The Morning Rant

talking ape 02 mask.jpg

Apparently, there's been a (another) rule change in regards to how we are to think about and deal with sexual harassment allegations that you all should familiarize yourself with. So, in order to set the proper context, we need to review a little history.

When George Bush nominated Clarence Thomas to the Supreme Court in 1991, the Democrats brought forward one of his assistants, Anita Hill, who accused him of sexually harassing her. This, of course, caused an immediate firestorm since nothing like that had ever happened before, and while the Republicans all wanted to examine her story for veracity, the Democrats took the line that she should be believed without question because a woman doesn't lie about things like that, and even so, it's not the credibility of the witness or the veracity of the evidence that matters, it's the seriousness of the charges that's important. That is, the crimes that Clarence Thomas is alleged to have committed are so heinous that the mere accusation should be enough to disqualify him from a seat on the Supreme Court.

And the final vote was very close (52-48 ). The Democrats very nearly succeeded. My own view is that Clarence Thomas' fiery closing speech, wherein he described what the Democrats were doing to him as "a high-tech lynching," is probably what saved him.

Now fast forward a few years. Bill Clinton is in office, and it turns out he is receiving sexual favors from a White House intern, Monica Lewinsky. There is little doubt of his guilt. But when the hapless GOP tries to apply the same standard the Democrats used against Clarence Thomas, they discover that the rules have been changed. The zero-tolerance rule is no longer in effect. The predator is now allowed one free grope, and *then* the zero-tolerance standard kicks in. Feminist icon Gloria Steinem even took to the page of the New York Times to explain the switcheroo and why it wasn't a blatant double standard, no not really.

During the Bush II years, you didn't hear much from radical feminists. It was as if they were in hibernation. The national focus on Islamic terrorism was partly responsible for some of this, but I think the main reason was that their ardent defense of all-pro horndog Bill Clinton made them look like a bunch of horses' asses and they were more or less laughed off the national stage. They didn't re-emerge until the Obama years.

And now we come to the Kavanaugh SCOTUS nomination. Again, the GOP is caught off guard by Democratic chicanery, this time, by an after-the-clock-has-run-out entry into the sexual harassment sweepstakes, and This Time We Mean It Because Serious, You Guys, with a witness with far less credibility than even the most skeptical interpretation of Anita Hill's testimony, with zero corroboration and zero witnesses. And now we're back to the Clarence Thomas rules, and my personal view, and I may be in the minority here, is that the Republicans on the Judiciary Committee should have gone after Doctor Christine Blaisey Doctor Ford hard, like they did with Anita Hill, and asked her about things such as her scrubbed internet history and that mousey little voice she was affecting, because she was such an obvious liar, her fraudulent testimony should've been exposed as such, and perhaps even followed up with perjury charges.

I'm still mad about that, and how the Democrats have basically paid no price for their assault on Brett Kavanaugh. Other than Cocaine Mitch confirming a record number of Trump's judicial picks, which very well may be the best revenge.

But now comes Tara Reade (no, not the actress), a former staffer of Joe Biden, who alleges that years ago, Biden sexually assaulted her by forcing his fingers inside her (an incident which she told a number of friends about at the time). Me, I'm kind of skeptical due to the number of years that have passed, but the Kavanaugh rules dictate that Biden be driven from public life.

However, the NY Times came to the rescue and announced a rule change, as you can see in their tweet below (now deleted) where they basically exonerate Sniffy Joe. And it's because, if I may paraphrase, Reade's story can't be corroborated and also because none of Biden's former staff had anything like that happen to them aside -- from the usual groping and sniffing that Joe usually does.

So these new new rules are even better than the old new rules. With the old new rules, you had a free grope 'n' sniff, and that was that. Under the new new rules, you get to continue to do all of the groping and sniffing you want, just like you've always done.

Airhead actress Alyssa Milano, who led the charge against Kavanaugh, is now twisting herself into knots defending Joe Biden. We're now at the stage where 'Believe All Women' has been turned into 'Believe Some Women More Than Other Women.'

Friday's celebs: I thought it would be fun to do another Flash Gordon themed 'who dis', only this time, I used the stars from the 1936 Flash Gordon. What I found notable was that the man looks more handsome than the woman looks beautiful. It was hard to find decent photos of Priscilla Lawson, who played Princess Aura where you can really see her beauty. But good photos of Buster Crabbe are plentiful. Something else I found impressive about Crabbe:j a man in Hollywood with Crabbe's looks could get any woman he wanted, but he married in 1933 and was still married to the same woman when he died in 1983, 50(!) years later. That has to be some kind of a Hollywood record.

We're now at the stage where 'Believe All Women' has been turned into 'Believe Some Women More Than Other Women.'

