A Quote of The Day and a drink...........

***

The Saturday Night Joke

A woman ran a red traffic light and crashed into a man's car. Both of their cars are demolished, but amazingly neither of them was hurt.

After they crawled out of their cars, the woman said; "Wow, just look at our cars! There's nothing left, but fortunately we are unhurt. This must be a sign from God that we should meet and be friends and live together in peace for the rest of our days.”

The man replied, "I agree with you completely. This must be a sign from God!

The woman continued, "And look at this, here's another miracle. My car is completely demolished, but my bottle of 75-year old scotch didn't break. Surely God meant for us to drink this vintage delicacy and celebrate our good fortune." Then she handed the bottle to the man.

The man nods his head in agreement, opened it, drank half the bottle and then handed it back to the woman. The woman took the bottle, immediately put the cap back on, and handed it back to the man.

The man asks, "Aren't you having any?"

She replies, "Nah. I think I'll just wait for the police."

Some years ago Adam ate the apple. Men will never learn! H/T Legally Sufficient

Poor little Former Prince Harry, Be careful for what you wish for.

Prince Harry May Have Regrets About ‘Megxit’ as It’s Revealed He’s Struggling With New Life
Harry is particularly missing life in the Army, as he had to give up his military appointments when he stepped down as a royal ...

Speculation is mounting that Prince Harry is having regrets about stepping down as a senior member of the British royal family and moving to Los Angeles, California with his wife Meghan Markle. It has just been reported that Harry is struggling with the fact that he is both friendless and jobless in his new home.

So the sex isn't that hawt after all?

There really is a market for everything.

HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) – U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers in Harrisburg agreed with the Pokemon slogan, “Gotta catch ‘em all!” when they seized more than 86,000 counterfeit Pokemon action figurines Wednesday.

They say if authentic, the figurines would have had a manufacturer’s suggested retail price of nearly $604,000.

While inspecting international parcels May 4, CBP officers examined a shipment manifested as “plastic furnishing articles” that arrived from Hong Kong. The shipment contained 15 boxes that contained a combined 86,400 Pokemon toy action figures.

Government, thou shalt not pick winners and losers.

A Federal Judge in Michigan has ruled Gentleman’s Clubs are eligible for Wuhan Virus federal assistance, claiming businesses cannot be discriminated against. And let’s be honest, the clubs give guys more joy than a Walmart or Amazon.

Strip club workers and owners, losing their shirts in this coronavirus pandemic, cannot be barred from emergency federal loans and grants, a federal judge ruled on Monday.

U.S. District Judge Matthew Leitman sided with plaintiffs, led by the DV Diamond Club in Flint, Michigan, and said the Small Business Administration — in doling out finds from the Paycheck Protection Program — cannot exclude legal businesses deemed to be of a “prurient sexual nature.”

A cool thing? Or shit? You be the judge.

YouTuber Funk Turkey (previously at Neatorama) fed lyrics from AC/DC songs into a Markov chain and generated a new AC/DC song. The lyrics make about as much sense as you'd expect, but this is definitely an AC/DC song. The real test would be to drop this into a playlist of a fan and see how they react. You can do that, because the song is on Spotify. He's going to try this with Metallica next. -via reddit

Well, this ought to work out well for the NFL. Can we use virtual officials while we are at it?

If the NFL must at least begin its upcoming season in empty venues due to coronavirus-related safety concerns, Fox has a plan for that: Digitally-rendered audiences and crowd noise.

Or if you want to acknowledge how weird that could be, imagine watching a game on TV in which the stadium is populated with ghost fans. Sports Business Journal reporter John Ourand caught the news while listening to sportscaster Joe Buck on Sirius XM's Andy Cohen Live.

Do you want to put on extra pounds? Do you want to make CBD shake his head? No, we aren't talking maple syrup on French Toast..........

Well, at least Wisconsin doesn't have Florida Man.

Florida Man Justin Mosser had a very legit reason for driving around with his penis out and (ALLEGEDLY) stroking it as he pulled up next to women driving around Avon Park, Florida a town right in the middle of nowhere Florida. It gets hot and he needs to air it out. Legit reason. It’s hot AF season in Avon Park and the humidity is rising. Justin needs to air it out. Simple as that.

