The NYT Continues Its Hysterical Anti-American Agitation, With An Obscene Front Page List Of Wuhan Flu Deaths

It's another grim milestone! Of course they don't do this for any other "pandemic," like malaria or Muslim terrorism or all of the other things that kill people at a rate several orders of magnitude greater than Sino-Lung-Rot. How about obesity, courtesy of the geniuses in the federal government who figured, "What the hell...let's change America's diet to a really bad one, based on nothing at all."

What's the body count for that little mistake? One million excess deaths? Five million?

Or the really big one, the holy grail of progressivism, their sacrament...abortion.

How many dead from that leftist savagery? 60,000,000?

The purpose of this horrid and manipulative front page is simple...to sow fear in the hearts of Americans, and make them question whether the federal government is doing anything to help. And the motivation is even simpler; the defeat of President Donald Trump in the presidential election of 2020.

The NYT WANTS America to be afraid. They WANT America to cower in our homes and continue the destruction of Trump's vibrant economy, courtesy of insane, capricious and probably corrupt rules governing who can and who cannot conduct business.

And they don't care that real Americans (unlike the frauds on their editorial board) are being injured, that the real work America has done over the last four years to pull itself out of the morass of government regulation and over-taxation is being destroyed.

Perhaps the legacy media will crumble into dust as a result of the very policies that they embrace. That would be a fitting send-off for a portion of the economy that has been disastrous for America.

That's one business whose failure we should applaud.

16 I can see how its news that a new disease killed tens of thousands of people in the USA, and if you believe the inflated, overblown official claim of deaths caused or contributed by Wuhan Flu, then 100k is a pretty dread Grim Milestone (although we didn't get there) to report on.

But... its not 100k, not even by the official count. You know they were setting this up for months in advance counting on reaching the big 100, but it didn't materialize and the way the deaths are slowing down, probably won't get there until winter when the impact of the issue will be too late. So they had to pull the trigger now.

67 And yet, they still refuse to share the statistics that matter: CFR based on age demographics

I've been following Michigan's data for weeks now. This is from the data as of a couple days ago, but the basic CFR has held steady.

Michigan population: 9.987 million
COVID-19 Cases: 52,530 (0.5% of population)
COVID-19 Deaths: 5,017 (0.05% of population
CFR: 9.6%

CFR based on age:

0 to 19 --- 0.3%
20 to 29 --- 0.1%
30 to 39 --- 0.7%
40 to 49 --- 1.8%
50 to 59 --- 4.2%
60 to 69 --- 10.7%
70 to 79 --- 23.4%
80+ --- 36.5%

So if you are between the ages of 0 to 59, your likelihood of surviving COVID-19 is 96% or higher. 99% or higher for anyone below the age of 40.

I did the same for Missouri earlier, when there was a freakout on Twitter about Lake of the Ozarks having a party yesterday.

676 deaths of 11,743 cases in Missouri among a population of 6.169 million.
CFR = 5.8%
CFR for anyone under 60? 2% or lower.

But that does not keep people hysterical and afraid and controlled and in obedience to the whims of their Governor masters.

Gotta keep the hysteria level of Americans at ZOMG WE'RE ALL GONNA DIEEEEEEE!

I have a friend who's a captain at a small town firehouse. He knows of a case where an infected man decided suicide was the solution and shot himself in the head. The death was ruled Covid because he was positive.

No, the death was from the bullet that rattled around his brain for a moment or two......

But yeah, the 100,000 death numbers are accurate.

90 So if you are between the ages of 0 to 59, your likelihood of surviving COVID-19 is 96% or higher. 99% or higher for anyone below the age of 40.

Latest CDC report puts the lethality around .4% Its just not very dangerous even to the elderly, unless they are really ill and weak to begin with. Which is pretty much the same as every other flu that hits in the winter.

Which again brings up this question: what, exactly, was going on in China? Why did so many die there from a fairly ordinary flu virus?

115 The U.S. government will likely impose sanctions on China if Beijing implements a national security law that would give it greater control over autonomous Hong Kong, White House National Security Advisor Robert OBrien said Sunday.

The draft legislation represents a takeover of Hong Kong, OBrien said, and as a consequence U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo would likely be unable to certify that the city maintains a high degree of autonomy. This would result in the imposition of sanctions against China under the Hong Kong Human Rights and Democracy Act of 2019, OBrien said.

My church had masks, but we have a mix of young and old, so it's mostly to protect the aged.

