The Wisconsin Institute for Law & Liberty (WILL) filed a lawsuit in federal court Thursday on behalf of Amyiah Cohoon and her family against Marquette County Sheriff Joseph Konrath for violating the First and Fourteenth Amendment rights of the Oxford, Wisconsin teen, over the removal from the social media website of a picture of Coon in the hospital. “There are no circumstances that would allow law enforcement to police social media in this way,” said WILL Deputy Counsel Luke Berg in a statement Thursday. “At a moment when civil liberties need to be guarded most, the Marquette County Sheriff must be held accountable.”

Re the "flying rods" from the last thread. They are artifacts of insects flying at a high angular speed relative to the camera field.
Another common artifact that has much purchase in the Woo-woo world is "orbs". Read all about that and the woo theories of what they are.
Orbs are causing by dust reflecting light from the flash.

Here are some thoughts on it:
- I think it was bigger than the City expected. The traffic jam on the main drag that goes in front of the capitol (Lincoln) extended to the vanishing point. On my first pass, it was traffic mayhem. As I approached the capitol itself, the cops descended and started to try to control traffic (erecting roadblocks on side streets, directing traffic away from main choke points, etc.). It was partially successful, but lots of people were running the road blocks anyway.
- On Capitol Hill at it's peak, I'd estimate about a thousand people. The press photographers didn't show up until it was petering out, so I reckon that any press coverage will show a dud with few people and little traffic.
- Most protesters were on-message. There are always fringe elements and in this instance they were mostly anti-vaxxers and a guy loudly trying to convert any Jews there into Christians. For the most part, though, it was about the shutdown, liberties, small business, etc.
- Little counter-protest. There was one authentic counter-protester on Capitol Hill. Many people who live in the area were riding bikes or scooters around and flipping off protesters and shouting at them - from things like "go back to Weld County" (a more rural county) to "I hope you get Coronavirus" to just expletives.
- East of the capitol, there were what I suspect are paid counter-protesters. They were dressed in scrubs and masks and came out to block one of the major roads parallel to the capitol. I was first in line at the light when they came out, so I shouted at the bint in front of me, "you do realize that this is a one-way street and most of the side streets are closed, right? Do you get that you're actually *contributing* to Project Gridlock by doing this?" Then they got mad, broke ranks and started tearing signs off of people's cars. When the started to congratulate each other and stopped paying attention, traffic started to slalom between them.
- A good mix of ages at the protest proper. I'd say it was about 60% Gen-X, about 30% millennials, and the rest boomers and Zs.
- Most of the cars in the gridlock part of everything locked down traffic pretty badly and most were flying flags (US flag, Gadsden flag, Betty Ross flag most common) and had signs. Everyone made liberal use of the horn.
- The city was either engaging in pretending that nothing was going on, or they were really caught flat-footed, because they were (slowly and inefficiently) running buses through the mess.

I actually sit in on two, one (my wife's) is pretty professionally done, and one (that's more or less mine) is still getting their feet under them.
But yeah, being able to crawl out of bed, wander out to the couch, and scratch yourself during the service kinda takes a bit of the moment out of it.

There's no math or even romper room 'rithmetic in Sudoku. If you want to analyze it and right programs to solve and create them, math is very useful of course.
It's just a game of arranging things according to a certain pattern. You could use letters or any set of symbols you like instead of numbers.

Did get to spend time with great friends yesterday and today caught an 18.5" (maybe mjnus a mm or 2) smalley and 2 nice crappie.
All on light action rod w/6lb test line.
Healthy, chunky fish too.
The fishing tolks will know what that was like.
Tomorrow I'll have a rod out for blue cat and hopefully catch a handful more crappie to add to those 2 to make a nice batch (for a single guy) for the freezer.
Still eating sandwiches off the last batch I fried up.