Maybe he will connect with tonight's Genius Award Winner.

My sister used to withhold sex from her husband to break his balls. They would fight about it all the time. He asked her once what was she doing with it if he couldn't knock the bottom out of it now and then.

I laugh about it till this day.

That poor ignorant bastard probably never had the opportunity to learn very, very basic flags and warning signs in relationships with the fairer sex.

106 If the NFL must at least begin its upcoming season in empty venues due to coronavirus-related safety concerns, Fox has a plan for that: Digitally-rendered audiences and crowd noise.

On FOX Sports today, German football was back, albeit played in empty stadiums with no crowd noise soundtrack. The players and refs on the pitch did not wear masks, though bench players and support staff, along with other officials and medical staff, did. The managers didn't wear masks on the sidelines, either, as they shout instructions to the players on the pitch while the game is underway. Oh, and any player protesting a call by the ref protested the proper social distance 6' away. That last bit was funny to watch.

I truly believe she thought she would waltz in as his wife, and the British public would demand that she and Harry be moved up in line of succession. To Charles' place. When she realized that she had to work, and she had to be demure and give respect to the Queen and more senior royals, she had enough and demanded to go back to the US, and used the baby as a threat to Harry.

The no-fan games should be played on junior high school fields. Not much seating at those to begin with, so the networks won't have to deal with a big, empty, echoing background environment. Light and camera towers or cranes can be set-up. State of the art artificial turf can be laid down, or send the pro stadium ground crews in several weeks before to sod and groom the field. I think it would be a great move by the NFL.

169 A better option for NFL Crowd Noise, would be to just hot mic a pair of major sports bars.

One in the Home Team's town, and the other in the Visitor's town.

The whole thing would have to be on a 7 sec. delay, including the video feed.

'Cause there'd be a whole lotta F bombs being bleeped out.

But it would be authentic crowd noise, and crowd noise actually being directly relevant to the game being played.

They should use this idea, and they should pay me royalties.

Well, it takes a finite time for the alcohol to hit your bloodstream. If they did a breathalyzer test right then and there, and read over .08, they'd have grounds for saying you were already intoxicated. And if they did repeated tests over the next few hours, they could probably plot a curve that would reveal your baseline drinks.

Or they could just ticket you from drinking in a public place.

Evidence will reveal (in due time) that wearing masks caused more damage to healthy people, than would have been done from the virus without masks worn. And more death and sickness (mental and otherwise) will be done from shutdowns, than if we let covid-19 run its course, with a few milder precautions.

363 Is anyone here familiar with Markov's work? I just learned about it tonight, and am fascinated by the fact that it was used to disprove another scientist's apparently doctrine-based argument that the existence of binomial distributions implies free will, ie they could only occur with independent events.

It would seem Nekrasov's argument was flawed, as it was "disproven" by Markov, who proved that dependent events also result in a binomial distribution. But to me all Markov actually proved was what occurs in an ordered universe. We *know* the universe is ordered, or science and math would not exist.

So I think all Markov demonstrated was that free will in an ordered universe would result in a deterministic convergence. Am I wrong?

I think someone needs to put me some knowledge here. Or maybe I'm still just procrastinating.

back 30 years ago, in my service business, that was a way to skirt paying employee taxes and/or insurance. But it was not legal unless the "contractor" had other jobs that were as much or more than that one "contract". Maybe they still can get away with it, idk. Or maybe the beauty shop "seat fee" is different enough from my work which was servicing businesses, that it qualifies.

Posted by: illiniwek at May 16, 2020 11:39 PM (Cus5s)

401 In all seriousness, the reason I think places like the UK and Australia and the entire EU have gone so big into "Climate Change" and full time Virtue Signaling about "Saving the World!!!"...

it's a psychological reaction to the unbearable fact that they are now military, social, and economic backwaters of no real importance to the world scene anymore. Australia can do whatever they feel like, and in terms of the actual world situation, it matters about as much as what Botswana or Paraguay may do. No one cares. In real terms, they are big Nothings.

and for people who are still proud, that is a Terrible thing to face. The reality that, outside of their personal lives, nothing they do will ever actually matter in any real world way, because they live in weak and inconsequential nations, who depend on the good will of others for their continued survival.

