As I would not be a slave, so I would not be a master. This expresses my idea of democracy. Whatever differs from this, to the extent of the difference, is no democracy

Speaking of Ansel Adams, it is really tough to find high quality reproductions on the internet. His heirs seem to be quite aggressive in policing unauthorized stuff. Regardless, Adams was able to capture what for me was the essence of natural California, and whenever I see his work I am reminded of how spectacular California is...at least the physical part.
******

This always makes me chuckle.

******

It's vital in a free society to mock the excesses of the nags and the naysayers and the Neo-puritans among us. And the Wuhan Flu dempanic is ripe for pointing and laughing and maybe pocking with sharp sticks. Corona Mask is a particularly delicious skewering.

Some of those security features would be fun in the middle of an Antifa/BLM riot.

On one of those circuitous trips through the intertubes, via Sippican Cottege, I discovered this place. I am not sure why potato farming is fascinating, but it is!

Taters

Does that stuff look easy? No, it does not.

******

It doesn't get much better than this.

Yeah, I probably used this before, but still, it's great music. Even Garrett wearing his fur-lined Crocs and a messenger bag jauntily placed over one shoulder would like this.

***

Just imagine Springsteen without the pomposity and bombast.

***

Justin Johnson.

Who?

No idea, but it's nice to listen to!

***

This brings me back to my teen-aged years, but in a good way!

******

They are, or at least used to be hard-core champagne socialists, and part of me wants to ignore them. But damn...I can't help it...I like the music.

******

Because of the recent unpleasantness I have joined the ANJRPC (Association of NJ Rifle and Pistol Clubs), and one of the perks is access to their very nice range up in the hills of Northern NJ. I went for the first time a few days ago with a local Moron...Scuba Dude, whose NYC gun travails have been documented in the Gun Thread. He brought along his very, very nice Savage 110. It's a soft shooter and looks to be very accurate.

Anyway, I was reminded again how nice most gun people are (Scuba Dude included). I had some problems with a new upper (I know very little about the AR platform), and the guy next to me took a lot of time out of his shooting to help me out. And the guy next to us on the pistol range was friendly and fun. And the range manager was personable and professional. That stuff isn't coincidence...it happens pretty much every time I go shooting anywhere.

So what is it about guns and the people who like them?

48 If you ever have the chance to visit the Ansel Adams Gallery, or if a museum or such near you has a display thereof.

Do NOT fail to make it a necessary pilgrimage.

There are not words to describe the literal luminosity of what are his prints, that no reproduction can convey.

Breath. Taking.

What's also "breathtaking"?

Humping a large-format view camera and it's related gear, all through the Western Mountains just to be in the right place, at the right time, in the right light, to capture those images.

I can vividly remember that Dancing in the Dark video, with the up and coming starlet Courtney Cox being Bruce's subject of concentration.

94 I see a CNN crew got attacked in Atlanta. Couldn't happen to a better group of douchebags.

The very left-wing mayor of Olympia, Washington had her house vandalized by Antifa Friday night.

The mayor whined:

"I'm really trying to process this," she told The Olympian over the phone Saturday. "It's like domestic terrorism. It's unfair."

"It hurts when you're giving so much to your community," she said.

Hey, it's mere property damage.

Mayor Selby said she's facing three crises at once: COVID-19, homelessness, and 400 years of racial injustice. Selby, who has three years left in her term, said "I'm no quitter. I will continue to try and move this community forward."

Olympia is two percent black, so the virtue signaling is strong with this one.

So, all they can do is foul their own nest.

Back in the early '80s, I was working for our Navy as a civilian printer in Newport, RI, the home of the Naval War College mentioned above. Beautiful area this time of year. Two bits of tid follow.

One was about a female LCDR. We printed her naval history as part of a Change of Command program. She had been in the Navy for 12 years. For 10 of those years she worked at various Newport commands. The other two years, she served in the Navy Public Affairs Office on Fifth Avenue in the former New York City. Oh, and her "nom de guerre" was "Legs".

I got to see the last America's Cup race that the USofA won to go ahead 3-1 in the series. America lost the next three races and the Cup. The bonus part was see the race from the Coast Guard's sailing ship Eagle.

