One thing I have noticed up here about gun shops - they either have a range or participate in a range and allow the intended purchaser to practice with a similar weapon before purchasing. This gives the newly weapon owner a feel for the action a weapon has, the accuracy...just what to expect when they pull the trigger.
I get that this isn't necessary much down south, we fired many different caliber firearms down range long before we cam into the store. But up here? Forget about it...these people are dangerous. Posted by: Boswell at April 10, 2020 05:52 PM (32YRo) 76

Funny story. A few weeks back. I went to pick up a gun from Cabela's. It's a long drive from my house but it was an amazing deal. Like half what my other friends had paid for it. I had ordered it online (it has to be shipped to the store naturally) This was before all this crap hit when I ordered it but by the time it came in, the word had gotten out that the Gov of MN. was going to shut things down in 2 days. I walked in and they had entrances blocked, only 50 people in the store at a time. Of course I am in line like right next to people FFS. There were people you knew didn't even know how to load a gun, much less use it. It was a 2.5 hour wait before they could even get to me for a gun I had paid for already. But it is a long drive both ways so I waited. But these people were shocked, flabbergasted you had to get a permit to purchase and then wait! Wut! I have my carry permit so no biggie but. Holy crap, these people were amazed at the pain in the ass they make it.

They do not have any experience with guns and are out buying them now. It is funny to hear them go off over how hard it was to get guns and that so much of what they knew was not what they knew. Anyone know anything about "Amazon Fresh" orders? I am trying to make an order, which they tout as being the classiest and easiest and fastest and best ind of ordering on Amazon -- but instead I find it to be basically impossible because one must select a specific delivery time, and yet none are available -- for the entire next month! And until one chooses the time, the order isn't actually made. So I'm sitting here with this "shopping cart" full of stuff I want to buy, but Amazon won't take the order, nor do they allow customers to make the same order on regular Amazon -- "Fresh" is like a whole separate system, with different products. Now what do I do? Just abandon the order? For four hours I've been trying to choose an appointment, since I was told by a "helpbot" that new delivery slot windows open up throughout the day -- but if they do, I keep missing them. And it's super-frustrating, because one must one-by-day click the button for each and every day and for each and every delivery type, just to see that they aren't available. Crazy and frustrating. @190: "Anyone know anything about "Amazon Fresh" orders?"
Fresh is a whole separate system, and separate from their Whole Foods ordering system on Amazon too. Basically, Fresh is a delivery service that uses local third party grocery stores and wholesalers for inventory, and kinda sorta like Instacart, but better organized top down. No waiting lists. Your best bet is refreshing the appointment page over and over again until someone ahead of you cancels an order and a slot opens up. It also helps to try immediately after 5pm or whenever they shift the calendar forward one day. It's a nice enough service with good price on pantry stuff, but yeah, pain in the ass for delivery times when they're busy. Posted by: Walter Freeman at April 10, 2020 06:15 PM (+oVP5) 218

Ordered a new pistol online at Sportsman's Warehouse. What should have taken five days to have shipped to the store took about 10 or 11 days. When they called and said it was there I went down to fill out the 4473. Because the CBI had a backlog of 14,000 applications I was told it would be 8 days for approval. While I was waiting at the counter, some young hispanic kid came in and wanted a pistol. Clerk asked him for carry or home defense. Kid said I dunno, both I guess. Clerk pulls a Glock 9mm off the wall, drops the mag, and locks the slide open. He hands it to the kid, the first thing he does is put his finger on the trigger and sweeps the clerk. I really wanted to tell him to get his booger hook off the bang stick, but I bit my tongue. When he found out it would be 8 days before he could think about picking the gun up, providing he passed, he kind of lost interest.

I can absolutely attest to the scurrying of Liberals to buy guns, and their shock at learning they've been lied to about what it takes to do that.
As mentioned a few weeks ago here, my brother, a Democrat voter, was pissed at his inability to buy a gun in California where he has rightly become highly concerned about the number of criminals released with no housing and no employment prospects in his area. That combines with restless youth out of school and taught how very special and untouchable they are, has resulted in a metric ton of illicit night time activities that the police wont even acknowledge, let alone respond to. I thoroughly enjoyed laughing out loud when he asked me to mail him one of my pea shooters. Then last week a neighbor that I suspect strongly of having a lot of liberal on them, asked if they could borrow a gun to keep in the house since there have been a couple instances of night time prowling nearby. "Sorry man. The law just past in this state says that I can't even let my wife use one of my guns in my own house. I'll be glad to answer the phone, but you can't have my gun." I imagine that within the next couple of weeks we're going to see a lot more reports of accidental shootings. Most of these people won't bother to even look at a firearm safety course. That coupled with a number of ranges closed the number of classes goes down. And the ranges that are open are going to cater to their members and limit the number of people per class. I know the range I'm a member of up in Broomfield has been closed by the local authorities.

