Even the State-Sponsored Karen Propaganda Network BBC Admits That Deaths Due to the Lockdown Will Soon Exceed Deaths Due to Covid that the Lockdown Is Intended to Prevent

By the way, Boris Johnson announced a shift from "stay home" to return to work but "stay alert."

The Karens, led by CNN, of course began attacking him.

Boris Johnson has come under fire from UK lawmakers after he was accused of fumbling the move to loosen some parts of the UK's coronavirus lockdown. Politicians are demanding clarity and regional leaders are breaking from Downing Street's message.

The Prime Minister batted back criticism in Parliament on Monday, as his government unveiled its 50-page plan to creep out of lockdown and "rebuild the UK for a world with COVID-19."

Johnson has ditched the nationwide "stay at home" slogan and replaced it with "stay alert," and said in a televised address on Sunday that everyone who was unable to work from home -- such as construction and manufacturing workers -- was now being "actively encouraged" to return to work.

But as the country enters its eighth week under unprecedented social and economic restrictions, his call sparked confusion among many Brits about when and how they can go to work, leave their homes, or socialize.

Johnson urged people to avoid public transport and stay at home if possible, leading to accusations of mixed messages. Leaders in Scotland and Wales meanwhile said they would stick to the "stay at home" message, and London's public transit authority said it would only be able to carry 15% of passengers even after it restores 100% of services.

And Johnson's deputy Dominic Raab muddied the waters further in a round of media interviews on Monday morning when he gave conflicting statements around the size and nature of gatherings that would be permitted between people from different households.

Sound familiar? The same people who say that two million are going to die, no now it's 100,000, wait now it's 70,000...

The same people who told us masks were useless, and also it was critical to save masks for medical personnel because they save lives, and also now that masks are critical for everyone and now mandated by law...

The same people who say we have to lock down just until we "flatten the curve" and then, when the curve has been flattened, announce we must stay in lock down until we have a vaccine...

are accusing other people of not being clear and offering "mixed messages."

At 7:45, an analyst notes that Britain's attempt to craft a rational policy was "blown off course" by gales of chatter from social media and regular media, who were all demanding lockdowns now.

On the plus side, we saw the largest graduating class of medical doctors ever, with about fifty million new M.D.s being minted on Twitter between February 21 and April 30.

A few actual doctors I follow on twitter are pointing out that small kids are not being vaccinated not due to their parents being anti-vax but due to the parents not being able to take the child in to be vaccinated.

This is all so very fine.

29 Will those people who die due to deaths of despair, lack of medical treatment or other lockdown-related factors die of COVID-19?

No, they won't. They'll die because of something else. Therefore, the lockdown worked. More importantly, these knock-on effects are a net benefit because lockdowns have generally been reducing the death rate, leading to surplus population. These other causes of death are nature's way of balancing the response to COVID-19 and maintaining the natural order.

If anything, these findings should be encouraging. As we tackle and target a specific issue, we needn't worry about overstepping and overreacting because natural forces will realign the outcomes.

36 My fear is that the UK will follow through with their INSANE plan to quarantine EVERYONE WHO ENTERS THE COUNTRY -- 14 days mandatory self-quarantine, even applying to Brits returning home.

When this plan leaked over the weekend, the airlines basically said that it will permanently destroy the airline industry in Great Britain. NO ONE would come to the UK for a visit if they were requited to lock themselves indoor for 14 days upon arrival. And also, no Brit would ever leave the UK on a vacation, knowing that upon return they would then lose two weeks of their lives in forced quarantine after returning from overseas.

As a result of the outrage, Boris Johnson, pulled back from that announcement on Sunday, saying only that it was "in the works" and "would happen soon." But it would be his biggest blunder as prime minister if he really does announce this rule.

I care about this because I need to go to the UK sometime over the summer and everything would be ruined by this quarantine insanity.

Considering every single media story seemed to be in his favor with nothing countering his firing you'd think that it would have been a story they would stick with. Let me guess. They went into lockdown so nothing untoward would pop up about the accuser until the House can use it in another round of Impeachment.

You don't know how bad Ferguson's WuFlu model was. Imperial College was shamed into releasing the model and the code. Well, sort of. Ferguson's original code was so bad cosmetically -- one single source file of 15K lines -- they were too ashamed to release it. So they hired a team from Microsoft to clean it up and make a more presentable version.

That is now on Github:

https://github.com/mrc-ide/covid-sim

While MS prettied it up into something presentable, the flaws in the logic are still there. I encourage you to read analyses of it.