I asked at my grocery store, since I didn't have a mask in the car. Cart guy said no mask required except at-risk hours at the beginning of the day, when the store is sanitized and the customers have health issues.

And if you are willing to sacrifice 30M of your own people to make the great leap forward ala Mao, what's a couple million deaths to provide cover for your fuckup or asymmetrical warfare play?

Which again brings up this question: what, exactly, was going on in China? Why did so many die there from a fairly ordinary flu virus?

Posted by: Christopher R Taylor at May 24, 2020 12:29 PM

Sticking with my tinfoil hat theory that this has always been a black op between USA Deep State and China.

--- Deep State and China both want Trump gone.
--- They were already working together with Dr. Fauci on viruses in the Wuhan Lab.
--- China already has WHO under their control
--- Add in Bill Gates and his massive contributions to the WHO
--- Add in Bill Gates and the Event 201 pandemic war-gaming conference so they have the last minute planning for the operation

But what about all the deaths in China? Well, what data from China about COVID-19 do we have that's even correct?

And all that freakout regarding welding people in their homes and taking people off the street to throw in quarantine... street theater.

How is anyone going to know anything anyway about what went on or has been going on in China over the past 8 months, since they kicked out all world media?

Like you stated, this is nothing more than what happens during a normal flu season in the USA.

The only difference is the media does not report all the cases and deaths from flu on a daily basis and freak everyone out.

But, if they did? It would be exactly like what they are doing now.

CDC estimates that 79,400 died during influenza season in 2017-2018 (OCT thru MAR).

So 79,400 / 6 months = 13,233 influenza deaths per month

Or 441 deaths per day.

If the media decided they wanted to freak people out about influenza, they could easily hype those numbers.

"441 more people tragically died today of the influenza virus..."

They choose not to do that during influenza season, but they have chose to do that for COVID-19.

So yeah, come to Michigan, but go to northern part of state if you want to do anything without hassle.

Being over 29 but fortunately healthy I also wonder how the age stats would pan out of controlled for a few basic comorbidities like morbid obesity, diabetes and chronic kidney disease, which all increase over age (in the aggregate).

If a few things were controlled out, I suspect the explanatory power of age in terms of real risk mortality is even less than suggested by the raw numbers.

This has probably been done by someone but I haven't heard any stories on that, and I think it would be a very significant way people in good health could help realistically assess their risk.

So your stats are worst case scenario if you actually wind up fulfilling the criteria of being a case. Your numbers could probably be divided by 5? 10?

Posted by: MikeM at May 24, 2020 12:39 PM

Exactly. This is all worst case taking the numbers at face value.

And if the worst case data is showing this is not a crisis, then that's probably why the media chooses to not share them.

Gotta keep hyping "5,000 deaths in Michigan! ZOMG!" ... instead of ... "ages 0 to 59, your case survival rate is 95% or better".

Not to mention, can't remind people that 5,000 deaths is in a state of 10 million people, and amounts to 0.05% of the population. And more Michiganders die of heart disease every month every year than of COVID-19.

The numbers were bullship, they've always been bullship, and they will always be bullship. They won't go away as long as they serve a purpose, and the straights will believe it. Because they do.

Briefly, when in the first decades of the HIV/AIDS panic, they were getting data suggesting the virus was spreading more quickly to heterosexuals. There were breathless reports all over the place that the fastest growing risk groups were... heteros. And teh wimminz!!

Now, you can probably guess the holes in that story.

However, an actual, you know, researcher, went into the very same New York City we got here, and they reviewed cases of heterosexual transmissions. They did re-interviews with a tightly solid sampling of these cases.

What did they find?

About 2/3 cases that were reported as heterosexual transmission, weren't.

People lied.

Imagine that. If there's an incentive for people to lie, and they can get away with it, they will.

And the CDC was MORE than happy to keep the old data anyway, because it served their purpose, and TO THIS DAY, people still think HIV will be transmitted in ways it never would, and never did.

Everyone wear a condom out there. It's not safe.

History repeats itself.

Now the only time you see it in the movies is along with some federal agency. Or maybe a villain. Or a white supremacist. Or possibly over a coffin.

They will allow them alongside one of their favored class constituencies, so they will let a muslim who is criticizing Trump stand with a flag, or a trans kid can speak about "hate" from a podium with two little cute mini flags.

You'll get it at the expected times like the Super Bowl national anthem. But for the most part it's no longer just the flag anymore. It's like this rare oddity.

Have never taken anything but normal precautions always observed in flu season (I'm in the age group deemed vulnerable) such as sanitizing hands, having recommended flu shots, etc.

