I took this opportunity to really think about my circle of friends and social media and decided to burn it all down.
I ended all my social accounts and a 13 year old friendship with a left friend who went so fucking full retard that I decided enough was enough.

I hope so too. Since hubby is a hermit anyway he doesn't care but I'm very much a social person and I miss so much hanging out with friends. Back when Dayton Hamvention (which shoulda been next weekend) was at Hara Arena there was a dead mall about a mile down the road that was used as overflow parking for the maybe 50 spots on site used for handicapped.
A Sears tire store was the sole retail remaining, the rest was ~100 acres of parking, with buses running every 15 minutes to Hara.

Jewells, could I share some advice that's helped keep me sane personally? Just start blocking people left and right. Make them STFU and go away. If people are screaming at and abusing you online over you sharing your own political POV on your little piece of FB, or wherever, you don't need those people in your life anymore. I don't GAF how close they think they are to you or how entitled they feel to scream.
Over the past several years I've pretty much blocked *everyone* who pisses me off anywhere online, and I mean everyone. If a day goes by where I *haven't* blocked someone at either FB or Quora, it's unusual.

This makes me depressed and extremely angry as well. But I still, desperately, try to look at the bright side.
Look at Sheley Luther. She now doesn't really have to go back to work if she doesn't want to. I would bet the 77-year-old barber who was forced out of business, has a GoFundMe up and running as well.
We as conservatives still have tons to do, but at least we've gotten much better at supporting each other in numerous ways, both online and IRL.
As I've said before, I would love to see an online program developed to help people like me with obtaining low-interest loan funds to move from blue states to red states. I would be so thankful and make sure I pay back every penny, even if it takes me the rest of my life. I do know I'm not gonna stay in California the rest of my life.

I think the Millennials are going to revolt sooner or later. They are going to want their triple-whatever soy lattes whenever they want one, their artisan salads crafted by the cool chef in his tiny cafe, their vacations to exclusive ocean or ski resorts, and so on. And they will want to enjoy an un-hurried round of drinks with friends in their favorite small pub, before going to a play that has a wait-list of months.

With my circles, I can't avoid having a lot of leftist "friends." There's only one I regularly mix it up with, and that's only because she seems to view it as her job to play "fact-checker" when I post something. The lockdown policy is so obviously laughable, though, she's been getting the worst of it recently, and I think has kind of given it up.

the left plays such bullshit with the numbers constantly - anytime you see the word "Death Rate" get extremely suspicious, because there are at least a dozen different ways to calculate it, and all of the are orders of magnitude different from each other.
And the biggest trick is to use a method that is designed to give a high number, and compare it to a method that gives a low number. They do this every day.
What happened in Texas is that we had the highest number of single day *deaths* , but it was still only 58 (iirc) and it was very close to where the daily number has been bouncing around lately. Just looked, today it was 56. Sad, of course, but nothing close to overwhelming any medical facilities, and not representing any big new jump. Also, deaths are a lagging indicator, representing cases begun 2 - 4 weeks ago. New hospitalizations is the most relevant number, and nothing terrible is happening there.

Cuomo is flying high right now, but he's a terrible politician. His approval will eventually revert to the mean, as his conduct in handling this latest crisis comes to light - and it will.

Nobody knows how many small schools and colleges will fold because of this crisis, but it's likely to be a whole lot of them.
The great irony - to survive they all need to be pushing for this country to open up as fast as possible, to try and save their fall semesters. Instead, they're almost all still cheerleading their own destruction, and they'll continue doing so until it's far too late to save themselves.

It's not something I have a lot of familiarity with. I have the needed materials, or at least the bulk of them, but I don't know much about the technical aspects required. I'd be interested in a podcast or online course, though, if it could provide a decent income.

That's a Quality ONT in my book.
Some of the best meals I've ever had, were a simple can of this n' that over a campfire. If I were abundantly blessed, maybe a bit of fresh caught fish as the main course.
Same with "C" rations. When you've burned a 4,000 calorie day, humping ruck, the cardboard box the 'rats would come in, looked appealing, too.

I feel worse for the smaller schools--or if not for them, then for the towns that are in a sense dependent on them. Fulton, just east of here, has a couple of small liberal-arts colleges, including Westminster (where Churchill gave his Iron Curtain speech), and is a very lovely place, but if those colleges were to go under, it would be up Sh*t Creek. It doesn't deserve that either, but that's what would happen.

