Leslye likes attacking "white women" for not being strong enough "allies" for marginalized groups.
A new rumor details that Disney and Lucasfilm are working on a new "female-centric" Star Wars series. The rumor comes from Variety and details the series is being helmed by the co-creator of Netflix's Russian Doll series, Lesly Headland. Headland is expected to write and serve as showrunner for the series.
... Headland recently discussed the film industry where she described white executives as the "silent killer." She stated, "I'm also seeing the silent killer, which is a lot of white women at the top who are kind of reinforcing old ideas." She added, "As I started to rise in television, I started to just get more blunt. And just start saying like, 'I would like a black writer' because if I said diverse, you know, you get well 'White is diverse,' which is something somebody said to me. I was like 'It's not, but cool.'"Except here's the thing: White feminists do think that "white" is diverse. Comics Matter looked at the personnel of a book industry charity a couple of weeks ago, and chuckled to see they were all -- all! -- white women who actually looked like they were near clones of each other. He noted the old saying, that "A-level people hire other A-level people, but B-level people hire C-level people. But white women just hire other white women." Which is true. And I don't mean conservative white women, I mean liberal feminist white women. They consider themselves a "minority" -- despite women being more numerous than men, and having more college degrees than men, etc. -- and therefore are absolutely without shame in hiring one white woman feminist/likely lesbian after another. You can walk into any publishing house and see nothing but white feminist woman quasi-clones, 90% of whom went to the same twenty colleges, and yet they're all absolutely convinced they're being oppressed and the system is stacked against them. And then they just go out and hire more white women and mutter darkly about evil men who only hire men. Which we don't -- there are laws against it. But if you're a white feminist woman -- sky's the limit on how non-diverse you can make your office. Every time you hire another white woman, your diversity quotient somehow goes up. I'm not bothered by this new "female-centric" series, for two reasons: 1, Kathleen Kennedy is a known failure who is only being allowed to pretend to be head of Lucasfilm for political reasons. Disney is the most PC #Woke company on earth, and doesn't want to be seen as firing women, even for gross, repeated incompetence. I get the sense that she will cry #MeToo if they fire her. I do not believe this series will ever happen. This is some bullshit that Kathleen Kennedy and her Woke Squad of white women feminists have put together, and Disney said "sure" because it doesn't cost too much money to pay a minor writer to jot down some ideas. 2, I also don't care if Disney does make this series. As some commenters said in the previous thread, no one cares about Star Wars any more. It's a dead brand. Dead. There is no more anger about ruining it; it's already ruined. And also: I want Disney to die -- DIE DIE DIE -- so I'm all in favor of them producing more unwatchable woke garbage. By the way, Disney Star Wars made a big announcement a few weeks back about their big new project, "The High Republic," in which "diversity" would be a core value. So core that they listed it twice on their whiteboard. And how diverse would The High Republic be? So diverse that the exalted Jedi hero would be, get this, a fifty something schoolmarm white woman who is likely a lesbian and certainly owns more than eight cats. (Space cats, whatever.)

He fails rather miserably across the first two (I unabashedly love the third), but there's a really interesting idea running through the stilted dialogue, performances, and fake CGI. That of a republic falling into tyranny matched up against a young innocent man falling into evil.
He just didn't figure out how to do that across three movies. His "plan" was essentially just Episode III, which is why it works better than the other two.

He really likes the prequels, very much like boys his age seem to. Loves Clone Wars. Likes Rebels.
I told him that, especially as someone who saw Episode 4 in the theater the first day it came out, I'll stack up Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit against any six Star Wars movies, and Middle Earth is more enjoyable than The Empire.
Still too young, but I think he's coming around to Dad's POV.

Several years ago I read an article by a woman who got hired at her dream job at one of the major publishing houses. She was from one of the flyover states and worked her butt off to get a scholarship to an Ivy and set her eyes on publishing because omg I'm an editor! Living in Manhattan! Omg look how I've rejected everything about my past and my family!
The article was quite amusing, actually, because it dealt with her discovering that a. NYC is wildly expensive, II. that her job paid nothing and thus she had to have roommates in a tiny little apartment in an outer borough (this is pre Brooklyn is so hip), and, best of all, trois. that there was ABSOLUTELY a dress code.
Everyone wore the same pencil skirt and sweater set combo, the only difference was it Ann Taylor or real Ralph Lauren. And showing up in anything else would get her side eyed to hell and back.
The freedom she assumed she would have did not exist. Everything was lock step group think and don't you dare nudge a toe out of line.
IIRC, the article ended with her moving back home after a few years to help care for a sick family member and she got a job writing for corporate PR for a meat company and discovered that it paid better than publishing, she could buy a nice size house all by herself, and since she was now the kooky creative on the corporate team, no one cared if she showed up with a purple stripe in her hair and in bright colors and crazy skirts so long as she wasn't flashing t ampersand a all over the place.
Funny how that works.

it is funny when they say that but you can't change the fact that saw them as kids, it makes a difference. There is a reason episode 4, Jaws, and even E.T. to a lesser extent mean something to me. There is a reason Raiders will always mean something to me. You can't recreate youth and the impact movies had back then.
But yeah, I don't see how kids can have a soft spot for space trade route disputes and guys killing 100s of fake cgi drones that are as much a threat as a blade of grass.

