70 where is Queenscliff?

Posted by: vmom 2020 at June 12, 2020 09:43 AM (WwTwF)

71 Willowed, I apologize for not waiting until 100 posts.

Hi All,

Background: yesterday my company announced mandatory sensitivity training for all employees. When I was told this I declined the training. Almost immediately I was scheduled for a meeting this morning with a member of the executive team, HR, and my division director.

Just getting out of the meeting. BLUF: I still have a job and I'm not going to the training.

This is kind of long so my apologies. Anyway, here we go.

The meeting was in person. I was surprised that there were not one but two executives there: the VP of Legal AND the VP of "inclusion and diversity." My division HR rep was there and my director.

Director says "So you don't want to take the required sensitivity training." I say "I don't think it would be a valuable use of my time, since we have a lot of work to do with this shutdown and all." Then the VP of inclusion pipes in: "We are all very busy but it's important that we all go through this training so we know how to interact with each other in an inclusive and accepting way."

Yeah, that's pretty much verbatim.

So I'm getting a bit miffed but I'm holding it back. And at this point I have to give a big shout out to Alexthechick, because I listened to the 21 May podcast last night and part of it put me in the right frame of mind. I did get a little ranty but this is the flavor of it.

I looked Legal right in the eye and said "In my fifteen years with this organization, have there ever been any complaints or accusations about my not acting in an 'inclusive and accepting way?'" She said "no, no complaints at all." I said "Requiring me to go through training is the company saying that I have a problem in this area."

VP of inclusion is looking a little shell shocked right now. Someone is questioning the validity of sensitivity training. Unlikely this has happened to her before.

I go on. "The training is undoubtedly aimed toward, frankly, getting me to be less racist. That's the thing we're all dancing around here. Well I have never had any kind of issue in that area, and in fact I find it extremely insulting to even SUGGEST I need any kind of training to treat people fairly and on their work product instead of their skin suits."

VP of inclusion says "well, this isn't about you, it's about making sure we all have a common understanding of racial and cultural issues that have recently been brought to light with the recent events."

So I can't help myself. I say "Does that mean you think we are a racist company?"

She looks at me. I look back. Serious pregnant pause. She then says "I think there is some work we should do in that area."

And I can't help myself, I say "I agree. For instance, in this very room. We have the two executives here who are African American women (the VP of inclusion and VP of Legal), an Asian woman (HR), and the director of the division (Hispanic man). On the entire executive team there is only one white man, and he is retiring at the end of the year. Further, looking at the hires and promotions over the past six months it appears white men are very underrepresented." Then I really channel Alexthechick and I quote her: "You need to tell me if this training is a condition of my employment. But before you answer, consider that our CEO has a growth strategy that relies on revenue. My work portfolio accounts for 27% of total company revenue and is our single largest portfolio. I've never had a complaint about the way I treat people in my section. But if this is a condition of my employment then I'm sure my talents would be appreciated elsewhere."

A bit of silence, then Legal says "As things are right now, we will not require you to attend the training. I would encourage you to do so, but it is ultimately your choice. WitchDoktor, if you aren't there next week people will wonder. What do you suggest?" I say "We're all working remotely, no one will care or even notice." So my Director says "you can have the day off if you want, it won't go against your PTO balance." And that was that. On the way out the door, my Director walks with me a bit and says, jokingly "You are SUCH an asshole!"

So in a nutshell, I am still employed, I have a free day off, and I'm not going to stupid sensitivity training.

But that it is even possible, any part of it, is sickening and infuriating. Hard to believe the society can ever be rescued from the racist-authoritarian cancer that now dominates it.

No harm from the judge appointing himself prosecutorial power to bring charges and a new legal team to continue a farcical case that's been dropped by the actual prosecutors? The legal bills alone to a defendant would constitute harm.

137 I ike the image and the way Roberts expresses it. A very effective painting. But it's a bit sad with the solitary boat, left high and dry with faded paint and weathered wood. It seems a loss. The two isolated figures, obviously with no connection to a work boat, deepen the sense of sadness. I also like the Impressionistic way the foliage and background are done. It makes the figure of the boat stand out more starkly, which focuses the viewer's attention.

