Saturday Morning Coffee Break

61320coffe.jpg

Pot is looking half empty.........

***

What time is it? Coffee, tea or me?

The rules? Opine away or bloviate. Whatever trips your trigger. Just remember no running with sharp objects, don't pull the 'ettes hair and be nice to one another.

Remember, don't let the bastards or mosquitoes grind you down.

Have a great weekend!!

25 Somewhere in this great country is a song lyricist that could write parody lyrics to the tune of the Village People song YMCA, but using the letters C H A Z.

Young man! I say Young man!...Why don't you go the C! H! A! Z!You gonna love it in the C! H! A! Z!
I freely cast this idea into the internet for some creative person to use and perhaps make into a music video.

No BS, I'd forgotten Maxim still existed when Insty started posting that link. I read-- well, 'read', there's very little there anymore-- a couple of issues offshore a while back. They were never what you'd call an actual informative pub but they did occasionally fuck up and commit actual journalism-- I remember an article they ran in the early to mid aughts about the Beslan school attack in Russia that was actually informative. It's now a thin, all gloss wannabe GQ, pushing the same All Men's Fashion Is Now Urban Gay shit.

Hmm.

I just saw that they're about to release "Soldier Blue" on blu-ray.

It's another one of those anti-westerns from the 70's using using US Calvary and Indians as yet another Vietnam allegory.

On the upside, about the only thing I remember from seeing it years ago is that-

you get to see young Candice Bergen's nekkid butt.

So, if that gets your motor running....there you go.

119 Runner, they found rot on one window and decided the entire house needed new windows. House already needs a new roof which they were aware of and I had priced the house taking that into consideration. If the house had new windows and a new roof, would be considerably more expensive, I explained but to no avail.
Must have good karma though because second round had multiple offers and got over full price and roof excluded as home inspection consideration.
I think they will stick because they are "greenies" and I have a gorgeous very large lot in the middle of suburbia and they want to have gardens and fruit trees and chickens(haha).

Proud of my 80 year old mom. Her 6 month old Keurig coffee maker went on the fritz. She looked on the internet and tried to troubleshoot with no success. She found the number to Keurig and called them and ended up talking them into sending her a replacement.

Rather than make a second cup, though, I'm likely heading down to our nearby city, where the local roaster - Odd Duck - makes an awesome mocha before facing down grocery shopping.

Which is damned well going to be done maskless. Because I'm officially over this idiocy, and not going to wear gris-gris just to make the superstitious feel better.

We've been cleaning and rearranging the garage for about 2 weeks now. Hung one of those overhead racks that can hold 500lbs. We can get 2 of 3 cars in and the third stall is the workshop area. A blower would have been great for sweeping all the dust, leaves, etc. out of there.

261 "I had to start wearing a mask at work this week. I was pissed and I hate it. I conveniently "forget" most of the time."

I live north of Spokane. I was feeling so bad for employees that are now being forced to wear masks. But when I got my teeth cleaned a couple days ago, some of the people working there were wearing their masks on their chins. I think this will be happening a lot. It made me feel better.

BTW I have gone to Costco twice since the madatory masking rule. I tie a bandana around my neck to pacify the authorities but I never pulled it up over my face either time.

The masking rule is not being enforced by Costco employees. This tells me Costco officials are aware that unmasked shoppers pose no risk and they have some other reason for the rule. So I won't comply.

On my second shopping expedition, I was accosted by a fellow shopper for being unmasked. I just kept walking. I didn't want to incite a feeding frenzy by engaging her. Karen can inform on me if she wants to.

I was sad that I was the only noncompliant person in the entire store.

Posted by: Guy Smiley at June 13, 2020 10:42 AM

Yep, I mentioned this yesterday. Cases are only meaningful if a high percentage of them are leading to hospitalizations. Because despite what the lunatics claim, the purpose of lockdown orders is not to prevent cases or deaths, but to prevent the overwhelming of hospitals.

In other words, the only data a state needs is

--- how many hospital beds do we have
--- how many hospital beds are currently being used
--- what percentage of cases have been resulting in hospitalizations

If a state has 500 ICU beds and 200 hospitalizations, then they have 300 beds available.

If the percentage of hospitalizations per 100 cases is 1%, that means you'll need 1 bed per every new 100 cases.

Of course, I just looked at the Michigan coronavirus website and I'll be damned if I can only find data on cases and deaths. Nothing about hospitalizations. Funny that, since hospitalization data is THE data point to be tracking to justify lockdown.

But that has been thrown out the window for the new justification: "Stay home, save lives".

I tried a small neighborhood barber too, but no dice. My county (Larimer, CO) still has a mandatory mask rule in place but with the warmer weather - it's hitting 90 or close to now every day and will all summer - absolutely no one is wearing one unless they have to, to walk in a store or salon. The big chains are enforcing it, so if you go in a Safeway or Home Depot or something you have to do the mask theater. I notice more and more kids in the supermarket not wearing them, and they let it go.

351 I tried a small neighborhood barber too, but no dice.

Every flu season we have between 20 and 45 million cases. Let's just hope we don't start naming the virus each season instead of just calling it the flu. Naming something seems to make it more serious.

Posted by: Kilroy wasn't here at June 13, 2020 10:46 AM

Not enough time was spent hammering home the fact that this is a strain of the same virus that Obama did nothing about in 2009, SARS-CoV (H1N1). We did none of this "social distancing" or mask nonsense back then and... less people died.

Also, not enough time has been spent pointing out the fact that a very high percentage of deaths were a direct result of Governor's orders to send patients to nursing homes. After we knew that was a bad idea from stories coming out of Italy and our own Seattle, WA nursing homes early in FEB-MAR.

One could say that the high death count from SARS-CoV-2 is directly because of the lockdown actions. You take away the people murdered in nursing homes due to the Governor's orders and the case, hospitalization and death counts are no higher than a bad flu season.

369 Our company managed to struggle through and we're coming out on the other side mostly unscathed. Being in the import/export biz I was tres worried. But upper management did a fine job of steering us through.

All employees with multiple-income households (spuse working at an essential job) were asked to take furlough so that those who depended on their paycheck could work. They were promised they would be made whole when they returned. All have come back and been made whole.

All bonuses, normally paid at the end of the 1st quarter, were cancelled...but...now we are geting them, late and in installments to spread out the hit, but hey, that's a lot of money I thought I'd never see.

And we were already a work-at-home company so we were already ready. All told, I give my company an A+ for the way they got us through. At the worst point, business was down 25%, but we're now almost back to normal.