171 > Speaking of Antifa I just saw a recent photo of Justin Trudeau. There's no way he isn't an active member. His face screams leftwing douchebag.

This is strong evidence for cuckery being environmental, rather than genetic.

It's widely accepted that Pierre was cucked repeatedly by Maggie (in the classical sense of "cucked"), and commonly speculated that Justin is not his biological child (since Justin looks nothing at all like Pierre). So Justin's biological father was a bull (possibly even Fidel Castro), and yet, Justin is himself a cuck.

Ergo: environmental, not genetic.

I suppose even SRV can ask (if he could) "Why am I loved only when I'm gone?" (h/t, Nightwish)

Albums are like books to me, I hate to part with either. Because.

As for keeping the Quo, there's no accounting for bad taste. I can't stand parting with any album, even the dogs (Free 'Live', e.g.; good band, really shitty live performance/recording). But I couldn't get rid of that crappy, sappy 'Born To Run' fast enough.

One of the engineers that I worked with at Nasa - who was also into photography- knocked on his door one time. Ansel welcomed him in and showed him his enlarger, confiding that its custom design is what allowed him to produce prints no one else could make. Instead of having a single enlarging light bulb he had an array of individually controlled bulbs that allowed him to control the lighting of different parts of the negative he was printing - which a conventional enlarger simply could not do.

BOOM!

1:45: had a weird dream. Do I need to pee? Eh. I'll go, just to make sure.

*lying awake for an hour or so, worrying about the weeds over by the shed*

3:14: had a weird dream. Do I need to pee? Nope. I'm good.

*lying wake for an hour or so, wondering how I can resolve the issue of the public utility easement in the ALTA survey of Plethora Acres that I can't figure out*

4:42: had a weird dream. Pee? Nope. Still good.

*lying awake for an hour or so wondering why the stupid cat keeps trying to escape*

6:13: why is my arm numb? Did I have a stroke? Do I have to pee? Probably. Oh, my arm is okay. never mind.

And this is an uncomfortable glimpse into my sleep cycle.

Yer welcome.

327 > She said she had a vertigo thing a couple of years ago, related to something about crystallization in the ear.

There are indeed tiny crystalline objects in your ear called otoliths that form part of your balancing system. They're sort of like little kidney stones.

When you head moves, these little rocks move in their fluid bath and bash against tiny hairs, and that's how your brain decides how fast and in which direction your head is moving.

Normally all is fine, but the things can get jammed up in various ways, causing your brain to think that your head is moving even when it isn't. When the signals from this system conflict with the signals from other systems (such as what you're seeing with your eyes, or the sensations from other parts of your body), that's what causes you to get dizzy and maybe even throw up.

There are some home manipulations you can perform to get those little bastards back where they should be, and those often work. There are a number of YouTube videos on that.

Oh, and why do people throw up when they experience motion sickness?

Because when you experience sensory alterations in the natural environment, it's often because you've eaten something poisonous, and your body takes the safest route: getting rid of anything in the stomach.

378 Take your most fully optioned, top of the line Canon, Nikon, Sony or any other DSLR.

Go to the same perch from which Adams took the picture at the top of tonight's ONT.

Now, tell me which basic information you're going to feed to the camera, so that it's "automatic" functions can even begin to produce as sublime an image as we see, even in a horribly crippled JPG format?

At a minimum, you're going to have to choose the right focal length lens or zoom setting.

The ISO you decide on will give the camera a baseline in selecting it's "automatic" exposure.

But what if you need a "non-standard" combination of ISO, f/stop and shutter speed?

Might it be advantageous if you know how to work the settings, so as to "bracket" a range of exposures?

And on and on and on.

Frankly, for an experienced photographer, going fully manual is often times faster than feeding changes into the "automatic" systems.

Possibly. I'm on pretty clear record as not expecting much from Barr. I expect a shitload from Trump and I think he has a lot to reveal as the election heats up. But I don't trust Barr worth a shit, although he's done some good here and there, and this is one case where I will be ecstatic to be wrong.

