Overall, it seems violent crime is down throughout most of the nation. That’s not surprising, actually. After all, most of us are locked down in our home, we’re not out and about to be victims of armed robberies. While other crimes seem to be up, violent crime is down in many other places. It’s not down everywhere, though. For example, we know it’s not in Chicago. We can’t be completely sure why it’s not there while it is in other places, but it’s not. It seems the District of Columbia is in the same boat.

Deputies said they were called to the area of County Road 452 and South Em En El Grove Road around 10:30 a.m. Easter Sunday and found Amy Hunt swinging a 3 foot long metal pole at vehicle as they drove by, forcing the drivers to swerve.
When deputies asked her about her behavior, they said she told them she was having a “nicotine fit” and she was angry that the passing motorists wouldn’t give her cigarettes.

Mom and I had a talk about what happens if I don't get hired back by my school for the fall (which I foresee happening); she said she had enough money to cover us both if I needed to move back in permanently, but I said I just couldn't bring myself to do that. When I was but a wee tyke of 4 or so, we lived in Vallejo for a bit more than a year.
The Old Man was on the Commissioning Crew of the U.S.S. Scamp, at Mare Island Naval Shipyard.
Base housing was "tight quarters". I wouldn't say that my brother and I shared a "bedroom", exactly. More like a doored alcove, at best.
So, while I wasn't exactly aware of the Greater Vallejo area, I can attest to this much: My folks hated the place, and couldn't wait to get us outta there.
So, shithole. By decree.

There was a big study a few years ago that surveyed political opinions mashed up with charitable giving and the Left gives nothing. They believe in taking money from the rest of us at gunpoint and "giving" it to their various interest groups as welfare.

Kind of harsh. But then, you could argue she brought a lot of it on herself by making the wrong choice so many times.
Though I really have no use for the "Moar Women on Screen!!!" movement, I do think it's a fair knock on Breaking Bad that there were only two long-running female characters, and neither was written very well.

It's decent, though I kinda got taken out of it by the fact that Aaron Paul and some of the others have very clearly aged since the finale, like too much to ignore.
I also didn't think it tied up that many loose ends. It basically just kind of reaffirmed things the finale had led us to believe, so while it works as a standalone special, it didn't really add anything significant, in my opinion.

There was an owner of a men's wear shop on TuCa tonight who opened his Manhattan shop today. He said the cops stopped by and he told them he was open and if people wanted to come in and shop and buy stuff he wasn't going to stop them. The cops left without giving him a ticket or doing anything.
He said the cops asked if he was a veteran and he said yes and they thanked him for his service and he thanked them.

Once you locate working tanks you will need to gain access to the base. Unless you already have military id or you are a grade a forger, getting in a guarded gate isnt goin to work.
You will need to get in by either going over or through a fence. Take bolt cutters. Good ones because that chain link is thicker than you think. You will also need to cut the lock of hatch you choose to use. I would advise going through the turret hatch if you are unfamilliar with the layout of a tracked vehicle.
You should also. if you don't have the experience, familiarize yourself with the controls and be able to locate the master power switch and the start button.
Once you gain access and have started you stolen 70 ton monster, please be smart and not like that dummy that stole an m-60 out in commiefornia,
COMBAT LOCK the damned thing. That way when you get cought on an obstacle, nobody can fire a weapon into the thing and end your reighn of terror.

Considering that Portland is 6.3% black and 1.0% Native American, it will be a challenge to staff all these do-gooder organizations with appropriate BIPOCs, but I'm sure that these "progressive" organizations will be up to the challenge.
The boast of one Portland "progressive" organization is no longer enough:

My daughter's rheumatologist told her to start the Auto Immune Protocol diet, which is essentially paleo, but with a lot more fruit and veg. The couple of AIP cookbooks i have gotten are death on vegan/vegetarian, and the food pyramid. It's actually pretty interesting reading since they are all written by biochemists.
I will draw the line at organ meats, though. Just no.

Still can't believe there are Twitter "influencers" on the right/pro-Trump who still think shutting down society wasn't the stupidest idea in decades. I keep thinking how much better we'd be handling this if it happened in the pre-internet days. It'd be thought of a mainly a threat to nursing homes and such, and people'd be taking precautions to protect at-risk family members, but none of this impossible notion that we need to keep everyone and anyone from catching it.

I said, "Send me the papers, I'll put down my side of the story PDQ as I wasn't the one with maturity issues."
She did, I did, and within two months, annulled.