SO do they react with gratitude? of Course not! They react with rage, and a lot of puffed up nonsense about how they WILL save the world, because they Believe So Hard!!!

rational, honest people would accept themselves for who they are, and lead lives accordingly. But most of them seem incapable of that.

411 The Prime Minister of Australia, Scott Morrison is what we might call conservative leaning. Officially, he's the Liberal Party but it doesn't mean the same thing it means here. He seems to be friendly with Trump.

My sister and BIL lived in Australia for years, He played professional soccer, and no he's not a Nancy Boy and my point is not about soccer. There are plenty of conservatives in Australia. After all, they started as a English penal colony, so there is almost an ingrained gene to be distrustful of the government and support freedoms. However, like the mainstream media is leftist.

I'm going to rant about Tractor Supply. Every time I go in the local one here in Mauldin, I get pissed and say I'm never going in again. But time passes and I forget.

I needed some electric fence supplies. Looked on their website and they said the local store had all I needed. I get there this afternoon, and they don't have half the shit they said they had. Gal working there (whose thighs would make a good sized Christmas ham, I must note), said "Well, you can't pay any attention to the web site!".

Well, why the fuck do you have one then?

Years ago, when I was a kid and on up until the early '90s, there used to be large feed and seed and farm supply stores that would have everything you needed, and would know what to stock at any time of the year.

Those places have gone. And you get crap like Tractor Supply.

From now on, I'm just going to order what I need from Amazon. They will get you just about anything you need, seems like.

I got pretty sick long while back, lost weight, got over it, gained some weight back, got stable, and now I'm trying to build up some muscle, but I'm old and lazy and weak and old and sit in front of a monitor a lot.

So today, rain's over, perfect temperature, no excuses, I finally got started pruning back the shrubs and vines hiding the house - long neglected task. Didn't bother with the power tools, just went at it with the 'crumpers.'

You ever get into a task, and you don't think you've been at it all that long, but then later your body says

So, baby steps.

Which is to say, I've taken my dose of Arnica (placebos are amazing, I do feel better) and I'm going to bed for the next part of the experiment: will I be able to move in the morning?

Damian Lewis does a great job with American accents. He was in the first few seasons of Homeland, and he's currently playing the lead character in Billions.

I heard an interview with him on an NPR show, and he insisted on doing the interview in his TV accent, rather than his native one. He was in the midst of filming episodes of Billions, and didn't want to go through the effort of getting back to his TV accent after conducting the interview in his British accent.

That's how it's supposed to work. Everything has an SKU number, and when the shelves are stocked with SKU 12345, the website is updated to reflect that. And when one is sold, the POS terminal deducts it from inventory. And presumably, when inventory falls below a certain threshold, it triggers an order to bring in more.

He explained that his wife and daughter were at his farm in Wisconsin because the animals needed to be fed and taken care of.

"I just will say we have a working farm. They're there now. There are animals on that farm, that it's an essential function to take care of animals at a farm, so that's what they're doing," he [Pritzker] said.

I guess the animals at the farm just starve when one of the Pritzkers isn't in residence.

488 "can he declare an emergency based on nothing?"

Yes and no. In IL, state agencies can file "emergency rules" that take effect immediately but can't stay in effect more than 150 days (5 months). For permanent rules, the agency has to allow a period of public comment and submit the rules to review by a panel of legislators.

It just so happens that the rules review panel is supposed to meet this Wednesday and they could stop the emergency rules from being enforced if they believe these emergency measures are not justified.

However, the panel has an even number of members (12) evenly divided between both parties. It was constructed that way by law when it was created, to insure that no one party could dominate it. To suspend an emergency rule requires 8 votes (3/5 supermajority). It's pretty much given that all 6 GOP members will vote against these rules but the $64 billion question is whether they can get 2 Dems to also vote against the rules as well.

Where it falls down is when something is shoplifted, or when some eeeediot puts the romex in the paint aisle.

