| The Morning Rant: Minimalist Edition![]() In a world where sexual harassment allegations regularly dominate news coverage and in which fifty-three percent of white women voted for Donald Trump, F-Bomb presents an urgent and necessary discussion on women’s lives today. Everywhere we turn, there’s evidence anti-feminist bombs have exploded, sometimes detonated by the unlikeliest suspects. Between women who say they don’t need feminism and women who can’t agree on what feminism should be, the challenges of fighting for gender equality have never been greater. The unexamined assumption that feminism in all its forms is a good thing but maybe not for everyone (oh, that's so generous!) is what really fascinates me. Sorry ladies, but feminism is not like gravity...it ain't the law. Nor is some ethereal "gender equality" goal. Besides, what does that mean? That I have the right to give birth? Or maybe it means that women have the right to work in dangerous industries and die as a result of their employment at the same rate as men. Or even that women should no longer assume primacy in all dealings with family courts and custody hearings and child support and alimony and... Oops! Did I just assume something there? Probably, but since I have no idea what "gender" means to these hyper-partisan, ignorant hacks I probably did. I hope I offended someone, somewhere. Comments(Jump to bottom of page)1

Orphan Black is a Canadian science fiction thriller television series created by screenwriter Graeme Manson and director John Fawcett, starring Tatiana Maslany as several clones. The series focuses on Sarah Manning, a woman who assumes the identity of one of her fellow clones, Elizabeth Childs, after witnessing Childs' suicide. The series raises issues about the moral and ethical implications of human cloning and its effect on identity.[1]

Perfect equity of outcome - even if it were possible - is a nightmare scenario, probably for most people and certainly for all women. They need to pick up the slack on workplace deaths need to give men some of those extra years they live.
No one wants equity. Everyone wants advantage. Movements like modern feminism and its various post-modern cousins seek to institutionalize those advantages. They just lie about the motivation and outcome. Nothing more. Posted by: Joe Mannix (Not a cop!) at May 05, 2020 11:11 AM (hYcqw) 50

On the other hand, the poor thing literally can't think past the next two news cycles to realize that books have a longer life span than 14 days on the shelves (if they're any good), and therefore maybe she ought to try to appeal to a wider audience or not tie it to a president she probably think will be voted out in favour of... THIS If one says they are not a feminist, you get, "What, you don't support women's equality?!" HOWEVER, if you gander at what today's feminists identify as their biggest gripes/injustices, it has absolutely nothing to do with equality - it's about free abortion up to and beyond delivery, a woman having the ability to redefine a sexual encounter as non-consensual hours, day, weeks, months, years decades after the fact, it's about a myriad of ways one can hate men and the nuclear family, hating all things GOP and Christian, and so on. My wife watches trashy TV a little, specifically 90 day finacee. There's apparently some dude that makes a living in Russia or some Euro country telling women who can't find a husband to be real women. He's cheesy as hell, and a little over the top with the barefoot-and-pregnant-in-the-kitchen stuff, but it's obviously a message that needs to get out. If this wanker can make women pay him to tell them to be regular, normal women and not some bullshit feminazi version of a man with a vag, there's obviously a counter-market for a message opposite of this book. Non-essential businesses including hair salons and gyms were allowed to reopen there with social distancing guidelines starting Friday, May 1. 27 Orphan Black is a Canadian science fiction thriller television series created by screenwriter Graeme Manson and director John Fawcett, starring Tatiana Maslany as several clones. The series focuses on Sarah Manning, a woman who assumes the identity of one of her fellow clones, Elizabeth Childs, after witnessing Childs' suicide. The series raises issues about the moral and ethical implications of human cloning and its effect on identity.[1]