To date, IF I've had flu, it has been so mild as to be indistinguishable from a cold.

300 The NYT sure hooked one target -- one of my sons.

He sent that front page to me with a note that these are real people who died. To him, because I believe that this panic is unjustified, I'm writing off the dead as numbers, like Stalin did.

He's forgotten that I have copy-edited countless news stories about people who died violently, including auto crash fatalities. Those stories included names.

I'm annoyed at him, but today's sermon was on forgiveness. Lip buttoned.

The only person I've written off is him, as a lost cause. For now. Hope springs eternal.

Hey, Times, devote a front oage to 1 percent of auto fatalities this year! Or cancer deaths!

Friggin' panic-mongers.

Yeah, no. Places may technically be open for business, BUT... with massive restrictions: mask wearing, social distancing and 50% capacity, etc.

So, businesses are going to face exactly what you decided to do: customers deciding to not patronize those businesses, because they have no interest in abiding by the stupid restrictions.

In my part of the county in Maryland, masks are required in grocery stores, pharmacies, farmers markets and big box retailers. I've seen signs requiring masks in other businesses, though (i.e., convenience stores and carry out for restaurants). Seems every business now requires them - I guess to show that they "care" or to protect their employees.

And, people just ignore those one-way signs in stores now.

But I'm not sure I have a quick link saved for the CDC's numbers. Other than the provisional deaths page. And that is not broken down to show the fatality rate.

360 I had to wear a mask one time, my daughter went to get her driver's permit last week and the DMV made us wear one. I just couldn't disappoint her, but looking like a train robber in a bandana at a govt office felt so 1820.

PS - be wary driving in my neighborhood.

364 I know this. If people don't come to their senses
soon no major American city will be habitable. Without the tourists,
the museums, the symphonies, filled sports venues, the operas, the
eateries, the neighborhood cultural events and the offices used for
commerce why would a city even still exist? Why would anybody choose to
live there? Even considering it's the NYT why can't they see this,
especially with respect to their own metropolis?

368 Before Drumpf was installed as president by Putin and the Putin shenanigans that we call "the Electoral College," there was no death in the United States. No one ever died here. It's true. Electing Drumpf was just like Eve getting Adam to bite the Big Apple (don't mind the maggots). It brought death to what had been an idyllic Eden that had been presided over by the angelic and divine Saint Barack, peace be upon him.

373 It's not cheap propaganda. That's Chris Plante playing it at the end of his show.

I know that it follows Chris's show, I did not know that it was at Chris's insistence. Thanks for the clarification. Chris Plante is my choice for Rush's replacement when that day comes.

I do know that the top of the hour news is decidedly anti-Trump. One of the male news readers refuses to call President Donald Trump anything other than "Mr. Trump".

There was one news blurb that referred to the Abbot Labs tests not being 100% accurate, (which to expect so is silly) but they couldn't help but mock "Mr. Trump" by claiming that it was his recommendation and his official test.

I suspect that the enemedia is now, through reflex, associating Trump to whatever failure happens anywhere on the planet.

When we moved up here from the Southern Tier to this quiet neighborhood (12 years ago, wife just tells me) we were the only ones on the block displaying a flag.

There's been a flag displayed at our houses forever, Dad having been a WW2 vet and I continue the tradition.
My flag hangs off the side of the house, is all weather and is displayed in accord with protocol. Now I notice of the 9 houses on our street, 8 show flags, something to feel good about.

379 Greetings from still locked down central Illinois... This morning my daughter and I (Catholic) got to receive Communion for the first time since early March. It was not a real Mass, but a brief, almost assembly-line like service outside the front door of a parish school. Everyone had to carefully line up six feet apart on the sidewalk and wait their turn to advance in groups, and everyone had to wear a mask.

It was better than nothing, I suppose, and I was quite grateful for the chance to receive the Sacrament again -- but my daughter (who is autistic and likes routine) said afterward she'd rather not do it again until we can actually go to Mass again.

It wasn't the same at all and I do envy those in the free states who can actually go to Mass even if it is sociallly distanced.... maybe we should have gone to Missouri this weekend after all (we backed out because of hot/humid/stormy weather and concern about too much traffic).

Yes. To extend the comparison I made to Pravda, it's again exactly the same. The only people who read it were other state media organs and Party members who all needed to keep up with the daily changes to the New Official Truth, lest they risk excommunication or worse. Don't want to be caught flatfooted blaming "bad weather" for crop failures when it's been changed to "CIA plot to introduce Colorado beetles as a famine inducing bioweapon" (this actually happened).