It has always been "believe all women who are aligned properly with the advancing interests of the state" and nothing but that.

Attacking Kavanaugh was aligned with state interest. Attacking Biden is not. Therefore, Ford was believed. Reade was not.

Hey, Tater. Have a seat over there, pal. We need to talk. I know you probably don't remember high school civics and, given your age, it was probably useless anyway.

Hush, now, Tater, and listen. We need you to learn about devolution of powers and the power structure in the United States. If you stop to think about it, it's right there in the name of the country - a "union of states."

I know, Tater. I know this is hard for you. But please try to pay attention. I'll go pull the blinds so you're not distracted by tree branches and squirrels outside.

Federal power is sourced from the states. This is why we have the 10th amendment and enumerated powers. This notion that appalls you so much has name, and it's called "Federalism." This is right and proper. The Federal Government does not own or command the State Governments. They are independent unless it involves specific powers.

133 Speaking of rants, here is a rant from the former executive director of a "progressive" nonprofit in Seattle who thinks that the masks should be dropped, and that "progressive" nonprofits and foundations should become explicitly left-wing political vehicles, because #OrangeManBad.

If we truly believe it is critical, we need a pledge of 600 foundations promising to give funds to stop Trump's and McConnell's reelection, and all of us need to be engaged in ensuring the most marginalized people can vote.

Two things: one, any nonprofit believing this rant is going to be in a lot of trouble with the IRS, since there are severe restrictions on nonprofit political activity.

And two, if foundations do this, it will be a wonderful opportunity to review their nonprofit status after Trump is reelected. One of the real sources of rot in American society is the pernicious influence of "progressive" nonprofits - colleges and universities, as well as institutions like the Ford Foundation. Why these unaccountable institutions are allowed to accumulate billions of dollars tax-free for generations is something that really needs to be reexamined.

The rant:

...
Posted by: Tonypete at April 13, 2020 11:28 AM (Y4EXg)
++++++++++++++++
I went to college in the Before Times, when most loans were private. For me, it was based on estimated total cost of attendance - so tuition (fixed, known), books (unfixed, estimated), room and board (fixed and known if on campus, estimated if off campus). So if you have anything left over, you can technically spend it on anything you want.

So I think this foolish girl (if it's real, and boy I hope it is) meant "what was left of her student loans" went to Bernie - i.e., she gave it away instead of holding on to it for the next semester.

This is also awesome because she'd be in this position *anyway.* Even if Bernie won the nomination *and* won the election, the soonest you'd be able to shove student loan cancellation through would be probably July or August of 2021, and that's if you have a clear road.

She'd be in this predicament no matter what. Does she think that Bernie wins and then student loans get canceled that day after the election results come in on TV?

--------------

Practically speaking, I believe only Trump can open this thing up - not by direct action per se but by setting the tone and telling the governors to open - which would give them political cover.

But I find this an odd tweet by the President.

I'll have to wait to see what his decision is. Right now I won't make too much of it.

219 So it just kinda hit me while reading through the comments on the Morning Report that the demographics of the people dying due to this virus are perfect for the Democrats.

Considering the Democrats/Left does not care one whit about killing people --- for crying out loud, they *brag* about choosing to murder babies in order to further their careers.

So the people who have succumbed the most to COVID-19 are the elderly (typically Republican voters) and Blacks (typically Democrat voters).

But Democrats don't really care about Blacks, considering they all worship at the altar of Margaret Sanger and Planned Parenthood and eugenics. Not to mention, you never hear Democrats or Leftists up in arms about Blacks killing each other in places like Chicago and Baltimore and Detroit, etc.

So Blacks dying makes no difference to them, except they get to use it as a great talking point like the Michigan AG wench did this past week.

Now add in the elderly are dying and not only can the Left eliminate a typical Republican voting bloc, but they also can use their usual talking point about Republican policies "killing grandma".

And they talking to this one guy with a beard like ZZ Top and an Ozarks accent, and he's saying "Yep I saw her right out back o' my workshop behind the house, I was in there and it was jes' about dusk, and she came up to the window and looked right at me real close, and I figured it was a she since she walked a way kinda slow like, and I got a good look, and her hair was real purty."

Yup.
First, she was in position to benefit from blowing the boss: he was trying to get her a cushy job at DoD (IIRC) or barring that with one of his VIP political friends. That sets a precedent that bypasses to direct demand for sex in exchange for employment, as in: everyone in the office knows that the way to get promoted is to blow the boss. Classic sexual harassment.