Miley is into Sudoku, and managed to get my mother addicted to them as well. Their interest prompted me to write a routine to solve them.
It works well enough, and will solve most of them in no time flat. However, one time, one of them threw it for a loop. Big time. It got the right answer, but only after an hour of iterating.
The trouble was that one just happened to be arranged such that my program had to take just about the longest possible "guess path" to arrive at the solution.
The trouble was I need to up my deterministic detection. I'd put a few simple ones, and when those were exhausted, it just began to guess from the candidates.
To avoid that long iteration possibility (which has only happened once), I need to go to more complicated deterministic detection schemes.

I have had both. The Chinese stuff was at a free tasting, it was godawful. This is what they tortured Nixon with. I did buy a bottle of the Japanese stuff out of curiosity. It is hard to find and pretty much impossible if you don't have an Asian population. You might be able to find it at a good Japanese restaurant.
I found one bottle and it was ok at first. For sure it it higher quality and all natrual. I think they make it out of sweet potatoes. A bottle will cost you around $30 which is way more than soju. The first few shots are ok but after a while that stink comes in. The Japanese drink a lot more shochu than sakai. that is not well known here.

Miley razzed me about that as well. Why do you want to write a program to do it. I had also written a routine to solve some of these word jumble puzzles in the paper that my mother does as well. When she can't figure one out, bam, I can tell her the answer.
Miley couldn't understand that -- don't you want to solve it for yourself. I explained that, on the contrary I am solving the myself. I wrote a program to do it, that program is my brain working so to speak. The computer just does the tedious work. My brain solved it once, generally, and the slave computer does the grunt work.

I disagree.
The key to Sudoku is understanding the personality types of the different numbers, and from that basic psychologic understanding, then making educated guesses about their preferred positions within the given puzzle grid.
Ones are straightforward.
Fives are sneaky bastidges.
Never trust a seven any further than you can throw it.
Threes, sixes and nines tend to congregate.
And it matters how you write the number. Twos need a squiggly tail, fours have to be closed at the top and eights have to be 'snowman' style, two separate ovals stacked up.
Don't attempt logic.

Definitely see very positive trends for all of the 19 states I follow--even though it is clear that some of the death stats are juiced up some days (for the obvious, and heinous reasons of higher reimbursements, or perhaps to prove the "narrative).
What is interesting is to see the % of "closed cases" that are increasingly ending in recovery, praise God.
Also am starting to look at some variables to look at different levels of ubiquity of the crud-flu. Density, presence of a major international gateway and date of first infection appear to be statistically significant. Avg. age of population and comorbidities we know are an issue with likelihood of survival (or not) but it is hard to get a decent publicly available data set to represent those.
But interestingly, and as I expected, average temperature does appear to affect prevalence of the crud flu. No surprise--just think of NYC where not only is it cold, dense, highly international and has mass transit, but also the buildings are tall and limit how easily sunlight can get to the street.

You could probably cook off at least the input stage, if you had a tight enough beam, and maybe the whole circuit board. Just resistive heating might do the job, without even worrying about matching the frequencies.
You could power it with an inverter from a car battery, at least for short bursts.
I think I'd try pulling out the entire magnetron board and the waveguide, to avoid having to fabricate those. Then point the waveguide into your dish.

I have been really disappointed by PA. They gave Trump the victory in 2016 and that was big freaking deal. Since then it has been all downhill. To bad because large sections of PA are as pro Trump as anywhere in the country. I have seen their signs, they are permanent signs made out of wood. You are right that the nursing home component is huge. Not just in PA, but also in VA, NJ, TX and MI that I know of. WSJ had an article on it this week but as is sadly true these days not a very in-depth or well researched piece.
I think you are spot on Black Orchid, regarding the int'l travel aspect. FWIW, NY is 1.5X more dense than PA (state level figures--city to city would be different but as I recall Philly is not quite as tall as NYC. I worked in the latter for many years).
PA is also warmer on average by several degrees.