Chicken or duck liver: Saute in olive oil, salt and pepper, do not overcook, ambrosial.
Chicken hearts: Saute in lard until crisp on the outside and just not-pink on the inside. Wonderful. No one seems to eat these, so I don't know why they're so hard to find.
Chicken gizzard: Simmer, slice thin, dress. Enjoyable meat platter option.
Pig kidney: A pain to trim, you need a really sharp, thin knife, but the Sichuan version of this is unbelievably good.
Pig liver: Not much experience with this, except in rice porridge, where it shines.
Pig intestines: Fried crisp on the outside, creamy inside. Um, cleaning is really important, guys. Awesome, though.
Calves liver: Really good, but you have to be restrained in the cooking. The moment the pink almost vanishes from the very center of the slice is the moment to eat it. Overcooked, it is horrid.
Adult cow liver: This tastes disgusting. Do not eat.
Beef/pork tripe: cook until soft. Needs serious flavors to make it edible. Curry works.
Goose intestines: Surprisingly noodle-like. No flavor. Great texture. Spicy sauce and served cold is the way to go.
Never had lamb kidney, but Nero Wolfe says to broil it and brush with mustard sauce.

Most (not wearing masks) greeted me equally as well. Some even pushed their strollers up my walkway so I could get a view of their children, and then wished me well.
I stayed out there till the sun was down. There was the occasional solo walker with a mask that just waked on by without an acknowledgement...(no doubt still locked into some self imposed total quarantine.)

Tube. I know some of the big boys have been running tubeless radial on tractors for some time now. The problem there is you can't put water (and CaCl) solution in them because it corrodes the rims, so they just use big rear wheel weights.
These big boys actually do better (for one or two man) jobs to do it right on the tractor. Jack it up, then break it down right on the tractor. To patch the tube, you just have to pull on side off the rim.
But it's a bitch to do. You've got to get the water out, which requires filling it with air, with the stem at the bottom and blowing the water out. Takes a couple or three cycles to do it. And then you've still got a belly of water in the tube, because the stem is at rim height.
It's a bitch.

My local tire shop in Alberta does a lot of Ag tires. They have air-powered pumps to suck the calcium chloride brine out of the tubes.
On my little International, a rear tube leaked. I was able to get the wheel dismounted (it's about chest-high on me), and flop it onto my flat-deck trailer. Took it to the tire shop, and they sucked out the brine, and I brought the rusty rim home, and welded up the bad spots, and painted it. Then the tire shop remounted the tire and refilled it.

I was in Mexico once and had Menudo Soup. They had the intestine all cut up into rings, floating in the soup, and you could see all the villi on the inside of the rings, like little worms. It had a foul smell, like old sewage, but I was determined to prove I could eat the real thing, and didn't want to look bad in front of my co-travelers. I made one good big spoonful of it, swallowing it down, and setting my brain to racing "think about anything else, think about anything else" and I smiled and acted like it was great.
and then the weirdest thing happened - I went to take a second bite, and my hand stopped about halfway to my mouth. I was thinking "no you have to do this! It isn't that bad!!!" and yet my hand decided to go completely rogue, and absolutely refused to get that second spoonful anywhere near my mouth. I tried begging, pleading - "don't make me look bad, come on!" but Nope. it just refused. So I just had to shake my head and admit defeat, and have another margarita instead.

Such a boat ought to be worth several million dollars new. Why was it taken out of service? What's the hull made of? Is the hull corroded or otherwise unfit for service? The buy-it-now price of $13000 sounds like scrap value to me.
Would it be sufficiently seaworthy to make it from Hawaii to the mainland under its own power? Does it carry enough fuel?

Looking at the un-repaired wear, worn paint and unkempt condition, I'd wager that it was Contract Crew.
I've been aboard U.S.N. Diesel Electric "Guppy" class subs (upgrade to WWII Fleet Class design), which were at or near the end of their service life, and they were in MINT condition compared to the boat in that ad.
Any of you Blue Water USN types care to comment on this one?
I cannot imagine an Active Duty USN Chief allowing HIS boat to fall into such a state of disrepair.
And an Officer's OER from that one would take Career Ending Damage.
Oh, and for Horde usage? Close in the transom, torch out the torpedo ramp, and weld IN conventional decks, bulkheads and more crew quarters.

It's just going to carry a few extra 500 gal. fuel bladders on deck and secured to the torpedo ramp, to do it.
But I wouldn't trust it to do so, until I had a crack team of former USN sailors in every needed rating, working to bring every system in that boat back up to Active Duty condition, and then a series of torturous Sea Trials to hard-test each and every one of those systems.
And then sail with the core of that crew, who would also be the Damage Control Party, underway.
Give her a Maintenance Period in San Diego, perhaps a few days in dry dock and another short Sea Trial, then set course for Panama and Points East.
With lots of chipping, sanding, painting and "making-right" while underway, with the goal of landing at Galveston, in Bristol Condition.
She has enough life left in her, based on the Hobbs Meters (engine hours), that she deserved to be a Proud and Fit Ship, once again.