Way back when, I went to Lowes to get one of the first good LED bulbs (the early ones sucked, and the cheap ones still suck).

This was back when they were about $35 apiece.

Website said they had a dozen (or thereabouts) in stock. The shelf was bare. I figured they were valuable enough that they walked out the door on their own.

The one I got from Amazon is still burning, nearly 10 years later. Since it's in a situation where it is a major pain in the ass when it goes out, I consider it money well spent.

I can see one of the questions being raised by Pence (with the help of his staff) in the debates: Did you or did you not lose the governor's race in Georgia? Hilarity will ensue with her non-answer answer.

I think that baggage alone will make her not a viable VP pick. While praise was heaped upon her by the Demotards for her 'resistance', the DNC does actually want to win and the DNC will be picking the VP candidate, not Gropin' Joe, if he is even the candidate come November. With all that's coming out, Tara Reade's credible sexual assault/rape allegation and the unmasking, Slow Joe may be forced by the DNC to not run to spend more time with his criminal family.

609 At some point you will probably hear about Rory Mcilroy bashing Trump on a radio show. In fact, he is playing in a televised match for charity tomorrow. My personal opinion is give him a break tomorrow or better yet ignore him. This thing is for charity and people want to watch some actual live sports. Who cares what this guy said? At least for a day.

We always bash cancel culture and the fact that so many sportsmen are afraid to say something controversial. Now I know many will say, well it is easy to bash Trump and be lefty. That might be the case in the NBA or NFL, but it is not the case for professional golf. Now Rory will do fine in Europe for obvious reasons, but this will likely cause a problem in the USA. Personally, I don't care what he says, he is an entertaining golfer and that is pretty much what I expect from him.

But I mine as well give a tiny bit of context here. Mcilroy always seems to come down on the side of the bitter, angry, caustic, lefties. I don't even know if it is political as much as it is trying to stay out of the cross hairs of the angriest, most bitter and vindictive people out there. But yeah, there is a point when if a person always ends on the lefty side, they are a lefty.

Mcilroy is refreshing in the sense that he does give his opinions. I am not going to fault someone for being real and actually saying something the stands out. But he also seems to always end up on the lefty side after the interwebs bum rush him.

Example number 1. Not many years ago he said "I feel more British than Irish" in an interview. He was lambasted so badly that he decided that even though he is a UK citizen, he would play for Ireland and not the UK, in the Olympics. He gave a pretty much absurd excuse as to why, but the point was he decided to play not for his country, but another one. Now I get Northern Ireland and all of The Troubles are complicated, but still, the guy placated the angriest group, knowing the other guys pretty much would not care. And in the end, he bailed from the Olympics, which made the entire thing much worse because it was a total waste of everyone's time. Who cares who he might play for in theory. He played for no one.

Example number 2. He played golf with president Trump and said he had a good time. He said Trump was gracious to everyone and it was a nice experience. Then, of course, he was lambasted online by the thought gestapo and took a real beating.

And now today we hear he will never play with Trump again and he likely doesn't agree with anything Trump says or does. Well, thanks Rory, thanks for the political insight. I am starting to think you are just bowing to the mob but yes, it always falls the same way. My guess is he is a lib at heart as he always folds to the lib side.

I personally don't want the guy bashed at the course. He is a talented player and it is not for me to enforce ideas. But for whatever reason this stuff goes on with this guy. Hell, Tiger has played with Trump a few times and for some reason he has taken little flak. Jack Niclaus is a proud Trump fan and yet beloved by main stream R and D's. Hell you can find video of Nanny Pelosi praising Nicklaus, there really is no other option.

Rory likes to be opinionated and that is cool. But at some point a duck is a duck. He is a lib, or at least bends to the libs.

I get it is different in Europe and the UK. You can be a conservative and still take a go at the US. But in professional golf, the vast majority are conservatives. You might have to go with professional bull riding to find a more conservative sport. I doubt Rory cares as he is "international". But if he keeps this up, he will get heckled worse than Sergio ever dreamed. I don't like it, but I understand.

So, him saying wouldn't play another round with Trump 'of choice' is a major weenie-ing. Leave me alone, he cucksplains.

