True, but the USSC ruled very expansively that prisoners in Guantanamo had rights even through they never hit US soil. Based on my understanding of the logic of that opinion (admittedly limited), they would likely need to rule that using 3rd parties to skirt legal obligations is also a no-go.

In simple terms when an American citizen's name is picked up incidentally as part of spying on someone else the name is supposed to be kept classified unless there is a specific reason to "unmask" it. It is supposed to be a rare occurrence only used for a specific legal purpose and not just random gathering of names.
That's not what the Obama administration was doing. They were unmasking people constantly and in huge numbers for seemingly no good legal reason.

ODNI: Office of the Director of National Intelligence. Grenell is the current Acting Director of National Intelligence.
Unmasking: when looking at intelligence in which foreign persons or entities are communicating with American citizens, the American's identity is "masked" unless there is some evidence that requires their identity to become known, e.g. they are a part of a terrorist plot or are engaging in espionage. This falls under the intelligence oversight laws that are intended to prevent surveillance of American citizens by three letter agencies like NSA or CIA and the military. That's the nutshell version, but it's more intricate than that.

The law about unmasking things found out about Americans is very explicit.
It says not only who can do it (and contractors are NOT on the list), but also WHY you can do it.
If you unmask, and there is no imminent threat, you have (if I remember from reading the law a couple years ago) 24 hours to use the information, or the identity must be redacted again.

When a US citizen communications are intercepted and they are not the official subject of a warrant the material is reported but not personally identified. Administration officials with high enough security clearances can order the source name "unmasked" or identified, and the material fully revealed (instead of just metadata, if that's the form its in).

You can list an address or phone number or date or other stuff. You can't list a name.
You then receive a listing of all the responses for that query.
With a legitimate investigation form filled out, you can then demand to have the name of the individual associated with the particular line item from you query to be revealed (the unmasking) This demand must be in writing and you must show a legitimate reason to know the name. (such as an ongoing investigation concerning that line item answer from your query.
This is what Rogers found was being done illegitimately by all the queries being done by contractors AND the multiple unmaskings being answered.
this system was supposed to prevent exactly the abuse that the Obama regime was doing.

Other than him, no one in the Aswan crime family was ever charged or convicted of anything.

This was the whole reason Crossfire Hurrican existed and why it was started by Brennan. In order to listen in to Trump campaign staffers, they had to invent a foreign entanglement in order to use FISA. FISA is only supposed to be used when international players are involved. So, you unmask a whole lot of people they have even casual contact with and you start listening in to their phone calls. Yu pick up a lot of inside information that can be used by the rival campaign. This was the whole point of Russia,Russia, Russia.At least, that is the way I understand it and why Brennan had to be at the core as he was CIAand it was a counterintelligence operation.

I'm so sorry grammie. I've been pretty depressed since our vacay was cancelled, and I felt better yesterday than I have during this entire shutdown. Your Social Security benefits will increase fractionally each month past 66 (full retirement age for me - others may be different depending the year you were born). Delay by a full year, your benefit will increase by 8 percent. Delay longer, and so on and so on.

I took it at 62 1/2. The money I s essentially the same until about 79 years of age. It's just spread over more payments.If you live longer than that, you're a winner. My experience in dealing with seniors my entire career is that after age 75 you're not going to want to do much any way, For sure after 80.
Plus, I don't trust the government not to try pulling any fast ones. I'll take my money now, please.
If you think they won't try something just "Remember the Coronavirus".

The is complete and utter horseshit from Powers and anyone who knows how the Governmental systems like Sentinel, Echelon and others systems work, should laugh at that bullshit excuse.
In order to access these systems you need your hard credentials psychically inserted into a keyboard attached to a terminal or computer, without that you cannot even log on, of which you would also have had to have here log on user and password.
And to access any of this externally is multiple levels of security, you cannot just log on and into this shit without many things being set up on the external computer and within the government IT systems and infrastructure.
None of this stuff is forward facing, it's all behind multiple layers of protection and some of this stuff has air gaps if you know what I mean.
This is all bullshit.

These people are cowards first and foremost, remember. With the badge you mentioned, would these contractors actually be able to do the unmasking themselves? If so, we are not living in the country I thought we were, but more to the point, they wouldn't need Power's badge, right?
