Friday, the nail salon opened, and I got my mani-pedi. The Antique & Flea also opened. Not my favorite, but any antique store is a good antique store.
Today, all churches could hold attended services, if people chose to attend in person.
Tomorrow, the restaurants can open.
Friday, my favorite antique store is opening.
The dentist is reopening Monday week, and they scheduled my crowns on May 19.
So pretty much, yes.

Most people have two horizontal creases, neither one of which goes completely across,the palm.

I think that it is a question of nomenclature - a number of Southern states defaulted on state railroad bonds in the 1850's. That may not have been "bankruptcy", but the states still didn't pay their legally contracted debts.
Just suggest to Illinois that if they want a bailout, they will be placed under a Federal board that has to approve any state expenditure - like what happens when states occasionally take over insolvent local governments.

Astoria is at the mouth of the Columbia River, for those non-PacNW Morons. The camera angle is pointed roughly at Vladivostok. No, we can't actually see Russia from Jordan61's deck.
I can only imagine what it looks like on a sunny day.
I would have a tough time working there, because when it is sunny, I would just stare out the window all day, getting very little done.

btw Bandon Dunes is in Oregon.
I believe that pic was Ruby Beach. It is right up near the far corner of the state, and there are many beaches there, ShiShi Beach, Rialto Beach, Second Beach, Third Beach, and others.
Oh, and nobody is driving, everyone is hiking. Some beaches are an easy walk, some are a few miles from the parking area. It is like you go back in time when you arrive.
One of my top 5 areas of WA state for amazing and unique geography, hands down. July, August, and first half of September are the best times to visit.
If you try an off-season hike, there will be nobody there.

But the ATF wanted to stage a big dog and pony show, for funding. And so they staged this bizarre and unnecesary military style raid on a bunch of people who were guaranteed to freak out if anyone pulled military type raid on them; and then the FBI took over and every day, their incompetence made the situation worse, until they intentionally murdered everyone, including all the children, just because it had gotten embarrassing and that wanted it to be over with.

A few years later, I checked with a dermatologist's PA. She likes to look at warts and moles, all right, and sometimes at spots you don't even notice. But she said not to even worry about a skin tag. If it bothers you, slice it. Now, I don't know. Maybe the one I had was the "safe" kind. She acted as if they don't belong in the same category with potentially cancerous cells.

A few years later, I checked with a dermatologist's PA. She likes to look at warts and moles, all right, and sometimes at spots you don't even notice. But she said not to even worry about a skin tag. If it bothers you, slice it. Now, I don't know. Maybe the one I had was the "safe" kind. She acted as if they don't belong in the same category with potentially cancerous cells.

I'm mildly annoyed every single time I take a flu shot and then get sick anyway. We've been at each other, compromising the future of conservatism, over a false dichotomy: we should not have to be arguing over how long a quarantine or a lock-down is, because we should have had to buy only a little time to get a vaccine out. For a LeftCoast Dawg, you should have known that that picture was taken looking EAST, not WEST. It's looking upriver on the Columbia, given the marina you're looking over towards the bridge is on the west side of it, and the highest span is on the south (Oregon) side of the river. Plus, it was taken closer to evening, with the sun setting in the west (sun behind, causing rainbow to appear in the mist).

It's not just Uncle Sam that is shitting out new debt like a madman. Corporate bond issuance hit an all time high of $264B in March, breaking the previous monthly high by $80B.
And yes, it's the Fed that is backstopping that. They are buying corporate debt (not directly yet, but they are backstopping it -- again, print money to keep yields low, and keep the market from blowing up).
Again, we are in cloud cuckoo land of monetary policy here.

For a LeftCoast Dawg, you should have known that that picture was taken looking EAST, not WEST. It's looking upriver on the Columbia, given the marina you're looking over towards the bridge is on the west side of it, and the highest span is on the south (Oregon) side of the river. Plus, it was taken closer to evening, with the sun setting in the west (sun behind, causing rainbow to appear in the mist).

When FBI sniper Lon Horuchi killed Vicki Weaver at Ruby Ridge, Idaho, Federal Judge Edward J. Lodge, a George HW Bush appointee, held that Supremacy Clause of the US Constitution grants immunity to Federal officers acting in the scope of their employment.
Horuchi could have opened fire with an automatic weapon in downtown Boise, and he would be untouchable, so long as he was "acting in the scope of his employment", in the opinion of Judge Lodge.
Amazingly, the Ninth Circuit reversed this on a 6-5 vote, which still meant that five judges thought that Federal agents could murder people without consequences, so long as they were on duty.
Boundary County Idaho elected a new prosecutor, who elected not to prosecute Horuchi, so Horuchi walked away scot-free.
Many FBI and ATF people were present at both Ruby Ridge and Waco.