I think the Left have a new subject lined up. I expect it to be a totally different scale. I think it's going to be more personal about Trump. Or maybe a magic "Trump supporter" is going to do some kind of {wink wink} "attack". I dunno. Remember the mail fake bomber guy that appeared right before the 2018 election?

So far they've been pretty cagey about making it too obvious that everything that is going on is about the election. I don't expect that to last, either. They have too much hubris.

I just think good photography is almost - not quite - witchcraft. You have to have the eye for it, the feel for it, for the subject, the setting, everything.

Going "automatic" and having a machine do the thinking for you may sound good but for the Ansel Adamses of the world, no way. Those guys and gals are on another level so they are going to go manual and make things happen that way. And nine times out of ten their photography will be great.

(Me? I go automatic because I know my limitations and know I suck with a camera anyway. Though I can get lucky sometimes.)

392 one of the interesting things in the chaz neighbor interview is him describing the "protesters" paramilitary tactics - it was clear to him that they were organized and prepared -

they had umbrellas in front and above to shield them from police view and from tear gas

they had oven mitts to lob back the smoke grenades

when they were ready to rush the police they broke off at the same time into separate groups (squads) and headed for predetermined dumpsters, dragged them in place, reached into their backpas to lob "I don't know what" at the cops

Steel-tine hard garden rakes. Not "leaf" rakes.

An intrepid sort could rip away an umbrella in a flash, just so long as one tooth of that rake snagged a rib on the bumbershoot.

My other suggestion for defeating an antifa umbrella involves a 12 ga riot gun loaded with #4 Buck.

But then, I'm a giver that way.