Second, people always seem to forget how he treated Lewinsky after. He used his WH staff to smear her as a crazy stalker -- the quintessential "bimbo eruption" response they had perfected during the campaign. I do wonder what she got in exchange for essentially letting him, his wife and creepy crew off the hook for all these years. "

Her pose of "I was the first victim of cyberbullying" is so very Clintonian, isn't it? She claims agency AND still maintains she was the biggest victim in all this -- while also excusing the Clinton crew of all responsibility for her "online harassment".

Recall Governor Whitmer. Her failure's during the Covid-19 Corona Virus is causing more Michiganders to get sick. Closing and banning various non essential business's and activities while leaving others open. Further promoting the pandemic. She has lied since day one with her #Fixthedamnroads which she has failed to do anything in this regards. The response to #PFAS was negligence and completely removing funding for #PureMichigan clearly shows her lack of anything positive for the State of Michigan.

________________

Yeah, it does sound made up, especially the part about donating her parents' check for her tuition to Bernie's campaign because she believed his promise about erasing student loan debt.

Now the check for her next semester's tuition won't clear and daddy's gonna disown her and throw her ass out? Uh, how exactly did she think that Bernie was going to get elected and magically get congress to pass a law erasing her student loan debt before next semester started (assuming it started when scheduled)?

The presidential election is not until November, and even in the unlikely event that Bernie had won, he wouldn't have been inaugurated until Jan. 2021 (and couldn't have waved a magic wand to erase student loans on Day One, but instead would have had to get congress to pass a law, which would have taken another year). Meanwhile, her "next semester's" tuition check would have bounced long ago.

We need some method of identifying those who are allowed to participate in society and those who are not. Perhaps we could make those who have not been infected wear yellow stars on their shirts. And since enforcement would bog down the police, we could deputize members of the public to check on people with yellow stars, perhaps give them brown shirts and red armbands.

Hey!

Posted by: Prof. Peter Schickele at April 13, 2020 12:07 PM (w1MTk)

335 I just sussed out the political battle we are having.

The problem is that "Pareto accounting" for social advancement allocates power by a proposed system of propriety, not representation of interests.

It gives power to those who can hold on to the claim to be the best rational advocates, because the goal is to rationally allocate powers and rights among contenders.

Pareto measures things by "harm". Which is why the libs will be damned if you get anything you want named "harm" and end up arguing that things which are visible harm aren't really harm.

E.g. if a Wahabbist guts your white sister, it's not really harm so much as growing pains toward the true balanced system. It's still *harm* to take a negative attitude toward Islamists.

The power is being able to define "who is harmed". And it should be no surprise to any observer of human nature that *this* struggle for the allocation of power ends up no more or no less than a simple struggle for power.

One side claims rationality (a central concept in Pareto accounting) and the ability to discern "harm" because these are concepts that define the right to allocate social change in this well-established "progressive" system.

What we are witnessing is a state where there is too much power built up in the CLAIMS of Pareto, that more willful actors can't resist seizing the mantle for just that power itself.

It was like this in 800 when King Otto of the HRE determined that monks were just the honest type of people he needed for his emissaries. So he distributed a modicum of power to anybody who would undertake a pretense at a monastic lifestyle. The honesty of the clergy gave way to the lure to un-landed nobles of having sway and office, or even peasants being given a path to ascension to power.

This was not a good development for either the Church or society in general.

What we are witnessing is a *complete* failure of the well-meaning, Pollyana assumptions of Pareto.

One of the inherent failures of Pareto is the idea that all harms are foreseeable by a rational actor. Pareto gives no value to the "perceived harms" and so what must accompany each re-evaluation in a Pareto system is *actual harm*. However, it also evaluates the extent that people who claim to the "rational" mantle will act rationally and *recognize* harm when it is not in their interest to. Pareto completely breaks down when you can "explain away" harm. Because harm IS the input into the system, it was the basis of any changes begun in the system. It SHOULD be used as feedback to check the moral calculations, if we can forestall the recognition of harm, we blunt that feedback.

It FAILS when you say "Yeah you--a WHITE PERSON--were 'harmed'--but YOUR PARENTS were WHITE and so, by definition harmed so many more ethnicities".

So, my latest epiphany is that Pareto has completely failed, and is failing daily, hourly. That the answer *should* be a return to consensus and an equal distribution of the power of a vote. Because the widest diversity of power restrains well-intentioned system and become power games.

353 Months ago at a national governors convention, Sec. Pompeo told them that Chinese intelligence was tracking all of them and rating how positive/negative they were to the CCP. Looks like it's not just governors:

After receiving emails from the Chinese consulate asking him to pass a resolution praising China for its fight against the coronavirus, which originated in China, Wisconsin Senate President Roger Roth (R-Appleton) wrote a resolution slamming China for lying about the coronavirus. . .