While Weimar is the most well know (and studied) hyperinflation, the record is post-War Hungary. You can express peak inflation rates in annualized terms and all that, but the numbers get so big it's meaningless. Far better is the "monetary half life" or the doubling time of the price level.
Hungary's doubling time was 15 hours at the peak. Zimbabwe in recent times went up there as well, but where it stands in the rankings, I don't know.

Yes, that paying twice per day was a thing. In Weimar, the daily inflation rate was about 21%. So something would cost 21% more at the end of the day. Buy the shit while the money is still hot.

The thing about hyperinflation is that it is not just a high inflation rate. In hyperinflation, the inflation rate itself is rapidly increasing, blowing up.
Consider plotting the price level a logarithmic graph. With a constant inflation rate, that graph will be a straight line.
In hyperinflation, that graph will itself look like an exponential.
IOW, the price level goes as e^(e^rt)!

And they've been hitting Iranian targets in Syria regularly for a long time. I don't think "restraint" actually was a relevant concept there at any point, more a question of feasibility and urgency of the operation.
Recently they did a nice brushback pitch, posting video of surveillance of Hezbollah thugs in Syria, with the obvious implication. A bit of a history to that approach. When Arafat was evacuated from Beirut in '82, Israeli snipers' photos of him (obviously in range) were shown to the US to confirm that they could have stopped his journey if they chose to do so.

I don't know enough about this Dem Panic to judge how much is bs and how much is real. It is a real thing there is no doubt about that. What I wonder about is how many deaths are attributed to this disease. Is there a way to prove all of this?
They claim smoking related deaths are almost as high as any other cause of death. They say smoking related deaths are about 500,000. Now there is no doubt in my mind that smoking is horrible for your health. That can not be disputed and it is dangerous to smoke. But I wonder how they decide what is a smoking related death. If someone dies of heart disease and smokes, is that a smoking related death? If someone dies of heart disease and doesn't smoke, it is pretty clear it wasn't smoking related.
The point I am maknig is a lot of these numbers are fungible. I have seen people with multiple health issues pass away. A doctor or other medical professional had to put something on the death certificate as the cause of death. It is not like Quincy, they don't spend weeks trying to figure this stuff out.
No doubt smoking is bad for you and Covid is for real. But if you buy the numbers as sacrosant, you have not seen how they do it for others who pass away. My guess is in some cases is it being played down, and in other cases it is being played up because of ulterior motives, a lack of tenacity, or simply out of reaching the wrong conclusion. Young people today spout off the numbers of dead as it this were Gettysburg. But if you ask them how many die every day in this country, I doubt many could even get close.

If it was in a tube, it may be possible but I am not sure about that. My guess is it will never be what it was intended to be. From what I have heard, if a cigar loses its humidity you can never really bring it back to its original state. To make it smokeable, you will want to bring it back in a humidor or some type of package with humidity. The standard is to bring is back to around 70 percent humidity and keep it around 70 degrees but not higher. These numbers are not exact but they are the standard.
Really you need to examine the cigar itself. If it is dry to the touch or peeling, then it will likely never be what it once was. That is not a reason to dump it, you can still get it back to smoking level. You could do this with a glad bag and a Boveda humidifying pack. All in your will spend about $5.

Yeah, it'll be ok as long as it didn't absorb anything. It needs to go into your humidor, and then you wait.
Technically, it ought to be just fine. Monte Cristo is a top brand and I'm sure they expect those tubes to lay around for years.

I know too many family members that passed away before 80 that never smoked and did not booze. I also know people who have smoked like chimney's for over fifty years and some are in their 90s. I don't deny that smoking is horrible for your health, but a lot of this is luck of the draw.

but how do they know? I am seriously interested. It is not morbid curiosity but it is related to what we are going through now. If every smoker who dies of heart disease did so because of smoking, then what explains the non smokers who die of heart disease? I am sure we all know heart disease is the number one killer, even among women. Certainly the number of female smokers is pretty low. I just wonder how precise they are when they attribute these things.

I'm sure you know, but don't use that brush except maybe on your tires. You don't know what kind of debris the previous 1,000 customers left in that thing.
I also rarely use soap on the car unless I am going to do a hand waxing afterward. The soap lessens whatever wax protection you already have on the car. I rinse the car twice, maybe wipe it down with a sheepskin mitt, then do a final spot-free rinse. Then I use the wax-as-you-dry (WAUD) spray to put down a little wax and shine, and dry with microfiber or cotton towels. This is a weekly thing; I don't expect the wax from the spray to last more than 7 days.

Trump goofed. The experts came marching in, hair on fire, showing model runs of millions of deaths, and he blinked. He never asked, "whose model?" and "what's the track record?". If he had he would have learned this same guy with the same model predicted this mortality from two previous pandemics and was way wrong both times, just like he is way wrong now.
