BUT I DON'T HAVE ANY HUMMINGBIRDS IN MY YARD!

Well, I saw one last fall, but for some cruel reason, probably related to AGW and radiation from power lines and cell towers (that dastardly 5G strikes again!) and the global Jewish conspiracy, they are few and far between.

Yes, it is a tough life, and I see no relief on the horizon.

By the way, anyone know how they taste? I guess you use #12 shot, and probably nothing bigger than a 20 gauge.

They are wonderful. We have a particular type of blossom here that they love. Our location is on a big migratory route.
Sometimes they "buzz" me. They sound like the world's largest mosquitoes.
We also have doves. I love the sound of their coo.

47 Mrs. Jukin has about 10 Hummingbird feeders and I've planed lots of attraction plants/flowers. We have 30-50 Hummingbirds almost year round. Startle me when they protect their area, very aggressive and they come in the house and can't get out.

Those feeders also attract Orioles. I hear they like the liquid to be colored orange over red but go for red on ours. We go through about a 4 pound bag of sugar every3 weeks.

48 Two varieties of hummingbirds native to my AO, but close enough to the coast that we only usually see one type. Feeder hanging on the back porch always has plenty of customers.

Most years at one least one pair of western orioles nesting nearby - the idiots always hang on the wire holding the feeder and try to feed (without success). But the males are spectacular - jet black, bright yellow, white flash on the wings.

49 Hummingbirds are best served on crackers as hors d'oeuvres... the problem is that you need so many of them.

Rather than a shotgun, I recommend upping the voltage on a standard bug zapper, then concealing it inside a bundle of red artificial flowers (those are known to attract hummers). A few decoys or perhaps even some live "Judas birds" may be helpful here as well.

The advantage of this method is that the bird is captured and cooked in one operation. It's a perfect activity for an evening on the patio with friends, as it provides the entertainment as well as the snacks.

As each bird is zapped, pick it off the zapper with a wooden skewer (no metal here!) and transfer it immediately to a cracker, prepared ahead of time with a bit of cream cheese or other spread of your choice.

Then hand it to whichever guest's turn it happens to be so the guest can crunch it down while it's still piping hot.

Fun for the whole family!

Leaf blowers on the other hand - to hear them always gets on my very last nerve. Don't like the sound of sawing, but unlike a certain newscaster, I find listening to hammering is kind of soothing.

60 Okay, another stupid first world problem. I bought some nice wood house numbers around Christmas last yeas bc the temp UPS/FedEx drivers left pkgs at the neighbors while they were out of town. I need to put them up. But they are thin and I really don't want to drill holes. They will be attached to smooth stucco on a covered porch that gets virtually no weather or sun. Could I use rubber cement? Thought I would clean both, let it dry, draw a pencil line with a level and give it a shot.

Alot of our feeders do not have the bee protectors so the Orioles can get the good stuff. They usually get upside down, Body up head/beak down and they spill quite a bit gettin their drink on.

64 Regarding the "kerfuffle" of Sullivan hiring a lawyer, a few points to make.

1. Sullivan is not personally ("personal capacity") involved in the writ. The writ was against the District Court. Sullivan is simply the man behind the curtain.

2. Writs of mandamus (aka "mandate") are "emergency appeals" asking a higher court to force (i.e., mandate) the trial court to do or not do something. Usually, the trial court does not respond because it's up to the other party to defend the court's ruling/decision/whatever. The petitions for such writs are usually captioned something like "Party X v. District Court, Party Y, Real Party in Interest". Here, Flynn would be Party X and the United States would be Party Y, the party that really has the interest in the petition. But here, since the United States is essentially on Flynn's side, it obviously isn't defending Sullivan's ruling. That means that the District Court is defending its own ruling.
3. It's rare for trial courts (District Court in federal court, Superior Court or Circuit Court in many states -- basically, the full-service court) to defend their own rulings, but it does happen. Usually it's where the ruling affects the operations of the court or some serious institutional interest of the court. Again, usually handled by the opposing party. When the trial court does defend its ruling, it usually hires an outside lawyer to do the work. Again, it's not the judge hiring the lawyer, it's the court. (There's probably a budget or payment mechanism for this.) There are plenty of good reasons for having someone outside the litigation handle this, plus there are limited resources the court would have to do it.
I'm not defending Sullivan, but what happened is kind of yawn.

67 First (and only) time I ever saw a hummingbird was when I was 10 years old on a road-trip with my Uncle and Aunt to visit my other Aunt at her ranch in Tuscon, Arizona. Mt. Lemmon was seemingly in her backyard.

One of the days of our stay, we drove up the back way of the mountain to some area where there were restaurants and such. Outside the window of where we were sitting were a bunch of bird feeders where hummingbirds gathered around all the time.