There's no math or even romper room 'rithmetic in Sudoku. If you want to analyze it and right programs to solve and create them, math is very useful of course.
It's just a game of arranging things according to a certain pattern. You could use letters or any set of symbols you like instead of numbers.

the nursing home thing is really sad when you think about it. Obviously someone from the outside brings it in and the residents have no place to go to prevent it. I know it is more easily said than done, but avoiding nursing homes in general is a good idea if you can do it. I am talking about the residents here, best not to be one.

I'll try.
50/50 ground meat and ground pork. Lots of fresh chopped Italian parsley, more than you think you need. A hefty amount of grated Parmigiano Regiano cheese (none of that boxed garbage or the cheaper American stuff); don't skimp, at least a cup. 1-2 eggs depending on the meat amount; figure about 1 large egg for every 2-3 pounds of meat. A good dose of powdered garlic, 2 or so teaspoons. A good sprinkling of fresh-cracked black pepper, about a teaspoon. 1-2 teaspoons of dried basil. Gently mix well (don't over mix as it toughens the meatball). Shape into 2-3 inch diameter meatballs. Cook the meatballs in a skillet in batches, browning all 'sides'. (They don't have to be completely cooked as they finish cooking in the sauce.) Make your favorite sauce and submerge the meatballs in the sauce and cook, stirring gently, for as long as you want, at least 4 hours.
With three pounds of meat, you should get around 20-22 meatballs.
To taste test your meatball mix, make a small, teeny tiny burger and cook it first. Taste that and see if you want to add more of something.

Glad I went the way I did - I really prefer buying decent products that will last (increasingly difficult, across all categories, and NOT just Chi-Nah issues).

sounds great, you cook like I do it seems. I never simmered them for four hours so I have to try that. I know Italian Americans would make a sugo sauce or Sunday Gravy and cook it for hours and hours. I have done that a few times but mostly make marinara. I even cheat with jarred stuff at times.
But the meatballs are always on point and the ingredients are legit. Just like making the pasta just right, it takes a lot of practice. Now it is as comfortable as anything as I make spaghetti weekly and have done so for decades. Sure there are other pastas and recipes, but I am glad I call it spaghetti because that is what it is.

I used to go as far as making my own cannoli shells. But things happen and time became a factor. I usually use Rao's if I use a jar but not always. I have used Barrilla and few others. I even used Prego just for a change. I hadn't had that in probably 30 years. I still like to make it from scratch with San Marzanos. Never ever will I use ragu. That is another thing from the 70s.

You'd be surprised at how long I cook the beef cubes in the broth before I add the barley when I make my beef barley soup. Which I have to make again -- soon. I like to make a big batch of some soup (navy bean, split pea, carrot-ginger, beef or mushroom barley, curried lentil) and freeze bowl-sized portions so that I have my own varieties to choose from when I want soup.
Now it is as comfortable as anything as I make spaghetti weekly and have done so for decades. Sure there are other pastas and recipes, but I am glad I call it spaghetti because that is what it is.

I use the # 9 spaghetti. The 'Goldilocks' spaghetti: Not too thick and not too thin.
I also use the restaurant trick to make the servings. I precook the spaghetti al dente and drain. In a large skillet I put in the sauce and turn the heat on medium low Then I add the spaghetti to finish cooking, adding more sauce as the pasta soaks up the sauce. My Mom didn't do that but doing that really flavors the pasta.
And there's never enough parm cheese on it.

Then I unscrewed the barrel out of my Chinese Mystery Pistol, in an effort to determine if it could be screwed in further in order to correct an apparent headspace issue. Answer is no. A shoulder on the forward end of the threaded area precludes that. Probably the best solution is for me to buy a Tokarev TT-30 barrel, and adapt that. They are fairly inexpensive, too.
Then I cut some panel board, and finished the interior walls of the closet for my guest bedroom. Next step is to put down some click-together laminate flooring in the closet. Got to establish that floor level, in order to get the opening the correct height for the bifold door.