It's a pile of steaming dogshit. It's not just GIGO. It's garbage out no matter what is input. As someone said, it's like your digestive tract. Put anything in the input, and shit comes out the output.

79 The same people who say we have to lock down just until we "flatten the curve" and then, when the curve has been flattened, announce we must stay in lock down until we have a vaccine...

There are even more new goalposts, Ace:

Now, the new goalpost int he UK is that the "R" number "must" be "below 1.0."

The "R" number is the esoteric epidemiological statistical pattern of how many people each infected person contaminates. if the R number is exactly 1, then the number of infected people stays constant. If the R number is below 1, then eventually the disease will go away. If the R number is above 1, then it will spread into an epidemic.

Even though in reality one can only calculate in retrospect what the R number was for any infectious disease, after all the data is in, someone Big Left is now announcing with daily updates what the R number currently is, even though there's no way to tell, since by their own admission newly infected people often have no symptoms for up to 5 days. So how in the world could we know whether (as I have seen) the R number "just went from .98 to 1.01 yesterday"? It's absurd.

Basically, they're just using the "R" number as some magical evil bugbear they can wield to scare people into obedience. "Oh noes! The R number just went over 1 again! Everyone must now get a bar code tattooed on their foreheads! Anyone who disobeys is a murderer!"

102 As some of us like to say, as a way to express our cogent argument: Duh!

Look, it's not going to be possible for anyone to accurately measure Lockdown caused deaths, so they can spin this anyway they want. But the general consensus has ALWAYS been, based on hard science, if you cause stress, it will show up in the body in ways that are sometimes predictable, and sometimes not.

So there will be increased heart disease, increased strokes, weight gain, weight loss, suicidal behavior, drug use, and... the one that people don't often see coming, INCREASED RATES OF CANCERS!

So even years from now, when we're seeing people dying in increasing numbers from cancers, including unusual or uncommon cancers, nobody will make this connection.

But it'll be there. It's real, and it's spectacular.

publius with more detail of what I was talking about. Models can be useful and accurate - but of course it depends on how they're built, what they're modeling (do we understand the workings of the thing being modeled), etc. In other words - common sense.

Models of C-19 using standard epidemiological assumptions would yield ..... pretty much what we're seeing: classic epidemic graphs, sharp initial increase, longer sloping right shoulder as cases decline. The curves for the UK in particular are right out of epidemiology textbooks - but actually they'll be that way because ..... um, that's how viral repiratory epidemics *always* proceed?

It came up in conversation at work in the Before Times that some magazine surveyed men and found that "New Jersey" was the sexiest accent. Some coworkers were talking about it and how they just don't get it.

One of my colleagues is this very severe guy from Long Island and New Jersey. He has a pretty noticeable accent, but he can really ham it up when he wants to. He is also hilarious, but most people don't know it because they're afraid of him.

During that discussion between other coworkers, he stands up and says - loudly - "What? This isn't sexy to you? This isn't turning you on?" He put on his ultra-thick Long Island accent for it.

They got real quiet and nervous until he started laughing...

3) Ship the illegals home. The government has the capability, has had it since the 50s, just no desire to do so to this point.

We weren't even at full capacity during WWII.

Civilians could still buy basic goods including meat and gasoline. Granted it was rationed but it was nowhere near what Germany, Japan and others saw during the War.

We didn't conscript 14 year olds and give them hand grenades or Panzerfausts and send them to fight the enemy.

Things were starting to get tight but we still had some serious wiggle room where we could have expanded when other Countries could not.

Vietnam would've been tough. Marines and infantry gained a lot of tough experience in the Pacific theater, but bombing the north with B-17s, 24s, and even 29s would've been ghastly (for us), and I don't think we had combat-ready choppers at that point. We actually did use B-29s and Mustangs in the opening stages of Korea, since we had them, but jet-powered aircraft was the norm by 1950 for anyone with significant military pretensions.

363 US was estimated to be at high but not total industrial mobilization at end of WWII (actually shipbuilding had been "switched" off well before, as time-lines and capacity meant we already were slated to have an enormous fleet - and we did, and some of those ships are *still* serving in navies around the world today - that's how many we built). Aircraft production wasn't really stopped til victory - it was at truly unbelievable levels by August 15 1945.

Manpower was different. There was a "manpower crisis" in spring of '45. Draft call was *doubled* in March. All about invading Japan. There was tension about it as early as late '44. Battle of the Bulge resulted in several divisions created expressly for Japan operations being shipped to ETO.

One of the zillion reasons that the standard talk of "going to Moscow" after German surrender is idiotic - it bears no relation not just to the politics and goals of the US at the time, but also no relation to military realities.

