And another thing...don't pay any attention to the arrant bullshit being flung about by the ignorant, jingoistic, profoundly biased media...we are testing for Sino-Lung-Rot on an almost unbelievable scale. According to these data, we have performed almost 7,000,000 tests, far more than any other country. And when one considers that we have a far less dense population compared to other hard-hit countries (I am ignoring the data from Russia because I don't believe anything they say), and vast reaches of America that have very little Kung Flu, it is even more impressive. Those tests, especially the ones done in NYC indicate a very high level of previous infection...on the order of 20%+. Even assuming that the numbers in NYC are significantly more than the rest of the country (let us assume 5x more), the death rate drops to 0.5%, which sounds suspiciously like a bad flu season. You know, like the really bad one in 1968 that killed 100,000 Americans (or 165,000 if corrected for our current population). Does anyone remember 1968? Did we shut down the country?

In Texas daily testing is going up be about 25k to 30k test per day. We are finding about 1000 to 12000 new cases.

Listening to the radio today and there seems to be a surge in New Age-ish touchy-feely therapists and counselors the like helping us guide us through this tragedy and grief, adjust to the new reality and inform this has been great opportunity to get in tough with what is important and find ourselves or something.

There was a State Police boat puttering along on Lake Hopatcong this morning. There aren't any speed limits or no-wake zones at this end of the lake and it wasn't going fast enough to go rescue somebody so I wondered what it was doing.

And how those lawsuits turn out may be the 'test' of whether our Constitution is still in force, or not.
Because it boils down to a basic question, can you write a law that says a Mayor can give order which take away your Civil Rights? That over ride your Rights, in order to keep you 'safe'?
And I'll wager the Courts will side with existing law, which says yes.

As if the loss of freedom, prosperity and having the new normal shoved down our throat wasn't bad enough. More likely than not, in the next six months to a year, we'll see an increase in diseases of the heart, lungs, liver, pancreas, etc... we'll see strokes and strange cancers popping up. Nobody will know why.
As if no one has ever heard of stress, and the effects of stress on the body.
So any horseshit "therapist" who is recommending more introspection during these times is probably not qualified to treat a budgie.

And its not because people are not sick, its because of a combination of Fear of this flu, and the Government ORDERING Hospitals not to perform much of their business.

I was outside working earlier today and these people 4 houses down came out of their house wearing masks. People were willing to give it a bit of time, let scientific/medical community get a grip, but now, as numbers are visibly declining, hospitals are not overwhelmed (the opposite) and the only ones affected are old with "co-morbidity" factors, they see their mayors and governors greet this good news by tightening restrictions instead of moving the other way.

and got something out of it and the other just stood there in the

I'm 76, Mr. Empire is 80, and we both have co-morbidities. The only reason we aren't out and around as usual (maskless) is that the car has a "morbidity" that could leave us in need of a tow truck. Once that's taken care of, we'll be back to normal.

QuietMan, again, death data are subject to lags, only a few states are providing date-of-death data, as opposed to just numbers, which get dumped into the system in line with varying mechanics by state (death certificate process, etc). So IL's #s probably continue to be reported that way, and any apparent timing is a coincidence.

Well, thanks to all of this I'm pretty well working from home until September. NoVA schools are closed for the remainder of the school year, and the lady who took care of my youngest before school has been forced to move because of all this - no work here for her.

Everybody keeps assuming there will be a vaccine. My reading has indicated that this is problematic. Creation will be difficult and will not guarantee success. If it is eventually constructed, it will not be a chicken pox type that provides excellent defense but will mimic the effect of the flu vaccine. Symptoms may not be as bad for most people but it will still cause major issues for people in current risk groups.
We cannot wait this one out huddling in safe space cubicles. We will need to cross this Omaha Beach and keep moving forward.

This however, takes EVERYONE's rights away, even if they have never been exposed.

As far as I can tell farms and farming equipment are operating full speed in NE NC.
Across the border in Virginia, Tyson is having a fit but Purdue seems to be operating normally.
Smithfield is also having issues but they are still planting feed corn as normal.

In many parts of the country the weather is now good enough for people to be outside a lot (if only in their yards, gardens, neighborhood parks and on decks.)