This is the kind of painting that makes me imagine story lines. Why has a well built craft been allowed to fade? Did the woman on the boat enjoy sailing on it when she was younger? Fun to speculate.

Posted by: JTB at June 12, 2020 09:58 AM (7EjX1)

138 I have to wonder what or who the white-and-black figure in the upper right is. Even embiggened, it looks a little like somebody in a rooster suit.

Clearly, too, that boat has been beached a while. It would take some work to make it seaworthy again.

199 This morning Tommy Robinson put out a new video which was insta-censored by YouTube. I'd say it's one of the best yet concerning the lie of Black Lives Matter and the riots going on in the US, as well as in England. I consider it a must-watch. Youtube is worthless, so here's a link to his own news website with the full video. It's a little over an hour, but it's well-produced and direct. Here: https://www.tr.news/all-lives-matter/ Link also in name.

I should strap my own elderly Liberal Catholic mother down and force her to watch it. It refutes every lie she fervently believes about the latest goings-on. Every lie she would sadly shake her head and look at me like I was a poor, poor retarded child who didn't know any better, for disputing. Every lie that the local news affiliates tell, as their newscorp masters dictate.

Doubting something like "Hands up don't shoot" is simply unthinkable for people so steeped in Media lies. Seeing Sheriff David Clarke refute that would shock her... I doubt she's ever seen him say a single word about it. Just go watch, and spread it around. Ok, I'm done.

As you were.

268 97 Listening to the oral arguments in Sullivan

I'm telling you all, the appellate court is going to punt, they're going to buy the argument that, until the judge rules on the motion, there's no harm.

They're going to pretend this lie that there is some other possible outcome other than dismissal.
Posted by: RoyalOil at June 12, 2020 09:50 AM (aO8Gd)

Wait till the actual ruling, at least. If you read the screed put out by Gleeson on Wednesday, you know all of the arguments Sullivan's side was going to make. His main argument now is that the Mandamus is too early, since he hasn't ruled. Sidney Powell says that the Mandamus is necessary, because Sullivan's whole game is to drag this out as long as possible and never rule. That's what the Appeals Court has to decide.

and yeah, Flynn fucked up by pleading guilty in the beginning. Sure, he had reasons, but it was a fuckup.

So to answer one question I saw. If they decide to fire me for cause because of all this...BFD. Fifteen years in a DoD space with clearances and such...I would be unemployed for maybe a week before I show up at a competitor.

On the other hand, while I am certainly expendable, the real question is if the company wants to spend the time and effort trying to find a replacement for me. Relationships I've built with customers and the internal company team supporting them are not easily replaced.

Ball is in their court, sure, but I'm not too worried. The VP of inclusion doesn't have a lot of support or clout, I think.

If we were serious, which we aren't, about what is wrong with our justice system in this country, we'd be looking at the Prosecutorial Industrial Complex, and how they strong-arm people at all levels into taking pleas for things they didn't do.

If you dangle freedom in front of someone, and let them know you can take it away from them at a whim, it almost looks like they're doing you a favor when they offer you a "slap on the wrist" plea.

It's bullshit. It's bullshit when it happens in high profile cases like this, and it's bullshit when they do it to stupid ignorant fools with penny ante cases in every single jurisdiction all over this country.

Black people who think they cops are racist, seem to have no idea it's the prosecutors who are out to enslave them... chaining them to felony charges sometimes for the rest of their lives.

Cardboard to kill sod is legit.

And then you leave it *for a year* or more to prepare the site for planting.

564 Question for reloaders;
Ever notice some serious discrepancies in various reloading manuals?
Case in point: I am working up loads for my 7.62 X 54R.
In my oldest Sierra manual a max load of IMR 3031 is 44.4 grains with 150 grain bullet. 2700 fps.
I have another manual that lists the max load at 50 grains with this bullet with a MV of 3000 fps.
The Sierra load seems quite mild. I doubt the 2700 fps.
I want a MV of 2700 with a 20" barrel.
I suppose I will start using my chronograph and the max Sierra load and start loading up and checking for signs of excessive pressure until I get the 2700 fps.
Any thoughts?