I also use the restaurant trick to make the servings. I precook the
spaghetti al dente and drain. In a large skillet I put in the sauce
and turn the heat on medium low Then I add the spaghetti to finish
cooking, adding more sauce as the pasta soaks up the sauce. My Mom
didn't do that but doing that really flavors the pasta.
And there's never enough parm cheese on it.

for sure I cook it until just before al dente and finish in in the sauce. Yeah, in the old days everyone just poured the sauce on top. We know better now. And depending on the sauce, a bit of the starchy water can be thrown in, it helps keep is from drying too quickly and the starch can help bring structure to a thin sauce.
one thing you did not spell out before but for sure you know. I am only saying for others, don't ever get pre grated parigiano reggiano. Grate it yourself when you need it.
I wish i took that effort with soups and stocks. I have done it for sure. I even make ice cubes out of fresh stock four sauces. But no way I do this regularly. It would be awesome to have homemade soup ready in the freezer whenever you want it.,

I have never gotten into Sudoku, or similar puzzles. I used to do the NYT crossword puzzle in ballpoint pen, quite routinely. Been years since I did that. I enjoy solving puzzles if there is a tangible reward, like getting my truck to run again.

I make three types of eggplant parm, depending on my mood. My mood most times is traditional, breaded eggplant, sauce, ricotta, mozzarella and parm. Sometimes I go for a veggie one adding sliced mushrooms, Kalamata olives, walnuts and a layer of roasted (and peeled) red pepper. Then there is the one with the eggplant and sliced salami, cappicola and pepperoni, or another combination of Italian cold cuts, even sweet or hot precooked crumbled sausage and pepperoni. I like pepperoni.

Sold around here as a "hula hoe". That's what I used today. They say it works on the pull stroke too, but in the hard packed dirt in my driveway, only the push stroke can get 'er done. Mostly. I placed a rubber crutch tip on the end of the handle, and wear gloves while using it. Result: no blisters.

Can the programs solve more complex sudokus? like the ones that put a cross in them or an X pattern that also has to match up. Or the ones that don't use the 3X3 patter and instead are different shaped. Or the ones that are all color coded?

i haven't tried it but I have heard a few chefs mention using cottage cheese in place of riccotta or at least along with it. I was never a cottage cheese fan but the last time I had it was ages ago. I have heard or recipes where they say it is an improvement on old school recipes.

One time I made shrimp cocktail, I bought shrimp with the heads on. So I cut off the heads and peeled the shrimp and cooked them in my flavored boil. Chilled (stored in a glass container in layers with thin sliced lemon). Served with homemade cocktail sauce, sometimes with fresh chopped cilantro for a change of pace.
But I did not discard those heads and shells. Put them into a heavy duty sauce pan and dry stir cooked until they turned pink. Then I added lots of water to cover and simmered down over low heat for a few hours. (Make sure your kitchen exhaust is up and running as it is stinky.) Once I got it to a golden hue, I strained it. I froze it and later used it to make a linguini (adding some of the shrimp stock to the water) with shrimp and sliced fresh-pitted green olives and a red sauce with more shrimp stock added. Made that one up on the fly and it was good.
But for me, the best broth to make at home is beef bone broth. The smell is intoxicating while simmering (better than any pot pourri) and goes into lots of things. Also freezes well.
/My grandmas would be proud that I cook bones to make my own beef/pork/chicken broths. Don't really make a whole turkey anymore but if I did, I'd make turkey broth, too. Waste not, want not.

I made that shrimp shell stock once too. I saved the shells in the freezer until I had enough. I think the idea was to make a boullibaise. I don't recall how it turned out but I did try that.
I have done a tonne of chicken stock over the years but never went all out and made a beef stock.