During the Korean War, captured American soldiers found themselves in POW camps run by Chinese Communists. The Chinese treated captives quite differently than their allies, the North Koreans, who favored savagery and harsh punishment to gain compliance
The Red Chinese engaged in what they called “lenient policy,†which was a sophisticated psychological assault on their captives. After the war, American psychologists questioned the returning prisoners intensively, because of the unsettling success of the Chinese program
The Chinese were very effective in getting Americans to inform on one another, in contrast to the behavior of American POWs in WWII. For this reason, escape plans were quickly uncovered and escape attempts themselves were rarely successful.
When an escape did occur, the Chinese usually recovered the man easily by offering a mere bag of rice to anyone turning him in. In fact, nearly all American prisoners in the Chinese camps are said to have collaborated with the enemy in one form or another.
How did the Chinese get compliance from the American POWS? These men were trained to provide only name, rank, serial number. Short of torture, how could the captors hope to get such men to give military information, turn in fellow prisoners, or publicly denounce their country?
The Chinese answer was to start small and build. Prisoners were asked to make statements so mildly anti-American or pro-Communist as to seem inconsequential "The United States is not perfect." "In a Communist country, unemployment is not a problem."
Once they complied with these minor requests, the men were pushed to submit to more substantive ones. A man who had agreed that the United States is not perfect might be asked provide examples. He might then be asked to make a list of "problems with America" and sign his name
Later, he might be asked to read his list in a discussion group with other prisoners. “After all, it’s what you really believe, isn’t it?†Still later he might be asked to write an essay expanding on his list and discussing these problems in greater detail
The Chinese might then use his name and his essay in an anti-American radio broadcast beamed not only to the entire camp, but to other POW camps in North Korea, as well as to American forces in South Korea.
Suddenly he would find himself a "collaborator." Aware that he had written the essay without any threats or coercion, a man would change his image of himself to be consistent with the deed and with the new collaborator label, resulting in more extensive acts of collaboration
The majority collaborated by doing things which seemed trivial to them but which the Chinese were able to turn to their own advantage. This was particularly effective in eliciting confessions, self-criticism, and information during interrogation.
The majority of the men believed the Chinese story that the United States had used germ warfare, and many felt that their own forces had been the initial aggressors in starting the war. Similar inroads had been made in the political attitudes of the men:
Many expressed antipathy toward the Chinese Communists but at the same time praised them for "the fine job they have done in China." Others stated that "although communism won’t work in America, I think it’s a good thing for Asia."
Our best evidence of another man's true feelings and beliefs is their behavior, not their words. What the Chinese knew is that a man uses this same evidence to know what he himself is like. He observes his behavior to understand his own beliefs, values, and attitudes
Writing was one type of confirming action that the Chinese urged incessantly upon their prisoners. It was never enough to listen quietly or even to agree verbally; they were always pushed to write it down as well. Psychologist Edgar Schein describes this tactic:
A further technique was to have the man write out the question and then the [pro-Communist] answer. If he refused to write it voluntarily, he was asked to copy it from the notebooks, which must have seemed like a harmless enough concession. But, oh, those "harmless" concessions.
Seemingly trifling commitments can lead to extraordinary further behavior. A written declaration is physical evidence of your commitment, leaving no opportunity to forget or to deny what you have done. The irrevocably documented act drives you to make your self___ consistent
We tend to think that a statement reflects the true attitude of the person who made it, even if we know the person did not freely choose to make it. Unless there is strong evidence to the contrary, observers automatically assume that someone who makes a statement means it
Think of the double-barreled effects on the self___ of a prisoner who wrote a pro-Chinese or anti-American statement. Not only was it a lasting personal reminder of his action, it was also likely to persuade those around him that the statement reflected his actual beliefs.
A similar technique involved political essay contests that were regularly held in camp. The prizes for winning were invariably small--a few cigarettes or a bit of fruit--but were sufficiently scarce that they generated interest from the men
Usually the winning essays took a pro-Communist stand, but not always. Most prisoners would not want to enter a contest that required writing a Communist tract. So the prize was sometimes given to essays that supported the USA but made small concessions to the Chinese view
The men participated voluntarily in the contests because they saw that they could win with an essay favorable to their own country. But perhaps without realizing it, they began to shade their essays a bit toward communism in order to have a better chance of winning.
The Chinese wanted as many Americans as possible to enter these contests so that, in the process, they might write things favorable to the Communist view. If, however, the idea was to attract large numbers of entrants, why were the prizes so small?
They chose to employ the smaller rewards because they wanted the men to own what they had done. No excuses, no ways out were allowed. A prisoner who salted his political essay with a few anti-American comments could not be permitted to shrug it off as motivated by a big reward.
It was not enough to wring commitments out of their men; those men had to be made to take inner responsibility for their actions. We accept inner responsibility for a behavior when we think we have chosen to perform it in the absence of strong outside pressures
The big things to understand here are
1) when you see yourself doing something, you change your self___ to include "I am a person who does that thing"
2) when you think others see you a certain way, the same.
3) you will act in ways that are consistent with your self___
So in light of that, please consider how being a user of Social Media, especially real-name social media, is structurally identical to being a prisoner in a Chinese POW camp during the Korean war.
When you endorse a cause on social media, the rewards are worthless. Tiny rewards mean that you will not perceive your statements as being coerced, you will own them. And yet, the public eye puts pressure on you to say things that are pro-social in a very particular way
Most people want to appear compassionate. A political slogan, a bleeding heart story, these things that you spread virally, they change your self___. And they leave you with evidence, public evidence, that you are the kind of person who speaks out about "systemic oppression"
Social media created the feedback loop that drove everyone mad with social justice. Just like in the Chinese camp, the subtle but constant pressure to make cheap moralistic statements resulted in mass conversions. I believe this is the true cause of the "great awokening"

Springsteen's early music captured life of the average guy. He understood and could convey being young and trying to make your way in a hard world.

He lost me when I went to a concert in Oakland with tickets that cost about $150 each and we're not great. Bush 2 was president so I'm guessing 2003 ish. Patriot Act had passed. He stood up in front of 18,000 people that paid a lot of money to hear his music and said his civil rights and freedom to speak were being taken away.

Right. Self absorbed. Perhaps.

Then Obama gets elected. Patriot Act gets renewed and made even more obtrusive.

436 GROWING TATERS WITH THE GRANDKIDS ... During one winter, I sewed 4-foot tall bags from garden weed barrier fabric, leaving one small opening in the bottom sections (these lasted many years BTW). I also bought a variety of supermarket potatoes -- including purple fingerlings -- for the grandkids to "chit" in our basement. Twas so cute every time they arrived at our house, the first thing they did was check the potato "eyes" to see if they had started sprouting.