There's a lot of crap in Phantom Menace. I DON'T think it works as the origin story of Annie. And it doesn't work as the story of Princess Leia's mom being stunning and brave.
But there IS a story there.

As much as you're bagging on the droid killing in episode 1, fight scenes were largely much more drab in the original trilogy. In that they practically didn't exist as a real fight so much as cutting back and forth. Episode 1 had some pretty flashy fight scenes especially the duels that ended each of the movies(prequel trilogy altogether).

Funny you say that, especially about E.T.
When we lived in Los Angeles, my son's elementary school had an outdoor showing of E.T. for its end of year event. They even arranged for one of the actors from E.T. (one of Elliott's bicycle buddies) to come and say a few words about his experience on the set. I was quite stoked to see it after almost 40 years.
Anyway, I show up, and when the movie is on I'm...embarrassed and shocked.
The language and dysfunctional family situations were nothing like I remembered it. My first thought was to get my kid out of the screening, because it was completely inappropriate for an elementary school class to see that movie.

Edge of Tomorrow works because Cruise plays with his own persona in it and because there's an actual character arc. Plus 'splosions.
The Happy Death Day movies are just FUN. They are popcorn munching fun and take themselves just seriously enough that everyone is giving their all. These are silly little B movies and everyone involved knows it and sets out to put on a good show. There's nothing at all wrong with that.

The 2016 DNC provided a small clue as to where "they" want to take us. Although they did pop the lights and balloons (whoa!!!) with large splashes of color (mostly blue) occasionally, it was generally silver, grey, cold and weird. Stripped of everything we previously knew.
It was like being trapped on some alien spaceship. I am guessing it was supposed to look "futuristic" (benefit of the doubt) but that's not a future I want any part of.

When Frank Herbert found a director to film Dune, the director was concerned to find around 147 similarities that Star Wars had ripped off from the 1965 novel.
I know, archetypes have similar themes, but there were way too many coincidences. I think Lucas's lack of creativity was spotlighted in the sequels. Empire Strikes Back was his only redeeming work.
Star Wars is a rip off of Dune. Herbert details it in the intro to one of his reprints.

She pulled this same shit on April 7th a week before the original order was going to expire on April 14th. Said back then she could see 77 days into the future and needed a 70-day extension. But then amazingly decided to compromise with a 23-day extension, despite data telling her she needed 70 days. Imagine that.
Now, a week ago, when she's badmouthing the April 15th protest, she claims she can't know 2 weeks out whether or not she can lift the stay-at-home order. But now --- once again, a week before the order is to expire --- her crystal ball magically can predict 3 weeks into the future in favor of an extension.

I swore off Netflix when they repeatedly charged my closed account in Brazilian Reals. I never got an explanation. No way anyone had my p.w. or my CC. Maybe someone used keylogger but how wold they know the account was closed? They reopened a closed account and charged it for a few months. I just happened to check back in for some reason and discovered it.
If I call them the people barely understand what I am saying and claim there is no history of my account. Sure, then why do I still have my p.w. written down? I used the account for years. You can't get anyone competent on the phone. It is funny it is a huge blow out stock and a large cap. At one point a guy admitted this happened to other people. I hear they have some good shows but it is hard to come back from that.

Heh, I just wandered into a list of top home invasion movies that has a big warning A BUNCH OF THESE ARE FRENCH AND THE FRENCH ARE BAT SHIT INSANE WITH THEIR HORROR.
And that right there is an understatement. People think that Eli Roth makes torture porn movies. The French consider what he makes a children's cartoon.
Now, some French horror is absolutely fantastic. But it's very very very brutal.
The flip side is if you want a slow burn, sit there watching as people make horrible choices that you know are going to end terribly, there's A Dark Song.
It's slow. It's meant to be slow. It's more ominous than terrifying, at least until the end. But it's about watching someone choosing with each step to lose herself to darkness and you understand why she's doing it and that makes it all the worse.
On the super other side, if you want completely insane, there's Mandy, in which Nic Cage is the sanest part of it.