Let us stipulate that the arm in question will be the venerable 10 ga., 3-1/2" shell. Lots of single shots, double barrels, and Marlin made a pump-action in this bore for a while.
In WWII The U.S. Military had perfected the Radar Proximity Fuse for Anti-Aircraft work. Most of those were affixed to the 5 inch projectiles as fired by the 5/38 and 5/50, Dual Purpose Naval Rifles.
Later in the war, smaller and cheaper fuzes found their way onto 40mm Bofors shells.
With the gunlaying provided by radar control, those shells would detonate when the circuit sensed being near enough to a radar-reflective object (enemy aircraft), that it would explode in close proximity to the enemy plane.
Well, we won't have the radar guidance.
But with modern miniaturization, and dirt-cheap circuitry, we can haz the fuze.
Let's avoid though, Federal Lockup for an truly explosives-based shell?
How bout a pre-HIGH-PRESSURIZED sphere of some suitable gas in the shell, arranged as to deploy a cloud of Carbon Dust into the air immediately surrounding the offending drone.

I hear ya, I load a lot of stuff for my bolt rifles, .223, .308 but still keep a lot of factory stuff on hand. I shoot my old ruger standard pistol for fun a lot along with the .308 and . 223. The nines and the .357 get shot less. Also love to shoot skeet with my niece. We don't go in order but switch it up a lot for quail practice. The most relaxed I ever feel is when I come home from shooting long range.

If anyone wants to see that Suduko solver, I'd be glad to let you have the source code. It's in a git repository, and I could sign up for a Github account and publish it there, allowing anyone to download/clone it.
I'll have to figure out how to create the github account.
It's written in C, plain old C, and is a command line program. Input is from a text file with the Sudoku entered in.
Also, it makes use of an arg parser library I wrote, which is a work in progress, so I'd have to put that in there. And document the user interface for it too.
My code is very poorly commented and cryptic, I must warn. I would not want to try to figure out my own code. Not a team player I am on programming.

That's getting into a whole lot of engineering to accomplish what could be done more simply, I think.
Remember the old Gyrojet pistols (and carbine)? They had a light barrel, smooth bore, and the rounds were small rockets burning smokeless powder, ignited by a standard pistol primer, The butt end of each projectile had 4 rocket nozzles, inclined along tangent lines to the circle of the base, so that the rocket jets would impart spin, as well as accelerate the projectile to normal bullet velocity.
Anybody with a small lathe could build those projectiles. One would need to build a jig to drill the canted holes, but with a good jig, the drilling would take only seconds per hole. Might be amenable to being made by 3D printer, too.
Now you take a slab of tough plastic like Delrin or UHMW, and drill a row of holes in it. There are your barrels. Instead of having springs and strikers to fire the primers, you have a row of sharpened steel nails, spring-loaded to lightly press the primers. And you can dump the full output of the drone's storage battery into those nails. Just like a spot welder. The primers will cook off in a tiny fraction of a second, I expect.
You mount this thing on your quadcopter drone, and use the drone's power supply to run it. Have it bore-sighted to line up with the drone's forward-looking camera at, say, 10 yards. Someone on a thread yesterday made a really great point that was being glossed over by everyone who is usually concerned about this sort of thing.
Blacks were the bulk of the people riding the subways and working in the nursing homes in places like NYC and NJ, and then they'd take it back to their families, homes, and communities. They represent somewhere around half of the COVID deaths while only 14% of the population. IIRC last week blacks were 100% of COVID deaths in St. Louis.
But shh... We can't talk about that or it would be too awkward for the Democrat mayors to explain why they don't think black lives matter.

I don't know. Rooster Cogburn was not painted as a bad guy, not as evil, except by the elements who hated him and didn't want him to handle the outlaws he captured as they needed. He was rough, very rough, but not evil. Mattie is the protagonist in True Grit, and she's hard-edged even at 14 and sometimes a little hard to like, but never evil. So I'm not sure where the "redemption" would come in with that novel.
We've seen this recent years on TV: Angel and Xena: Warrior Princess come to mind. Both were working the good side of the street to atone for horrible things they did in earlier years.

We had a older neighbor that worked on Hydroelectric turbines. Got to travel and would be away month or so at a time. One of the requirements for the job was, no alcohol or marijuana, 24 hours before working. Since quite often they would work 10 or 14 days straight (HA) while the turbines were shut down, this was not acceptable to the younger workers.
Good pay, time off, travel.....nope, gotta get my buzz on.