This is more or less the function NYT and WaPo serve in our dysfunctional Statist system, and they provide the main POC between the security services who run this country, and the propaganda arms... And Twitter serves as a super streamlined means of keeping all Party organs on their same page.

I'm not joking or exaggerating when I say that our Ministry of Communications is far more rigorously disciplined than theirs... Soviet MiniComm apparatchiks would, after all, occasionally slip off message. This never happens in America.

He's stolen or cribbed every idea he's ever espoused from various think tanks and has all but renounced any faint glimmer of conservative philospohy he's supposedly.

You notice how these supposed Conservatives never attack Trump's lack of Conservatism?
That's because Trump is the most programmatically and temperamentally conservative President we've had.

Even more Conservative than Reagan, in fact he's taken the best parts of Regan and made them more Conservsative and jettisoned all of Regan's airy fairy liberal, Shining City on a Hill bullshit.
I don't need platitudes, I need someone to smash these commies in the face.

Which Trump does, all day every day, three sixty five.

Show of hands... who here has managed to completely avoid wearing a mask?

Posted by: creeper at May 24, 2020 01:18 PM

Right here.

I get all my groceries through Kroger Clicklist Pick-up and the only time I was required to wear a mask to enter a business (Subway last week), I told them I would just wait outside, since I did not have a mask. And the young lad behind the counter seemed uneasy at my suggestion I just zip my jacket up and pull the collar up over my mouth and nose.

Granted, if my company decides to end our going on 11-weeks of work from home and keep their current guidelines in place, I will have to do the following to work in the office:

--- Fill out health questionnaire on app to be cleared to enter building
--- Have temperature taken to be cleared to enter building
--- Receive company-provided mask, to be worn all day all throughout the building, even at desk when working
--- Follow arrows on ground for one-way walking everywhere in building
--- Follow 6' social distancing everywhere in building, including at desk
--- No use of conference rooms for meetings, stay at my desk to do online meetings
--- Strongly suggested to remain in suite and not walk to any other area of building for any reason other than going to bathroom
--- Strongly suggested to not leave building for lunch, but if one must, one must enter through only entrance that will be left open after 8:30am and go through the whole entering process again (app, temperature, mask, etc)
--- Constant disinfection of our work area throughout the day, while wearing gloves

So, yeah, if they force us back into the office to work, that will be our new normal, apparently until there is a vaccine.

I'm going to tell them to politely fuck off and I'll continue to work from home, instead of put up with that bullshit.

More for just-in-case prankish fun than anything else, I've carried a bandana with me (usually) when we go to town. This is a hold-up type bandana, except fancy pattern not traditional red or blue.

Never wore any mask, never got chided for it, nor for not caring about floor stickers. Have had nice chats with folks wearing masks - no Kravitzes anywhere. But we don't go out with the busy-time crowds, so our sampling may not match other times of day.

Pretty much nowhere do I see anyone giving a flying leap about anything, and masks are increasingly optional even where "required."

Don't blame anyone for wearing masks in Oklahoma Allergy Armageddon days!

500 It's not really that much of a shock I guess, given the idiotic "climate" nonsense that is so costly and indefensible for years now, but the degree of unscientific, nearly animist ju-ju b.s. embodied in the measures Clyde Shelton's workplace wants to impose is stunning.

There's not even a hint of understanding of basic public health and epidemiology by these people - often the "public health" authorities of your state or county.

This virus is clearly prevalent (wide spread, far far far beyond the degree at which conventional epidemiological common sense excludes general containment), and dangerous to a tiny demographic sliver.

Amazing how ignorant and unscientific a society has developed in the US (and in other prosperous "educated" countries).

The NY Civil Liberties Union helped her file the lawsuit and hours later the Mayor reversed his stand on non essential gatherings and protests

She continued to protest the day after she was released ,carrying a placard which said ,"This is no longer about the virus. This is about freedom."

If it's a genuine Civil War artillery shell, depending on what condition it's in, it would be worth several thousand dollars to a collector. A solid shot not so much, but that would not require the bomb squad. Despite being filled with black powder, which is vulnerable to moisture, Civil War shells are often still explosive after all this time. The usual non-destructive disarming procedure is to drill a small hole in the shell while it's submerged in a bucket of water. Although, some years back, a collector/dealer managed to blow himself to ribbons doing just that. Eight-inch shell, kind of a big one.
