" yeah, listen up, they don't know what they're talking about a lot of the time, and that'll get you in even more trouble if you don't wise up.

208 I guess my problem with the LEO narrative is the disproportionate response based on the nature of their overreach/inaction.

Did anybody riot when cops kicked in the door in the middle of the night in Wisconsin Tea Party activists?

Did anybody riot when the cop executed the guy laying prone in a hotel hallway sobbing actual tears because someone called in on him having a BB gun on the balcony?

Did anybody riot when the cop tazed a MidWest granny for not signing her traffic ticket?

But if a cop potentially illegally killed a 5 time prison loser that most recently pointed his gun at a pregnant woman's belly in a home invasion for drugs and dope money, we burn down America, disband the police force, a parade the motherfucker's corpse around like he was Vladimir Lenin.

Yeah, I've got a problem with jackbooted thug cops. But I've also got a problem with woke white college harpies, wanna-be basement dwelling Marxists and pillaging check-drawers from da hood.

211 As far as the effect all this will have on the elections... in 2016 neither I nor my husband voted for Trump (or Hillary). I skipped that part of the ballot, and he didn't vote at all. He quit voting in the late 90s because "all politicians are corrupt, it doesn't matter who you vote for," etc., etc. Meanwhile, at that time I didn't trust Trump not to turn into a RINO a la the less than illustrious IL Gov. Bruce Rauner.

Well, this year both of us will march to the polls over flaming broken glass to vote for Trump. Including my husband who has not voted in more than 20 years, because he's so disgusted with the Left these days. Even though we're in IL and it's probably not going to impact the electoral vote (but who knows).

We didn't suffer all that much from the pandemic (my job wasn't affected) nor has our community experienced any serious unrest to date. Now, multiply us by the number of people who HAVE lost jobs and businesses due to the pandemic, riots or both; the number of people who were denied the chance to see sick or dying loved ones during the pandemic; the number of people who know the difference between protesting and rioting even when the media pretends not to -- I could go on but personally I would think that for every vote the Dems could possibly gain by all this agitation, they will lose AT LEAST 10 votes, maybe more.

As I mentioned yesterday, my father's family stayed thinking it would pass and people would come to see how bad Hitler was. As far as we know only one of them survived. She and her son (and I guess his family) relocated to Israel and would have nothing to do with the family in the US. When hope to escape was gone, we should have somehow saved them , and blames the family in the US almost as much as she blamed those who killed all the others. They stayed behind to protect the life they ultimately lost anyway.

I see a similarity here. People are kneeling and paying extortion money to be allowed to keep what they have and to avoid violence to themselves. The right thing to do would be to squash these leftist fascists, but that might be personally painful, so it won't be done.

My father's aunt believed that we should have prevented her suffering, and this is not an uncommon feeling in Jews who believed that the allies could have "done" more to save those who were ultimately trapped, who did not leave.

These antifa types and their now quiet (and allowed to remain in the shadows) leadership are indeed the new nazis. If blue states placate them, they will grow. And blue states and corporations are doing exactly that. They are snuffing out liberties, defiling the Constitution, and will reap the consequences.

any major ((300,000+ population) will have quite a few. I blame the unions, they keep bad apples around and invite bad apples to stay and shelter under their protection.

Here's something that most laypeople don't want to know - it's a lot more common than you think for a cop to commit perjury on the witness stand. (which is why it doesn't surprise me that the FBI and DOJ have been doing the same thing) In fact, cops get busted for it pretty often, BUT they never get charged, they just get all their cases dismissed. If you're in trouble in any big city, this is why you want to pay a really good local attorney to handle your case - because he'll have the list of the 50 or 60 local cops that have got a real bad name in the local courts (every city has that list) and if the cop that you had trouble with is on that list, he can get your case dismissed without much trouble, because he knows the department will never let him show up in court and testify about anything again. Too publicly embarrassing for them.

and btw, if any cop ever says he's "too busy" or has too many 'other assignments" to make a court appearance, this is what is really going on.

This devotion is the result of indoctrination, starting in pre-school. Their ideas, to them, are *not* "provably false" as they *are* "truth". The problems start and end in the schools, which are the first institution that must be removed from government control if there is to be any recovery.

Saw Jeff Bezos yesterday saying that he refused to take down some "Black Lives Matter" banner at Amazon because "my son doesn't risk his life every time he's pulled over by cops" or something to that effect.

The implication was that his son, a white man, is less at risk from cops than a black man would be.

Sounds like it should be true, based on all the b.s. we've been hearing from the media, but in fact it is not true.

FBI crime statistics show that white suspects are actually more at risk of being killed by cops in the U.S. than black suspects are. So Bezos' white son is actually MORE at risk when he gets pulled over than some black guy's son is.

But we can't cite any actual provable facts in this argument, because facts and evidence are raaaaaacist now.

Your post is very good, a front line report. But there is something that you cannot see, because of where you are. It's not so much regional as it is the split between those who live in cities who have more than about 300,000 persons and those of us who don't.

We live in completely different worlds. In my city of 100,000 the biggest gathering was a prayer meeting downtown, to pray for peace for the nation. There's a few college students doing "protests", but just because they're bored at being locked up so long. None of them go anywhere or do anything. No one within 50 miles of me would ever dream of actually staging a "riot", and outsiders coming in to start something would be quickly stopped, not just by the police but by the people who live here.

