158 There is a movie where Cary Grant is a single dad who has an impossibly thin waisted Sophia Loren drop in to pretend to be his maid. Or something. It's complicated.

I just googled it. It's Houseboat. I found this writeup:

Sophia Loren at her peak of gorgeousness, kicking her feet languidly as she fished from the edge of a houseboat. Cary Grant (equally at his peak of gorgeousness...actually, he never had a peak, he was forever gorgeous) anyway...Cary Grant in an all American tizzy because "there's work to be done!"

Dolce Far Niente

Sophia shrugs and says, with Italian accented vowels, "Dolce far niente. It is sweet to do nothing." In post-war 1958 that was a joke. Ha, ha, lazy European; what does she know but how to look outrageously sexy while fishing.

I mean, Durham has been on this case for a couple of years at least. DoJ - TRUMP's DoJ - had all of the exculpatory Flynn stuff from the beginning. And they were reluctant even at this late date to release it, and it is still full of redactions.

There is so much material on Biden, I don't think they know where to start. He has a lot of weirdness going on with women and this is the icing. He and his son were grifters in the Ukraine and that's not even completely out in the open yet. The stuff with China, with this virus in perspective, will make that a top issue. That's before we get to the fact he is incompetent and the tapes prove it. Plus the fact that every day brings a new reason not to vote for him. Oh and he can't tie his own shoes.

Trump needs to focus on the economy, getting people back to work and punishing the Chicoms. He needs to point out how Democrats have demonstrably conspired to steal our liberty. FTW.

Wow, had never heard that. Read Dyan Cannon's interesting memoir -- she's pretty sharp -- and was stunned to learn that Cary Grant was a yuge LSD user and proponent. He kept trying to persuade her to try it, but she had a horrible first trip and refused to ever do it again.

214 I spent the last 20 minutes or so trying to figure out what Trump was relying on when he claimed Sweden's numbers are "horrible", and I found it. It's best encapsulated by an article in Newsweek (of course) which claims that Sweden has a "death rate" of 12%, compared to Iran which only has a "death rate" of 5.6%, or the US, which has a "death rate" of 5.8%, or China, which they claim has a "death rate" of 5.5%.

We all know by now how they faked these numbers - they divide deaths by official cases, so it is easy for countries to fake numbers by manipulating the number of cases reported, and also any country which doesn't try to claim a huge number of asymptomatic cases, or only tests people who have symptoms, will report a much higher "death rate".

In other words, it's all statistical manipulation, the "rate" means nothing at all, and only people who want to manipulate the public (Newsweek) and people who simply do not understand mathematical concepts at all buy into this nonsense. And it grieves me to realize that Trump is putting himself into one of those two categories.

FTW.

And I think the Bernie Bros smell blood in the water.

The way Bernie got shafted twice and how this stuff is coming after the primary is effectively over is going to make their moves extra desperate. They have hope, and there's nothing more dangerous than hope (in my best Morgan Freeman impression, which is perfect, by the way).

Usually primary fights end with the last challenger suspending their campaign, but this year feels different. Bernie's not gonna do jack shit because he's a little bitch, but his supporters are mad as hell and aren't gonna take it anymore.

Early in the Odyssey (early in the narrative order, anyway), when Telemachus goes to visit a few people far away to ask about Dad, there are accounts of the level of hospitality shown him. They measured how nice a bed was by how many sheep pelts formed the mattress. And that's just how the world was, before Mike Lindell came along.

280 There is a movie where Cary Grant is a single dad who has an impossibly thin waisted Sophia Loren drop in to pretend to be his maid.

Posted by: blaster at May 01, 2020 10:04 AM (ZfRYq)

That was the movie that made me have a total little boy crush on Sophia Loren.

I saw it on TV one Saturday night when I was, maybe 6 or 8, something like that.

I thought Sophia Loren was the most beautiful lady evah. And because in that movie, she so fun and delightful and loved being around the kids, she was like my angelic ideal of womanhood.

Here's the song she sang:

"Bing Bang Bong"

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I9IvNh4Iba8

299 a good article from a couple years ago on Cary Grant, about a biopic on his life, released in 2017: "Cary Grant: how 100 acid trips in Tinseltown changed my life"

this quote stood out: "In one LSD dream I imagined myself as a giant penis launching off from Earth like a spaceship."

"I have spent the greater part of my life fluctuating between Archie Leach and Cary Grant" he once confessed. "Unsure of each, suspecting each." It was this tension, this friction that struck such sparks on the screen. (end quote)

the story goes on to detail how he was traumatized by the disappearance of his mother, who he assumed had died. It wasn't til he was in his thirties that he found out she had been committed to an insane asylum by his father.

one more quote from that piece: "When Grant went to rescue her, Elsie suspiciously looked him up and down. "Archie?" she said. "Is that really you?" Except that by this point, of course, even he wasn't sure."

They are morally wrong, but sadly for us, the Pentagon Papers case in the 70's (Daniel Ellsburg) held that it's completely legal for a news outlet to publish stolen government papers, "in the public interest". This also completely undermines any case that the US might ever had had against Julian Assange on these grounds, which is probably why he's never going to see the inside of a courtroom. 375 imo part of the "balancing act" for even Barr and Durham and that team, has been how to prosecute the bad (horrendous) actors, without destroying the agencies (that are still needed, but with major reform).

How to restore public trust in the IC, but also prosecute most of the TopMen. And even Barr and Durham are men OF belief in the institutions as agencies of good. AND there are times when the sources and methods have crossed lines, but it served our American interests. (e.g. CIA involved in removing dictators in foreign elections?, Noriega?, ops in Venzuela/China/etc.).

As with the Federal Reserve ... massive reform is needed, but we need the IC and the Fed Reserve to function properly. "End the Fed" and "shut down the FBI" are probably not an option. But failure to fully prosecute the top 25 (1000?) offenders of The Resistance is also not a viable option.

So we wait, and Hope. Tricky business, lots of global concerns tied to our reforms. Outcome uncertain ... Operation Pandemic underway ...

396 There is a movie where Cary Grant is a single dad who has an impossibly thin waisted Sophia Loren drop in to pretend to be his maid.