Posted by: TheJamesMadison, back to random thoughts at May 05, 2020 11:23 AM (UWqZJ) ++++++++++++ This is akin to the one conversation I still remember from my many meetings with my history academic advisor in college. He was the chair of the department and had a nice library in his office. One day when we were meeting, I noticed that he had a volume by Paul Johnson and he is a historian I like. I asked my advisor what he thought about Johnson. His response was, "He's fine. He doesn't do anything particularly innovative, but he's fine." By my thought, "innovation" in the study of history can really only mean one of three things: 1) You crack a dead language and open up new primary source material 2) You identify a way to find additional primary source material that no one thought of before 3) You're torturing the facts to match your prejudices, or just making shit up Be very wary of "innovation" in history. Characters need depth to be interesting. And there's always the need to show instead of tell, and most writers don't have the ability or understanding to do that. _______________ Hey, just because Project 1619 is factually wrong and historically inaccurate doesn't mean that it isn't great writing! In writing about history, one's passion for depicting oneself as a perpetual victim of raaaaaacism, and depicting all white people as vicious raaaaaacists and all non-white people as noble and fine and super-human and the ones secretly responsible for creating everything of value in the world, is what's really important! The fatal flaw at the heart of the "1619" projects is, that the United States did not exist, the first permanent settlement wouldn't take place until 20 or so years later.
And the world was controlled and fought over by the British, Dutch, Spanish and French. And slavery was imposed on the colonies, not generated by the colonies. So if there is a beef, take it up with the world powers of the time. Also... Fun Fact: There are very few people that can trace their lineage all the way back to the founding and the vast overwhelming majority of people that now inhabit America, their families arrived in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, well after slavery had ended and have zero connection to it. The unexamined assumption that feminism in all its forms is a good thing
LOL. A state legislator in Oregon is in trouble. Diego Hernandez grew up in Portland, got a college degree (in political science and ethnic studies, of course), taught briefly, and got elected to the Oregon House at age 29. In the legislature, he has pursued the usual causes - drivers licenses for illegals, lowering the voting age to 16, etc., and was perceived as having a promising career as a Professional Hispanic. He also likes the ladies. He first came to prominence because he allegedly kept a list of female lobbyists in the state capital ranking them in order of attractiveness. Horrors! It was shocking to learn that 1) heterosexual males rank females in order of attractiveness, and 2) that female lobbyists are frequently hired on the basis of their looks. The legislature investigated this (really) and deemed this not proven. Well recently, an ex-girlfriend (his predecessor in the legislature, ironically) filed a restraining order against him. Apparently he liked to yell at her, and was in the habit of occasionally taking narcotics. They patched things up, and ex-girlfriend withdrew the complaint. Now there is a new accusation - seven anyonomous women have now formally accused him of harassment, and the legislature is investigating. Not quite Harvey Weinstein territory: The alleged harassment was both verbal and physical - it involved touching - said Jackie Sandmeyer, the interim legislative equity officer, during a virtual hearing of the House special committee. The head of the Oregon House Democrats has demanded that Hernandez resign, in advance of the investigation. The subtext is this: the head of the Oregon House Democrats demanding Hernandez's resignation is a lesbian, and Jackie Sandmeyer, "the interim legislative equity officer" refers to herself as "they", has a very short haircut, and likes to wear tailored suits. She's a villain straight out of an Ayn Rand novel, and I'm sure that she has absolutely no bias against male heterosexuals. /s Obviously, I can't stand the guy's politics, but I hope he stands tough - the primary election is this month, and he has no opponent, and it is a safe Democratic district. This appears to be a palpable railroading of someone for being a male heterosexual by people who hate male heterosexuals. Bonus points if he claims that he is being discriminated against for his macho Hispanic culture, which has the advantage of being true. Equality in mathematics is well-formed.
"Equality" of people is anything but well-formed. It's not even empiric. All fundamental naturalists should eschew the idea of "equality" as not really evidenced in nature, and yet something we overlay onto nature. (As perhaps part of our "divine spark"/image of God nature, which has no role in naturalism.) As it is not an empiric quality in beings whose total definition is only found empirically (a harder take on Sartre), there is really no such thing as "equality" outside of a system that is universal because it is abstracted from every detail. Women head anti-feminist PR campaigns; they support anti-feminist politicians; they're behind more than 70 lawsuits across North America to silence the victims of campus rape; they participated in Gamergate, the violent, vitriolic anti-women-in-technology movement; and they're on the front lines of the fight to end reproductive rights. . . F-Bomb takes readers on a witty, insightful, and deeply fascinating journey into today's anti-feminist universe as investigative journalist and feminist Lauren McKeon explores generational attitudes, debates over inclusiveness, and differing views on the intersection of race, class, and gender. She asks the uncomfortable question: If women aren't connecting with feminism, what's wrong with it? And she confronts the difficult truth: For gender equality to prevail, we first need to understand where feminism has gone wrong and where it can go from here. Why aren't other women buying into our feminist agendaaaaaa? Posted by: Lizzy at May 05, 2020 11:47 AM (bDqIh) 247