Once the weather became suitable -- around Saint Patrick Day in our area -- the grandkids could plant. First step was to roll down the top edges of the mesh bags, reducing the height of each bag from 4 feet down to 6 inches. After placing some light cardboard over the opening in the bottom of each bag (to hold soil back temporarily), the kids next scooped in 3 inches of garden soil mixed with a little compost, leveled it out with their hands, then gently placed 3 potato chunks (by now fully sprouted) on top of the soil, equally spaced in a triangle. The final planting step was to give each bag a light dusting of peat moss (primarily to anchor the potato chunks).

The bags remained on the patio initially, so I could check which potato chunks were doing well and secretly replace any which had failed. Eventually, though, the grandkids moved the bags to a sunnier section of our yard, and lifted them onto a "watering" platform I had set up -- two strips of railroad ties with a long closed-ended rain gutter wedged in between. During hot dry spells in June/July, any plant roots which had grown through the small bag bottom opening could easily get water from the rain gutter.

Within a month, the sprouted potato eyes became tender stems with green leaves. The grandkids checked their plants every visit, unrolled the top edges of the bags as the leaf stems grew taller, and continuously filled the bags to the top with fall leaves. Somewhere around 80-90 days, flowers would appear on the plants; then, once the flowers faded, it was time to harvest. The kids spread a tarp on the lawn then took turns dumping out their individual bags.

Most of the potatoes were on the small size, but it didn't seem to diminish their enthusiasm at the time -- "I grew the most!", "I grew the biggest!", "Mine were the prettiest!", "Mine will taste the best when they are cooked!" -- and this grandma will be forever grateful for these memories.

Ambien?

When I was in the Cardiac Care Unit 9 years ago, I specifically remember the Doc on the ward my first night, when I requested something to help me sleep, stating to the unit nurses she didn't ever prescribe any patients with Ambien. I don't remember what they gave me that first night, maybe valium, but it wasn't Ambien.

It is a waxing gibbous moon, about three days away from being a full moon and the shot was taken very near the time of sunset.

It is something that could be shot on a smart device's camera these days. Attaining the same level of artistry is another question.

Artistry is really the thing in question. Adams was great for his ability to be able to say 'That would make a good photo' when observing the world. Inspiration. Inspiritus. Breath of Spirit. The Divine Breath.

There is a modern artist who works in marble (Italian, go figure.) His technique in the medium and finishing is fantastic. But all of his stuff is cold and sterile. It does absolutely nothing for me.

Like Orson Welles for directing and shot framing. Michelangelo is pretty much every artistic medium he tried his hand at. Any of a handful of others (and the fact that it is just a few is telling.) Some people are just 'better' at things. It is not denigrating to the people who can't, but it does give the lie to a lot of communist theory.

Long as your smart device can recreate an early '40s black & white emulsion, grain and saturation range, and your device has the ability to recreate an image at f/64 and a 1 second-ish shutter speed, then sure, have at it.

Let's not forget the 4"x5" sensor size.

Modern digital sensors are beating the hell out of the 35mm format, and giving medium format film a run for it's money.

But the 4"x5" and larger sheet film sizes?

Still, not even close.

You go ahead and count the bazillions of silver halide crystals in a sheet film format. I'll wait here a few millennium into you get it all tallied up.

Key to the Zone System, was knowing EXACTLY how your camera negative film emulsion would work as to rendering absolute blacks to absolute whites.

And then knowing, before you ever pressed the shutter, which processing chemical would work with that camera negative film, as to render that full range from blacks to whites. Or deciding on another developing chemical to soften the borders between those end-to-end constants. Or, not.

Oh, and then to decide as to which photographic print PAPER to bring up the image. Agfa? Kodak? Ilford? And every paper was available in various contrast grades, with #2 as the "standard". Boy howdy, would each different paper render a wholly different view of the negative, and every different contrast number (1 through 5), do the same!

Confused yet?

Let's decide as to which enlarger (diffusion or condenser), enlarger lens, f/stop basic time and per Adams, massive degrees of dodging, burning and other image manipulation.

Ansel Adams work only STARTED when he pressed the shutter on his tripod mounted view camera.