So just as we really should look at the reality of your situation, you should look at the reality of ours. You have a Big City disease, and it is NOT coming to Odessa Texas, or Whitefish Montana, or any other of the places like that. Funny thing, coronavirus never really showed up out here either. "Also, almost all police departments are, like, 50% non-white. So no Leftist/Democrat is going to "defund" the police and put all those people out of work (yes, I said "those people").

"Defund" is a bullshit code word for "Replace." Replace with something Fascist Totalitarian under the full control of the Democrat party, which is also fascist totalitarian."

The template is already there in the UK. The central "mission" of our new Internal Community Force will be akin to the UK police who seem to focus primarily on hunting down "online hate" i.e. anything not lockstep with leftist pieties.

There's already been considerable, official (and I believe quite intentional) blurring of the lines between criminal "hate crimes" here and outlawing anti-leftism (called "hate" ) in NY. PSAs put out by NY Gov Cuomo, posted in the NYC subways, implore all riders to "report all incidents of bias" to the authorities via Stasi-snitch "hotline."

Really "report all incidents of bias" and not even a reference to violence, or crime, or any tangible form of "discrimination" --just impermissible "bias."

They truly believe your silence=violence and are gathering forces to enforce it.

The clincher was I told her not to trust anything I had to say, but to show my letter to her personal attorney, and ask him if what I had to say was true. I also advised her to not ask county legal staff that question since they were law enforcement and might have a conflict of interest in advising her.

I also ended the letter with I am not a lawyer, nor am I offering you any legal advice, I am simply pointing out laws and facts, which any citizen may freely do.

Posted by: Heart of Darkness at June 07, 2020 08:03 AM

The irony of your statement is that the local police in Waco did nothing wrong and were friends with David Koresh and the Branch Davidians. In fact, they were the first people they called when the ATF showed up.

It's bad enough when people broad brush every police officer in the 19,495 different cities, towns and villages in the USA as bad based on bad actions from police officers in certain few cities who had nothing to do with police officers in the thousands of other cities. How about we don't smear them also with the bad actions of federal agencies like the ATF and FBI.

278 It came to Richland WA in the TriCities, which is hardly a major city. Couer D'Alene is not a major city either. Remeber that they are transporting people into these areas.

And if you are trying to leave? Courts still pretty much shut down, still difficult to get things notarized, real estate agents still limited in showing places and people reluctant to buy as long as things are locked down. I thnk you are going to see big migrations this year. But I think it will just make things worse as we self segregate.

Posted by: Notsothoreau at June 07, 2020 10:57 AM (Lqy/e)

279 We can all also keep some perspective.

19,495 cities, towns and villages in the USA
Assume 1 police incident in each city per day
Yearly Police Incidents = 7,115,675

In 2015, there were 1,134 deaths at the hands of law enforcement officers, referencing the data in this Guardian article.

https://bit.ly/2Ad6Pu9

1,134 deaths over a SWAG of 7,115,675 incidents is a death rate of 0.02%.

Which means 99.98% of the time, no one is dying at the hands of a police officer during an incident.

Which means there is less chance of death from a police officer than there is of death from COVID-19.

So, yeah, I'm not jumping on the hate-police bandwagon here.

No, not really.
Or rather, yes, but not the way you are thinking.

A Man will see to his Family first and foremost. That means not threatening his livelihood.
Next, a Man considers his extended "family", which begins with his best friend.
This is aggravated when the culture is against it. "Snitches Get Stitches", right? Even if, you know, getting a criminal off the street is the right thing to do. And then the 'Rona hits, and those standards start eating themselves.
It is aggravated more if there is a disdain for the culture and system. Whether it is a cop sneering at civilians and politicians or rioters sneering at law and order makes no difference. Heck, do you think an Objectivist would care about ethics over personal advantage? What am I saying? For an Objectivist, personal advantage is ethics!

"If you don't practice an ethical code of honor, you are a tool of corruption. What is the functional difference between a cop who won't give up another corrupt cop, and a street hood who won't rat out another hood?"

Absolutely zero. But, see the above.
When the ethical code of honor defines a rat as a rat, being a rat becomes being a tool of corruption, while looking the other way becomes a sign of integrity.

"I'm warning that if the cops no longer exist in any official sense, we go back to the rope and the tree. Personally, I have plenty of both.

Nobody wants that, right?"

I know you mean that as a rhetorical question, but . . . seriously?
You really think the Antifa insurrectionists do not want that?
You really think people who were already cheering resistance to the lockdown Stasi are not at least halfway there?
You really think people who default to "better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6" at the drop of an incident are not more than halfway there?

And as it goes, I am not saying your conclusions are wrong. But your expectations of human nature, ethics, and culture are really way off.

290 Good early afternoon All. On last Tuesday's Dennis Miller podcast, Dennis interviewed Kathy Valentine, bassist for The Go Gos. She has a memoir out titled "All I Ever Wanted". The interview was just lovely, exploring music, art, and life. As soon as I was done with the podcast, I jumped on Audible and bought the book. I have about an hour left on my current audiobook, which I discovered here on the SMBT, and then I'll dive into Kathy's book.

This week I read a 2015 Kindle novella by Ben Mezrich titled "Q". the Q stands for quarantine. It is a jaunty little take on Farenheit 451 set in a NYC ravaged by a tyrannical government and a deadly China-bred virus. It is a quick read at 95 pages and well worth its six dollar price. Have a great week everyone!

292 Given that he had a pie pan-sized pool of blood under his head in under 5 seconds, how is he not dead?

Scalp wounds bleed like the proverbial stuck pig. Go look at boxing videos where there's been head butts.