More at the Daily Wire. https://tinyurl.com/yx2tlzov

China contacted him several times, and even sent him their requested wording for the resolution that they wanted him to submit. Really tells you the level they are operating at re: sowing disinformation in the US. Would be interesting to take that draft resolution and see who did comply with their propaganda requests, whether it's at state level, media, think tanks, etc.

372 Democrats and the Left will always be the Party of Rape. They publicly shame victims as social climbers, sluts, liars, and worse. They create large organizations like Hollywood, built on sexual assault and rape, and ask us to worship their rapists as deities (see: Weinstein, Harvey). They tell us for 50 years that the Rapin' Kennedys are just fun-lovin' good ol' boys who are genuinely important historic figures living the life of Camelot. They elevate rape-groups like illegals, MS-13, and iSlime. They cover up the rampant sexual abuse in their union-driven school systems. And most egregious of all, they expect women to walk around alone as sitting sexual assault ducks in "gun free cities". It's not hypocrisy - they are just pricks who hate women... and nobody hates other women more than a "feminist".

There's a nice disclaimer on their data page:
* Data on recovered cases is unavailable.

And it doesn't help that there are differing standards even when data is public. In Tennessee, for example, "recovery" is going to take a long time based on their standards (which they gave *finally* disclosed):
TDH defines "recovered" as people who
(1) have been confirmed to be asymptomatic by their local or regional health department and have completed their required isolation period or
(2) are at least 21 days beyond the first test confirming their illness.

So no matter what, in essence, there is a minimum of 14 days - and usually 21 days - between "tested positive" and "recovered" (unless of course you die). So recovery data, if this is typical, is going to be *very* delayed.

It is so hilariously funny I can't stop laughing. It's called, choices have consequences. I hope you learn a valuable lesson from this - nothing is free, choosing one thing means you can't have another - and people who make good choices deserve better outcomes. Maybe you will learn that your entire philosophy is based on the false premise that everyone deserves to have the same outcome regardless of your choices. I hope things go really poorly for you in the short term, but in the adversity that you learn some important life lessons and learn most importantly to choose better, to invest wisely in things that will help you provide for yourself or someday possibly a family, and that you will learn that freedom to make good choices is 1,000,000 X better than any promise a crazy socialist wannabe tyrant will ever make to you.

So we're supposed to believe that massive numbers of people are currently infected and we're just lining up the meat wagons to haul them away once they've died?

I've noticed that the Recovered # has slowed down just this last week, in relation to the dead #. We have, supposedly ~500K infected. A death % of 40 would have ~200K dying. But only 5% cases are reported as "severe". But at a time when hospitalizations are declining, it's hard to see how 12K jumps to 200k.

This is why power should not be distributed to an "expert class". Because that puts power into the manipulation of expert representations.

I've read a number of 'articles' based on what 'experts' in my field say.

Two things jump to mind.

1. They usually are not the ones writing the articles, and the press, not being expert, don't understand the material.

2. Almost every time an 'expert' in the field is quoted, its not someone I would really listen to. Because TRUE experts in their fields are too busy working IN their fields, to bother with the Press.

Its like the Fox or CNN Medical Experts. They are not out in the hospitals working. They are not experts on what is going on. They are paid to talk, not practice medicine.

Same applies across all disciplines.

Yep. Pareto optimality is basically the argument that because not everybody is going to maximize the well-being of others to minimal harm, we must reallocate discretion to those that will.

But what is abstracted away is the power that comes from being able to define these concepts, which is where the power really lies.

Which is why we currently have a situation where the people who represent the old guarde are consistently trying to silence the other side with "Irrational!" and why the people who find themselves worthy of the mantle so monopolize the title "rational". And then, they define for themselves what is rational.

Which is why as a system fails what is clamed to be "rational" starts not representing what anybody but those insiders would identify as "rational".

This is how definitional systems of power fail.

So, like power has always been. It lies not in the legitimacy of a the claim, but the ability to wield that power so that all around you have to consent to the legitimacy of that claim, legitimate or not.

462 There are no "new rules" and "old rules." There is one consistent point to the "rules."
If a Republican is alleged to have done it, he should be eviscerated and run out of society, if not thrown into prison.
Note that Democrat colateral damage can occur at this point. Remember, the original #MeToo target was Trump, and the Dems were ready for mass suicide to achieve this goal. Weinstein, Cosby, Franken, and others are part of this mess. (Franken was kicked out only because his replacement was even more of a communist.)

But if a Democrat is alleged to have done it, his accuser(s) should be eviscerated and run out of society, if not thrown into prison.

The will normalize excuse anything if it advances their people and their march to power. It is that simple.