It was so cool to see, as a kid who at that point knew nothing more than my area of the south side of Chicago. Seeing mountains and hummingbirds was simply amazing to me.

The type known as contact cement would probably work.

If the letters are pretty light weight (as it sounds like they are) I think I'd try hot-melt glue. The advantage of that is that you could take 'em down later by just heating up the number with a heat gun or powerful hair dryer.

One thing you have to be careful of is mildew growing on the inside - that's why you should wash and change the nectar every few days. Their little tongues will swell up and they die a horrible death. Ever since I read about that, I'm very paranoid about my hummingbird feeders.

We do get a couple mated pair of hummingbirds every year but a couple years ago we got our first Hummingbird Moths and I'll tell you it doesn't take much distance to mistake them for hummingbirds going after your flowers. Trying to hit a Bat with a broom stick is akin to trying to hit a knuckle ball with a toothpick. Eventually I did manage to stun/kill the Bats and get them out of the house.

92 90 Anybody else here ever run across "Hummingbird Moths"? I have a hummingbird feeder and lots of hostas in the woods around my home. We do get a couple mated pair of hummingbirds every year but a couple years ago we got our first Hummingbird Moths and I'll tell you it doesn't take much distance to mistake them for hummingbirds going after your flowers. Truly remarkable when you find them.

The theory goes like this: Media is UPSTREAM from politics. And while there's more to it than that, the assumption is that if you are firing at corporate media, you're aiming in the right direction. Whereas, strictly focusing on politicians is, to use the drug industry as an example, like focusing on street dealers only.

Corporate media must be destroyed. Once they are, politicians (and deep staters) will lose much of their power.

As for Sessions, I just think it's personal. And frankly, if Sessions is nominated, I don't think bad words from Trump will cause him to lose.

107 Real problem here -

Water heater was leaking, visibly, from the tank weld near the lower heater element. So I get a new one. Move the old one about five feet over to repair the water damaged gyp board.

Now that it is time to move the new water heater into place I find that the old one no longer leaks. The leak must have calcified.

Should I take the new water heater back for a refund or still use it and put the old one in the work shed so I have hot and cold running water in the shed?

Keep a pellet gun around the corner, and when you see him "dive-bomb" the others, wait for them to fly away and kill him as he feeds.

135 Water heater was first world problem... I can get by with just one in the house and ditch the old one. Six year warranty, so it should last six years and a day. Then I can go with gas. Already gas piped in, just not 'done' yet. Next winter I can get above ceiling and extend piping to kitchen so when the kids are out we can redo it and start cooking with gas.

I went to a few shops this past week, looking for some items. Big chain stores. Nobody mentioned masks, and I'd say the ratio was about 60/40 no mask.

My problem is, I don't understand how stores are arranged anymore. I can't find what I'm looking for, wander around for a bit, find somebody who works there, ask about it, and they say "oh sorry, we don't have that."

As much as I hate to say it, Amazon doesn't ever tell me they don't have it, it's always easy to find what I need, and they NEVER ask anybody to wear a mask.

169 Helena.. it's simply gorgeous there! Mountains all around..it will never get much bigger because it butts up against an Indian reservation and Ft. McDowell National Park. That's why I love it. My town I live in now grew from 25,000 when we moved her 1986 to close to 100,000. Too big, too much traffic. Everything has changed so much here I just hate it now. Plus I'm tired of Missouri winters.

Hummingbirds main diet is actually insects. I have all kinds of plants to attract the hummingbirds salvia, firecracker bush, corral honeysuckle, Turks caps, etc. I do put out a small feeder all spring, summer, and fall. Got to change it out every 3 days even if it looks untouched so they don't get sick.

179 On demand water heaters, just like regular water heaters ...depends on how far the faucet is from the heater. I have a small 4 gallon heater under the kitchen sink. Almost instantaneous hot water. My 40 gallon water heater is in the bathroom closet. It just feeds one bathroom. Almost instantaneous hot water.

Saw a video recently, of leopards sneaking up on and I suppose eventually eating what I assumed were small crocs or caimans.

I don't suppose one finds caimans in the Venice canals, as they are obviously only native to the waters around a group of small Caribbean islands.

As for the birds, I've become much more appreciative of ravens. They are a special breed of birds, not like any other.

Ravens are awesome, as are also the lesser corvids like crows, magpies, and jays.

They can be pretty sociable with humans, too. I've often had "conversations" with them.

Had one come up on our tent while we were out on a field problem. Started squawking like crazy until we all got out trying to shoo him away. No dice. Then we took to throwing a few snowballs at him. He just watched them go by then turned and looked STRAIGHT AT US and squawked again.

Finally got one perfectly on target... but he just hopped up about 2 feet in the air and plopped back down where he was standing. Squawk! Squawk!