If he had actually paid attention to Trump's strategy, he would know "never apologize". Inch, mile, don't give the first.

But I will, going forward, probably root for him less.

Pussy.

623 I have posted on the nicotine issue a few times here. Really there are two stories that I know of. The first is the French test to see if nicotine somehow prevents people from getting the wuflu. I read not long ago that in the msm, the French banned hording of nicotine patches. It was almost as it they wanted a strategic reserve if need be.

The other tobacco related issue was with with a subsidiary of British American Tobacco that focuses on pharmaceuticals called Kentucky Bioprocessing.

Now I have no freaking clue if either of these things are legit or hold any promise at all. But I do know that unfortunately at least half the people who get paid to write on the net do not either. I have only reported what has been reported in the MSM. At this point normals are keeping their options open and hoping to hear of an actual vaccine whether it is derived from tobacco or a hole in the wall.

These kids today... In fairness, it's surprising that as many kids in the U.S. as do actually resist the "training" they've received and learn to think for themselves. I'd imagine the situation in Great Britain is even direr. After all, they went socialist just after WWII (the big one).

that is fair. The guy is opinionated for whatever reason. I gave two examples but there are more I promise you. The key is he always backs down to the left. I still think he is probably a good guy but he is certainly on the left. He is foolish if he thinks even his cohorts are this way, the statistics show otherwise.

I have no problem with someone with their own opinion. But he seems to make a point of getting in these rows. Sooner or later he will be the bad guy of golf if he keeps it up. Look at how the treat Reed and Sergio and they have never mentioned a whiff of politics. Rory is a repeat offender but people want to like him so much it has not caused him many issues to date. This last one I think will be an issue, and that is why I mentioned it to the horde.

629 Speaking of pussies, we have major weenie Shitt Rumblings, UT Senator (Asshole), spewing his latest Trump hate on the 16th:

The firings of multiple Inspectors General is unprecedented; doing so without good cause chills the independence essential to their purpose. It is a threat to accountable democracy and a fissure in the constitutional balance of power.

Unprecedented. Hmmm, I recall seeing that word for 8 years not so long ago.

631 I made Japanese Curry the last two nights. Japanese Curry is really an interesting food item. And I can at least say it was taught to me by an actual Japanese. And trust me, we were a long way from the land of the rising sun.

Anyway, Japanese Curry was introduced to Japan by Brits who served in India. So as an American, I guess i got it fourth hand. It should be mentioned on a CBD food thread as it is that good. There are some really interesting Japanese foods really. They also have a cutlet called Katsu, that is likely European. They are an open society and at the same time a very closed one. That is one unusual place, and for sure that is the case with their food.

632 I also recall a certain stuttering clusterfuck of a miserable failure, in his first year in office, firing an IG (Mr. Gerald Walpin, RIP) for investigating a friend of TFG with very crooked practices in CA.

Mr. Walpin was fired summarily, without giving Congress the required 30 day notice, as required by law.

Laws, shmaws, he said. And paid no price. Trump has given the 30 day notice on every useless leftover TFG eater he's had the privilege to dump.

668 someone mentioned basic training is still going. I didn't think about it but it makes sense. Sure go all crazy but come on now. People still have to serve the country, you can't just fold up shop. I wonder if they require masks or if they are doing daily temperatures. We used to don camo. I guess the mask can help with that.

The thing that sticks out to me is places are doing their thing to flatten the curve. But then there are things that are more important and you do them because you must. For some reason I never thought about basic training during this. But when someone mentioned it was still going on, I thought of course that was the case. Funny no one mentions those guys in those incessant commercials.

677 Took a ride around Philly tonight...yes, I survived. Went past Cheesesteak Central (Pat's & Geno's, the tourist traps), and you would never know that there was a lockdown going on. Hundreds of people, waiting in line, sitting on their cars or the tables eating, hardly any masks, not a care in the world. No cops in sight, either. Went through some of the, er, gentrifying neighborhoods, Utes of all types out and about, smoking weed, drinking 40's.

Get home, put the sports talk radio on, they're talking about how they can convince baseball players to play for less millions while "risking their lives". It's surreal.
