Sunset and moonrise, beautiful.

Great! Another Kroyer painting! We've had several by him and they have all been delightful. The outstanding feature for me is how effectively he uses light to set the mood of the piece and how he varies the colors to suit that light.
This one has the gentle, blended colors of evening with the northern light and moonlight making a soft, quiet world to take a stroll. Everything is calm and relaxed. It is a pleasant scene that I would love to have on my wall. Thanks, CBD. What a lovely painting to end the week with. Posted by: JTB at May 22, 2020 09:41 AM (7EjX1) 73

Posted by: Robert Plant at May 22, 2020 10:32 AM (fYH8e) +++++++++ There was a story about WWII where the Americans and the Brits were planning the invasion and the British had "Hedgerows" marked on their maps of France. The Americans took note of it but didn't really consider it much. When they got there, they found that they needed prioritize flame throwers to cut through them, because their planned approach of machetes or just driving tanks through them didn't pan out. Turns out, ancient French hedgerows are more like dense forests that you can't really get through. Apparently the English said something to the effect of, "we were curious why you weren't worried, but we figured you knew what we meant by "hedgerow." @335 There was an official version of what the Fifties were all about, taught in lower-level college courses in the Seventies. Fat Lazy America mythos comes directly from that imagery. Everything was great, except Racism.
I cut my teeth arguing against that. I had real clear memories of life in the Fifties -- I had been paying attention. Stirred things up in some areas. Land war in Asia? Sure. Major, major changes in race relations, enough to make most people think the old problems were almost over and done with, and all we had to was hang in there a few more years? Yep. Communists everywhere in public education, government, the entertainment business, movies and rock'n'roll? Can't be denied. That was not the collegiate version. Funny thing was, much like swipes at Trump now, there was no particular reason for all this revised history to even appear in most of the course material. It was almost as if many text writers or course planners had something big to get off their collective chests. About 50 years ago. Posted by: Way, Way Downriver at May 22, 2020 10:47 AM (8IOEj) 450

The dims know Biden is gonna lose.
They are just using everything at their disposal, including pollsters and MSM, to keep the house and maybe takeover the Senate. If the Senate goes to 50-50, you will witness Mitt's inner "Jim Jeffords" emerge. ----------- While I believe that to be the outcome, I'm not sure how having someone so weak at the top of the ticket helps. Regardless, a 50/50 Senate would not be ideal ... for the reasons you lay out. But when it comes to an RBG replacement, you probably need a 54+ Senate majority to account for defections, which I would expect more of than with Kavanaugh as he didn't completely alter the balance of the Court. Right now, that looks like it may not be possible. But if Trump wins "bigger" than he did in 2016, he is going to pull some Republican Senators into the win column. Tomorrow, I shall go up to my farm in the Ozarks. There I will set up my range and fire the first shots from a custom rifle I just finished. It started out as a Polish built M-44 tanker rifle. Mosin-Nagant actually. 20" barrel. Manufactured the year I was born and placed into arsenal storage and never issued. Sold as surplus and fell into my hands. I ordered an extended laminated stock for it and carved and fitted the barreled action to it. I machined off the bayonet hardware. Shipped the bolt off and had a turn down bolt welded on. The stock is full length Mannlicher style with a steel endcap I fabricated from a rough steel casting. The action if full length glass bedded. Timney adjustable trigger with built in safety. Rust blued barreled action and accessories. Hand checkered with butt plate and pistol grip cap. Finished off with 15 hand rubbed coats of tru-oil. Burris Light Magnum scope. 8.6 pounds.
I am expecting good performance. Posted by: Xipe Totec at May 22, 2020 10:53 AM (o2MD2) 480

Posted by: Ghost Of Qassem Soleimani at May 22, 2020 10:49 AM (WY3eo) I'm not sure what that means, but it's worth noting, I believe the kill shot RFK took was not the first round that hit him. That was a head shot he probably could have survived... however, had he survived, he would have had his brain scrambled so badly, he probably would be unable to speak or keep his own drawers from filling with poop. Also worth noting, there's enough credible evidence out there, the ONLY shot Sirhan Sirhan hit Kennedy with... was the first one. There were other weapons discharged that day. So who made the kill shot? They ain't sayin'. I assume it was a jumble of local cops and FBI who did the investigation, and ballistics were never properly done... Or they were, and it was simply covered up. Posted by: BurtTC at May 22, 2020 11:02 AM (hku12) 533

Comedy: Dr. Richard Levine is a freakishly ridiculous-looking man pretending to be a woman Tragedy: Dr. Richard Levine is an incompetent ideological-hack physician who pulled his own mother out of a nursing home while continuing an ongoing policy of sending COVID-positive elderly back among the vulnerable in senior-care facilities resulting in thousands of deaths. I can't even imagine if I'd have taken my life
savings and invested in a business (which I've done more than once), gotten it up and running, only to have it shut down and watch it all go away. THIS while big-box stores get to stay open for no particular reason. Yeah, if I had a few mouths to feed and hit rock bottom and saw no way to claw my way back out because of government edict? I don't know. I'm blessed at how my situation worked out before this all came down, because I'd very likely be there. Posted by: clutch cargo at May 22, 2020 10:51 AM --- I did my Quartermaster report for last nights meeting at the VFW. In two months we ran -$7,500. Most of that was insurance and utility bills from the preceding month before we shut down. But we have had zero income for two months. If we had known at the time of the initial shut down this was going to last 60 days, I would have turned everything off but we kept getting "hints" of #two more weeks so we left everything going in hope of starting back up sooner than today. We open the doors at noon and I have no idea what to expect, but I have to have two bartenders and no one can sit at the bar, table service only. And we went through all of this $hit for a death rate that is less than half of a weak flu season. Posted by: Mr. Scott (Formerly GWS) at May 22, 2020 11:05 AM (JUOKG) 552

The China lady bat doctor worked in that lab, and she PUBLISHED articles talking about how she was making coronaviruses that were more easily infectious to humans. Word is, she was splicing in HIV proteins to make this virus bind more easily to human cells. After the outbreak, she's been pretty much disappeared, and her "research" has been scrubbed from the China sites on which it had been previously touted. But it still exists. Like any good detective would tell you though, you can't just speculate about these things, no matter how logical it is. If you can't get in that lab, BEFORE it's been scrubbed clean of evidence, or otherwise contaminated, there's probably no way to prove it was her virus manipulation that caused all this. Among some of the other ways people tend to over-idealize the 50s, they either forget or never realized, baseball was dying in the 50s. The monopoly New York had on the game was NOT good, and the eventual moves by the Giants and Dodgers, not to the number of other teams moving around during that decade, was due to fan indifference.

The trend had been going this way but then there was pushback as too many people were vanishing and not responding from their remote locations. Managing remote workers is really hard. Remote work is great in many ways but has massive drawbacks. The constant "loyalty test" to see how fast you respond to boss's messages, reaching out at all hours with work requests, the Expectation of Constant Connectivity No Matter What can be far more stressful than navigating a little traffic with coffee and Sirius radio.
