After years of fighting the left’s attempt to impose The Sustainable Organic Church Of The Carbon Apocalypse as America’s official state religion, I really didn’t expect an upstart religion to go from zero to Sharia in just two months, but here we are. How’s everyone enjoying the mandatory religious codes under our new state religion that just showed up from Wuhan?
Social distancing went from “keep a safe distance” to “remain behind closed doors at all times” in about the same time that Fat Tuesday gives way to Lent. And this sure is feeling like Lent in that you must sacrifice pleasures to be an obedient adherent. But unlike Christianity’s Lenten season, where there is no police force nor elected official commanding you to be properly observant, our new state religion will not tolerate anyone being deficiently pious. There are many parallels that can be drawn between the required Covid observances and traditional religious practices, but the two that stand out the most are Masks and Shutter-At-Home.Masks = Veils. Don’t misunderstand, if I’m in a fairly crowded store I’ll wear a mask (at least for now) to assure frightened co-shoppers that I’m not going to spread germs on them. And if I were on a plane or in a nursing home, I would certainly wear one just in case I’m an asymptomatic carrier. But the zealotry over masking is long past any health or safety concern. It’s become a public showing of obedience to the rules handed down by our ruling clerisy. A person riding his bike, alone, without wearing a mask is at risk of a public shaming from way too many Americans right now. He is not posing a risk to anyone, but neither is he publicly displaying obedience to the faith. And that will not be tolerated these days.
Shutter At Home = Observing The Sabbath. The high priests of our new religion are ordering police to arrest lone surfers, or dads playing catch with their kids at a park, or couples launching a canoe, etc. Their motivation has nothing to do with preventing the spread of disease. Zero. It is about regulating unapproved pleasure-seeking during a time when piety behind closed doors has been decreed mandatory. If you’re not miserable and pent up behind locked doors, you are a sinner. And then there are the Church Ladies of our new state religion - the whole Karen meme is about these suddenly empowered secular Church Ladies who live for moments like this. Normally their only joy in life is scolding people for simple sins such as not using canvas grocery bags or perhaps driving a large SUV. Now these humorless vigilantes feel they are deputized to enforce the observance of the shutter-at-home sabbath. A sabbath that goes on day after day, week after week, without any end in sight. Karen could not be happier. It is a near certainty that lockdown-induced chastity being imposed on millions of people is a thought that warms the icy heart of these charmless people. (And yes, there are male Church Ladies. We most commonly refer to them as “journalists") So go out and live in a manner that that is safe and makes you feel comfortable. But above all else – enjoy life. Publicly and proudly.Comments

I don't even like arguing over it anymore because this is religion now. (I especially love "climate deniers". You silly geese, I have long recognized something called "climate" exists. A lot of people are all into living for the doctors and the "experts" because critical thinking and proportionality are simply not taught by anybody: not by parents, not by teachers, not by absolutely frigging anybody. Never forget where modern Leftism started: the idea that human nature is a disease that MUST be cured, and that if we just have enough experts and credentialed types to run society for us and make decisions for us, everything will be better in the end. Never mind that this is not the case, this is still widely believed in America and elsewhere, and as a result, a lot of Americans are aching to submit to such rule.

That would include "people" like Gary fucking Ridgeway, aka the Green River Killer. The WA Supreme Court voted 5-4 against this. That means a one vote swing would have put an infamous serial killer on the street, alongside thousands of other murderers and assorted evil.

I am waiting to see if these limits on travelers persist. WY is not a big winter tourist attraction but in summer tourism is a major economic activity for them and I think they'll have to loosen up by Memorial weekend if they don't want to lose that cash.

For one thing, I'm not at all sure there is such a thing as a left wing ideology. There's nothing but a hatred of anything that they see as normal, and an urge to destroy, or at least hurt it, and all who embrace it.
The other point is that it really isn't centered around the state. The state is just an incidental agent to them. Because government has great powers to destroy, it's natural that they often turn to it. But they don't mind if they use another instrument, they're fine with that. Goolag, Assbook, Karen in charge of a Homeowners' Association; it's all one to them.
They don't even so much want power, as destruction; the abolition of man. I really don't see another way for it to make sense. Power is just the ability to do something. The real goal must be the thing they want done. And I can't see anything coherent as their goal, other than such destruction.