Jackson is a no-go. Teton county is solidly blue. Cody (my home town) is heading that way, alas. Sheridan is still okay, but the East slope of the Bighorns is exactly the kind of thing that would attract the locusts.

Southwest you have Fort Bridger, Green River. Aside from the existence of I-80, very nice areas.

So, an idea...there are a LOT of parents looking for quality, non diversity crazy higher ed for their children. The kind that was (I hear) prevalent in the 1920's-1950's. If you know some like minded profs y'all could start online, and then wait until the moribund small colleges go belly up and buy the buildings cheap.
This happened in our former home town--a classical academy started, grew, and ended up buying buildings from a failed school to train teachers. And miracle of miracles, it revived the nearby neighborhood of beautiful historic houses.
We are in a cross-hairs moments. Some things are dying or finally recognizing that they are dead. But new and better options suited for the time will spring up.

I'm sure there was. Never saw him in concert, but I once attended a showing of Purple Rain because it was on a double bill with Heavy Metal at the discount theatre.
Lots of attractive young ladies, to be sure.
I still remember one black guy, obviously dragged to the movie by his girlfriend, loudly muttering "F____t" every time Prince or the other guy (whoever he was) appeared on the screen, followed by the gf attempting to shush him.

Studies done in San Diego, LA, Miami (I think), and a city in Germany (I'm less sure about that) and NYC all were showing 20%-ish antibody presence. Those were all preliminary and might be off a bit. But they were also urban populations. I think you'd expect to see lower spread in suburbs and rural areas, and nationwide testing should give lower results as its an average.
I don't think it would skew quite that much, though. Spain may just be an outlier, too.

Speaking of pubs...
I went to Calgary today, in an effort to do some shopping. Stopped at my friend's place, and dropped off some Dodge pickup doors and fenders he had acquired in Arizona. Yes, my Suburban swallowed 4 doors, and two front fenders, and still had a little room left. Anyway, he told me that Calgary and Brooks are the two towns in Alberta with the worst
WuFlu stats, and they are shut down pretty tight.
Drove on in to the city. Wanted to go to Princess Auto. Big line-up of people "socially distancing" to get in. Eff that. Drive on; went to gas station, and filled up for 80 cents per liter. Cheapest gas has been for years, which is a good thing, as the odds of me being hired again to help find more of the shit are pretty poor right now.
Went to the pet store, and got food and doggie treats for Pogo. Figured I'd go to Peter's drive-thru for a burger. Cars lined up around the block. Eff that, drove on. Stopped at an auto supply store, bought the socket and screwdriver on my want list. I was the only customer in the place. Drove on to Chicken-on-the-Way, a Calgary landmark fried chicken joint. They were open, only one customer inside, and I got chicken to go. They never had dine-in anyway. Ate that in the parking lot, and Pogo shared.
Drove on to Wally World. Line-up out front, all spaced 2 meters apart. Eff that. Drove back on to my friend's place again, stopped and had some beers with him. Headed home from there. Grocery store in Beiseker was closed, but the one in Acme was open. Got what I needed there. As I was driving out of Acme, Lo! And Behold! The Acme Hotel pub had their "open" sign lit, and the door was open. If I had not already had as much beer as I should have when driving, I would have stopped in.

I'm not sure what insight I can offer, other than that it sucks. I don't think it's learned. In my case it's been a mixture of genetics and depression with a dash of obsessive and intrusive thoughts that like to kick in when it's time to sleep. Things like cognitive-behavioral therapy and medication can help.

My problem is medication related, so I sleep when the med concentration in my blood is nearing its nadir and it's nearly time to take the next dose. And I sleep when I'm so exhausted there's no alternative.

If he sees a neurologist who's a sleep specialist it could be a good place to start. You kind of have to rule out different causes and tinker a bit to figure out the best approach.

I took a sick day today, woke up w/ a sore throat and as I started ambulating my sciatica kicked in. To tell the truth I felt like crap and was worried I had the CCP Flu.
Did get something done after the meds kicked in. Planted a lot in the veggie garden, onion sets (soak them a bit and dip the ends in rooting powder for those to get any early start), second planting of peas, also squash and pumpkins.

Wash the jeans in hot water, with your usual detergent, but add a cup of Stoddard solvent. Odorless paint thinner will work. Safe to dry the clothing thus washed in an electric dryer; not sure about a gas dryer. Hang on the line is good, too.

groovy girl, also we usually take 2 deer from the herd each year. We harvest them like we harvest vegetables from the garden.
In 2012, we had a drought,, and got EHD here. Kilt all the old deer, and killed about 25% of the oaks in our woods.
Since, anyone can kill any buck they want, but the doe are off limits.
Our garden has a 7' fence. The doe feel protected, and bring those big-ass bucks right close to the house.
Last 8 deer killed here, 7 have been kilt off the porch.