Everything before that was brute labor.

Everything after that, was the art of a master artist *AND* technician. (take that, you fucking anti technician anti photography art snobs)

I "learned" the Zone System. And passed the test on it with Kodak Plus X Pan, ASA 125 film, and hell, I forget now the rest.

It involved Dektol, and other Kodak products.

Put me in front of a Kodak inventory of stuff, and I'll I.D. it all. But I'm all Joe Biden as to the immediate recall thereof.

465 The POW thing is fascinating.

I have observed for quite some time that there are massive psy ops - based on billions if not trillions of dollars worth of research - being done on us. ALL of us. Anyone who is exposed to the news or anything cultural is getting a taste of it. You can't avoid it.

Even me, and I can *see* the shit they are doing - how fake it is - how manipulative it is - I am still getting a dose of it. Any day I feel angry, resentful etc. That's my taste. That's the hamster they've released inside my brain. They say jump, the hamster says how high. The only thing any of us can effectively do is tune out.

But they are making it that much harder to do that. It's now at work, it's on our web pages, it's on TV commercials, it's on the shows, it's in our sports. It's not an accident, nor was it pure willpower and social control that got us here. It has been *planned*. They picked soft targets and hard targets and went after all of them strategically.

The amount of fake people they have posting shit on the internet - along with the Tier 2 people - the brainwashed sheep who repeat everything anyway - would probably blow your mind. I don't mean trolls although they count. I mean people in threads (mostly elsewhere) that repeat the same innocuous seeming shit. I've noticed a big movement in these fake voices this last month to all deliver this message: "the government can't plan anything, they are too incompetent".

My ass.

On our side, maybe. But there is no reason for the *Left* to be saying this all over Lefty sites. It's never been part of their foundation. It hurts all their other arguments. It's not even something they believe. There's only one reason to be drilling that. And it's because the government has been *caught* secretively planning all sorts of devious shit and they want to label you a conspiracy theorist for having the temerity to see it. This goes right back to what I started with. It's all psy ops. They are in every lively forum on the internet, disrupting, guiding, and misinforming. I've seen it. It has surprised me but they are there.

The "cultural shift" we are currently experiencing is ***fake***. We had a genuine cultural shift between 2010 and 2016. It was ignored and denied. That shift has continued. The one you are watching now doesn't have to be "explained" by people's susceptibility to social media. It is theater. It is a big broadway show designed to convince "everyone else" that there is some monumental shift to the Left and away from individual freedom, patriotism and, just in time for the election, Donald Trump. It won't change the election results. But don't be fooled regardless.

I don't believe in the Silent Majority any more. I also don't believe that the Grand Army of the Republic still exists. Certain groups existed at certain times in history, but that does not mean that they will always exist.
No doubt there are millions of conservatives and normals still in this land. And there are millions more that would be normals if they did not decide to hide or join the left in an feeble act of self preservation. But I do not see a Silent Majority anymore. Maybe they were too silent for too long and lost their majority.

It is obvious as least to me what has happened. The Left, the professional Left, made an effort to take over the schools and those efforts have born fruit. We talked about the idea as an academic point, but those days are over. The Left took over the schools and they are churning out leftists.

We can talk turn out en masse, and use other immediate ideas to try to stem the tide. But until someone comes up with a way to get normals into our schools, not as a minority, but as a majority, we will always be fighting a rear guard action.

I saw this happening in my own schooling. I know that patriotism was taught in first and second grade. Third and fourth there was a change and by fifth, the agenda was multiculturism and relativism. The stories and songs were changed.

Schools change curriculum frequently and unnecessarily. This is to keep the current fear mongering front and center. I never used the site nor will I ever. I see it from Twitchy and get to see the top threads. It is obvious the professional left has completely taken the site over and that will likely not change. They can send up the most absurd trending topics and they do just that every day. From what I can tell there is no organized right, there is nothing organized about it at all. That is a good thing in a way but these people are not going to send up good ideas based on merit.

Twitter trending hashtags or whatever they are will be all left all the time until the election at least. These people have no lives but they know what they are doing. Those that still care about it will not like that but it is what it is.

