Welp my brand new alternator (installed about a month ago) with less than 400 miles threw its bearing about 100 miles away from home. Thankfully the truck is parked in my friend's dad's driveway - but it's two hours away - and its a brand new alternator (not a reman).
Added up some of the costs on this truck and over a year and a half of ownership I'm at $150k.
For my dream car its really at nightmare status. Did get to do some pretty fun offroading yesterday though.

If it wasn't for the fact that the thrown bearing made the pull shred the belt, I would drive until the computer stopped working. It's got dual batteries and it's a turbo diesel.
Yeah, it's a lot. I'm an emotional idiot when it comes to this thing. I fire the parts cannon at it expecting things to get better but it just keeps breaking.

Lovely day here yesterday. 74 degrees and light clouds. Worked for about 3 hours getting 2/3rds of the deck power washed. Then we had SIL, niece and her husband over for properly spaced pizza and adult beverages.

We call those "Cow Killers" around here OSP. Years ago when I had a computer store, we had a cartoon one for a mascot. It was on our sign and business cards. That was back when Gateway used the cow motif for their ads and packaging, so we sold "Cow Killers".

I've feed my aunts (the insect kind) enough poison that they have developed an immunity to it I think. They feed like crazy on it when I put a fresh feeder out of Terro, but come back for more.Might learn something from this, the human body does develop an immunity to something if you are around it long enough.

Anybody else having some extreme delays and vanishing deliveries with USPS? I have a delivery from a vendor that's listed as "Pre-Shipment Info Sent to USPS, USPS Awaiting Item" since the 22nd, and a small package from mom listed as "In Transit to Next Facility" since the 26th. The vendor says they shipped the first one.

I am glad my state tends to not have extreme animals and insects such as those with the prenom, "murder" The state I was born in has pretty much every killer everything and crazy weather like golf ball hail and tornadoes to boot. Then when you throw in burrs, you have a lot going on. That builds character I guess.
The scariest insect I know of is the cow killer ant. They were big and furry too but pretty much indestructable. We would encounter them in Columbus GA while hanging out in the bush. These things would not go down if you slammed them with an m-16 butt. But luckily they usually traveled alone, they were rogues.

Here in the Bluegrass we have "Red Wasps." They're kind of like normal black wasps, but have a slight reddish hue. Some call them "Mud Daubers" because they make these smallish nests that look like they were made from mud, then dried.
One stung me on my foot Tuesday. It still hurts today.

Also, last week Mrs f'd saw in the obits that our UPS guy died suddenly. He was probably mid 40s. It didn't say what happened though, but probably not the flu because it happened overnight.

I have a niece in a nursing home close to death. She is retarded and in her mid 50's. (They have a relativity short life span) Her lungs are failing and they have withdrawn the feeding tubes. I'd bet she will be recorded as a COV-19 death even though she tests negative for the virus.

I've had them survive the washer and dryer. One fall up north, we put one in a glass jar, tightly covered. Left it in the cabin over the winter. (No heat). The next year it was still alive.

There should be a thread on the really stupid pc changes to terms such as mail man. Mail Man is not the worst, letter carrier is ok I guess but still dumb. To me, letter carrier is a more demeaning term.

Thanks for the prayers for my niece. She has had a loving full life, many years in a group home in the country. No big city, but a small town nursing home now. They are using an Ipad so relatives can see her, and other loved ones. I hope more nursing homes are doing this.

It makes no sense to ask someone what gender they are. At least if you asked that a few decades ago many would wonder what you are talking about. They won that one, one of many.

If anything I am seeing fewer and fewer wearing masks and social distancing. For sure fewer are wearing masks other than the service industry. I still am wearing a bandana because it is respectful to others, might save me, and it is a change of pace after a all these decades. There is something amusing about wearing a bandana, a low hat and getting plaudits when you enter a store late at night. It is a weird world.
But if I get in an elevator, I am pretty much the only one wearing one. I think a lot of people are tired of this crap.

My father in law, rest his soul, was a brilliant immunologist PhD. He was a scientist at Burroughs Wellcome and was pivotal in the development of AZT.
He interacted a lot with Fauci professionally. I was at Wegman's on Thursday and I noticed they had a lady watching as people entered the store. She looked very unhappy being the store monitor.She was gone when I left later. At least they didn't have arrows on the isles, and everyone looks the same when wearing a mask of some sort. Got to be hard on young guys looking for a pick up. lets see do I like the blue or black masked girl, or the one with poke a dot.

Well, one good thing this week, other than finishing a scene that was giving me writing trouble - as some of you know, I'd had problems with the MA unemployment office telling me I had not made enough money last year to qualify for benefits, but that got solved when they realized I'd filed for regular unemployment, not Kung Flu unemployment.
Got my last month's checks all at once. Then, yesterday, got another e-mail saying I hadn't made enough money. Checked into my online account and couldn't find any place to claim benefits.
Was all ready to spend hours on the phone tomorrow, but before coming here this morning, decided to check on-line one more time.
Bingo - now there's a little "action item" telling me to file a claim for last week so I can get my Kung Flu money.

I dunno, there's probably a chance of reclaiming the military by excising all of the officer class and restocking those ranks from the senior NCO's.
The military has always had its bureaucracy and politics - I'm not assailing the men and women in uniform.
The military is just one gargantuan budget expense. It hasn't been used for legitimate national security since we had the Department of War and I'm at the point I don't know what the military would defend us against.
It sure isn't freedom and liberty because I can't think of any sovereign government right now that would have a more oppressive, corrupt, tyrannical government that what we are experiencing Right Now, and what many are hoping that we will have tomorrow.

A great site to visit on YT is "The Wolfepit" . He reviews lots and lots of fast food meals for the reader. Republicans control the House in PA, WI, MI.
Republicans control the Senate in MN
Only in NV does the dems control both houses.
So, only if the Republicans roll over will it happen. Even token opposition will delay this until it's too late to print.
Medium opposition and it's litigated to the Supreme Court until next year.
Quit worrying about that.

Voter ID is "racist" dontchaknow. And I was attacked on Twitter a week or so ago for daring to say that mail-in voting was rife with fraud.
So the game this fall is the blue-state governors where Trump won in 16 (Michigan, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin) or would likely win in 20 (Minnesota, Nevada, Colorado) are going to use the virus as an excuse to implement fraudulent mail-in voting and hand their states' electoral votes to Biden.

I don't know what a murder hornet does, But I saw really pretty red and black ant. I decided to pick it up and look at it. It looked like velvet. It proceeded to sting the shit out of me.

Had one of those in my house, once. That was my opportunity to tell my kids that if something in nature is brightly colored, it either tastes really bad to predators, or will sting the shit out of you. Maybe I should have told you, instead.

The ban issued Friday covers some 1,500 models and variants of what the government considers assault-style firearms, meaning they cannot be legally used, sold or imported, starting immediately.
The list includes the popular AR-15 rifle and the Ruger Mini-14 used to kill 14 women at Montreal's Ecole Polytechnique in 1989.
"Today we are closing the market for military-grade assault weapons in Canada," Prime Minister Justin Trudeau told a news conference.