Posted by: TSgt Ciz at April 10, 2020 06:24 PM (af5xa) I'd feel sorry, especially if they learned anything. Your brother in particular voted for this shit. I'm getting skittish in that my formerly rural town has been absorbed by the growing cancer that is silicon valley. It was like somebody flicked a switch, and suddenly for every Tesla driving, latte sipping man bun fam, we've got 2 homeless and 3 illegals. I never had to worry about keeping a loaded sidearm next to my bed, but now I do just that. I feel bad for those that are closer to (or in) the cities. There really are sane people in CA, and I think both of us hang here frequently. Posted by: clutch cargo at April 10, 2020 06:33 PM (8B6Ng) 298

Posted by: Jane D'oh at April 10, 2020 06:31 PM (ptqGC) Im not exactly sure what you mean, but I think I do: the other day the HEB everyone was on their little x'es waiting in line, except the group directly behind me who were visiting from houston. They were a group of 4-5, were not relatives (I was privy to much of their conversation) and they actually bumped into me a few times - they were that close. Not that I cared, but it was interesting. Tickled to see the gun and ammo sales.
And it's not just "liberals" who generally have no idea what's involved in buying a gun. My anecdotal experience is that almost nobody who hasn't done it really understands. Which is not *that* shocking to me. People do what they do, know quite a bit about things they're involved in, often, much less about other things. Had one fun experience with an old friend who found a CZ27 his dad must have bought overseas in military service. I took over, had a gunsmith totally disassemble/clean and check it, then took my friend to the range to try it out. He's not a gun guy and won't be, but it was interesting that everything about the process of even dealing with an "off the grid" gun like his was a complete mystery to him. Posted by: Insomniac - Ex Cineribus Resurgo at April 10, 2020 07:01 PM I would say it's a lot like a sports team trying to sign a free agent. If it's a winning organization, free agents line up to sign with that team. But if it's a losing organization, free agents will say "okay, I'll sign with your team, but you're going to have to throw some serious cash my way to make it worthwhile to play for a shitty team". So yeah, it is just that easy, so long as she sees you as a 'winning organization'. Posted by: Clyde Shelton at April 10, 2020 07:06 PM (Do5/p) 476
What's annoying to me is the masked shoppers who look confused and scared when our eyes me. I'm definitely smiling at them, I can tell they aren't smiling at me. Maybe they are scared of me because I don't have on a mask. OR maybe they feel silly and insecure.

Florida man?
Step aside. Make way for Florida WOMAN: https://miami.cbslocal.com/2020/04/10/florida-woman-accused-porn-filled-easter-eggs-mailboxes/ Florida Woman Accused Of Leaving Porn Filled Easter Eggs In People's Mailboxes "MIAMI (CBSMiami/CNN) -- A Palm Coast woman was arrested after she reportedly put plastic eggs filled with pornographic images in mailboxes. Flagler County Sheriff Rick Staly said his deputies arrested Abril Cestoni, 42, moments after she placed unwanted pornographic materials in a mailbox. The sheriff said evidence was also recovered from her vehicle. "I am authorized to do research" she could be heard telling deputies on body cam video. "You're authorized to distribute pornographic material?" a deputy asked. "I am authorized to do research. My organization is research," she replied. At various times Cestoni claimed to be a church but she also ranted against churches, claiming the explicitly sexual pictures in plastic easter eggs were her way of calling out church leaders...." I went to Kroger's this morning for Easter shopping. Not crowded, found everything I wanted. I didn't need TP or paper goods so took a pass on those - but they had them.
It is almost, but not quite, back to normal except for the masks and skittish few. I skipped the Boomer hours and went in about 1000. I feels like the tide has turned in my AO. Posted by: Tonypete at April 10, 2020 07:07 PM (Y4EXg) 479

Speaking of ass zits- when I was 13 or 14, I remember once lying on my stomach on the living room floor, reading my latest issue of Mad. I was wearing the cotton shorts I typically slept in, and nothing more. I rolled over and felt a sharp pain in my right buttock. Traveling to the bathroom to investigate, I twisted my torso around and noted, in the mirror, a large, bright red pimple on my backside, which I could certainly feel and almost see throbbinh to the rhythm of my pulse. It's location made it impossible to reach with two hands, but I was able to scissor two fingers on either side. Honestly, I don't think I even applied pressure, but the eruption that immediately followed felt like it shook my whole being. Pretty sure it scarred me for life.

Chris M, right, while the safety rules are logical and common sense at some level, they're not automatic to everyone.
I do support generous/aggressive/flexible *education* for any gun owners that want it. And like the store owner cited I support dealers pushing the idea. It's not a unique situation, just a distinctive one. Driving a car, operating a chainsaw or certain heavy industrial tools, skydiving, hang-gliding, on and on - all things that call for some instruction, or a lot. Which is completely separate from the 2A. Talking suggesting and making available, not requiring. Posted by: rhomboid at April 10, 2020 07:09 PM (El6T/) 488

Posted by: WitchDoktor, turns out lots of people give a damn! at April 10, 2020 06:58 PM (4k/Uz) ----------------------- I went to Costco yesterday and our Kroger owned grocery today. Neither place had toilet paper, although Costco had plenty of paper towels, and liquid soap. Costco is letting 20 people in at a time, and no longer drawing on your receipt, you hold it up to a plastic wall and the clerk waves you out. At both stores, maybe half of the employees and a little less than that of the customers were masked. Fewer were gloved. Everyone was respectful and stayed out of each other's way. The checkout lines at Kroger extended far down the aisles to accommodate the 6 foot biz. Made it hard to shop since everyone waiting to checkout was blocking the food. Unfortunately, they won't learn from their mistakes. If they had the ability to self-reflect and learn from their mistakes in lieu of blaming someone else, they wouldn't be leftists.
But more importantly, Larry Correia had a blog post back after Trump had been elected when a slew of unhinged leftists genuinely believed that Orange Man Bad was the Second Coming of Hitler and rushed out to buy guns...only to discover that they'd been lied to about how "easy" it was to buy a gun. (One of these lunatics was good old Ana Marie "Wonkette" Cox, if you recall) You would think they would have learned then, but nope. Leftists only LARP at having high IQs by pretending to enjoy watching Cosmos. So of course they didn't learn and went right back to voting for yet more draconian gun laws, and when this stupidity is all over, they'll perform another brain dump, forget the lesson, and go right back to voting for yet more "sensible" gun control.