If it were sitting at the dock in Seattle or Tacoma, and I could buy it for $13000, I would do it, and then find a place to drag it onshore, and scrap it out. If the hull is aluminum, and i think it might well be, it would be worth a pretty penny as scrap, and the engines, gensets, reversing gears, and prop shafts would all have good scrap value, too.

I'd find deck space for the Mk 19s, otherwise, a strong NO to everything else.
The Riverine Boats were launching mortars into jungles to counter hostile fire there.
We'd be taking on Venezuelan Naval/Pirate boats.

Small boats are almost impossible to hit with a mortar, they are moving targets.
30mm, and Ma Deuce were the weapons of choice on me Destroyer,
even with the Camera controlled CIWS and 5 inches of loving available.
Hellfires need a targeting system, usually a laser designator illuminating the target.
And in choppy seas? Its just plain hard to keep that on target (I know, we tested some of this stuff back in the 80's).

Optical Pattern Recognition sighting systems are to my view, the most difficult of all systems to defeat.
They require ultra-fast processors and huge embedded databases of various targets from all possible aspect angles.
That would have been a challenge, in the '90s.

It was a huge story over here for quite awhile (though we don't watch news on tv) about the girls who tried to stab another girl and almost killed her trying to "please Slenderman", but wouldn't you know it, a couple of years ago already, my daughter brought up Slenderman at home because she had heard about him from a friend. As much as our stupid governor, Evers, would have us locked up at home for months on end, it's not like I can control all the stuff that comes to her. Right now it's just a constant effort to try to convince her that no matter how "weird" her parents are, she needs to trust us on the staying away from the spirits type stuff.

There are a lot more trains coming through than usual. About 10 years or so ago, we became a "no horn" little city, but they do blow the horns at the rural crossings before and after. We can hear them at night, when it is quiet. But it seems like this night they are blowing the horns at all the crossings in town. Maybe that's why it seems like there are more coming through.

That said, if this is being done with the least bit of "yay environment!!" promotion then I don't understand this at all. Not one bit. Fine, electric airplanes. Great. That's the key. It's an economic job-creation program to allow for lots of grafts and kickbacks and glad-handing while accomplishing very little and more likely wasting resources. Remember, the work and manpower put into this could be going to something else.
Someone should write a hypothesis about it. Maybe use broken windows as a the example.

On my mac it's cloverleaf (command key) twice and a little microphone icon pops up. Sometimes I don't notice the icon, but I do notice that youtube videos have no sound.

Most tobacco grown in the US is cigarette filler, with notable exceptions like Connecticut wrapper (which isn't necessarily grown there.)
Sherlock Holmes smoked a tobacco from a Louisiana parish that is fermented for like 5 years, and currently costs the same as some Davidoff wrapper, 70 bucks a pound. I've had some (in a Russian export cigarette; very good).
Regular pipe tobacco is about 15 dollars a pound.

It's been a while since I smoked or even looked at pipe tobacco; I miss the scents. The Lousy-ana stuff is perique, I think? Too heady to be smoked by itself, it has to be blended. I don't remember perique being mentioned in the Holmes stories, but I think Latakia tobacco turned up at least once.
I never cared for the "English" blends like that. They smelled too much like a tire shop. I liked the chocolate and even cherry blends.

858 Maybe I'm dense or something but what the hell DeWine. I haven't been required to wear a mask, it's been suggested, but not required while shopping retail. Now on 5/11 it's required. And where exactly will people be buying these masks since I couldn't find any immediately available? So all of those WuFlu germs will automatically be more potent when the rest of our retail establishments open up.
I have one real mask and I use it when I go to mom's assisted living home to drop off supplies to the front desk.
Also, still will not be able to have my hair cut but the dog can finally have her nails trimmed and her anal glands expressed. No sense to any of this.
And my daily reminder of where we stand in OH. Just like the black death I tell ya.

And last week in one of his press conferences they said they would not be requiring people to wear masks. Dishonest bullshit totalitarianism. I will refuse to wear one as long as possible. I will not wear it right. I will not follow the stupid rules that do nothing.
If masks were so necessary why wasn't NYC requiring them on subways a month ago.

I'm not sure what a funnel cake is, but a beignet is pretty much the same thing as a sopaipilla, the little flaky pastries New Mexico restaurants park on your table along with honey. The green chile flames you out, you pour some honey on a sopaipilla and take a bite, and it cuts the burning way down. (The honey works by itself, though.)
Only difference is that the beignet is caked with white powdered sugar.