And no US military adversary since WWII has survived if their elimination was actually our objective, regardless of ROE. Not a military question, one of goals and policy.

364 I can't watch network TV period. It immediately makes my skin crawl.

My mother, bless her, asked me to watch some kid do some trick on some stupid NBC show hosted by Melissa McCarthy.

There was something about every frame of it that gave me the heebie jeebies. I didn't pre-judge it. It just came on and I was boiling from how phony and condescending it was.

And wouldn't you know, following that kid was some 11 year old who had "transitioned", wearing rainbow glasses and accompanied by two miniature American Flags (remember those?) and lecturing everyone on how not to "hate". It was so phony and sulfuric.

376 Models can be useful and accurate - but of course it depends on how they're built, what they're modeling (do we understand the workings of the thing being modeled), etc. In other words - common sense.

A model is ... a model. It's an effort to abstract and represent some aspect of reality, but of course it cannot represent other aspects of reality. If it represented all aspects, it wouldn't be a model any more; it would be the reality.

So the question is what aspects does it fail to represent? And under what circumstances does it fail to represent aspects that under others it successfully represents?

The problem with modelers generally (in my experience) is hubris; they believe their models cannot be wrong, and sometimes even question data that conflict with their models, rather than the other way around. This type of thinking has been termed "marrying your hypothesis," and modelers are very prone to it.

415 Jay with the perfect take on modeling.

I've been wondering here and elsewhere, out loud, about what the task force and Trump/inner circle were seeing/hearing about projections, at least since mid-April.

No "Team B"? Any real discussion and contention about the projections? They were revised down, radically, at one point (and still were wrong).

Which is actually less central than the other thing I've been asking about - if this is an endemic virus (narrator: it almost certainly is), then what does almost *any* part of the "phased" guidance and many state-level strategies have to do with any rational goal?

Protecting the (very small) vulnerable groups, getting a good estimate of total infection rate ASAP, and crashing on treatment/therapy would be the obvious priorities. "Lockdowns" and non-symptomatic diagnostic testing, and almost all "tracing", would be irrelevant (as they seem to be, to me).

As there is no press, and the WH has not opened the kimono on the process at all, we are left not knowing. Are these issues being openly debated?

I think the general consensus is that Trump can pull the trigger on this coronovirus operation any time he wants (just like spygate) but he wants the average person to see for himself what lengths the bad guys will go to.
Would most of the country have believed spygate 2 years ago? We would, but we're not most of the country.

435 It's hard for the single entrepreneur/inventor not to have his small /simple product be made in China.

1. The "lockdown" was never about saving lives, just reducing stress on the hospital system - people are going to keep dying, especially if we open

2. All of the lost lives are Trump's fault

If you can square that circle, consult your doctor.

439 289 The media are lying about the case in Georgia. I know nothing of the particulars but I know they're lying because A. Their mouths are open and B. There is no other way to get "us" to talk about it.

There is one way to get the media to quit talking about it, and ONLY one. That is for all of us to say, yes, this was a blatant felony murder, and allow William Barr to appoint someone to investigate the local DA who tried to get these two off. Once we do that, they'll forget about it. And I say that, because as I've been posting, the shooter and his father are guilty as hell, and there's no saving them. We serve no good purpose by jumping on their sinking ship.

Posted by: jwest at May 11, 2020 03:10 PM (mrrpT)

You don't understand the charge of Felony Murder. "Progressive" states have dropped it, because it is very harsh, but most southern states still have it, including Georgia. I know there's a nood, but on the chance you're still looking, it's best illustrated by a case in Oklahoma a couple years back.

You may remember that a twenty something girl recruited two of her teen boy friends to burglarize what they thought were rich people's houses. She drove them to a house, they broke in, but the owners grandson was there and came down the stairs with an AR-16. After a brief confrontation , he shot them both to death.

The shooter was NOT charged with anything, because self defense. He was facing two burglars inside his house. The girl in the car, however - and remember, she never intended to harm anyone, she never touched a weapon, she wasn't even in the house when the shootings happened - SHE was tried and convicted of TWO counts of Felony Murder, for the deaths of her two friends. She's in the Oklahoma State Prison today, and will be there for quite a while.

If you are committing a felony, and ANYONE dies for ANY REASON out of the chain of events you started, then you are guilty of Felony Murder. It is a harsh, harsh law. All the DA needs for conviction is to point to a body, and point out your involvement.,

In the Georgia case, the Felony was Aggravated Assault when they used a gun to try and detain Arbery on the road.