So, of course, there would be differences in our takes on "gender equality". And the different takes would result in different weights in people's lives.
And it's stupid to say "gender equality" when you blame one sex, associated to one gender, for all the "inequality" in the world. The facts, as stated, observe this unequal distribution of "bad will" if you will. Taken as natural, it could be seen as nature expressing different genes. Taken as intentional, it is no less a statement of "gender differences". What you are really saying is that there OUGHT to be something resembling more of an "equality" among sexes (genders). And then it should be noted that Naturalistically, OUGHT never created anything in Nature. Ironically enough, Alanis, I've been trying to re-read The Fountainhead. Ugh. Talk about characters who describe their inner motivations...on every single page. About as subtle as a drill instructor.
Ayn Rand had her limitations as a novelist, but she nailed the essence of the left-wing political class in Atlas Shrugged. Dad's side of the family came from Ireland in the late 1840s (potato famine time). Mostly factory workers in Ohio ever since. Mom's side came from Durango in 1910. My great-great-grandfather worked for the railroad in Mexico and owned a small silver mine in the mountains. Saw the Revolution coming against Diaz, and sent his kids north to family in El Paso to wait it out. Died about 3 weeks later when Pancho Villa's men went on a rampage through Durango. GGGF was checking on the mine when the banditos came through. According to family lore, it was Villa himself that shot him, but that's actually bullshit, Villa was up north in Chihuahua when the raid happened. Other stories was that the GGGF was gutshot in the gunfight and barricaded himself in the mine, bleeding out a day later. Posted by: IllTemperedCur at May 05, 2020 12:09 PM (EGyGV) 345

I remember reading of one study that "Proved" the more people died as temperatures got higher over time. But when you looked at the study, it was of some Norwegian coastal village from the 1940's to the 1960's, and average summer temperatures had gone from 64 degrees F to 66 degrees F. Oh and the local economy had cratered so all of the young people moved away and it became a town of only old people.

391 What the he'll is CiNC doing bailing out these Blue States? To make things more stupid he's now asking them to follow the law and not be sanctuary cities. Is t that already illegal?
So bribe them to...follow the law? WTF Posted by: Hesco Gypsy, staring from 457 meters at May 05, 2020 12:20 PM (OvKdi) So, we criticize companies that ask for bailout money when they did things that companies ordinarily do, like buy back stock or give dividends to shareholders and had to lay off employees, yet the state governments expect to be fully compensated for idiotic boondoggles like bullet trains connecting LA and SF, sinkhole green initiatives and general fiscal mismanagement? Government caused this recession. Even companies that bought back stock to prop up share prices did nothing legally wrong (they can't save the money for a rainy day, for instance), and they suffered anyway. Government employees didn't miss one paycheck, or suffer one layoff, and we're supposed to write them a blank check to cover all their mistakes, no questions asked? So they can tell the idiots that keep voting them into office that we won't raise your taxes this time, but keep supporting the policies that got us in deep fiscal trouble in the first place? Time to draw a line in the sand. The War Turtle was right when he said that bankruptcy is always an option for these states. Concur with the Horde on Orphan Black. It started out great for a season or three, then turned into mostly junk because of all the SJW crap larded onto it. I suppose I could have gotten past the terribly one-sided characters if the show itself hadn't gotten a bit stale. It seemed like the runners didn't expect it to keep getting picked up, so the writers had to start inventing new quests for Sarah to go on. Tatiana Maslany is very, very good as all the various clones. Michael Mando ("Nacho" in Better Call Saul, and...for ubernerds like me..."Vaas" in Far Cry 3) is in it, too. He's just great, as always. But Jordan Gavaris as Sarah's brother Felix, is just over the top terrific. Really funny character well played. I give it a 6 out of my 10 thumbs.