Sure I guess a conservative topic could come up, but these people are organized. We are in this fix because they are organized and we are playing in their milieu.

I was lucky to miss out on that. We had liberal teachers and I was not exactly in the most right wing area. But there was still a code. Even the liberal teachers did not punish you for thoughts. Even if they did we didn't notice it because we were made of different stuff. I had some lefty teachers that i went back and forth with in high school, but I never felt I was punished for it.

Something changed along the way no doubt. And we can't blame one generation as that is not how this stuff works. This was a multi generational take over of the schools. One side had a plan and the other did not. It is a shame because I truly believe the conservative plan would have been to let each individual find their own way. In k-12 education, special needs students are served with an IEP, an individualized education plan. This is what every child should have but our current structure doesn't allow for that. but they did it before. Maybe not the individualized plans you mentioned, but at least they let people find their own way on social issues. Sometimes I think back on my schooling in a very moderate region and am amazed at how they left us just be us.

i went through k-12 and then college and never took an SJW indoctrination course. I feel badly for the students today. Why waste their time with leftist indoctrination that they are required to take? If nothing else, conservatives should push to make those courses tuition free. They really should ban them but for sure no one should have to pay tuition for a forced class in lefty appreciation.

Getting the Feds out of the student loan business is the first part. The second part is making the schools the co-signing party for those college loans. You can bet your ass that SJW classes/programs will come to a screeching halt if the schools are on the hook for defaulted student loans. They'll want to turn out students who will be able to pay back the loan by having skills to get a job, not students who can man the barricades in some inner city 'CHAZ' takeover while they take a break from their barista job at Starbucks.

528 In k-12 education, special needs students are served with an IEP, an individualized education plan. This is what every child should have but our current structure doesn't allow for that. Additionally, most teachers resist catering to individuality in students. This problem is systemic and cultural in education.
Posted by: AmericanKestrel at June 15, 2020 03:36 AM (IDhUW)

Going through some classes for teaching certification (god help me), I can see that in theory they want children to be thought of as individuals (to a point) but in practice teachers simply do not want to do this because, well, it's hard. It is so much easier to treat every single student as if he/she are the exact same and if they are not, well, too bad.

I'll say it again: the more I look at my time in fourth grade, the more I am in awe. I had a teacher who found out I was more or less learning a great deal on my own and wanted to encourage me to do so. This was in Germany; when she found out I was visiting West Berlin, she couldn't have been happier and insisted I visit some places that, in retrospect, every American should go visit at least once (the Haus am Checkpoint Charlie being one such place). It was clear she had no room for commie Leftism (and in retrospect it is clear that she was extremely religious). She pushed for me to be accepted in the talented and gifted program at school, and when it came to individuality, she saw the way I held my pencil...and did nothing to correct it (every other teacher spend vast amounts of time trying to correct it, for all kids must do everything the exact same way, dont'cha know). And how did I wind up in her class? Through blind, dumb luck.

565 One of the most important differences between film and digital is that with film, the brighter something is, the less saturated the color is. With digital the brighter something is the more saturated the colors are. I didn't learn that until I started working with digital movie cameras. It is the primary difference between the look of movies shot on actual film, and those shot on digital movie cameras.
I use DaVinci Resolve as my movie editing and color grading software, and it allows you to make Digital movies to look very much like they are shot on film.

585 549 Reading something on a LA TV news site, about the TV networks are screening all TV programs for even a hint of racism. Even shows shown back in the 50-60's on channels like MeTV

=====
So what you're saying is that the demand for racism so outstrips the supply that they have to root through the worn out discard piles to fulfill their quotas.

588 Is this the same Lincoln who said,

"I am not, nor ever have been, in favor of bringing about in any way the social and political equality of the white and black races, that I am not, nor ever have been, in favor of making voters or jurors of negroes, nor of qualifying them to hold office, nor to intermarry with white people; and I will say in addition to this that there is a physical difference between the white and black races which I believe will forever forbid the two races living together on terms of social and political equality ... I will add to this that I have never seen, to my knowledge, a man, woman, or child who was in favor of producing a perfect equality, social and political, between negroes and white men."

Not very conservative of him, is it?