Working on the oil rigs when I was a kid in College in the 80's we washed our coveralls in diesel in a 5 gal bucket and then would let them sorta air dry and take to a laundromat to wash. We blew out a block wall in a laundromat in Hays KS that was 80 feet long with diesel coveralls in a gas dryer.
Luckily we were in a bar half a block away. We never went back to get our coveralls...

The Soviets had little pieces of paper on which they filled out their personal info, rolled up inside a capsule which did/didn't prove to be water-tight ("smyertniy medalyon" or death medallion), often sewn into their belt or trousers.
Lots of good Russian videos now on UToob of people recovering Red Army soldier remains, and trying to find legible papers inside the capsules. Efforts made, when the info is recovered, to contact families. Very cool.

As of 10 years ago, there were still "amateur" efforts on Okinawa, by both American and Japanese, to explore and document war sites (mostly caves).
In Russia, all of this really only began in the 1990s, after the Soviet collapse. So now it's going strong. And, sadly, there is *so much* to explore and document (losses in any of the many major Soviet battles, win or lose, would be comparable to entire US campaigns).

Cascades East of Ft Lewis. We were in warm M1A1s while Doing live fire exercises supporting a Gurkha attachment. Guys were humping packs and mortars in 2 ft of snow, poor bastards. Afterwards a couple of our warrant officers took out the Brit officers for drink. Warrant officers got a lesson in proper English drinking.

Your place sounds like heaven.
Last year when we got up to our river place there was a huge raccoon ambling on the deck, bold as brass. The dogs didn't notice him but i did from inside. My hopes-to-be son was busy looking up whether we could shoot the varmint (hah!); meanwhile my husband got the shotgun and dispatched him forthwith, when the dang thing was treed.
Plop...dogs went nuts.
Fast forward to last fall and we had one of the best days of the year skeet shooting with a master gunsman--perfectt fall day at a beautiful outdoor range. Hate to think of the creep governor of the state shutting down shooting ranges.

One thing I find amazing, as I blaze through dozens of military histories - how so many books lack any maps at all, or decent ones. Often rendering the narrative incomprehensible, or at best difficult. WTF?
David Glantz, the big name in Red Army and Great Patriotic War history in the US, has a few books with maps that were done for $47, or something. Basically terrain maps with near-incomprehensible scribbles (literally hand-written) on them. In books of the densest, most detailed narratives. Huh?

I find that problem about maps when I'm reading Roman history, or any ancient History for that matter. If I don't have maps to show me where the Marcomanni were, e.g., it's all just so
much gibberish.
About the only military history books for which I don't need maps, although quite useful when they show troop locations/dispositions, are books on the US Civil War. I'm familiar with US geography, but not necessarily the particular unit locations in a given battle.
But other than that, yeah, give me some decent maps to go along with the text. I have one oversized Civil War book where the battle maps are the main focus and are really artwork (full two-page spreads), showing troop movements/locations daily or even every couple of hours for a given battle. Really helped bring those battles to life, so to speak, especially how close run a thing some of those battles were; some unit getting to a crossroads first, e.g. Reading that Civil War book is almost like reading a chess book, that whole 'mass and maneuver' part of war in those days.

The diesel smell thing. You can blame the new washing machines and the low water usage requirements. Miley has never had to deal with really dirty, farmer dirty clothes. You know, ground in dirt, grease, diesel fuel, hydraulic oil, motor oil, and other shit. Nor with someone like me who delights in wallowing in it.
The old washing machines could handle that, with maybe 2 wash cycles, which was no problem. Lots of water, which with the detergent could get that out of the clothes.
The newer ones can't.

The last decent washing machine we had is still out in a shed. The transmission seal went bad, and let oil start coming in the wash tub (and presumably water into the transmission).
I think I might, when I get a chance, get that thing out and look into fixing it. That thing would clean the dirtiest clothes you ever saw. Full water usage, I don't know what the tub size was, 10, 15 gals?
If I could fix it, I'd have a washing machine that would work.

Ca has been on borrowed time. If they lose 10% of the top 1000 taxpayers in the state, CA will fold. I think 600 taxpayers make the entire state budget work, even as poorly as it does now.
CA governance since Reagan should be taught everywhere as what not to do.