These days, it makes more sense for me to get what we need a coupla times during the week, so that's what I did today.
Noticed that more people here in BFE were wearing masks of some sort, including bandanas, than I saw last week, but no harsh words or looks from those that were veiled towards the rest of us heathens. So I've got that going for me.
Plenty of huevos, white and brown, and bread out the wazoo, all sorts. Beer has never run dry, go figure.
No point to this update, other than I've been drinking some of those suds since I got back to mi casa. There is a meatloaf in the oven, too, so endeavor to persevere!

Ha! This is so true! I ride an hour a day and most of it takes place in 2 parks, and when people see me flying down the path without a mask, they leap off the path like I'm a real physical danger to them. I wore a mask ONCE and it was so hard to breathe I haven't worn it since. Also I'm in Phoenix and it's in the 100s so, hell to the no.

Stopped at gas station, normal, Iraqi guy was friendly as always. Didn't have a chance to get my update on Mosul, often get his intel from family he still has there.
Decided to pop into Grocery Outlet, for beer and meat (2 key food groups). Excellent deal on blueberries/blackberries. Got some ground beef - meat section normal. Beer was low (for them), still plenty of selection. Overall pretty slow/empty. Staff said it's been that way for a few days.
Everyone was talking, not complaining, but noting how traffic has returned, much getting back to normal. Still don't have to plot, time, and plan a medium cross-county freeway trip (only a requirement the last few years, during the economic boom), but not as empty as just 2 weeks ago.
Guess people around here need to read more and get caught up more in things. Doesn't seem like many people are. Huh.

That is my biggest gripe with illegals. They live under a separate law(less) system. If they do not murder or rob someone they can have kids for free, not pay for the kids education, work for cash, and not worry at DUI.
entire counties now do not do DUI checks cause they catch illegals about 80% of the time.

If I have to show a passport to enter my own bloody country, I don't think it is too much to ask for everyone who enters the United States to do the same.
Last time I had to show my passport to re-enter the United States, we also had to endure a d*** measuring exhibition by federal law enforcement as I had to get my bags re-examined by TSA, this AFTER I was cleared where I started.

By referencing nursing homes you mean old people. But you'd have to concede that immunocompromised people, people with preexisting lung conditions, and others are just as vulnerable.
And any person you run into in a store could easily fall into one of those categories or be a close family member of someone who is.

So what is your point? You can tell when a stranger is vulnerable? I can't. Anyone might have a spouse at home who is undergoing chemotherapy. Anyone might be the sole caregiver or a nursing home aged adult.

I have a brother that is a post office employee in a smaller town outside Tacoma. He works the counter. They like to kid with their regulars. There are Karens, but they just smile and nod, never actually engaging in a conversation.
The regulars must like it, because my brother gets little gifts at Christmas from some of them.

I understand your point, but the flu every year effects the chemo patients, the elderly and every group you named. So we should do this every year? If so, why haven't we been?
Second, yes it is a political issue. If not, then why are D's in MI trying to limit Gov's orders? Several other states I believe fall into this category.
Third, yes it is political. States have their hand out and let's be honest, not only CV-19 costs, but past costs to even up their balance sheets.
Fourth - political, yes. At first we were told to flatten the curve. Flattening the curve does not, by and large, decrease infections or deaths. It mostly does not allow the healthcare industry to be overwhelmed at the peak. You still will have, all things being equal, the same number of deaths and positive cases. Now the goalposts are testing, vaccinations, etc. And there is no specific vaccination for the flu. It's a hit or miss.

That's what I used to do when I lived in Wichita. Bad hailstorms were a yearly occurrence. You either got comfortable with little craters all over your car or found a good place to stow it. I always drove to a rundown strip mall, rode up on the sidewalk and parked under the overhangs into the empty shops. Of course hail generally meant a tornado warning too but that was a different problem.

That is the exact opposite response.
The measure for government to release their death grip on your God-given Rights is for the number of new cases to fall. If we stopped all testing to 0 then there would be no new cases registered. OTOH, increased testing means that there will be increased confirmed cases, thus the number of cases would increase, not necessarily because the CVD-1984 is spreading, only in that it is now be enumerated.
More testing = more weeks/months of imprisonment.
